Mac Mini not detecting display....please help
I just bought a mac mini and the plan was to run it through my tv using an HDMI cord. When I go to set things up. I get to the display section in "system preferences" and I started playing around with resolutions to see which would work best with the tv that I have. All the sudden the tv screen went black and now the tv doesn't detect the mac mini through HDMI. After restarting the computer the apple logo would come up and everything would start to boot and then it's like the tv and computer would drop the signal. I don't think that it's something that I done with the resolution.
I checked and seen that this is a common problem, but I don't know how to fix this problem. Any advice is good advice and I really appreciate it.Will that reset the display options?

This is common if in trying new resolutions you hit upon one that is not compatible with your TV.
Restart pressing & holding the Shift key until the gray screen with the spinning cogwheel appears. This is a slower startup as the Mac is running self diagnostics. When the Desktop appears go to System Preferences and reset the resolution to the correct setting. Restart normally.

Cannot get new Mac Mini to detect TV
I've just got a new Mac Mini which I wanted to connect to my TV via HDMI. I used to use my Macbook to connect to it using mini DVI to HDMI and it worked fine but the Mac Mini doesn't detect it at all. I've tried changing the resolution and various other things but no luck. Any ideas how to get it working?
Install the recent EFI firmware update for your mini that was just released. It should be available through software update. Do one power cycle of your mini after this firmware update.
Power your mini off. Power on the TV and switch to the specific HDMI port connected to your mini. Now, power on the mini. See if this TV first scenario and the firmware update resolve your TV detection and HDMI picture. -
Mac Mini Not Detecting Ethernet NIC
I have a weird one which I hope you can help me with. I have a Mac Mini SL server which operates as a DCHP and netboot server. Yesterday it stopped detecting its ethernet card which was resolved by a reinstall but when I started it today the problem had reappeared.
Is this the integrated NIC, or a USB widget?
Are you using a managed switch?
What do you mean by detecting its Ethernet card? No Ethernet card was found at boot-time? The Ethernet card was found at boot, and then lost or forgotten or disappeared as the system ran? The card was found at boot, then (which still present) disconnects or otherwise stops working?
What command(s) are you using to check this?
In general (and you've probably already confirmed this, but...), see if the connection to the switch is set up correctly, and see if the cable is connected, and swap cable and switch-port as a test... -

Removing QTSS (To use my Mac Mini as an Apache Web server)
I have removed all of the QTSS files (I think) and I can not enable personal web sharing in the System Preferences. Nor can I go to Terminal and enable Apache. I really need a way to get the Apache server to work. At this point I dont care if QTSS is still on my mac or not!
I have resolved this issue by deleting a few files!

Mac Mini wont connect to the internet both wired or wifi! Any help?
My other two Macbooks will connect to the net both wired and wifi. As of this morning my Mac Mini just stopped connecting all together. I have version 10.6.8. I only really use the Mac Mini to browse the web and watch movies off of my external hard drive.
I've tried connecting to another wireless network and the same thing happens. I tried connecting to different ports on my router and nothing. My Macbooks have zero issues with connecting. Any ideas???if you are using Airport it has problems connecting to some modems on dsl systems.

Configuring Mac Mini Server via Airport Extreme via Netopia Modem
Can any anyone help me with the settings to allow internet access to my Mac Mini Server by a Web browser. What way to you configure the modem and extreme. The modem seems to want to duplicate a lot of the features of the extreme in it a has its own port forwarding etc. I have manually set all devices with fixed ip addressas it shares the net work with a Windows SBS. I have a static IP Address and Domain name registered and hosted dns has the domain tranfered. Nat is enabled and ftp, itunes ports open.
Internet is working on the local network which has a 3 Capsules, IMac, and 2 apple TV's all working and streaming from the server. Running Lion from last week.
Would appreciate any help as this is is my first time to use the forum.
Thanks again.First welcome to the discussions.
To set up the client you'll first have to ask the Network Administrator for the name of the VPN server. The username and other details you will need to log on.
You will also need to find out if the VPN uses PPTP or L2TP over IP Sec. with that information in hand open Internet connect in the Applications folder choose NEW VPN Connection then you click on either PPTP or L2TP whichever the network uses, then click continue in the confiquration pop up menu, Choose Edit confiqurations Then enter the information the Network administrator gave you.
Bear in mind that the OSX client does not work with all VPN's.
You may have to purchase a universal VPN client such as VPN Tracker from Equinux ($90.00).

