MG5350 and Greyscale printing with black.

Hello, I have a Pixma MG5350 and am wondering if there is a way I can print in greyscale using only the black ink?
Like alot of pritners I have had before when I select the "greyscale" option and print it converys all the colors on the page into shades of gret but it still uses all the color cartridges to print those shades.
I know printing with only black will be of a lower quality but i'm not converned with that, and in alot of the pages I actually find using the colors to print the greys annoying as i'm reading this B&W document but i'm seeing these cyan and magent specs all over the place where it's trying to print a light color instead of just black specs.
This is quite annoying as I only print B&W text documents with the occassional B&W graphic in them yet i'm having to constanlty waste money replacing the color cartirdges.
I know it will use some of the ink when the printer comes on and cleans the heads etc but i'm almost replacing the color cartirdges as often as the black one which is just rediculous.
Some printers I have used have a "black only" option you can check that will not use the color however I see no option for that in the settings. Is there some way that I can print in greyscale without having to waste color ink?

  • PDFs printing with black background and white text.

For some reason some of our PDF's have been printing with black backgrounds and white text, even though they appear to be normal on the screen before they are printed. I haven't been able to confirm 100% yet but it appears to only be happening with pdfs that were created from scanned documents.
Can somebody please offer me some suggestions.

Absolutely agree with the original poster.  I find white text on black background so very very difficult (I changed from using Tweetbot on iOS to Tweetlogix for this very reason) and it physically hurts my eyes to try to read it.  I can just about manage with Spotify using white text on a black background on the large screen of my MacBook Pro - and I do mean "just" - but for the smaller screen of my iPhone 5 it is just impossible.  Even with a retina screen such as that on the iPhone 5S there is a strange ghosting effect and it gives me a headache to look at it for too long.
This may be something to do with age!  I suspect most app developers are youngsters with almost perfect eyesight, but for those of us whose eyesight is less than perfect, this white text on black background really is so very difficult.
I know there is a workaround in setting the iPhone to invert ALL colours (under Accessibility in Settings) but it's a real pain to have to keep altering this setting every time I want to open or close Spotify, and it doesn't look right anyway.  iOS7 is supposed to be a light, bright, easy to read OS - sadly this new Spotify app is the opposite of that.
Please would Spotify consider adding a simple light or dark theme option, so that those of us who want it can have our much easier to read light background back again, with grey or black text?  It would be a great help to those of us who have eyesight problems.
If not, I may have to cancel my Spotify Premium account and move to Deezer instead, as I mainly use Spotify when out and about in the car, so am using the iOS app a lot.
Thank you for considering this plea!

  • How do i Drag and Drop print in black and white?

I really like the drag and drop printing feature where i just drag several files to the printer icon in the doc and they print with out opening the file. My only problem is that i can't get them to print in black and white, or choose any other features for that matter. it is printing in color, which is the printer's default. Does any one know how to print in black and white with the drag and drop feature. i have set the printer to black and white for a single document, then tried to drag and drop, but it still does it in color only. i am using pdf's by the way, but it happens with jpegs as well.

You should create another printer queue for the printer and choose an appropriate name for the queue. You can then put the printer in the Dock. Now use the web interface to the printing system <http://127.0.0.1:631/printers>. Locate your new printer and click on the "Configure" button. You will need to authenticate yourself using the short user name and password of an administrator's account. You will then be able to set the defaults for that printer. Click "Continue" when you are done.
You can now drag and drop those files you want printed to the appropriate printer icon in the Dock.
Note: This does not work for every printer. There are some manufacturer's drivers that do not put these options in the printer's PPD. They generate them on the fly when you call the print window.

    Please identify your notebook/pc /printer.
Look at the base/rear/side of the notebook/pc/printer at the barcoded sticker.
Post item number 2 as seen on the following example of an HP notebook's barcoded sticker. The barcode on your HP product may be slightly different in appearance, but will still have the important information needed for us to help you.
###Do not post the serial number of your product as it is personal information.###
If your printer is a laser printer then simply go to print preferences and select grayscale printing

  • Black and white printing with a mac

I recently switched from a Dell Windows PC to an iMac with OS 10.9. I am using my old HP 6500e 710a Officejet All in One.
I typically print most of my documents in black and white which was available on the Windows 7 driver version.
On the iMac OS 10.9 driver version, I can only print in black and white in "draft" mode.
Based on another posting I saw on this forum, the drop down menu for another HP printer (I think 8300) had the feature to select B&W printing in any quality. Also, it had "grayscale" selectable.
I appears that my driver version V2.4.0-2 does not have the full compliment of options. HP needs to update this OS 10.9 driver.
    Can anyone HELP!
    This question was solved.

