Mic/ Headset

I have a Mac Mini, and I recently purchased a mic headset only to find out that it requires me to have two speaker ports but my mini only has one. And it works on my brothers PC because he has the required ports. But I was wondering if there was an adapter or something so I can use the headset on my mini.

Return it, you bought the wrong kind. You bought the old technology. It requires a soundcard socket and a microphone input socket to plug into.
Look at buying a USB interface headset instead. They have a soundcard chip built into their USB plug.
I use the Logitech USB 200 headset without any problems or software to install, just plug the headset into the mini and go talk. You might be able to still find this at Staples or office stores like that. The other higher models are being pushed instead now. All have noise-cancelling microphones built-in and other goodies your current purchase may not have. Add the benefit that over USB there is no hum or noise and your voice will be crystal clear.

    Hi EdgarNaranjo,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your HP 14-d006la Notebook  and having issues with connecting a microphone. Audio-out (headphone)/Audio-in (microphone) jack connects optional powered stereo speakers, headphones, earbuds, a headset, or a television audio cable. Also connects an optional headset microphone. This jack does not support optional microphone-only devices. Be sure that the device cable has a 4-conductor, a connector that supports both audio-out (headphone) and audio-in (microphone). Here is a document on connecting a microphone.
    Hope this helps.

  • Another two usb mic/headset thread

Hi everyone, I have a question that I have almost found the answer to, but I need a little help. I have two logitech 350 usb mic/headsets that I bought (and opened) for podcasting with two people. Now, after 2 hours of fooling around, I got the mics to be recordable in Garageband, but the monitor out is either: not working, working in only 1 headset, or has a noticable delay. I find is very hard to believe that someone out there has not gotten the monitor out along with the mics to work, so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, if you have a good solution, I would love to know how to get this working.
    Thanks!

There is nothing to do you can not choose two usb outputs.
Seeing that you will be sitting next to each other monitoring really shouldn't be to big a issue. You could monitor from two sets of Analog headphones or earbuds by using a 1/8" stereo splitter on your macs audio out.

  • Using External Mic/Headset

I just bought an external microphone/headset for my iMac G5, because the fans are so loud, people talking to me, can't hear me over my fans.
    Well, they didn't work.
Now, the first thing I thought wasn't a flaw in the head set, but my first assumption was a flaw in the iMac. Why? Because I've noticed in the past that apple doesn't do things that are obvious and that would make sence.
Sure enough, the iMac G5 doesn't work with external mics.
Now. My question: Has anyone been able to get a regular external mic to work with decent audio with the iMac G5 without spending any more money that a regular headset from walmart would cost? Or should I return this perfectly working headset because of Apple?

    Hello,
    That is a Line-in port.
The operative word here is "Line"
A "Line" in port expects "Line-Level" audio.
Line-level audio is the level of audio you would find on the RCA jacks on your component stereo system's CD-Player, Tape Deck, etc.
Two devices commonly need pre-amplification. Those are Microphones and Record Players / Turn-Tables.
Neither of those devices provides a line-level audio signal. They both need to be pre-amplified first.
Pre-Amplified computer microphones are getting harder to find. But, they are available.
A pre-amplified microphone will have it's own power source (such as a set of AAA batteries). And, it will amplify the signal prior to sending it to the computer.
Don't make the mistake of purchasing a microphone that claims to be "amplified" and does not contain it's own power source. That is not the same thing. Rather it is a rather loose use of the term Amplified. I've seen lots of so-called "Amplified" Mic's that did not contain any form of booster at all.
Make sure you purchase one that has it's own power source (such as batteries).
    Here is one example:
    http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=24501
Or, if you use a regular Microphone like the one you have, you can purchase a "pre-amplifier". This is simply a small powered signal booster that plugs-in between your computer and the microphone. It will amplify the signal to "line-level" before sending it to the computer.
Unfortunately, pre-amplifiers can be rather expensive for small ones, and rather large for the cheaper ones.
If you are handy with electronics, here's a document on how to build your own pre-amp circuit:
    http://www.epanorama.net/circuits/micamp.html
One external solution around $120 is this simple and compact pre-amp:
    http://www.microphones.com/microphonegroup.cfm?URLID=Preamp-Series
There are several USB and FireWire solutions that are much cheaper.
    Such as:
    http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/imic/
But, they sometimes cause a bit of "latency" in your recording. Simply put, if you were singing along with something or needed your speech to be synchronized, then the USB or FireWire audio method might cause a noticeable delay in your recording.
If the only thing you are recording is your speech, then a bit of a delay in your recording probably would not be as noticeable.
The reason you can use a cheaper Microphone with a PC, is that it actually has both a Line-Level jack and a Microphone specific jack. Older Mac's such as the G3's had both as well. But, the newer Mac's just have the Line-Level jack.
Now, if you just want to use your existing Microphone, you could try using the Griffin iMic to make your current microphone work:
    http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/imic/
    It's about $40.
But, if you are wanting a simple and self-contained solution, then you might just go with a USB microphone.
Just keep in mind that you may have a bit of delay with a USB solution (either USB Mic or USB PreAmp) when you are speaking.
I have not used these, but here is a couple of USB Microphone solutions:

Let me know if you have other questions.
    I hope this helps.

