Mgnt IP address on 4506 w/ sup V

Hello all, I have two questions. The new 4506 SUP V engines don't have the good old SCO interface that I'm used to. So, since it's running an IOS now instead of the old CATos, I figured I'l create a new vlan and then make it the management IP address by using the 'MANAGEMENT' command (like in the old 2900's). Well, that didn't work either, so my question is...on what int. do I configure the mgnt. IP address?
-thank you....

Hi,
Just think of Cat4506 with SupV like being a router: Any L3 interface can be used for mgmt. This can be either physical with "no switchport" configured and IP address assigned or logical e.g. interface vlan (and IP address assigned).
Best regards,
Antonin

I like to ask how SMARTnet works for especially moduled switch. For example, I have 4506 switch ( Processor board ID SPE163200V3 ). According to recent renewed SMARTnet, it covered SPE163200V3. • Address book working very slowly

I just installed Snow Leopard and first thing I noticed was how long it took to load up my address book.
I use me.com to sync my contacts
when I open the address book app my laptop makes a lot of noise like it's trying to read the hard drive and it takes forever to load it up.
i also noticed Spotlight seems to be re-indexing the computer. Could this be why things are moving slowly? It's no longer re-indexing but the address book is still super slow. I have tried restarting the laptop many times.
What's happening...? Can I delete the address file and re-syncs it? Will that help?

Try to delete any smart folder if you got any, it worked for me.

  • Cisco 4506 getting restarted

I have Cisco 4506 with Sup V. It is has been joined with one of the VTP domain, but the switch is in Client mode. There are around 10 switches which are connecteing to that switch with trunk ports.
The switches which are connecting, some are in Transparent Mode and some in Client mode.
This switch is a root switch. The problem what I am facing with this switch is it has got hanged twice and restarted once. There is no config changes which are been made since it has been installed.
Can anybody please help me out.

have you physically changed the switch from one place to another, because even an voltage problem could also lead in such situationz, apart from this, you also try upgrading the OS in the switch. becuase changing the VTP domain it is not at all possible in making a switch getting restarted or hang.

  • Dot1x not working in conjunction with PortSecurity on Cisco 4500

It’s observed that – Phones are not coming up on network when 802.1x is enabled on port. After troubleshooting it’s noted that Port-Security restricts phones not to operate either in Data or Voice Vlans. Problem gets resolved by disabling port-security on port. Please confirm if it is the known limitation.
Here is the details about device Model & IOS version of switch.
    Model: Cisco 4506-E (Sup 6-E 10GE (X2), 1000BaseX (SFP) )
    Line Card:  WS-X4648-RJ45V-E
    IOS: cat4500e-entservicesk9-mz.122-54.SG1

    Using 802.1X with Port Security
You can enable port security on an 802.1X port in either single- or multiple-host mode. (To do so, you must configure port security with the switchport port-security interface configuration command.) When you enable port security and 802.1X on a port, 802.1X authenticates the port, and port security manages the number of MAC addresses allowed on that port, including that of the client. Hence, you can use an 802.1X port with port security enabled to limit the number or group of clients that can access the network.
For information on selecting multi-host mode, see the "Resetting the 802.1X Configuration to the Default Values" section.
These examples describe the interaction between 802.1X and port security on a switch:
•When a client is authenticated, and the port security table is not full, the client's MAC address is added to the port security list of secure hosts. The port then proceeds to come up normally.
When a client is authenticated and manually configured for port security, it is guaranteed an entry in the secure host table (unless port security static aging has been enabled).
A security violation occurs if an additional host is learned on the port. The action taken depends on which feature (802.1X or port security) detects the security violation:
–If 802.1X detects the violation, the action is to err-disable the port.
–If port security detects the violation, the action is to shutdown or restrict the port (the action is configurable).
The following describes when port security and 802.1X security violations occur:
–In single host mode, after the port is authorized, any MAC address received other than the client's causes a 802.1X security violation.
–In single host mode, if installation of an 802.1X client's MAC address fails because port security has already reached its limit (due to a configured secure MAC addresses), a port security violation is triggered.
–In multi host mode, once the port is authorized, any additional MAC addresses that cannot be installed because the port security has reached its limit triggers a port security violation.
•When an 802.1X client logs off, the port transitions back to an unauthenticated state, and all dynamic entries in the secure host table are cleared, including the entry for the client. Normal authentication then ensues.
•If you administratively shut down the port, the port becomes unauthenticated, and all dynamic entries are removed from the secure host table.
•Only 802.1X can remove the client's MAC address from the port security table. Note that in multi host mode, with the exception of the client's MAC address, all MAC addresses that are learned by port security can be deleted using port security CLIs.
•Whenever port security ages out a 802.1X client's MAC address, 802.1X attempts to reauthenticate the client. Only if the reauthentication succeeds is the client's MAC address be retained in the port security table.
•All of the 802.1X client's MAC addresses are tagged with (dot1x) when you display the port security table by using CLI.

