Mic boost for line in input on MacBookPro
I would like to use my headset while playing online games.
Only problem is that when I plug my headset microphone jack in the MBP "line in/mic in" input the computer/windows or lets say the integrated sound card (sigma tel audio) thinks that I'm plugging in a line signal device like a cd deck or some other device that has a "line signal" output level. There is no place in the windows mixer, where you could ad the Mic boost for the line in channel, which you can set to the microphone channel in the windows mixer. The Sigma tel mixer application doesn't have it either
One solution is to buy a small preamp for the microphone, but still, this me **sses me off...
I don't think OSX doesn't have this problem so it probably means this is a boot camp sound card driver issue or a missing feature in the sigmal tel & windows mixer application.
Hi,
To mute Line In input, maybe this picture will help.

an you tell me how to add an advanced action to the TEB so you can check for multiple lines of input? How do you add the advanced action?
Can you elaborate your requirement?
If you want to have a text wrapped around and enable a scroller for the same, you can achieve it by TEB properties and check the scroll bar option,
Is this what you are looking to achieve?

mac has a booster for volume--called boom-is there anything for viewing stream tv/movies on mac to make brighter--streaming tv is so dark you can not see--what is out there for this problem
Hi shldr2thewheel,
it has been a while since we have last spoke, I would like to let you know, I am still working on getting used to the switch from windows to a Mac/Apple system. I do have a new question for you, I did purchase In Design CS5.5 through journeyed.com through Cuyahoga Community College of which I attend as a student, is there a way to purchase an online book through iTunes to learn that as well? Also, you know me, the struggling student, I would also, when and if the book can be purchased through the iTunes, would need to know if you do know of a much easier book for struggling students like myself and at a reasonable price as well for the In Design CS5.5 program. Our campus bookstore had closed early, and, so did the colleges library and our local library here where I do live, so, I cannot go to either place to purchase a book or to take out a book, plus cash funds are low at this moment as well but, I do have money left on the iTunes account to use, if it can be used. So, can it be used, the iTunes money, towards finding a low priced online book? I am in great need of assistance as I have a project due for my one course for this Tuesday, September 4, 2012.
Sincerely in need of help once again,

Dymanic mic in 1/4" line2 input not workking?
I'm using? a Audigy 2ZS Platinum which came with Cubasis VST 4.0, FL Studio 4, and Wavelab lite.
My system is a Opteron 2.0? with 2 gig ram and windows xp. I'm trying to record from a dymanic mic plugged into the front panel /4" line2 and I can't figure out how to get it to work. I know the mic and cord are good (tested them). When I test for the mic in control panel - sounds the only mic that shows up working is the headphone/mic set. I know I need to use a pre amp with a condenser mic, do I also need to use one with a dymanic mic.Re: Dymanic mic in /4" line2 input not workking?v The problem turned out to be the AD_Ext cable. I was able to use an old ide cable that didn't have any of the holes in the connector ends plugged. It now works, but I've noticed I don't get much volume from what I record with a mic. I'm using a dymanic mic and I have a shunt on the JP jumper. My setup is as follows:
Behringer ub2 mixer with 4 preamp channels. The mixer is connected to a small amp (which goes to a couple of speakers)
I'm also using rca connectors from the tape out on the mixer to the rca connectors for line 2 on the front panel for the audigy 2zs platinum. The instruments are being recorded with good volume, but the mic isn't. I have the volume knob for the line 2 aux turned all the way up and it didn't help? enough. I have a small 2 channel preamp that I'm thinking of trying to boost the volume of the mic with. -
Line-in input not working correctly in Garageband
Problem:
Line-in input not working correctly with Garageband. Problem occurred AFTER installing and using Blue Yeti USB mic, purchased from the Apple store.
System Details:
'07 20" iMac 2.4GHz 4GB RAM, OSX 10.6.5, Garageband '11 v6.0, Logitech Z4 speakers.
Background:
Before using the Yeti USB mic, I used the line-in jack. I'd connect a Shure mic or guitars directly in, but more recently through a 12 channel mixer. Have connected the Shure mic directly into the input jack, and the computer appears to be picking it up (System Preferences->Sound->Input), it is responding correctly there. Have set the output to the headphone (line-out) jack. When I go into Garageband, I can select from Line-in 1, Line-in 2, and Line-in Stereo. The trouble is that it's the iMac's built-in mic that is active (the one above the screen), not the line-in. I've rebooted the computer, checked the connections, reconnected the Yeti mic and I can't find what's causing the problem. Not sure what to do from here, need some help. ThanksI have Logic Express on the iMac as well and I worked out how to set the input device back to the Line-In. I went back to Garageband and found the equivalent setting under Preferences->Audio/MIDI. Thanks for reading, sorry I didn't sort it out sooner! Merry Christmas!