After i installed updates for my mac mini server, the web services for the server app wont start, it gives an error massage: "Error Reading Settings"
The system logs reads:
Mar 29 22:06:25 server servermgrd[82]: servermgr_web: Error Domain=XSServerFoundationErrorDomain Code=4 "Failed to read settings: Exception:
undefined method `downcase' for nil:NilClass
." UserInfo=0x7fc547901080 {NSLocalizedDescription=Failed to read settings: Exception:
undefined method `downcase' for nil:NilClassTo check the local network for some of the common configuration problems, launch Terminal.app and issue the following diagnostic command:
sudo changeip -checkhostname
That'll report some local configuration information and then either no errors detected and no changes required, or it'll point to whatever configuration errors or issues it might detect. That doesn't catch everything, but it catches the common errors.
FWIW, 192.168.0.0/24 and 192.168.1.0/24 are poor choices for the local network, as VPNs are based on IP routing and IP routing gets tangled when the same subnet is used on both ends of the VPN. 192.168.0.0/24 and 192.168.1.0/24 are near ubiquitous in home networks and coffee shops. -
Hi my Mac mini will not stay on the network today and is slower than a pc to lad a web page.
I've followed various suggestions off the web and still have the same problem. 1 second the network is available and working slow and the next it says in network diagnostics that ISP has failed. The router is fine as I'm using an iPad and iPhone and all is working perfectly at +5 Mbps however when I try to open yahoo in safari it take about 5 minutes to open the page and then when I try to create a new mail I get the same Tim delay and then can't enter a send to address!
I've never managed to sort out email either but it not for a lack of trying about 30 different suggestions.
I'm fairly new to mac and am getting very very frustrated with not being able to solve these problems.
Can anyone please steer me towards a step by step or screen by screen resolution please please please help? Please answer as many of the following questions as you can. You may already have answered some of them; in that case, there's no need to repeat the answers.
Restart your router and your broadband device, if they're separate. Any change?
If possible, connect to your router with an Ethernet cable and turn off Wi-Fi. Any difference?
Are any other devices on the network, and if so, are they the same?
If you can connect to more than one network, are they all the same?
Are all network applications affected, or only some? If only some, which ones?
Is networking always the same, or is the problem intermittent?
Disconnect all other devices from the network. Any change?
Boot in safe mode and test. Any difference?
If possible, turn off Bluetooth and disconnect any USB 3 devices. Any difference? -
Can I use my iPhone as a web cam for my mac mini?
Just purchased my mac mini and I need a good web cam. Seems I should be able to use my iphone
There is an app (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/iwebcamera/id369617568?mt=8) that can do what you want. But, unfortunately only suports OSX Lion, Snow Leopard and Leopard (suport info).
This other app (https://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/webcamera/id348150234?mt=8) didn't say the exact OS X compatibility... -
I connect my intel mac mini to my widescreen monitor through a mini dvi to vga adapter, bought at an apple store. This use to show correct diplay settings and I used 1440x900. About a month ago there was an update and now I cant see the option for 1440x900 any more. The display is all stretched and ugly. I tried the monitor off of my PC, a new samsung and the mini will not recognise that either over the vga adapter. I have tried a new adapter and that did not work either.
Is there anyway I can turn off the autodetect and just set the resolution. I have heard of some shareware program but I do not want to use it. I don't really trust downloading applications from websites.Trev, I thought you had already updated to Lion. So 10.6.8 did that?
I'd suggest you do not upgrade to Lion till 10.7.1 or 10.7.2 is out fixing graphics driver bugs and other reported ailments.
Are you still under warranty with your system? Or have extended AppleCare?
I am not sure Apple is giving 10.6.9 any priority ... It might be worth calling.
SwitchResX is a reputable program that has been around for a while. Many have used it in the past when OSX wasn't that good at detecting external monitors & TV resolutions. I would give it a whirl. It has a two week free demo. -
My Mac mini no longer detects my monitor resolution
My Mac Mini has stopped being able to detect the resolution of my monitor, which is a 1680x1050 Acer widescreen. 1680x1050 is also no longer a choice of resolutions under 'Displays' in 'System Preferences' so I cannot select my monitor resolution manually. I suspect that there is a bug somewhere in a recent update which has broken support for my monitor. Is there an official channel by which I can report this bug? Has it been reported already? Is there an ETA on a fix? This renders my Mac more or less unusable.
Here's some info about what I'm running:

You might try a few tricks before taking it in for service or springing for a Mac compatable external DVD drive.
1. Reset the SMC > Resetting the System Management Controller
2. Reset the PRAM > Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
3. Clean it, for example with a > Memorex OptiDisc CD/DVD Laser Lens Cleaner