  • Web host recommendations (that works with Mac IMAP Mail)

    hi all.
i did a lot of research and moved my sites to a HostGator and after going through all this effort i have been finding my sites are being shut down due to an issue where my IMAP email is pinging their servers and when they see 25 pings (or whatever) they shut down my site.
i have been through an excructiating two months of unchecking IDLE settings, unchecking Push and being told to move to POP (not an option for obvious reasons) and/or alternatively being told it is Mac Mail's fault. i have also been told not to check my email. in order to get a plan where checking my email on HostGator does not result in the shutting down of my website i am being told i have to sign up for a plan that is two and a half times more expensive per month than my previous plan.
i am at the point where it appears the easiest solution may be to get rid of my laptop or my iphone.
anyone have a good recommendation on a new host provider so i can get free of these guys?
    TIA

hi scott. thanks a lot for the post here. /so/ glad to hear from someone that is also having this issue.
i was not aware that postbox was still alive. i purchased this software and found that there were functionalities that had controls in the UI which were not operable and that some of the tools were very buggy. then they closed the forums so you could not talk to other users and then eventually they stopped providing me support. in any event, i have been thinking about installing and going back to Thunderbird so do you mind if i ask you some follow ups here?
i have about ten email addresses which sort of complicates things i think as it is uber helpful to know where i am getting an email to. i mean, one of my email addresses is "[email protected]" (super important to me) while others are to other addresses. also, i have two domains so if i just send everything to one address this is a bit confusing.
/anyway/ i /tried/ setting an "[email protected]" and set up forwarding in the CPanel to this "all@" address. then i simply put this one "all@" domain in my email client. for some reason i think this created duplicates in some cases. do you happen to know if FORWARDING as you describe means it will show up in BOTH the forwarded email address and in the ORIGINAL account? i mean, presumably the fact that you have the GMAIL account on your iphone means that this email gets forwarded to this GMAIL address (in my case /all/ my email addresses could get forwarded to this GMail address) but it ALSO shows up in your email client when you enter your email addresses INDIVIDUALLY?
do you know what i mean? i mean it sounds like you are suggesting (again really helpful) that i get my email in bulk on my iphone with all of them forwarded to this GMail address but if i ditch Mail and set up a client that presumably limits processes that i can get the mail individually on my laptop and on my desktop, yes?

  • How to rotate map to the direction I'm facing?

Hey all. I'm coming from Nokia Maps to this Here Map app. In Nokia Maps you can have the map orientated to the direction you are facing. It worked wonderfully if you are on foot looking for an address and came in super handy. I've noticed that Here doesn't do that. Am I not seeing it, or did they not program Here with this functionality?
Outside of that, I'm am finding out now that I finally have the US downloaded that Here is way more smoother! I used it on the plane yesterday and the map corresponded precisely to the landscape I was watching outside the window!
Thanks in advance for any help in figuring this out.
    Solved!

Here Drive will orientate itself to the direction of travel once you are in navigation mode. This is not available in Here Maps.

  • Email names are incorrect

Occasionally I will get emails from users who use a different email address for someone other than I do.  Lets say that I have a user in my Address Book called Joe Smith with email @icloud.com, someone else also has Joe Smith but they email him at @gmail.com.  If that person sends me and email with him also included in the message, I will see an email that has his name in the To field, not the email address.  Naturally since I see his name, I think that the system has linked his name and email address together in my address book and giving me his name there.  That is not the case, even though I don't have his gmail.com address in my system, it still shows his name like as if it was being passed through from the senders address book.  If I do a reply to all, now his gmail address is stored as his name in my previous recipients and new future mails will try to go to the wrong address I desire for him... it goes to gmail, not iCloud like I programed in address book.  This is until I remove him from previous recipients again and again.  Is there any way to get mail to not pass though the "friendly" names from senders into mail.  If I don't have them in my address book, I don't want just the name to show up. Including the email address in the field next to the name or something else to notify me that this address is not in your address book would be super helpful.  Does anyone know of a way to do this?
    Regards,
    Ryan

    Hey Guys,
The Defect: CSCti19329, indeed is cosmetic as long as the contacts in the contact list show correct "Available/Away/On The Phone" status as we utilize SIP Trunk for Presense Status.
This is cosmetic because of a DB schema change with CUCM 8.5.  Even though CUPS 8.0(x) is supported with CCM 8.5, due to DB Schema change, that error message in generated in the System Troubleshooter.
If you were to upgrade to any version 8.5 or higher, that error message will go away.
Hope that helps clarify info on this defect.

