MFP Experiences?

I'm wondering how people's experiences have been with MFP, after enabling it on the wireless controllers. How well does/did it work, has it caused any problems? (And what controller version were you running at the time?) I have Intel 2200BG and 3945ABG clients (running WPA + TKIP), and I'm wondering if MFP could cause more problems than it's worth.

We had some significant issues with MFP with Intel clients. We did not track down the root cause, but disabling it seemed to remove many issues. I decided I would hold off re-enabling it for the time being.
If I remember correctly, the Intel was receiving a de-auth frame that it considered invalid because of MFP. This frame caused some versions of the Intel driver to wedge, and we had to disable/enable the nic to re-gain wireless access.
There is also limited benefits to MFP until more clients actually support it fully, so I think it will be more practical in a year or two. However, I would be curious as well to hear other feedback.

  • HP LaserJet Enterprise 500 Color MFP M575 - Can't scan from Windows

We recently purchased and installed an HP LaserJet Enterprise 500 Color MFP M575 to be used as a networked all-in-one solution for a number of offices. I have been able to get it set up on our network and have installed the appropriate drivers on the requested Windows 7 x64 machines, and network printing works perfectly. However, it seems that despite the fancy scanning features available from the all-in-one itself (scan to email, scan to a network folder, etc.), I can't find any way to do an old-fashioned scan from Windows.
I have installed the full software solution available on the driver download page for the device, and while Windows lists the device as a "Multi Function Printer; Scanner" it does not recognize it as an actual scanner. The built-in Windows Fax and Scan simply reports that no scanners are installed. The software installation did not include the HP Solution Center (which I am used to seeing from my experience with various other HP all-in-one devices) or any equivalent for direct scanning. The driver download page for the device does not include any separate scanning drivers, so I can't be certain if they were included with the full installation or exist at all. Some of our staff also use Adobe Acrobat to scan, and even that fails to recognize the MFP as a scanner.
We'll eventually be setting up the device to scan directly to a network folder, but we need a fallback while IT takes their time getting it set up; I can't imagine that the simplest option is not available at all. I must be missing something here, any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Edit: To add, I also ran the HP Print and Scan Doctor. Interestingly, it reports the device as a printer and only offers to "Fix Printing" without any sort of resolution for my scanning problem.

There is no change to this problem after 6 months since the last post. Put simply, and as stated in the previous posts, there is no way to scan a document and receive the image on your PC. If you are working with graphics for any length of time or want to create an image for inclusion as an image in a document or web page using this piece of equipment will not allow you to do so.
Great shame as every other function works well - it cannot be beyond the wit of HP to include a Windows application that enables you to scan an image, receive it in the software you are using at the time (e.g. Outlook, Word, Photoshop...) and use it in your work.
HP Printers several years older than this £1000+ Enterprise printer were able to do this simple job and have done so for a great many years. Just being able to use Microsoft's Fax and Scan would be start.

  • HP 3330 MFP scanning function doesn't work

I have a HP 3330 MFP wirelessly networked to (2) computers via a WPSM54G.  I am able to wirelessly print from both computers, but I am unable to scan from either.  When I open the HP LaserJet Document Manager, and initiate a scan, I receive a message "hp LaserJet Scan Control Viewer...Unable to communicate with the device.  The device is disconnected or powered off."  (The MFP is "on", and if I power the HP 3330 MFP "off" and "on", the result is the same.)
If I connect the printer directly to the computer(s) via a USB 2 cable, the scanning function does not work - since the Linksys printer drivers were installed.  (I also noticed in Control Panel -> Printers and Faxes, there are some printer functions (ie., Scanning, Fax) have been removed - since the Linksys printer drivers were installed on the computer(s); and Network HP LaserJet 3330 (shared) was added as the default printer.
Since the printing function works fine, I'm wondering if 1.) the installation of Linksys printer drivers on the computer(s), removed or altered the HP drivers/scanning function, 2.) if there is a printer driver that will allow the computer/printserver to recognize a scan command and/ or the printer, or finally, 3.) if the HP 3330 is simply not capable of perfoming all of the functions (scanning, faxing) that the WPSSM54G claims it is capable of perfoming...
    Any ideas?
    Thank you for your thoughts.
    saj

Got it working.  The problem was with the firewall (Bit Defender).  Once I turned it off, and connected the print server (wirelessly), the scan function worked like a charm.  (It would be nice - in a perfect world - if when the print server experiences a problem, the Linksys software/ drivers would identify the cause, and at least point you in the right direction....you know, something like "...can't communicate with device, try turning off your firewall")
    Hope this helps someone.

