Mic+Music in Vista32 & Audigy2

Before I upgraded from XP to Vista (32bit), I was able to "DJ" online using both my headset mic and the Audigy2 Z3 Notebook soundcard while playing music at the same time...so, basically, I didn't have to switch channels every time I needed to talk on the mic while playing music in a chat room thru the soundcard.
I know this is a common issue for people, but I've been dealing with NO ANSWERS on this problem since January 2007. What I need to know is if there's something I need to do (and how to do it, in detail) to bring back the functionality of not only the console pgm, but also the old (and more useful) EQ/sound settings so I can use both the mic and the music playback at the same time.
Thank you in advance, and I look forward to your feedback.

thanks... no luck though, i turned the eq for the sound card off. set the qt thing to safe mode, updated the drivers for sound card, unistalled and reinstalled itunes, updated ipod. still nothing. one thing that doesnt make any sense is that the cds play fine. i can copy songs onto the ipod but i can play any of them... im stumped:(

  • Self recording live music

    Hi,
I have recorded musical imovie's of myself through the internal camera and mic.
I play uke and some singing.
Is there a way/s to improve on sound quality?
I usually hit capture, then start a Garageband track I made, for accompaniment (I recently downloaded BandinaBox for Macintel so I will use that too) and that's it.
Sometimes I play amplified uke, which helps bring out the fullness of tone to the recording.
I play with volumes til I get best effect, then go for it.
I imagine there are all kinds of set ups, but is there any suggestions for upgrading the sound?

sorry to tell you: I'm no specialist in mics/music recording.
    allthough..
the built-in mic of a Mac is meant for.. iChat.
so, ANY mic is better than that.
I remember this is a frequent topic on this board, perhaps 'microphone suggestion recommendation etc' as keywords in the Forum Help spits out some threads..
perhaps the guys&girls in the Garageband section of this board are better qualified to answer..
for mixing diff. audio sources, I would suggest the investment into some simple mixer. and to avoid speak-over/feedback, wear some headphones..

  • Need Advice on Choosing a Soundc

    Hi.
I need some advice on buying a Li've 5. or Audigy2 ZS soundcard.
I am currently using SoundMax onboard as my sound provider, but I am planning to upgrade to either a Soundblaster Li've 5. or the Audigy2 ZS. However, I am unsure as to which one to go for.
Is there a big difference between the 2 soundcards taking in consideration that I only use sound for playing games, and listening to music. The Audigy2 ZS is much more expensi've and if there are no real difference between the two cards, from my perspecti've, I would rather go for the Li've 5. card.
    Your advice will be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Raven

Either one will be better than that soundmax. It sounds kinda like you already made up your mind.
    here are some diffs:
The Li've card is good for you if you want high quality surround sound in your music and games (assuming you have the speakers to take advantage) it does great with dolby digital 5. it is overall not a bad card for what you are looking to do with it.
The Audigy 2 ZS has THX certification, EAX , Dolby Digital 5., 6., and 7. capabilities, it also has bass boost . In other words this is a Much more powerful card than the Li've. It will give you GREAT Sound in Movies and a better experience in games than the 5. li've.
To sum up. If you just want good sourround sound in games and music go with the LIVE card. If you want to take your gaming and Movie experience to a Higher level and have all of the mind blowing ultra realistic sound your games can giv you, then go with Audigy 2 ZS.
PLEASE NOTE IT WONT MATTER WHAT SOUND CARD YOU GET IF YOU DONT HAVE THE SPEAKER SYSTEM TO BACK IT UP. Your audio will still suck.
This is just a comarison between these 2 cards, the best card you can get right now is the Audigy 4 and get a 7. surround sound speaker system.

I just have just downloaded Mountain lion and I wanted to listen to music on my computer screen with my HDMI cable plug into my back of my screen and I wanted to talk to dictation on my regular standard iPhone headphone and I was wondering if it's all possible change your settings Mac Mini to set it so you can listen to those both like your headphones and use the mic in your headphones and there's no settings that would change in the Mac Mini so do there is a flaw in this system or I am just really really really really dumb.

You computer is probably perfectly repairable, but if you want a new one anyway, it is perfectly possible to transfer the data from the faulty one.
But it would be a mistake to simply put the old HD in the new computer.
    These are the steps:
Remove Hard drive from faulty computer. (very easy on Unibody MBPs, do-able but not so easy on older MBPs)
Put it in a cheap enclosure
    Connect it the new computer
    Boot up new computer.
If the new computer has never been run before the Setup Assistant will ask if you want to import your apps, data, settings etc from either another mac, another HD connected to the Mac or a Time Machine back up.
Obviously chose the second option (another HD connected to this Mac) and follow prompts.
If the new computer has already been run (so Setup Assistant doesn't run when you boot it up), you will need to use Migration Assistant...or run the installer again so that Setup Assistant runs again.

