Metric Refresh

I am creating a Sliced Metric based on some dimension define in setup.
While defining dimension in setup i found two things
1)object for dimension name
2)object for dimension code
can anyone please tell me the significance of each with respect to created dimension or metric based on that dimension or on the result set.
one thing more i am not able to refresh the sliced metric as my calendar start from 5 april 2007 and i am refreshing the metric on 6 april 2007 but then also it is not able to refresh it can please anyone tell me what can be the possible reason for that or where i am getting wrong with.

use deski or webi and build a query using the meausre (and if applicable) filter object from the metric universe your using to build your metrics. chances are this will show you why your metric is generating invalid SQL based on your universe design.if this doesnt help you may also want to try turning the trace file on for the metric engine and hitting refresh again - this should also help highlight where the problem is.

    I have a daily calendar setup for the finnacial year 01/04/08 to 31/03/09 set up in Time Config.
    When setting up my metrics i selected the option to stop at current period, which only gives values up to yesterday.
    Taking off the stop at current period creates values up until 31/03/2009, most of which are blank. When these are displayed in IMT's etc you get all the blanks on the report and a little bit of data for the beginning of the year. A complete purge and refresh needs to be done to get new values each day.
    Does anyone know of a way of getting it to run up to and including today?

    The idea is that until the period actually ends why would you want to refresh the metric - and thats why it defaults to stop at the last completed period rather than "current".To get around this you need to play about with the "stop metric calculation" part and use the rules engine to mess with the CI_PROBE table.You create your daily metric with Stop at Current Period turned off and set a fixed end date to allow the metric to refresh "today".  when you refresh, it will back fill and obviously refresh until today.  Thats great but of course if you click refresh tomorrow nothing will happen.So what you then do is schedule rule to refresh a metric refresh daily at the desired time, and add an action before the metric refresh action that uses the Execute sql action.  in this you connect up to the EPM repository tables (all the CI_* stuff) and update the CI_PROBE table by adding a day to the stop field... think its called end_date - or possible stop_date...I recall doing something similar for a customer that wanted a metric to be refreshed every hour (hence overwriting the last hours value and only sotring the value of the last hour of the day in the metric history) obviously EPM isnt designed to work houry but using freesql rules did the job. The other option is to mess about with the servers clock of course - but thats a bit hacky for most

  • Problem on scheduling metric refresh

    Good day everyone:
    I have a problem with dashboard builder, the problem is this, I was trying to schedule a metric refresh but when i see the history of the schedule i see that the status is "Failed" and when i review the detail, the message is this:
    "The administrator has disabled the execution of this kind of programs" or something like that in spanish is "El administrador desactivo la ejecucion de los programas de este tipo"
    I looked for a solution and i found this:
    http://www.forumtopics.com/busobj/viewtopic.php?t=90315
    But the solution mentioned there is for  BOBJ R2 and i am using BOXI 3.1 SP3 so i couldnt solve my problem.
    Can anyone help me to solve this problem??? i need to be able to schedule a metric refresh as soon as possible.
    Regards.
    If this is not the proper forum please move it to the right forum

    David Mau you are my savior, i have fixed the problem (almost) but now im getting this message:
    Error to initiate the application because cpi18n.dll file could not be found. (or something like that)
    Do you know something about this???
    The schedule runs successfully but the error appears every time the schedule finishes. this means, if i schedule a metric refresh to run every hour, after 4 hours i will have 4 error message windows on my server so imagine what hapen after a few days U_U
    I hope you can help me with this, but if you don't, anyway i really appreciate your answer.
    My best regards

    Hi All.
    I managed to fix the problem by re-deploying the ASFScheduleProgram. I did this
    by deleting the AFScheduleProgram from Public\Performance Manager directory.
    I then went to Dashboard and Analytics->Dashboard Builder->Schedule and this then
    recreated a new version of the AFScheduleProgram.
    Obviously i had to re-create all the scheduled tasks again but luckily we have this
    documented well in our environment.

  • Refresh All Goals in one Schedule Task

    I would like to know, can I create a schedule task to refresh all the goals at one time in a single Schedule Task.
    I can select a group of metrics in a particular task and all metrics refresh when the task gets executed. I am unable to select a set of goals and refresh them. I have to individually select each goal and refresh it. which takes a long time as I have about 200 Goals.
    Is there Any Programmatical way.
    Where in the PM repository are the scheduled task saved. or is it saved in the file repository.
    Regards
    Ishaq

    I have tested this with Office 2003 SP3 and SmartView 9.3.0.1.
    Refresh All works as expected. One connection allows for multiple refreshed worksheets when Refresh All is selected.
    What versions are you using?