  • Audigy 2 problems with mic headset and Teamsp

What settings and what are they under do I have to change to make Teamspeak work properly with my Logitech Precision PC Gaming Headset and City of Heroes? Everyone wants me to leave Teamspeak because when I go into the channel it creates this massi've noise. Or, when I played with settings to try to fix it they can barely hear me. Everyone was trying to help me with my settings but we were getting no where. I have a Soundblaster Audigy 2 and the latest drivers and programs from SB installed. What needs to be muted, not muted, what needs to selected for mic settings and not. PLEASE HELP! :-)
    Terry

I have a Dell XPS Gen 2. I was using the mic/headphone jacks in the front of the computer. When I switched the mic/headphone to the back of the computer in the soundcard, everyone heard me fine. Go into both your Creative Labs Surround Mixer control panel and make sure you have your mic selected on Record to Mic. I have the following muted in there with the X: Midi Synth, CD Audio, CD-Digitial, and ALSO Microphone. Keep Line-In and Wave umuted. In your XP Sound control panel, the same thing. Also go into advanced Mic settings there and make sure the DB boost is checked. In TS under Settings/Options/Sound Devices I have it set to Wave and then both SB Audigy is selected for input/output. Settings/Options/Sound Input/Output Settings I have Push To Talk selected. I'm sure now that I have it working I can play with it some more to get Voice Activation tweaked to work well, but I'm happy that they can hear me without a giant helicopter sound coming through anymore. :-) Let em know how it goes.

I found this information on Creative KnowledgeBase ..
Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio and Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer feature the Intel High Definition Audio (Intel HD Audio) Front Panel header.
Bad information is that it's not compatible w/ all front panel connection methods.
This header follows the standard 2x5pin Intel HD Audio conform layout. It is not compatible with AC97 or Intel-compatible HD Front Panel Audio.

  • Need help with a mic and headset probl

Ok heres the deal i have an Audigy 2 C400 or at least thats what it say on the creative volume control drop tab at the top. I recently bought one of those mic headset combos seen here http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/pr...3,CONTENTID=00 with the two /8 inch stereo jack the would fit into the sound card. The problem i am having is i only get static through the headphone and the mic doesnt pick up anything. I plugged it in the recomended ports and got the. Then i tryed just the headphone jack in all the other ports and got either no result or just static. the mic wouldnt work period. Any insite to this problem would be much appreciated.

    Genisis_Rain,
The C400 isn't the model of the soundcard. It's only a indicator of the resources range(computer memory) it's using. Assuming you have the original Audigy 2 card. Just to confirm, you have connect the headphone jack plug to the Line_Out jack on the soundcard. Check through the speaker setting application too and make sure the Digital Output Only option hasn't been enable.

  • Best headset with mic to use with macbook pro

    Hello,
I have a headset with a mic that I am using through Skype and other applications to speak to customers.
The mic is connected through a stereo mini plug, going through the headphone input jack on my MacBook Pro.
The mic audio is no longer registering through the audio input, and I can see (hear through recordings) that the only audio coming through when I where that headset is being picked up by the laptop built in mic.
I've done some reseach on line and have a few questions:
    1)  Is there a known issue with mic audio coming through the headphone input?
    2) Is there a known issue with mic audio coming through the headphone input specifically only when using Mountain Lion?
    3) Is it better audio quality to have a headset with mic connected via a USB input rather than the stereo mini input.
    4) Are there any recommendations for mic/headset combos out there or a brand that makes good product compatible with the MacBook Pro?
    Thank you,
    Suzanne

Good heatset mics very nearly dont exist.
If you want quality audio at all, mid-level grade USB mic is the best route.
And the use of headphones seperately.
Best mic sub-200$ is the Zoom H2n
Macbook Air uses a headset jack if you want a headset mic/headphone setup.
the downside being most mics on headsets are ubiquitously bad quality.
The PRO mics for laptops/ computers, most of them plug in via USB, not the headset jack.
SONY ICD-SX712 is a great choice (best "cheap" mic Ive found)

  • My headset loops system audio through mic

I think a few other people have had similar issues to this, but searching through all the discussions is a real pain (especially with a lot unanswered).
So here's the deal: I've been using headsets for audio, such as Logitech UE 300 and SkullCandy FIX. The good news is I can use my headset as a mic, the bad news is the system audio gets looped through and sent as input. Normally this isn't an issue, but when I play games (such as CS:GO, CS:S, TF2 on Steam) and need to talk everyone hears my laptop audio in full. If I'm talking on Skype and something is playing, like a movie or song, they'll hear it as I do.
    So I ask:
    1. Can I override the System Settings to not default to the mic/headset and use the built-in audio instead?
         - Can I change settings to cut off the System Audio from looping?
    2. Is this normal?
    3. Do I need to download different software?
If it's really a problem I could always buy a separate set of headphones that are guaranteed to work, but I'd like to have as few pairs as possible.
Thanks, and thanks ahead of time for your patience.
So far I've tried tinkering with the System settings and the Audio MIDI setup, nothing works

No, none of the headsets have such a feature

  • Alternative External Headset/Mic Plug

Hi all , My Case for my PC has two Jacks for Mic Headset on the top for easy access to plug my heaphones and mic in on the fly.
Is there a place on the SB Audigy 2ZS to plug these to in order to make them function ? They have a standard Jumper style female connector connecting to them that appear to plug directly onto pins on the Card.
Am I doomed to have to leave my Mic plugged in at all time behind this huge PC and my Headphones always stretched to reach the speaker for quick disconnects when necassary ?