  • My mic is not working with my soundblaster digital music LX ex-soundc

Hope its a easy problem but make me mad that I have a wonderfull sound from my digtal music XL soundcard but I am unable to use my microphone which is together with my web cam. I try seperate one but still I couldnt get any sound. I have DELL Inspiron 6400 notebook and XP home ed. I made all of the updates succesfully. Please someone help me even if its not possible with this sound card.Regards

Could be a few issues here.
. have you selected mic in through the mixer - YES (Creative Surround Mixer)
    2. whats happening with the TV wonder internal connection - Same as CD-ROM internal cable. Except for the TV it does into AUX on the SoundBlater. Have removed it now to test, but no difference. between dri've and SoundBlaster.
    3. have you disabled onboard sound in bios - YES Disabled at BIOS level

I currently use a usb headset and the sound is a bit naff as i have no control over bass & treble. The only advantage of this is convinience.

. There is no analog I/O pins available on Audigy 2. Only way to get it working the way you want is to split those I/Os found from back of the card. Here is a project running solving this matter, so you may want to follow it's progress.
There are also couple threads talking 'bout this matter of yours.
    2. You can control treble and bass from software you're using or if you play games (only) then from
    - Creative Surround Mixer
    - CTPanel (can be found on driver installations)
    - Control Panel: Sounds And Multimedia properties: Audio tab --> Play Control : Volume slider: Advenced
All these above affects sound Globally.

  • X-Fi Extreme Music Mic Problems - Please help

Hi all,?i have just purchased an OEM X-Fi extreme Music crad, i'm having major problems getting the mic to work, i cannot find anywhere on the console to switch between mic input or digital i/o, the audio console is very basic & gives me no flashy options like mixers etc. The card came with no drivers & the creative ones from the website only give me a very basic console setup. The mic will not work at all & as i use voip every day it's driving me nuts, is there more software i can download to get full control of the i/o port?I really love the sound quality of this card & i don't want to go back to my Audigy card just so i can use the mic!?Thansk in advance for any help you can give me, i've spent hours searching the net without success.

  • Recording using mic with musical accompaniment and no latency

I am using GarageBand '08 to try and record a podcast. I have created music, and am trying to talk over it and hear it all through headphones. Unfortunately, there is an unacceptable level of latency in the headphone jack this way (my mic is plugged into the mic/line in, my headphones are plugged into the line out). I have tried all the optimization settings to no avail. I have turned off "echo" and "reverb" in the live instrument settings. Where else do I turn? What do I do?

Yes, GB does have latency, and sometimes it's impossible to get rid of it. I usually record without monitoring and cover only one ear with the headphones, so I can hear myself but also the other tracks.

  • Can I listen to the what the mic is hearing at the same time as listening to music

Hey guys I'm sure this has been asked before, but couldn't find it.
I want to listen to music or game volume over my shure in ear monitors... they have a volume control and built in mic so on my iphone I have an app called "awareness" that allows me to listen to tunes as well as monitor the mic.
That's what I want to do with my macbook air.
Seems simple but I can't find an app or make this work somehow.
I want to be able to talk to people without pulling out earbuds...
    Thanks!

The Mac disables this by default, to prevent feedback when using the computer speakers. There are a couple of ways to do it. I think this is the simplest way:
    Open Garageband.
Create a New Song, selecting the "Voice" option from the intial screen. Save the song wherever you like on your hard drive.
Once the new song is open change the "Monitor" option in the bottom left of the screen to "On" or "On (No Feedback Protection)". Make sure your headphones are in! Otherwise you will probably get crazy feedback.

  • Music transmitting through built-in mic, despite being played through my headphones.

Im attempting to use my built in microphone over Skype, and it's transmitting the music I'm playing despite the fact that I'm playing it into my headphones. It's not a question of the volume the music is at, it appears to be directly transmitting the audio out. Can someone explain how I stop this ridiculous malfunction?

No sorry, that sounds very odd, if not near impossible.
How high have you got your input volume on the mic?
They are very sensitive. I can have a conversation on skype while I'm 8 meters away from my MBP and not have to raise my voice or repeat myself.