    We are on Business Objects XI R2 SP2 we deployed custom analytics like pies, control, ... templates.zip and data_exploratoin_templates.zip with the utility XCTemplateUploader. All was Ok. Then we install Fix pack 2.3 to solve a problem with metric refresh (ADAPT00758058) After instaling Fix pack 2.3 IMT analytic didn't work so we decided to uninstall Fix pack. we deploy manually war on tomcat because the uninstall wizard don't do it automatically. Now we have the problem when you click to create new analytic you can see Dashboard, Performance and Tool Analytics but is impossible to visualice custom analytics appears this message $MSG_ANANKE_DATA_ANA_CAT_NAME$ We have tried XCTemplateUploader with -overwrite  -fmkdir but nothing!!!! Any ideas please!  It would be possible to uninstall DashBoard and Performance without affect to Business Objects Enterprise, this is our last chance! Regards! Thanks!

    Hi,
    When I refresh the metric using schedular, the metric is not refreshed , nor schedular return any error. But when checked in metrics proparties, the last refresh date is not changed, niether the values are updated.
    Whe I try to refresh the metric manual, the values are refresh.
    Please help me to troubleshoot the problem of refreshing metric through schedular.

    Scheduler is pretty horrid for refreshing metrics.Better of to use the Rules engine and create a rule thats based on a schedule that based on condition (1=1 works well ) then refreshes metircs.troubleshooting is best done with the trace options in setup/parameters.there are a few other ways or seeing what the schedulers up to - but id stick to rules if i were you.

  • NPD - "Refresh Values" button in Metrics section

    Hello,
    We use metric functionality for some activities.
    Now we would like to create custom reports that show metrics data too.
    However reports can not be reliable if team leaders do not manually click on "refresh values" button within activities right before reports are triggered.
    If team leaders forget, reports are not correct.
    We wish we could build up a small program that automatically refresh all data in all metrics across all activities in the system.
    Would it be possible?
    Would you please give us a piece of advice?
    Thanks and regards
    Daniele

    As my opinion, if you attached spreed sheet after adding metrics, it will be automatically refreshed.
    But if metrics changed and spreed sheet as normal, you have to update it manually by pressing Refresh Values button.
    Unfortunately, you do not support yet. But you can raise a SR for this requirement, we may add this feature in the future version.

  • Which BO-account is used when refreshing a metric?

    Hello,
    I have made a metric with BO-application dashboard manager. The metric is stored in table ci_probe and when I execute the stored excutable sql I get data back.
    Now I want to load the data in the performance management database when refreshing a metric.
    I don't get any data in the tabel ci_probe_value.
    I made a trace with SQL-profiler to see if my account reaches the database. It doesn't.
    I have changed the DBUSER field for my account and the Administrator and the PMUser account. They all have the same value and this account has sysadm rights on the database.
    It didn't help.
    When I refresh a metric which account is used the read the data from the database.
    Please advise,
    Thanks
    Joek Poort

    Hi Joek,
    PMUser is used mainly for the DM & PM system to access resources.
    When it comes to data, the connection used in the universe is used to access the database. If you can create a webi report using your universe in question you should be able to see if you get back data or not.
    I think your problem could also maybe be with the definition of the metric in the universe. Test it by simply just droping the metric into webi and check the SQL that is generated.
    Check the BEGIN_DATE and END_DATE of the @prompt (or sometimes BEGIN_DT and END_DT) syntax.

  • Problem in refreshing Performance Manager Metric

    Hi,
    We are Using SAP BusinessObjects XI 3.1 SP3.
    On this environment, we have configured SAO BO Performance manager / Dashboard manager Application (not EPM).
    While refreshing the metric following error occurs;
    Error:The probe engine cannot query the repository.(EPM 03008)<Metric Name> : ORA-00936:missing expression
    Any clue on this?
    BTW, I have tried to debug the problem and verified that, the query generated for metric is syntactically correct and runs without any problem (when @prompt replaced by actual date).
    Some more details are as below;
    Created a Calendar (Monthly) and also Created a Dimension.
    The Connection is created which has privileges to access both PM Repository Schema and the Report Data Schema.
    Thanks,
    With Regards,

    the very simple strategy to do is to call removeAllItems() method for the 2nd combox box and then insert the contents. this is because the validate() method is not repeatedly called and so the contents are not updated immediately.