XiFi Titanium PCI Express ($99) - No 20db Mic Boost setting available
I just upgraded from the XiFi GamerXtreme to the XiFi Titanium card. I no longer have the ability to apply the 20db mic boost setting that was available to me with my old card and drivers. I have looked everywhere and searched forum high and low for an answer. My drivers are upto date for the new card according to AutoUpdate program. As a result, people on Ventrilo can hardly hear me even after boosting my voice 800%.
Where is the 20db mic boost setting for the Titanium cards? There is no Customer tab anymore.
Also, I have no front panel hook up. I have the mic plugged into the Flexijack and have switched from Line-in to Microphone using Audio Control Panel. I am set up in Gaming Mode as well. All Mic volume settings I can find (both in Ventrilo and Creative software) are set to max. Under Recording Devices, I have Microphone Creative SB X-Fi set as default device. It sounds like you have the rear jack set to LINE-IN. This can be fixed...
1. open the Creative Audio Control Panel. It should of installed itself with the drivers.
2. Open the Flexi-Jack TAB and select Microphone.
Now it should be louder.... but there is still a problem with my setup thanks to Creative in all its wisdom removed the 20db Option.... I think this card has the feature hidden in there because the pervious drivers? 2.7.7 were about 20 db louder than the 2.7.8 drivers... I guess they have outsourced everything and everyone...
After 20 years and 0 good cards later it is all going downhill... Time is too valuble for me to be searching the net for fixes...reading through the registry etc... hence this card is going in the bin and I am not buying anymore Sound Blaster products...
good day sir... and good luck -
Logic Mics, Aggregate Devices and The Input Issue
There is a lot of discussion about Logic's inability to accept simple microphone inputs, and I ran into this for two frustrating DAYS of trying all the things in the Logic Express 8 Docs to fix it—to no avail.
But now it is solved, so I'm trying to create a DEFINITIVE list of steps and principles here so others may quickly blast past this issue.
The equipment I have seems to be emblematic to the problem. The Blue Snowball is one of those USB mics that simply doesn't automatically show up in Logic's Preferences > Devices > Core Audio >Device list. The fix for this is never mentioned in the Logic manual or Getting Started docs that I can find. There is a passing reference on page 100 that is virtually zero help, and does not bother to mention how this Prime Gotcha can bring you to your knees.
Principle #1: Logic uses the Preferences > Devices > Core Audio >Device (list) process to identify which microphone you can record with. The list has to have in it an entry that makes sense for both the incoming audio and the playback path that Logic uses to feed earphones or an external monitor.
Normal items on that list look like this:
Built-in Output/Line Input
Built-in Output/Digital Input
Built-in Line Output/Input
Built-in Line Output/Digital Input
Built-in Digital Output/Line Input
Built-in Digital Output/Input
The Built-in Output is the computer’s inner speaker or headphones. The Built-in Line Output is the computers stereo jack for feeding to an amplifier. The Built-in Digital Output is the fiber optic feed that can also feed an amp with up to six parallel audio channels (okay, 5.1 channels).
Nothing on that list will show a fully functional USB microphone that is being viewed on the computer’s System Prefs > Sound > Input page, even though the metering dots there show that the computer sees a live, active microphone.
Selecting the Mic in the Sound prefs page does nothing to pass it on to the Logic > Preferences > Devices > Core Audio >Device list of selectable items. This is frustrating, since GarageBand sees the live mic without any problem, but GB is a simpler program that has fewer options while Logic has many other potentials, so a one-size-fits-all solution may not be its best default setting.
To get the mic into Logic, you have to go into the Audio MIDI Setup utility program where a peculiar option appears that is called “Aggregate Device”.
This keyword is not found in the Mac docs, and understanding it seems to be a big secret. Even the Audio MIDI Setup help page will show you how to find it, but not how it works or how to use it for Logic. Ahem.
You open Audio MIDI Setup and under its header bar Audio is only one item, sure enough, Open Aggregate Device Editor. That opens a window that has two sections, an upper window with Aggregate Devices / In / Out across its top, and a lower window that shows all the options that the computer is aware of. The lower window is called “Structure:” and columns show Clock / Use / Audio Device / In / Out / Resample.
A default item “Aggregate Device” shows in the top panel, and you can add others and double click on one to change its name. You can make many variations here.
By default these will be present:
Built-in Line Input
Built-in Digital Input
Built-in Output
Built-in Line Output
Built in Digital Output
At the bottom of this list any other audio input devices that are plugged into the computer should show up. If they can be seen in the System Prefs > Sound > Input page, they’ll be here, too.
When I plug my Blue Snowball USB mic into the computer, it shows up here as Blue Snowball.
You create an Aggregate Device by clicking on your sound source, in my case, the Blue Snowball, then adding one or more other options.
When you click the Use check box for any entry, it pops to the top of the list.