  • HP Laserjet PRO 200 - Colour MFP M276n | Forward Fax to Email

    Hi!
I can't understand why it isn't possibile to forward a fax to a list of email address instead of print them (or forward the fax to another number), it could really save a lot of paper, also because the printer can already send a scan to an email address.
Am I missing some some option in the control panel or am I really supposed to
print a fax and then scan it?
If this function is not available are you going to implement it in the next firmware update? I think it would be really appreciated!
    Thanks!

    Hi FrancescoPromo,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hopeyou enjoy your experience!
I see from your post that you would like to know if you can forward a fax to email, if there are any updates for this available.
I will be happy to help you.
You can send and receive faxes from the computer software. You can fax single or multiple faxes at a time.
There is no option available for sending faxes through emails.
I have provided the manual with information for faxing. Pages 97 and 103 provide this process.
    LASERJET PRO 200 COLOR MFP.
These are the available features for this model through the control panel.
    Scan to USB Drive.
    Scan to Network Folder.
    Scan to E-mail.

  • Printer hp laserjet m1212nf mfp is not shared with the homegroup

    Dear friends of HP
I'm using the excellent HP Printer, but everytime Iturn it on, it asks me to make a "SMART INSTALLATION" if not my PC doesn't beguin to print and the default printer stays in grey color in the Control Panel.
    I'm using windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits.
I've contact a lot of times to the israeli HP support and they kindly "fix it" by uninstalling and re-installing my printer.
The next time I want to use the printer the same thing happends and asks me to make the Smart Installation.
Today I've got from Windows Troubleshot this error:  "Printer HP Laser Jet Professional M1212nf MFP is not shared with the homegroup."
The printer driver installed is:  "LJM 1130_M1210_MFP_Full_Solution"
Please help me to fix this troubleshot that is bothering me for more than half an year.
    Yours sincerelly: uzi2003

    Hi Uzi,
It seems as the HP Smart Install feature is trying to reinstall the printer upon each restart.
Try following this tool by selecting Disable to turn off Smart Install for the printer:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=Im-129228-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en...
Next reboot the PC and try printing again, as well check if any prompt appears or not.
If you still experience any printing issues, try following the HP Print and Scan Doctor below and check again:

  • Help with hp LaserJet 100 color MFP M175nw

Hi all, have run the suggested HP troubleshooting solutions for the below problem but still persists.
When I print from any programme I get yellow smudges along the edge of the print outs at regular intervals. Initially I thought it was yellow toner smudging at the edges somehow and cleaned all the rollers etc. No joy so now think it may be light burn marks on the paper? Out of ideas to resolve the issue. Any suggestions gratefully received. Thanks

    Hello,
I'm going to keep this short and simple.
We are/were hp partners once, I bought myself a HP Laserjet 100 color MFP M175nw at Staples in Belgium (Staples is bankrupt meanwhile - a pity for their employees)
I ordered toners on tonershop.be, these toners are approved, HP was fined for this sort of behaviour as 100% valid replacement.   HP forces me to do a software update, next thing I'm seeing is a big warning that I'm using counterfeit products and that I need to contact HP.   This is the world upside down, HP is violating the European free market.   Not the poor guy that wants to make an extra buck, for an underpaid salary in a sweatshop somewhere.
My printer is ruined (I have +25 years profound technical knowledge, experience, whatever)
But my printer is still under warranty no?   No HP (online tells me it isn't) so back to Staples, fortunately they had a copy of my invoice, so that I can be repaired in warranty but no, I the evil HP partner that sold for multiple hundreds of thousands of euros worth of HP products, I used LEGAL replacement toners.  Sorry Mr you have to buy a new printer.
Well I don't.    I'm going to take this whole sage (with the microchips with false information, on the toner cartridges full off very expensive toner powder.   And I'm going to mail it to Neelie Kroes and I really hope that HP get's convicted for market manipulation, price agreements, putting themselves above national legislation and lot's of other misconducts.
And because of management that is only interested in greed and their 25th Villa, Tesla car, Island, it will be the HP employee that pay the price for this sort of arrogance and plain stupidity.
HP: You have my contact details, send me an email.
And then the 'too big too fall' companies annoy you with useless questionnaires about their customer service, they ask themselves why nobody is buying their products and so on.
Anyway, for this type of printer I know the story from A-Z meanwhile, I have kept all evidence, invoices and whatever and once again I was once somebody that made you company what it is today after the HP/Compaq merger.
You board of directors, top management, yes Mrs. Ex CEO from Ebay), that is why people don't buy HP anymore.   High Prices, no service.
I prefer to keep this reaction anonymous, one could imagine why.
But I have my a digital print of this post, and signed it with a digital signature.
Because everything what I mentioned above is how it is.
Stop ruining our planet and the future of my children for your own greedy behaviour.
    Mr X.

