Mic and Cam won't work on iChat

Hello
I have a new mac pro, so I am a beginner! However, I know that the cam is working and that there is a function mic because when I can see it on My Display iSight. I see me, and I see the audio. But on iChat the camera and phone icons are not green and I cannot use them.
Moreoever, in google talk I do have a camera icon, but when I try and call people on google talk they cannot hear me! I can't find anything about the mic anywhere.
Please, anything you can do to help would be awesome.

Hi Cathjoy,
IF in System Preferences > Sound you can see the Sound Blue Bar in the Input Tab move at least half way (preferably 3/4) - then you need to check ichat in a couple/three of places.
1) In the View Menu of iChat make sure "Show Video Status" (And Audio) is selected (Ticked). (this shows the green Audio and Video Icons)
2) In the Video Menu of iChat again both Mic and Camera Enabled item should have a tick next to it (Selecting toggles it On or Off)
3) In the iChat Menu > Preferences > Video section there should be a Microphone drop down and your choice here should match the one in System Preferences > Sound > Input tab and you should see the Green bar here move when you talk.
When doing 1) make sure the correct Buddy List is the "Front" Window (Your own icon may still display as a Video one if another Buddy List is set to Video in iChat 4 and iChat 5)

For this, or any other, iSight trouble, start with http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
If your iSight problem occurs in more than one app and more than one user account, the reset suggested there often restores proper function of inbuilt iSight.
However, if after carefully following all the suggestions in the "How to Troubleshoot iSight" article, your built-in iSight still does not work, and if it does not show as a USB device in your Mac's System Profiler, yours is most likely a hardware problem. In that case, contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.

  • Installed new iOS and camera won't work

I have been successfully using my iphone5 camera for over a year.  After downloading iOS 7.0.4 about 2 weeks ago, my iphone5 camera is useless.  When I select 'camera', my screen comes up either totally black or, other times, it shows an indistinguishable blurry image that is frozen on the screen.  Does anyone have a solution for this problem.  The phone's camera was working perfectly before this new iOS was installed.

Try a reset: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until you see the apple, then let go. (No data loss)

  • Mic and Cam issues

I tried to Skype with my family last night, and my mic and cam did not work. They did when I first got this computer (laptop). For some reason, they did not work last night. I could hear and see my family, but they could not hear nor see me.

You mean it Failed? uhmmm. It could be a hardware issue but try to reload your OS first and see if it rectifies the issue. (make sure you have a backup of your data ). See How to clean reload the BlackBerry 10 OS or BlackBerry PlayBook OS using BlackBerry Link

  • Hi, I was just wondering how much it would cost to repair the rear camera of my iPhone 4s. I dropped it and it won't work and I hear something rattling inside when I shake it. How much would it cost to fix?

If you have a tool, try removing the battery cover and chech out. Some times the camera pin may have been misplaced. If so, you can fix it yourself.

If you restored to factory settings/new iPod via iTunes (Not via Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Setting) and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.

  • Torch won't turn off and back camera won't work after dropping it in a pool. What can I do?

I put it in rice as soon as I got back, and left it for 36 hours as instructed by a website and friends. Ever since dropping it the torch hasn't turned off and the bac camera won't work.

Water and electronics do not mix well.  Your device may not ever work properly again, and probably needs to be replaced.  Unless you have the AppleCare Protection Plan Plus, then it will cost $199 USD to replace an iPhone 4S.
The rice trick works best if you leave it for at least 4-5 days, not 1.5 days.  But even that is no guarantee.

  • After last update, flash won't run, camera won't work, slow slow slow!

icon of camera won't work to send pic with text

    Howdy Mitzymom,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like there is an issue sending texts with photos from the Messages app on your iPhone. If the issue only occurs in when tapping the icon in the Messages app, not when texting pictures from other apps like the photo app, try the general app troubleshooting suggestions below on the Messages app.
iOS: An app you installed unexpectedly quits, stops responding, or won’t open - Apple Support
    Restart the app
Close the app and open it again.
    Restart your device
Turn the device off and on.
Update your device software and your apps
Update your device to the latest version of iOS.
If the issue occurs when trying to send texts with photos from any app, try the MMS and iMessage troubleshooting suggestions here:

  • I have spent hours trying to install Adobe Flash on Firefox and it won't work.

I have spent hours trying to install Adobe Flash on Firefox and it won't work.

    Seems a common problem.
What OS are you using, Windows 8 64 bit or something? Win 8 has an embedded Flash Player on it, and I have been told here that if this is the case, installing a new version of Flash Player is not necessary, but Fire Fox needs the plug in. They came out with a Flash Player plug in for use with Fire Fox that includes a debugger, but I have not tried it yet. (see below).
I have tried installing Flash Player 11.8.800.994  and 11.7.70.224...... and all crash. I think maybe some anti virus software needs to be disabled to allow installation, or the anti virus thinks its malware. I am also not sure if I need to also install Shockwave Flash for the whole thing to work?
Not sure the following will help and I am about to try it because I am going round in circles, too.
If 11.7 extended support release works for you, would you please update your success by adding a reply at the bottom of your original post, and let us know what you did that worked?

  • Display with Mic and Camera

I have loved my iMac but am dying to move to a Mac Pro with Cinema display. Is it impossible to add a built in camera and mic within the cinema? I mean, with photobooth, iChat, etc...it seems like a brilliant but simple move on Apple's part to incorporate a built in camera and mic into the cinema like it is built into the iMac.

I am planning on waiting until Apple does incorporate a mic and camera into the Cinema before I buy that and a Mac Pro. It seems to only make sense they will be releasing that since they no longer offer a camera/mic unit like the one in the past they offered.
I love the iMac but I don't like all the external drives, etc you need to use it when needing a bunch of storage space like I do. I am a songwriter, videographer and my iTunes music library is closing in at 400GB soon...so three 500GB external hard drives is cluttering up the place. I would rather have three 500GB internal hard drives in a Mac Pro. Also, the fact that you cannot add a second optical drive, like a Lightscribe drive, which is what I want to do to my comptuter, again by adding it internally is the way I see my future.
I just like the my destop and area around my desk/computer to be clutter free and to have to have three external hard drives, an external lightscribe drive or potential BluRay drive down the road AND a camera/mic that is external is just too much to bear at the moment.
I guess we all can dream...and mine is an Apple Cinema with a built in mic/camera.