    Hi, sorry, I haven't played with MPCUI yet but it we're excited about the capabilities it appears to provide. We'd like to "combine" a lot of our reports and one-offs into OEM so things are better-organized.
    That said... I dug around a bit and thought this might help. Could you add timePeriod & interval to your own c:Table id element (is that the correct term)?
    In the case of the table component, you can specify the metric directly also:
    <c:Table id="processesTable" width="100%" height="100%"
    metricName="CPUProcessesPerf"
    metricColumns="['ProcUser', 'ProcCPU', 'ProcCmd']"
    timePeriod="REALTIME"
    interval="30"

    <c:columns>
    <mx:AdvancedDataGridColumn width="50" dataField="key" />
    <mx:AdvancedDataGridColumn width="100" dataField="ProcUser" />
    <mx:AdvancedDataGridColumn width="80" dataField="ProcCPU" />
    <mx:AdvancedDataGridColumn width="400" dataField="ProcCmd" />
    </c:columns>
    </c:Table>

    A MV refresh does that and also writes database data.
    These are not the same thing and cannot be directly compared.
    So instead of pointing at the SELECT execution time and asking why the MV refresh is not as fast, look instead WHAT the refresh is doing and HOW it is doing that.
    Is the execution plan sane? What events are the top ones for the MV refresh? What are the wait states that contributes most to the processing time of the refresh?
    You cannot use the SELECT statement's execution time as a direct comparison metric. The work done by the refresh is more than the work done by the SELECT. You need to determine exactly what work is done by the refresh and whether that work is done in a reasonable time, and how other sessions are impacting the refresh (it could very well be blocked by another session).

  • Materialized views with Complete refresh taking infinite time while refresh

    Hi,
    We have some materialized view which are configured for Complete refresh and are being refreshed manually everyday in the morning. Some times we face this issue of the MV taking longer time than usual for refresh. We tried running the below query to see if any object/MVs are locked and did not obtain any entries using the query:
    SELECT username U_NAME, owner OBJ_OWNER,
    object_name, object_type, s.osuser,
    DECODE(l.block,
    0, 'Not Blocking',
    1, 'Blocking',
    2, 'Global') STATUS,
    DECODE(v.locked_mode,
    0, 'None',
    1, 'Null',
    2, 'Row-S (SS)',
    3, 'Row-X (SX)',
    4, 'Share',
    5, 'S/Row-X (SSX)',
    6, 'Exclusive', TO_CHAR(lmode)
    ) MODE_HELD
    FROM gv$locked_object v, dba_objects d,
    gv$lock l, gv$session s
    WHERE v.object_id = d.object_id
    AND (v.object_id = l.id1)
    AND v.session_id = s.sid
    ORDER BY username, session_id;
    Hence please help us in troubleshooting this issue in Refreshing. and also let us know of any possible cause of Refresh taking longer time than usual.
    Thanking you in advance.

    Which is it? 'some' MVs or 'the' MV that is taking longer than usual.
    1. How many MVs are being refreshed?
    2. What process are you using to refresh them
    3. Are you refreshing them one at a time serially or just starting the refresh of all of them at the same time?
    4. Do any of these MVs use the same base tables as the other MVs
    5. Are any of the MVs based on remote tables?
    6. Are any of the MVs based on other MVs?
    7. What does an AWR report show for the time period when things are taking longer than usual?
    All of the same issues that can cause a query to run slow can cause an MV refresh to go slow because an MV refresh is a query.
    But you need to provide a lot more information and metrics about your system if you want to get any advice that might be specific to your particular case.

    Hello ,

    Is it possible to run an Metric check or all Metrics manuall over the Agent (Like ./emctl check agent ???)
    Or to start an Procedure in the Repository to start the check from the agent ?

    Example: You installed an new Application and want to check 4 Metrics (Like >>is SYS loggon or invalid objects , Tablespaces full > 95 % ) and so on..sql statement is there You can check this logon by on database
    So i have to edit all Metrics checked them and edit them back ???
    I think the Enterprise Manager need an Full Refresh like this one...
    Or an Button to select metrics you want to check and execute them (One >>Database or select multiple)Can you explore this in detail

  • Performance Manager - How to purge ALL metrics?

    Is there a way that I can purge all the metrics within Performance Manager without having to go and select one metric item at a time and purging it?

    Hi Gavin,
    Via DM, selecting individual metrics and purging them is the only way, and as per desribed in the post above.
    However, though not recommended at all, and should be done with extreme caution... You can truncate the CI_PROBE_VALUES table in the repository, but you will also need to update the CI_PROBE table by setting the refresh dates again. This process also entails stoping the AAxxx servers and restarting them after you truncated and updated the tables. Again CAUTION, but it can be done.
    Then, there is the other way using the PMDT tool. Again you need to understand how and what it is capable of. You will export all the assets to the XML files. Remove the universe(s) in the setup tab and add it again. Then import the XML files with the assets again into the repository. Remember, removing the universe(s) is as good as reseting the repository...
    Also, depending to what extent you are using EPM, choose these methods carefully. Else start clicking away and purging them individually...
    Regards
    Jacques