  • K8N Neo4 (MS-7125) USB, Mic, S/P Out, and LAN ports all non-functional

I'm hoping someone can give me a hand with this.  I'm not a novice when it comes to motherboards but this particular board is making me feel like it.
Ok, I've got a K8N-Neo4 MS-7125 model.  Athlon64 3700.  I have all the current drivers and ran the liveupdate to make sure.
The LAN port will light up, but the Device manager will not recognize it, nor will the LAN utility.
The board has 4 USB ports.  The top two are non-functional, the bottom two work.
The S\P OUT port has never worked, nor do I know how to engage it or find it on the device manager
The microphone....this one is fun.  Its like the microphone is stuck in a feedback loop.  Whatever comes through my speakers, is heard on the other end by other users.  I am not heard at all, although I can hear myself through my OWN speakers.  Even with the mic unplugged, people still can hear my speakers.  Imagine having your speakers plugged into the mic jack.  The only way to kill the feedback is to actually go into the sound manager and mute the whole mic system.
I can live without the LAN and USB ports, but it would be a HUGE help if someone can help me with the mic and S\P ports!!
    Thanks!!!

Ok, I'll do my best to remember everything
    Athlon64 3700 939socket
    XP Pro Service pack 2
    Rosewill case 400watts
    SonyDVDRW Drive (dual layer)
    Samsung DVD drive
    GEForce 7300 256DDR (PCI Express)
120GB Seagate 7200 RPM Harddrive  (IDE) Partioned two drives
    1x512DDR ram  PC3200 400mhz
As for the flavor of the NEO4 the only other numbers I know of, is on the board it says N1996 right below the processor.  Is that what you need?  Its a PCB V.3 board nvidia Nforce4.
    Speakers are standard cyber acoustic
    Logitech Mic/Headset combo
This particular case allows for hookups for headphones and mic in the front.  The case has jumpers in the back that allow you to gain access from the front (but you probably already know that).  I've always used the front MIC/Headset jack, and I have a splitter in the back for the headphones and that jumper.  In trying to resolve the issue, I tried every jack with the microphone (even the ones that I know are labeled as speakers).  I do get my own voice through MY speakers on the front jack AND the mobo jack.
Hopefully I got you enough info!
    Thanks in advance!!!

  • Microphone headset with MacBook Pro

    Hi,
I recently started playing a game on my Mac that requires a microphone headset to get the most out of playing online. But since there is just one "slot" (I can't remember what it's called) to plug into, and a microphone headset has two plugs, I have a problem. Does anyone know what to do in a situation like this?
    Thank you for your help.

    isopropanol wrote:
He he. Okay, I should have figured that out myself. It was the only possible solution. *But will it work with any game* that requires a microphone headset?
I don't know. I have not tried every game and you have not told us what game you want it to work with. I don't know why a USB mic/headset would not work. They work well for for me but I'm not a big game player. Maybe someone else will comment.

  • Ventrilo on MacBook Pro with Built-In Mic

I recently installed Ventrilo 3.0.1 client and cannot get it to recognize my MacBook Pro's built-in mic. The software is working otherwise, as it connects to the server and I can hear others.
The MacBook Pro Sound control panel is set to built-in mic and the sound check is OK. In Ventrilo, the Sound Input is set to built-in mic and the Mute Sound and Mute Microphone Binds are unchecked. I turned the Amplifiers up but still got nothing.
The Ventrilo site's FAQ and setup guides have no info on the subject, and I can't find this exact problem on any of the previous posts in this discussion forum.
    Thanks...

btw, I have already seen much ado regarding the external mic/headset difficulties people have had regarding non-amplified mics/headsets, and understand how to make that work, though I would like to know which USB headsets some of you have had success with, but I am wondering why the internal microphone wouldn't work.
I have seen some posts claiming that even USB headsets have difficulties under Leopard that they don't have with Tiger.
As Apple saw fit not to provide built-in playthrough from audio mini-plug line in, I have used the 3rd party LineIn software as a work around. Is there something else out there that gets USB headsets and Ventrilo to play nice together?

  • Mic not working in Widows XP

I know this is a long shot but anyone here get the mic to work with Battlefield 2 to do VOIP in the game? I could not get XP to recognize a standard analog mic at all. I then tried a Logitech USB mic/headset and Sound Recorder in Windows picked up the sound from the mic. However, Battlefield 2 is not pickup up the mic. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

According to the tech specs here: http://www.apple.com/imac/specs.html
The iMac has an audio line in. This isn't the same as a mic jack. You need an amplifier to be connected to the line in jack in order to use a mic.
USB is probably the better solution for you, if it's working!