  • Cisco 6800 SSO configuration

    Hi All,
I am trying to find the guide on how to configure the SSO for the two supervisor engines. I am trying to recall if secondary ip addresses were required for the secondary supervisor for the SSO to work. Can someone guide me on this?

    Hi,
There is no need for any secondary IP address.  When one sup fails, the back up sup will take over all the functionally of the primary sup.
    here is the configs:
make sure you have the same exact IOS in both sups.
    Router> enable
    Router# configure terminal
Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.

  • NAC access list question

so we have a NAC in our lab, set up as L3 OOB....we have a vlan set up for internet only access..a route map is configured on the CORE to send the internet only traffic back to the NAC for restrictions (to mimic the inband solution)......in our unauthenticated role policy, we set up the access list on a vlan to only access the internet and block internal address...the weird thing is, the access list on the NAC works on any internal addresses, but when the pc pings/telnets the CORE itself (and any mgnt ip addresses) it works?????....anybody know the reason why...im sure a workaroud is to put an acl on the CORE itself to block that...
Hope my drawing is enough to assist.....

That's a great idea - the ACL on the management interfaces of the devices.
Is the ACL for the unauthenticated role on the L3 switch or the Core?
I would guess it is on the L3 switch, since it is likely the default gateway for that unauth vlan.

  • How to import config from 4404 WLC to WLC 5508

    Hi all
In one week I need to import the config from my 4404 WLC to my new 5508, then I just want to change the mgnt IP address of the 5508 and then bring it into the same mobility group.
How do I import the config when the 5508 is straight out of the box?
    Many thanks
    Carl

    Heck!!!!
This is unfortunately correct as per the doc you provided! :-(
I am already aware that there are some commands and features differs among different platforms but I thought Cisco passed this barrier by making WLC platform chooses appropriate commands from config file and ignore commands that does not suite importing platform!! but it does not seem to be correct!!!!!
I think if backup config file has only features that another platform support then config restore would possibly work.
But if config file has commands that considered unknown to the importing platform then here the problem may reside!
Surendra: do you know what are the consequences of doing this unsupported scenario of moving backup config amont different platforms?
I think Carl can try restoration process anyway and if does not work he can go to manual configuraiton then. But he is still have the chance of getting the config restored correctly.

  • Keys in DBMS

Hi, this is Khalid. I am new in DBMS. I have just started to study. I am having a little bit confusion in the Concept of Keys of DBMS and Attributes. So, I am getting little bit problem to understand the concept of Keys. Somebody, please help me.
Now, i am just going to show a Relation.
    Employee EMP_ID EMP_NAME EMP_SALARY
    101 Khalid 17000
    102 Rajib 16000
    103 Rahul 18000
    104 Dibakar 17000
    105 Akikul 16000
    106 Bidyut 16500
    107 Pranjal 16500
Somebody is saying that the rows or the tuples within the table are the Keys, whereas somebody's opinion is is the Column Title. So, i am in the confusion that if the column name is the key value, then what is an attribute ? Please explain the very basic concept of every type of Keys. Such as Super Key, Primery Key, Candidate Key, Foreign Key etc.
So, please help me. This is the very first time in any kind of forum. So, I politely request you everybody to give me a proper solution for my problem. Thanks.