  • Color laserjet pro MFP M177fw loses IP address

New Color Laserjet Pro MFP M177fw keeps losing the IP address so my computer won't print via wireless. What to do?

    Hi markfanderson12,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I understand the printer keeps losing the IP address.
I will be happy to help you.
When the printer is installed on a network, (wired or wireless) the router assigns it an IP address.
However this IP address can change for various reasons. Most of the time the printer software will often adapt to the new IP address and printing functions will carry on as normal but the scanner software will not.
I would setup a static IP address for the printer once it is back on the network again to resolve this issue.
Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection. Go to Solution three: Assign the printer a static IP address.
At the bottom, select Additional information for Tips for troubleshooting  a wireless connection.
    Hope this helps.

Scanning in Mavericks? I can no longer use the scanning function in my HP Officejet 4500.
HP says to go through Preview, Image Capture, or Print/Scan in System Prefs.
Still doesn't work. Any ideas/similar experiences?

Sure it is, yet it's called HP LaserJet Professional M1210nf MFP Series *
Today, I followed your other advice, and deleted the printer, deleted the /Library/Printer/hp folder, downloaded the entire set of driver, re-installed the printer twice, once with the driver, once with Bonjour.
The Bonjour Printer has the scan option active, but it is doesn't work (refer to above.), it is called M1217nfw
The Apple Driver Printer doesn't show the scan option at all, it is called M1217nf (as on the http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669#HP list.) This model number doesn't exist, as far as I can tell.
Still, everything works perfectly in Snow Leopard, for a MF printer that has been manufactured years after Snow Leopard was released.
Why going up in software version means going backwards in compatiblity for brand new product is really the question that puzzles me here.

  • HP laserjet m1536dnf mfp print and scan is very slow

    Hi Sir/Madam,
HP laserjet m1536dnf mfp print and scan is printing and scanning slow on network. Sometimes scan is not work. That's why I have to reinstall the printer driver. So how to increase print speed?
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi riz1_4444,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I understand the printer is printing and scanning slow on the network.
I will be happy to help you.
Make sure printer is connected directly to a wall outlet.
Try printing a hardware test on the printer to see if it prints slow or not.
Printing a Configuration Report. Select Method one: Print a Configuration Report from the printer control panel.
I would restart the router to see if this will resolve the issue.
    Try another Ethernet cable.
If you are still having issue then test the printer by connecting the printer to the computer by a USB cable to see if it is something on the network that is causing it to slow down.
Hope this resolves your issue for printing slow over the network.

  • HP Laser Jet 1536dnf MFP

Why does my computer recognize my HP Laser Jet 1536dnf MFP as Universal Printing PLC6?  And how can I install the HP Laser Jet 1536dnf MFP if it s not on any list, I don't have disc and is recognized as the wrong MF printer?

    Hi ballard,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I understand the printer name is showing the Universal Printing PLC6 driver and not the Laserjet M1536.
I will be happy to help you.
During the install it pulled the Universal driver instead of the Laserjet driver.
Did you download and install the drivers?
Here is the URL for the drivers if you haven't already installed them.
HP LaserJet Pro M1536dnf Multifunction Printer Drivers. Select the operating system and click next.
Click on Driver - Product Installation Software and download the drivers.
Delete the PCL driver and install the download.
We can see if we can update the driver through the device manager if the full software was already installed from the download to get the right driver installed.
How do I get into Windows Device Manager?
Click on View and select show hidden devices.
Look for the printer entry and right click and select update the driver.

  • Can't install HP M1132 MFP on win. 7 64-bit

    Hi,
I can't manage to install an M1132 MFP on Windows 7 64-bit. I've tried in on three different computers and laptops and after the installation process is completed it says it has failed.
I've also tried installing it on a 32-bit win 7 and it works without any problems. I've tried changing the USB cable, they are 1.8m long, so the cable length shouldn't be a problem.
I'm clueless, I just bought the printer and i'm thinking about sending it for the warranty.
If anyone faced this problem before, please reply.
    Thanks a billion.
    Cheers!