  • How to play stereo mix music and sing in my mic at the same time?

Hi guys, need help regarding Realtek HD audio driver
I want to play stereo mix music and sing in my mic at the same time.... not for recording purposes but in chatroom let's say.
    I'm using XP...Toshiba Satellite S4747 laptop
In the Realtek software under " Realtek HD audio input" I have mic and stereo mix both.... but I can only select one at a time.....
    Any solutions plzzz thxxxx
On a different note.... a friend of mine whose using one non-Toshiba laptop with win XP has an older version of the Realtek audio driver and can select both mic and stereo mix at the same time... I downloaded that version into my laptop but I still can only select one at a time....

Check the audio settings in Windows and dont forget in Realtek HD audio manager. You can find it in control panel.
I think your microphone is set to mute so check this.

  • Audio (music from camera mic is not matching}

    Hi All
I have the Sony dsr 300a I record music from a party on the my camera mic ch1 .Than I got the song from my Itunes libary same song and lenght . I laying the song on track A2 A3 in fcp having A1 camera mic audio it snyns up for a few secs than goes out of sny or flows out from the camera mic audio that was comming from the party/dj .I do bring in from Itunes in at 48k ??

Why would you expect to remain in sync? Unless the music at the party was played back with a timecode-driven device, and then you used that same music cue, WITH TIME CODE, to bring into your show, you'll never have total sync.
Not to mention that I'll bet you don't have sync rights to use the song...

  • "Using the harmonic analyser to determine the musical note of sound input from a mic and soundcard"

"Hi there, I am currently trying to extract what musical note is being sung via a mic plugged into my soundcard and using the harmonic analyser VI, I am experiencing problems however, as the fundamental frequency output does not always match the note being sung. Does anyone have any ideas why this may be? I initally thought it may be due to aliasing occurring but this is compensated for in harmonic analyser VI! If anyone has any suggestions I would be extremley grateful. Thanks

Rob Cole is right, your question is one that has a lot of potential
    answers.
Here are a couple of notes / thoughts:
A-weighting probabably won't help much for your particular app, as it
sounds like your are more interested in tone detection, rather than
modeling how a human would hear or compliance with a standard.
Probably the most likely reason you are seeing the fundamental frequency
vary is that you are measuring a real-world signal that is a human voice.
Even though your singer may be singing a constant note, the frequency
content will vary somewhat--your singer is an imperfect boilogical
system. (Nothing against your singer in particular--no signer is
perfect!) Also, as Rob Cole pointed out, your singer's note isn't a pure
tone at all, but a collection of harmonics that you perceive as a note.
Regarding aliasing, it's important not to confuse any algorithmic
compensation (applied after a signal has been sampled) with true alias
protection. If you are using a sound card, it likely doesn't have
hardware-based alias protection. The only way to ensure that aliases
don't intrude on the frequency span of interest is to apply a hardware
filter prior to sampling your signal. Such filters can be added to the
front end of a DAQ board or come built-in with DSA hardware such as the
NI 4472. The software alias-related functionality of the Harmonic
Analyzer VI's simply excludes signal content that exceeds the Nyquist
    rate in the distortion calculation.
I'm not sure specifically which VI you are referring to, but the SINAD
and Harmonic Distortion Analyzer VIs from the waveform analysis palette
use a tone detection algorithm to find the fundamental which is the same
as the one found in the Extract Single Tone Information VI. All of these
VIs include an advanced search input where you can specify a guess for
the frequency of interest and a range (as a percent of the sampling
frequency). You might try to narrow the search from the "try everything"
mode (-1 in the approx freq.) to something with less span around the
    expected freq range.
Take a look at the power spectrum of your signal and verify that you see
a distinct, time-invarient peak where you expect your fundamental. My
guess is that you don't. I've whistled into a mic enough to know.
A final suggestion is to increase the duration (# of samples) acquired in
your acquisition. When you do so, you increase the duration of the signal
window that you analyze. If your signal shows slight frequency variation
over a given period of time, they can tend to average out with increased
duration of the signal that you analyze.
    Hope this helps!

  • Best mic for recording live music with video ipod?

i believe there are mics for recording sound, and believe there are even some which are made for great sound quality such as live music.
if so, which one is the best?
    thanks.

This is sort of like asking what is the best motorized vehicle.
There are different mikes for different purposes, instruments, etc. I'd get on Google and look for recording websites.
Myself, I like various Neumann's for certain applications.