    Here EMPLOYEE represents a table.
    EMP_ID, EMP_NAME, EMP_SALARY are attributes.
In the table mentioned above, EMP_ID is the primary key. Primary key is the key which can uniquely identify the rows of a table. Here u can see that primary key values are unique for each row.
The various types of key with e.g. in SQL are mentioned below, (For examples let suppose we have an Employee Table with attributes ‘ID’ , ‘Name’ ,’Address’ , ‘Department_ID’ ,’Salary’)
    (I) Super Key – An attribute or a combination of attribute that is used to identify the records uniquely is known as Super Key. A table can have many Super Keys.
    E.g. of Super Key
    1 ID
    2 ID, Name
    3 ID, Address
    4 ID, Department_ID
    5 ID, Salary
    6 Name, Address
7 Name, Address, Department_ID ………… So on as any combination which can identify the records uniquely will be a Super Key.
(II) Candidate Key – It can be defined as minimal Super Key or irreducible Super Key. In other words an attribute or a combination of attribute that identifies the record uniquely but none of its proper subsets can identify the records uniquely.
    E.g. of Candidate Key
    1 Code
    2 Name, Address
For above table we have only two Candidate Keys (i.e. Irreducible Super Key) used to identify the records from the table uniquely. Code Key can identify the record uniquely and similarly combination of Name and Address can identify the record uniquely, but neither Name nor Address can be used to identify the records uniquely as it might be possible that we have two employees with similar name or two employees from the same house.
(III) Primary Key – A Candidate Key that is used by the database designer for unique identification of each row in a table is known as Primary Key. A Primary Key can consist of one or more attributes of a table.
E.g. of Primary Key - Database designer can use one of the Candidate Key as a Primary Key. In this case we have “Code” and “Name, Address” as Candidate Key, we will consider “Code” Key as a Primary Key as the other key is the combination of more than one attribute.
(IV) Foreign Key – A foreign key is an attribute or combination of attribute in one base table that points to the candidate key (generally it is the primary key) of another table. The purpose of the foreign key is to ensure referential integrity of the data i.e. only values that are supposed to appear in the database are permitted.
E.g. of Foreign Key – Let consider we have another table i.e. Department Table with Attributes “Department_ID”, “Department_Name”, “Manager_ID”, ”Location_ID” with Department_ID as an Primary Key. Now the Department_ID attribute of Employee Table (dependent or child table) can be defined as the Foreign Key as it can reference to the Department_ID attribute of the Departments table (the referenced or parent table), a Foreign Key value must match an existing value in the parent table or be NULL.
    (V) Composite Key – If we use multiple attributes to create a Primary Key then that Primary Key is called Composite Key (also called a Compound Key or Concatenated Key).
E.g. of Composite Key, if we have used “Name, Address” as a Primary Key then it will be our Composite Key.
(VI) Alternate Key – Alternate Key can be any of the Candidate Keys except for the Primary Key.
E.g. of Alternate Key is “Name, Address” as it is the only other Candidate Key which is not a Primary Key.
(VII) Secondary Key – The attributes that are not even the Super Key but can be still used for identification of records (not unique) are known as Secondary Key.
E.g. of Secondary Key can be Name, Address, Salary, Department_ID etc. as they can identify the records but they might not be unique

  • Repeated Superdrive failures - does Apple care?

My superdrive has failed, 8 days after expiration of the three year Apple care plan. This is a replacement drive, as the original Superdrive failed and was replaced a little more than a year ago. Another computer, an eMac purchased in July 2004, has also had to have its Superdrive replaced. Apple telephone support was completely unhelpful, because the three years of Apple Care coverage had expired. I guess I'll have to gut it up and pay for a replacement drive, but I'm more troubled by the timing of this failure (planned obsolescence?) and the fact that I've had three Superdrives fail in three years. I will someday want to replace my computer, and I've got another Apple-user headed off to college next year and I'm starting to wonder about Apple's reliability, at least for Superdrives. And yes, I know they're third-party produced, but Apple sure isn't doing much to help me. Anybody have any advice?

Wow, I'm sorry that you've had such bad luck. I have an iMac G4 1GHz with a Sony Superdrive (Sony DVD RW DW-U10A) that has also been acting up for about the past 2 years.
A year ago, I purchased a drive from Amazon.com (Marketplace) that was supposed to be a replacement. It turned out that the drive was bad so I had to send it back. When I had my machine all torn apart, my friend dusted the lens on my Sony drive. We put it all back together and it seemed to work fine. About a year later, it's started acting up again. My drive has had very light use in the 3 years that I've owned the computer. I'm sure that I've burned 5 DVDs or less and maybe a total of 10 CDs. It's doing the 'kerchunk' thing when trying to read CDs now.
I've given up and decided to take it apart again and replace the drive. I ordered a drive from this site -http://www.mcetech.com/dvdr16xdt-d.html, and also ordered memory for the factory memory slot (512MB) from this site - http://www.memoryx.net/.
I did not extend my AppleCare after my first year of ownership and always kicked myself for not doing this. I'm really sorry that your drive died 8 das after the expiration. Have you tried calling 800-SOS-APPL and explaining your situation?
I'm not sure why Apple has not addressed the problem of super drives with the flat panel iMacs. We've been talking about this on the boards for at least 2 years and I've yet to see anything in the media about this.
Sony did make my drive so I suppose that I could complain to them about the failure. I'm just tired of the whole thing, and hope that my replacement drive will fix my problems. I would also like to purchase a new Mac but I'm a bit scared off by all of the battery recalls.
Other than the super drive issue, I've been very happy with my iMac. I'd like to upgrade to 10.4 though and really need a working drive to do so.
Again, sorry to hear about your troubles. You're not alone but I don't think there is much that we can do about this.