    Hi CatalinMCL,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I understand you are getting a error when installing the printer on the Win 7 64 bit computers.
I will be happy to help you.
Are you signed in as Administrator of the computer?
You want to use the normal USB slot 2.0 not the latest USB 3.0.
USB 3.0 are supposed to be backwards compatible.
Do a msconfig to turn off any startup programs that might be interfering with the installation.
Click on start, in the search box type in run, enter, then type in msconfig, click OK.
    Click the Services tab.
Click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box.
Click Disable All, and then click OK.
Then click on the start up tab at the top.
    Click on disable all.
    Reboot the computer.
Temporarily turn off any Antivirus software.
    Then run the installation again.
Don't connect the USB cable until prompted.
    Test the printer again.
Then go back into msconfig and enable the All Microsoft Services and enable all on the start up tab.
Turn the Antivirus software back on again.

  • When converting a PDF from a scanned image on a Canon MFP, some of the text is jumbled

I am trying to use the Exportpdf.acrobat.com service and when I convert an image that was made into a pdf from Word, it is fine.  If I exposrt a pdf that was scanned in from a Canon IR 2030i MFP, some of the text comes out jumbled and un-readable.  Is there a certain setting to fix this?

Doc: I've had a similar experience, and here are the details, investigation, and a workaround. My printer is a Brother MFC-645CN, and I'm using Snow Leopard (10.6.8) on a 2010 iMac quad i5 connected to the printer over my ethernet LAN. Are you using a Brother printer?
Firefox has shown this kind of nasty issue for the past six months or so. It seems to be related to the imaging algorithms in Preview when dealing with Firefox (now at v.12) and the Brother printer -- the screwy second page (and beyond) show up skewed and up-sized when doing a print preview also. No such problem seen in Safari or anything else. I am not currently using any other Mozilla apps on this Mac besides Firefox.
A few months ago I tested printing from my administrator account and  a different user account. Firefox printing was completely normal and as expected. When I went back to my main user account, back came the funky second page.I went through extensive troubleshooting to try to chase it down, systematically removing and replacing apps and preferences and many other Library files related to printing, Brother drivers, Firefox, and Preview. Nothing helped. Solution was to migrate my user files to an account where the printing problem wasn't happening. I deleted the problem user account.
Everything was fine for about three weeks, and then with no warning, printing was back to the bad second page, just as before. I am stumped, and I'll let smarter people try to figure it out. I use Firefox a lot, and it's possible that some add-on setting is interfering, or a web page I visited turned the printing funky again. I just don't know.
Also checked on a Mac G4 running Leopard (10.5.8) and Firefox 3.6.28. No printing/preview problems there.
Now, for the work-around I am currently using -- print each page separately, one at a time. Page 1, then page 2, etc. Preview and printing looks completely normal. Hope this works for you until the bug is located and squashed for good.

  • Laser Jet 1536dnf MFP says memory low and will not print

Laser Jet 1536dnf MFP says memory low and will not print. Have tried hard disconnect and restart. Error persists.

Hey ,  Welcome to the HP Support Forum.  I hope you enjoy your experience here. I see that you're encountering the memory is low error status on your LaserJet Pro 1536dnf MFP. I would like to help.  For this particular error, I have found the NVRAM Initialization type of reset to be beneficial in restoring functionality.  Note that completing this step will reset your printer's wireless configuration, ePrint address, and other customized printer settings. If you have created a custom @hpeprint.com address it will be permanently erased. For more information on custom ePrint addresses, click here.   As HP does not typically make the steps for this type of reset available publicly, I will private message you the instructions you need.  Please let me know the result of your troubleshooting by responding to this post.  If I have helped you resolve the issue, feel free to give me a virtual high-five by clicking the 'Thumbs Up' icon below and clicking to accept this solution. Thank you for posting in the HP Support Forum.  Have a great day!

  • HP Laserjet pro mfp M476nw

Memory low message when I print and then it doesn't print. The only time it prints is when I type one one and print that, otherwise nothing happens. Please advise a solution. Thank you. Is the memory chip defective? It was working fine yesterday.

I, too, have an MFP M476nw with the SAME PROBLEM. Telling a customer to do a cold reboot for a $350 printer is NOT a solution. Six months ago I was on the phone to HP Support (excellent experience). Upgraded the printer driver (not firmware). Problem appeared to go away for a time, but maybe I just got timid with my printer. Humoring the thread solution, I just did the cold restart. Unplug. Wait a few minutes. Plug back in. Attempt to print 6 page PDF. Got the memory error again. I just used the HP UPDate utility. There are no updates available (I have the latest). So, to the product team, the reason I purchased an HP laser printer--and this one was my first foray away from ink cartridges--was to have bulletproof, always-on, .9999999 printing. This is not the case. I'm pretty unhappy about it.