    happytohelp01,
I received a response from HP Support pointing me to the following Apple software driver on the Apple support website; HP Printer Drivers v.2.16.1 for OS X.
It was at "http://support.apple.com/kb/dl907".   Once I loaded it, I was given the following instructions:
    Step 3: Change print settings
    1. Open the document that you want to print
    2. Click on File  and then Print
    3. Make sure the correct printer name is selected.
    4. Below the Orientation option, there is drop-down menu. Select Paper type/Quality (Refer to the attached screenshot)
    5. Click on Color Options.
    6. Select Greyscale under Color
    7. Click on Print.
You can create a Preset using the below steps so that you do not have to change the settings every time you print.
    1. Click on Presets menu
    2. Click on Create new Preset
    3. Assign a preset name
    4. Confirm to create the preset.
Next time, you can select this preset name to get the settings that you have made.
This allowed me to print in B&W at Normal quality.

  • Pin names and numbers do not print with black and white printer setup option

    Multisim V12
    Printer HP LaserJet 1320
File -> Print Options -> Print Sheet Setup, check In black/white, OK
    Then
File ->  Print Preview, shows all elements of the drawing in black white
Then  select Print and the drawing prints without pin names and pin numbers.
The same procedure with the black/white unchecked previews in color and then prints all circuit elements

    Hi HiZTrace,
I used Multisim 12 with the same configuration and printed with a HP LaserJet 4250, but it seemed to be working well for me. There could be some incompatibility issue with your printer driver. A workaround you can try is to install a PDF Converter and print the file in color, then print the generated PDF file in black and white. There are many PDF Converters available, for example, CutePDF Writer (free)
    Sorry for the inconvenience.

  • Printing with black cartridge only

I'm going to buy HP ENVY 120 all-in-one printer. I will not need the color printing much. Can I use black and white cartridge only without installing color cartriges at all or with empty one or more color cartridges? I just want to save some money on color cartridges. Thanks. Victor.

    Hey @VIC-GEISH ,
Thank you for taking the time to post on the HP Forums today! Hope you enjoy the experience.
So there are a few things that I have to let you know. No printer, HP or not can print only black that is an InkJet. The reason for this is because many people would print only black with their multi-colour printers and the ink wells for the coloured cartridges would dry out and never be usable. So whether you select black only or greyscale you are still going to be printing some colour in those printouts so that the printer will be able to print colour when you need it to.
If using ONLY black was what you were trying to get the instructions for, unfortunately that is not possible. If you want to print ONLY black i recommend looking into laser black only printers that are multi-function, black only printers. They don't use ink they using toner power cartridges that last a very long time but are more expensive. We have those options in our HP LaserJet line.
Hope this helps! Have a great day!
    I worked for HP.

  • Can I print with black cartridge only if colour cartidges are empty on HP C1600 seeries printer?

Can I print using the black cartridge only whilst the colour cartridges are empty? I have a HP Photosmart C1600 series printer and Vista installed on my PC. I have set the Printer preferences to  "Grayscale and use Black Cartridge only" but the printer itself is telling me it wont print unless i replace my empty yellow cartridge. I bought a brand new Black cartridge so i could print using black ink only as i dont need to use colour.

    Hi,
Many printers from all vendors will not print with just one empty ink cartidge, it doesn't matter which one. Some printers allow users to print but at slower than snail speed. Whichever way, we have to have ink carridges to be able to print (even scan).
    Regards.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 Plus copy prints with black streaks

I just bought an HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus and it seems to work great at printing; however, when I tried to copy something, the copy came out with black streaks that nearly render the print illegible and are the most dark/condensed towards the left hand side of page.
How do I fix this problem?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi,
It could be due to the scan calibration issue during power on.
Power off the Printer, make sure scan lid closed properly. Now power it on, it will do scan calibration.
Now try to do the copy and see the results.
    Hope it will help you.