Principle #2: An Aggregate Device is used by Logic to “see” both an audio input and an audio output path at the same time. The Device you’re creating at this point must include an input Audio Device AND at least one Output item to be fully functional for Logic. A Help page in Audio MIDI Devices called “Combining multiple audio devices” explains this in bare bones, but you can’t see that help page unless the Audio MIDI Devices utility is open.
In my case, I’ve checked the Blue Snowball and Built-In Line Output, so I can use that combo in Logic to define where the mic is coming from and where the Logic audio output should go to my line-input amp and speakers.
In the Audio MIDI Setup utility, simply selecting the Blue Snowball as the “Default Input:” device and/or the “Properties For:” options shows that the Audio Output area of the page has this cryptic message: “Output is not supported.”
At this point, you’re almost ready to go, and you can close the Audio MIDI Setup utility. But there is at least one more “gotcha” to conquer.
Principle #3: Logic ONLY looks for its list of usable Core Audio Devices when it starts up. If you have it open right now, all the choices made for Aggregate Device will not show up as selectable. Save any work in Logic, shut it down, then boot it up again.
Now you can use Logic's Preferences > Devices > Core Audio >Device list to see your Aggregate Device. I’ve named mine “Snowy Line Out” to trigger my recognition of what it contains. Another one is called “Snowball + Line + Digital” and it has both line and digital outputs aggregated to the Snowball mic input.
You can make one in the Aggregate Device Editor that combines a microphone plus earphones (Built-in Output) plus Line and/or Digital Outs, too. You'll have to switch among them in Logic as you work, but each will carry the live mic direct to recording.
I hope this gets you through the frustration of not knowing what to do when confronted with the lack of clear docs and complete steps to get a USB mic or other seemingly opaque input issue. Feel free to add to this so others in my former state of bewilderment can gain understandings.
If Steve Jobs were to encounter the level of opacity, ambiguousness and frustration that setting up a simple USB microphone can create in Logic, you can bet that the several programs and their intimate interdependency would be either automated or fully explained in the documentations that followed his fiery analysis of the issue.I don't know of another way to get the Blue Snowball USB mic to show up in Logic. If you can do it without having to go through the Aggregate Device route, feel free to post here how to get that to happen.
I didn't have a different mic available when I started trying to do what seemed to be the simplest of things -- record and play back an audio track -- and nothing else seemed to work.
There are a lot of Aggregate Device threads around here, many associated with Blue Snowball, Blue Snowflake and other things, but none of them laid out the principles of how Aggregate Device Setup needs to work or what to do to force it into compliance.
As I said, the clues in the Logic docs and in-mac docs are minimalist, at best, none of them bringing instant head slaps of success readily. -
How Do I Configure the PFI Lines as input in PXI 6713 module
Hi,
I have PXI 6713 module in my PXI 1044 chassis. I have configured PXI 6713 module to geneate certain analogue signals to my board.
Board inturn process this analogue signal and responds back the status signals through a status register on the board. In my application, the status bits in status register of the board are mapped to the PFI 0:3 bits on PXI 6713 module ( pins 11,10 , 42 and 43).
My query is how do i configue the PFI lines as input in PXI 6713 module to read these status bits ??
May be below explanation could give you little bit more information w.r.to my query.
When i use NI USB - 6008 module to read the same bits , since this device has 12 digital I/O lines, i could able to read the status bits in to the last 4 digital lines by configuring the those digital lines as input.
In PXI 6713 module i have only 8 digital lines. These 8 digital lines i have used to send the digital signals to the board. I am left with no digital I/O lines. Hence i couldn't use these digital lines. I am left with only one option to use. Theya re PFI lines. Moreover the status bits in the pin out of board are mapped such that the bits can be read through the PFI lines.
I am wondering do we have any example code to use inorder to read these status bits on the board using the PFI lines.
Please let me know if you need additional information to help me out.
Thanks.
Solved!
Go to Solution.Hello There,
When using the PFI pin as an input, you can individually configure each PFI for edge or level detection and for polarity selection. This PFI information can be referenced in the DAQ Analog Output Series Manual on page 6-1 (http://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/370735e.pdf). Unfortunately, the PXI-6713 PFI lines are only capable of timing input and output signal for AI, AO, or counter/timer functions. The option of creating static DI from the PFI lines is not available for the PXI-6713. However, some cards have this capability. Newer National Instruments products with PFI lines have the option of setting PFI lines as:
Static Digital Input
Static Digital Output
Timing Input Signal for AI, AO, DI, DO, or counter/timer functions
Timing Output Signal from AI, AO, DI, DO, or counter/timer functions
(http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/14F20D79C649F8CD86256FBE005C2BC4)
When set as static DIO, the PFI lines are assigned to a different port (eg. PFI0-7 is Port1). More details about this can be referenced at:

