MGBSX1 compatibility with Cisco switches

Specifically, is the MGBSX1 (Gigabit SX Mini-GBIC SFP Transceiver) compatible with WS-C2960G-24TC-L???

I think WS-C2960G-24TC-LMGBSX1 is not compatible with MGBSX1.
See the Gigabit Ethernet compatible card for 2960 model

  • Linksys router with cisco switch

    Hello everyone,
Just wondering if i can connect a cisco switch to my linksys router. Any info will be helpful. Thanks.

Well, you should be more specific what info you need.
Your question is answered with: yes, you connect a cisco switch to a linksys router. You can connect pretty much any ethernet switch or hub to a linksys router.
Beyond that I don't know what you want to know and thus cannot really give you more info.

  • Wireless Cards compatability with Cisco ACU

We have Lucent Orinoco PCMCIA cards in our laptops and have just purchesed some Aironet 350's, they work ok with the Orinoco drivers and client manager software, but i can't get the Cisco client ACU software to recognise the cards as i want to get the Cisco managment software working. Will the Cisco ACU software only work with Cisco cards?

Yes, Cisco ACU is for Cisco cards only.

  • Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Express Compatibility with Cisco Unified Communications Manager Release 8.X

I have a customer that would like to upgrade CUCM to either 7.1 or 8.0 and has Meeting Place Express.
In trying to establish compatability I found this link: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/compat/ccmcompmatr.html#wp56211 which shows compatabilty up to CUCM 7.0.
If CUCM 7.0 is in fact the highest version supported with MPE 2.1(1.2), that would mean that they would loose their conferencing server.
Can anyone confirm if there will be MPE support for CUCM 7.1 or 8?
    Thank you.

7.1 is still supported, however 8.X was never tested with MPE as it was already going to be replaced with MP.
Since the BU never tested it, it falls under not supported, MP8 is supported with CUCM 8.
But, since it uses a standard H323 trunk it should work fine.

  • Power Over ethernet on Cisco switches - why??

I administer 3 servers (two g4 towers and one xserve attached to an XCraid) and 50 Macintosh workstations in an agency/production group within a fairly large company (2000+). Like most major companies the majority of the computer and servers are Windows based (specifically DELL) with CISCO switches.
I ran into a problem today where a switch was updated the "OS of the swithc" without my knowledge by our Infrastructure group. This resulted in a very high latency problem when pulling files from our Apple servers. After some digging we determined that the feature "Power Over Ethernet" had been disabled when they updated the switch's OS. Once we enabled PoE back on those ports, it was back to business.
My question here is, why does this feature have to be enabled? All DELL servers reconnected without a hitch. I hear PoE is only really resevered for VoiP devices and such. What is it with Apple servers that need this feature turned on?
Look forward to hear from you all.
Xserver, Xraid, G5, etc   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I can confirm that portfast makes a huge difference, as the autonegotiation between the switch and the client is performed inside of about 2 seconds, rather than the standard thrash-around period of about 40 seconds that some ethernet devices can use to determine line speed and simplex / duplex operation.
Turn on portfast on any switch ports that you don't plan on using for trunking / uplinking. When you do this, it tells the switch that there isn't a managed switch / router downstream, so it doesn't need to try to negotiate routing protocols and whatnot - it greatly speeds up the autonegotiation process.
Also, on some Cisco switches (We found it on a Cisco Catalyst 4006) if you lock the port to a specific operating speed / mode (e.g. 100Mbps / full duplex), the Mac doesn't like it nearly as much as if you leave it to autonegotiation. We were having the exact same issue the OP is seeing (limited bandwidth, massive CRC error count) until we put it back to auto and enabled portfast, and then we got the performance we expected, without recurrence of the issue.

I try this code on cisco router, it work fine(if smtp server not avalable script print error 1-2sec).
    Thank you.

If the mailer server is not listening on tcp/25 or otherwise refuses the connection, then the socket attempt should die quickly.  If the mail server is truly unreachable, then the socket will never timeout until the EEM policy terminates.  This holds true on the latest version of EEM on routers as well.

  • Does Supervisor Engine 6L-E compatible with Cisco Ws-C4506 Non-E switch?

Does Supervisor Engine 6L-E compatible with Cisco Ws-C4506 Non-E switch?

Yes, it is compatible with non-e chassis.
    see below:
The Cisco Catalyst 4500 Supervisor Engine 6L-E is also compatible with classic Cisco Catalyst 4500 line cards, chassis (3-, 6-, and 7-slot), and power supplies, providing full investment protection.

  • Etherchannel trunk with two cisco switch

Hi, my company using only one Cisco 3750 switch with VLAN1,2,3,4,5.
Now my company bought another cisco switch and we would like to etherchannel trunk between both and create new VLAN in new switch.  We look over from partner, some of them suggested we use LACP, and some of them suggest we use PAgP.  We are so confuse which will be better in our environment.
    Previous: Router <> 3750 switch A (VLAN 1,2,3,4,5)
Now we bought another Cisco Switch B:  Router <>3750 switch A <> switch B (add more VLAN 6,7,8,9,10)
Which of below command is the best choice to suit our company ? suppose we use 2 port of gigabitethernet 1/0/1 and 1/0/2 trunk?  All VLAN 1-10 need to communicate with each other.
    interface GigabitEthernet1/0/1
channel-group 1 mode active  <<< (use "active" or "desirable" is the best choice)
     switchport mode trunk
    interface GigabitEthernet1/0/2
     channel-group 1 mode active
     switchport mode trunk
    interface Port-channel 1
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q << (do we need put this? as we think this is by default after trunk?)
     switchport mode trunk
switchport nonegotiate <<< (do we need "nonegotiate" if both switch setup same configure?)

    Hello
My understanding is pagp and lacp basically perform the same features - however as PAGP is cisco propriety LACP is IEEE standard which can be used between different route/switch vendor platforms.
As for disabling DTP ( switchport nonegotiate) - i would agree to do this suggestion, As so not to  have trunks being dynamically created.
Lastly i would manually prune unused vlans across trunk interfaces, to save on cpu and memory usage because of the stp instances that coild be used ( however such a small vlan database  like yours would not be an issue)
    So to summarise:
    Cisco to Cisco ehterchannels =PAGP
Cisco to other vendors = LACP
    L2 etherchannel
    ================
    1) default physical interfaces (if possible)
    2) configure port-channel in physical interfaces
-- port-channel will be created automatically
3)create trunking encapsulation or access port mode directly in port-channel interface
    4)enable physical interfaces "no shut"
    conf t
default int ran fa0/1 -3 ( if applicable)
    int ran fa0/1 -3
    shut ( if applicable)
    channel-group 1 mode xxx
    int port-channel 1
    switchport trunk encap dot1q
    switchport- mode trunk
    switchport nonegotiate

  • IPV6 with Cisco layer 2 switches.

I know IPV6 affects only layer 3 switches, but I heard that it also could affect layer 2 switches with VLANs. Is this true? I have Cisco 3500 / 2900 layer 2 switches. Please advise. Thanks

Thanks again but I have this layer 3 switch (4948) and it appears to have all the commands to configure ipv6 tunnel.
If it does not support tunnel, what does Cisco 4948 layer 3 switch provide under IPv6?
This is a link which shows tunneling under a 6500 switches with encapsulation/decapsulation. This is why I thought I could do the same with 4948 switch but apparently not...