  • Printing with Black Cartridge Only option grayed out: Officejet 6000

Trying to print a black and white photo in gray scale using only the black ink cartridge, unfortunately that option is grayed out. Is there some setting that has to be chosen first before black cartridge only option becomes available?
I feel like I've tried just about every combination, but maybe I'm missing some minuscule, unintuitive step.
    Thanks

Nope, its not a bug.  When you choose borderless the print region actually becomes bigger than the page to make sure there are no white gaps.  The ink that does not make it to the page is caught in a trough filled with foam just below the print zone.
The color ink is a dye ink (like food coloring).  The black ink is a pigment ink - like carbon dust suspended in water.  When it is over-sprayed in the trough it piles up until the pile of pigment starts dragging and smearing on the back of every subsequent page!  Not good, so we do not allow the black cartridge to print when set to borderless.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • Printing with black ink only

I have a HP photosmart c6280.  I only want to print in black only but my colored ink keeps expiring and needs to be replace too frequently.  I have tried grayscale but it still drains my color ink.  what can be done about this?????

    Greetings!
Go to your 'Control Panel' and look up your specific printer under your Hardware and Sound. Under your printer 'preferences' choose black ink only. No guarantee, but that'll usually do it. Just ensure you 'mutually' verify under advanced options just prior to actually printing anything that you are choosing the 'black ink only' method. Some printers inevitably still print with color because the print head can overheat with friction as the head module is still commanded to assist the black ink cartridge to spit out a small amount of ink no matter what. It's a software and hardware paradox but some inkjets work off this principle that you still need to have the ink -ever so slightly- but still coming out of the print head head to complete the dark black. (I know, it sounds weird, but that's out of my realm for being able to explain the manufacturers...) Hope that helps... Cheers!

  • HPO D5560 Not printing with black cartridge

Have a D5560 printer which suddenly stopped printing with the black cartridge.
Thought it was the cartridge so installed new one (Only use HP cartridges) No difference
On reflection the black just stopped - no gradual fading of quality etc.
Ran cartridge cleaner (all levels of cleaning) No difference
Prints fine if I remove black cartridge so that the tricolour prints the black but thats only good to circumvent the problem
I am running this on Windows 8.1. It has been running fine for months
Cant think that I have had any driver updates installed recently from HP
Have I got a hardware problem?
    Thanks for any input
    Cheers

    OK so this is weird.
Just thought to plug in my windows 7 netbook onto the printer.
It printed fine with black cartridge!
Sent a job from the Windows 8.1 computer and that now prints fine in black from the black cartridge.
Problem solved, but am I losing the plot!!!

  • Text not printing with Black Ink on Canon i560

I've been having a pretty annoying problem with my Canon i560: When printing black text, instead of using the black ink, the printer mixes black from the color inks. This has been a problem for a little while but recently, the colors got a little offset so it became really obvious.
Also, I just received an update for the Canon printer drivers and according to the Apple page, the Canon i560 is supported and the drivers are actually updated.
I'm pretty sure that it's a driver problem because I can print from a Windows virtual machine to the exactly same printer all other variables remaining the same - and guess what: When printing from Windows, black is black, colors are colors, as one would expect with this kind of printer.
So, does anyone have an idea how I can make my make send the right signals to my Canon i560?

Ah, sorry, I missed that when reading your reply. Probably should have re-read it. However, I have just made a test-print from TextEdit with the "Grayscale Printing" checkbox enabled - and I'm still getting precisely the same ugly, greenish result.
Then it is not working as it should be and it is either the driver or the core printing system. To check both there is alternate driver available called Gutenprint. With this driver suite installed you can create another printer queue on the Mac, this time selecting the Gutenprint i560 driver. When you then print and have the i560 Gutenprint driver selected, change to the Printer Features menu and then select the General tab in Feature Sets submenu and then set the Color Model to Grayscale. Does this work correctly?
And with the Canon driver, if you want to repair the colour offset, you can go to Print & Scan, select the i560 using the Canon driver and then open Options & Supplies. Then select the Utilities tab and click on Open Printer Utility. This will open the Canon IJ Printer Utility. From here you can select the Test Print menu and then Print Head alignment.

  • Blank page when printing with black cartridge

After trying  the suggested solutions to this problem on the last 20 forum pages with no luck,  I took the  new black cartridge out of the printer.  Later, forgetting there was no black cartridge in it, I proceeded to print a page and finally got a full page printed in black. What does that mean? other than it's  a messed up printer.  No more HP for me. My old Epson worked for 8 years with no problems. Someone hit the nail on the head when he called the software " invasive". Does HP ever read this board? If they did, one would think they would be concerned about some very angry customers.

It is a bit difficult to diagnose your issue with absolutely no details of printer model or any other relavant data.  It appears you have a recent printer with a black and a tri-color cartridge.  Your black cartridge is clogged or out of ink or otherwise non-functional.  When you remove the black cartridge your printer automatically switched to "reserve mode", generating black using the color cartridge.  A fresh working black cartrdige should resolve your issue.