Disable load balancing on dual PRIs - 3640 with MICA modems for dial out
We have a custom application that connects through reverse telnet to a Cisco 3640 that has 2 NM-24DM modules and 2 PRIs connected to it. Currently all outgoing calls are getting load balanced over the two PRIs. I need to change that so that all calls go over the first PRI and when all channels are used up, it starts using the second PRI. Seems like a simple enough thing to do but I can't figure out how to.

ShahidIf I understand the question I think that isdn bchan-number-order is the command you are interested in. I think it detaults to round-robin, sounds like you want ascending (that is isdn bchan-number-order ascending). It is an interface subcommand.
See http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/12_3t/12_3t2/feature/guide/gt_ibcac.html#wp1055853
That may only apply to native ISDN calls and not MICA based calls, but see if that helps. -
Audio line-in input won't work
Hello,
have used Garageband several times in the past, and have had no problems setting the input as audio line-in to record my guitar. However, I tried again for the first time in a couple of years the other day and neither my Powerbook or my iMac would allow me to do it. In System Preferences, the audio line-in input option was not in the drop-down menu. I could only choose iSight or built-in microphone.
I don't think it is the mini-jack adapter that I am using that is the problem. It hasn't been damaged as far as I can see and fits in the socket fine. I tried it in the headphones socket and it clicks in place there and registers in the system preferences. Has there been some kind of bug in a recent(ish) update that has killed audio line-in inputs?
Am running Leopard on PowerPc processors. Realise that the tide has turned against these two computers and that they will need replacing in the next year or two.
Any help massively appreciated ...Did you see the fix for this problem and did you try it? I use to do a lot of direct line in recording with my guitar and now I have the same problem. I won't be able to try to fix till tonight. I am in Oregon. So I was just curious if you got a solution.
Cause I am kind of ****** about this.
I would appreciate you feedback!
Thanks

How to wait for a digital input to go high?
I bet the following question is explained somewhere but I don't know how to find it.
Is there an optimal way to wait for a digital input to transition from 0 to 1? I mean, other than creating a loop that continously polls the input line is there a better way to wait for the transition? With all the "event driven" capability of CVI I suspect there's a slick way to do this but I don't know how to find it. I'm willing to RTFM if I know where to look.
thanksHi,
I have never done this, but it looks like it is possible to use the DAQmxRegisterSignalEvent function to assign a function that will be called when a "change detection event" occurs.
It works on a task basis, so if I'm not mistaken, you need to put the digital to be tracked into a separate task.
It is not stated if all NI hardware is compatible with this functionality, so try and see if it works for you.
Hope this helps,
Edit: It looks like you have already found the solution by yourself

