Can you specify where exactly in the activation process you are getting stuck? For example: with a new phone after connecting to a network.
I assume you are using the iPhone 4 for development? Since the current latest version shipped is the 5.0.1. Version 5.1 is still in a Beta 3 phase.

I had a similar occurrence with my just activated iPhone 4.
I had been using the phone for three days when an odd occurrence with voice mail caused me to call tech support. After some discussion they decided to push the activation to my phone (even though I had been using it for three days). When I went to power it back up again I repeatedly got the "no service" notification. I got tech support on a land line and we tried hard reboots and so on. No joy. They told me to take it in to the point of sale and either the SIM card or the phone needed (or both) needed replacing.
I tried one last hard reboot after dinner and the phone came up with service, but I took it in to the point of sale in the morning and they swapped the SIM card out and I went to a Genius Bar appointment to get the phone checked out. It is supposedly OK, but I am still having some problems when syncing it so I will have to visit the Genius Bar again tomorrow about that. At least I have not experienced the "no service" problem in the roughly 24 hours since the SIM card was replaced. (Fingers crossed) -
After downlaoding ios5 and installing I get the message "we are unable to complete your activation at this time" when trying to update iphone 3gs to ios5 using itunes. Can anyone help?

Hi, I installed iOS6 beta without registering it to the developer program. Now on iTunes and on my phone I get the same "We're unable to complete your activation" error. What do I do?
You have to restore your phone. To do this turn off your phone and disconnect it from your pc or mac. You then have to plug in the usb part of your sychronize cable into your pc or mac. Open itunes. Now press and hold on the home button on your iphone and plug the cable into it while still holding down the home button. Your iphone will now be in recovery mode and on itunes you will see the option that says restore. Click on that and your phone will be restored to factory settings. If you backed up your itunes all your apps will be downloaded back on to your phone. Including all your contacts and text messages. It took me a couple of tries to restore my phone when this happened so if it doesnt work the first time do it again. Took me two tries. Today @ around 4:30PM PST on 4/20/11, right after doing the update to my iPhone4 to 4.3.2, from within iTunes I'm getting the following error, "We are unable to complete your activation at this time."
Is anyone else experiencing similar issues today? wondering if perhaps the activation server is down or something of the sorts.

That would be the wireless number assigned by AT&T when the purchaser of the iPhone signed up as a customer with AT&T. If neither you nor your uncle ever activated the iPhone with AT&T, click the "non customer" button.
Note that jailbreaking often renders it impossible to get an iPhone officially unlocked, so don't be surprised if it fails. If it does, then you may have to buy a new iPhone, this time one that is officially unlocked.

i don't understand what you're trying pinpoint because i'm not used to these things, i'm sorry...
what actually happened is that after i tried to install the latest software(i installed 2 softwares already if im not mistaken it was version 4 something and 5,i haven't got problems with that and my software is always updated. when the new software update arrive i tried to install it like i always do however, i just encountered this problem which resulted my phone into recovery mode)
it was still the same after few weeks of retrying, turn-off...all i can see on my phone is the itunes icon/logo.. then earlier i tried to restore my previous iphone software again via itunes, then it turned on (the itunes icon is gone now), there were simple instruction like what language to use, country from, and wifi connection thus resulting into this "sorry we're unable to continue your activation" thing. -

And I still like to backup to my own server!!!
What would be good is if I can put all the software licenses and product keys of the software and keep a record of my mac addresses for hardware and even static IP's in a file or a secure location within the MS online store.
That's where MS wants me to get my computing needs from in future and I will always be able to retrieve it in future but what about the $$$$$ I have spent on software, hardware and applications prior to now???

That's crap - This is a clean brand spanker install of Win7 and there was nothing b4 I put the oem drivers from Toshiba back on.
I looked at dozens of support pages and forum blogs and tried for hours to get a copy to download - including incognito and other logins but because my default PC name is also my MS Windows live ID the same error was repeated.
I keep away from the non MS sites for these things and with good reason - there were heaps of similar users with the same issue or very close to it that had downloaded from a supposed MS copy from eValue or digital river etc and the next
thing was total corruption of the OS.
EVENTUALLY I found a LIVE MS chat on a support site in the US and she gave me a link to a slightly older version which will need updating and some reg edit changes but so far, so good.
The point is - what a crock !
I should be able to just keep all my software, drivers, updates, service packs, and versions that I have upgraded in the MS store.
If Microsoft aren't going to support XP or Office 2003 and eventually 2007, vista & Windows7 not far behind??? then that's still no excuse for them to put these restrictions and limits when I OWN my copy of the software!!

the button is supposed to submit a email to ---->Sometimes a quick trick to try is to do a <CFABORT> on
the first line of code..run it, nothing will happen, then take it
out.. and when you run it again you'll probably get the detailed
diagnostics that'll tell you what it's not happy about.
Otherwise...just progressively comment out code until it
starts working, and you've isolated where the issue is. -