Recording line-level input with Griffin iMic
I'm having trouble recording line-level input from a stereo system with a Griffin iMic. Even though all extraneous inputs have been deactivated, I'm still getting a slight feedback hum. There should be no extraneous noise whatsoever. I haven't done this in quite a while, so I've forgotten what I must do. Any help is apprreciated. Thanks very much. Peace,
iBook G3, 1.42 Mac mini G4 DVD±RW Mac OS X (10.3.9) 640Mb SDRAM, 1gb DDRAMI'm trying to digitize an audio cassette with
Soundtrack Pro. My setup includes a Griffin iMic
that goes to a USB port. The trouble I'm having is
in controlling the input volume. The level meters
indicate clipping, but I'm not clear how to set the
input level.
If it's in the Recording tab (>Input) with the Gain
slider, mine is greyed out.
M Wohlgy,
(I know this is months after your post.)
Control of the iMic volume is in the Preferences pane called "Sound". You can set the output and the input levels there.
Remember the iMic's position switch works only for the imput, either close to the microphone icon for "microphone" or away from it for "line in".
I use the iMic exclusively.

Garageband '08 - Mac won't recognize the Line-in input.
I've had my mac for a while now but i havent been using the line in input to record much. The last time i used it i plugged in my electric guitar directly into my mac and on garage band i can see that it is only receiving signals on the left but not on the right. i thought it was my guitar's fault or the cables fault. Checked my guitar, bought new cables but the problem persists. But this time i'm not getting any signals at all!! i've tried everything. I bought a usb interface but that didn't work. so if anyone has any ideas please help me.
I have to admit that the links posted DO share some important info, however using the line input
requires some knowledge.
You have to know the difference between stereo and mono, the relative impedances of your equipment v. the line input, and most importantly what level your stuff puts out v. what level the line inpt expects and can deal with.
it is very VERY easy to screw up with the miniplugs and short out the inputs which it seems several people have already done.
I use a very VERY cheap mixer and a simple two-RCA to One-mini stereo cable. ( a pretty sturdy one)
That gets me a clean input with the channels correctly separated , impedance correct and a controllable level at a ballpark setting that does not overload or stress the input.
It may sound overly technical to you, but all of this info is contained in the manuals for things like keyboards, and mixers. Guitars are a different story and should not be plugged directly into a line input. ( Impedance and level are specialized in electric guitars and require a certain matching )
I am sorry that so many have problems with this, but there are things to know. ( Not flaming anybody here). I just recently got a USB interface.
Installation was dead easy, but I found it necessary to read the manufacturers FAQs and forums to get just the right settings to use it, hear it, and not blow anything up.
And I have MASSIVE experience. And I have blown things up in the past.
Just for instance, The line level coming out of the Mac is -10db, And I assume the input is -10db too, which is perfectly normal for prosumer audio. But if you use a mixer, and it's a pro model you will have a +4 db output (Blow up time), so you have to control it.
Impedance is usually measured in k-ohms for these things and an input should have at least 10 tiems the impedance of the output plugged into it. Guitars like a 1megOhm input. Line level devices rarely have 1 megOhm inputs, so guitars require either a preamp or passive matching device at the least. even a pedal can help with this.
Maybe this can help a couple to not fry their inputs.

Does iSight mic work for garageband?
My internal mic is broken, I was looking for a fast solution and the guy at mac store told me that since I have a iSight camera, I could use my iSight(cuz there's a camera and mic both) for Garageband to record. I went to open my Garageband>Preferences>Audio"MIDI to change the audio setting from Built-in Audi to iSight. I can see iSight when I select Audio Input, but it's ghosted and shows "iSight(not 44.1)"
What does this mean? And can my iSight work as a external mic for my Garageband?
Could someone please advise me?
Thank you.-Prism- wrote:
