Mic Output Iss

I'm currently using an Audigy 2 ZS on Vista Business 64-bit. Everything that I say into the microphone comes out of the speakers. I have tried turning off line in and other settings. I tried changing bit rates as if that would have any difference anyway. I've even tried running the mic through line in or other inputs.
I'm currently using a 5. Creative sound system so I didn't have to do anything special with the three sound inputs. Why am I able to hear myself talk? Can this be fixed?

Bump.
According to the Creative AWE64 documentation:

The digital audio signals from the SPDIF Out jack contain audio output from the EMU8000 wavetable chip mixed with digital voice playback if the playback is in 6-bit stereo mode, 44. kHz CD quality. If you want to listen to WaveSynth/WG through the SPDIF Out jack, you must enable the ?Enable WaveSynth to play at CD quality? feature. To do so:
. Start Creative WaveSynth-Waveguide. The WaveSynth/WG properties sheet appears, displaying the Profile tab.
2. Click the Performance Settings button.
3. In the Settings dialog box, select the Enable WaveSynth To Play At CD Quality check box and click the OK button.
4. In the WaveSynth/WG properties sheet, click the Quit button to close it.

Now I am running Windows XP and it seems that the WaveSynth software is incompatable with this OS (not that I've ever used it before or really know what it is). Is there another way to force the card to output all sounds at 6-bit stereo 44.KHz?

• Mic output very

Using a Sound Blaster X-fi (SB0790), I have very low Mic output. Using Ventrilo, when I try to increase the output volume a pop-up says to use the " +20db Boost" but looking in the "Sounds and Audio Devices" I do not see a way to do that, the "Advanced" setup for the mic is gryed ou.
Bottom line, its not my Mic tahts the problem, so how I get the Mic output to be stronger so that Im heard on Ventilo (or any other chat program).
Whats with this card?
Tnanks,

The problem with a noisy mike isn't going to be in the software. It is a hardware problem. Possibly the wiring, grounding, shielding, cross-talk from other wires picking up interference.

• IPad Mic Output

Is there an app for Mic Output to speaker on iPad?
I have to give a speech to a small size audience and would like to use external mic and wireless speaker with iPad instead of MacBook Air. I could not find any ans here or on Goolgle.
Thanks.

To clarify , Garageband has an input volume meter with a needle that goes in the red if it's too loud.
I tested the ipad against the ipodtouch and I got a much stronger signal from the ipodtouch. It went into the red if I got loud. The ipad will not go into the red no matter how much I yell.
It definitely has a lower input level then the ipodtouch.

• Low mic output, can't figure it out at all!

Recently, I tried to find a portable solution just for fun. In the studio, we have a proper mixing desk, amps, pre-amps and the lot. But I'm going away for a few months and I needed to be able to work on the go… That said…
I got myself some candy. At first I thought it would be cheap… I was wrong.
It's costing me because I keep buying new things to try and fix the issue!
I got a nice shure condensor mic and the Behringer Tube Ultragain pre-amp.
To input the sound into the MacBook Pro, I also got Behringer Firewire FCA202.
For those not familiar with these, the FCA202 has 2 ins / 2 outs, 1/4 inch, no pre-amp. The Tube Ultragain offers up to 60dB of gain, +48 V, 20dB PAD, a phase reverse and limiter.
First observation is how the Tube Ultragain indicates proper volume, in fact, when all knobs are all the way up, a simple hush in the mic send the volume indicator to clip. Still, nothing through Logic. I can see a bar, but barely a sound.
I tried to plug my headphones in the back of the Tube Uktragain and it's quite loud. So why won't it work?
Then, I decided it was the Tube Ultragain. I thought I'd get extra gain by buying another audio interface that could be portable. I chose the Line6 Toneport X1. I plug the XLR from the mic to the XLR input of the Tube Ultragain, crank up all the knobs. I output to the Line 6 through the mic input, cranking the gain as well. Still nothing.
I decided to get a different mic. I got the ribbon Superlux R102. I read great reviews. Any setup combination with any of my devices resulted still in very very very very low output.
Considering that I have a few mics, what should I get that will work or what am I doing wrong with what I've got?
The thing is, all these devices work great with guitars. It all points to not enough juice for the mics but seriously, shouldn't the Tube Ultragain do the trick?
Help???

I just have just downloaded Mountain lion and I wanted to listen to music on my computer screen with my HDMI cable plug into my back of my screen and I wanted to talk to dictation on my regular standard iPhone headphone and I was wondering if it's all possible change your settings Mac Mini to set it so you can listen to those both like your headphones and use the mic in your headphones and there's no settings that would change in the Mac Mini so do there is a flaw in this system or I am just really really really really dumb.

You computer is probably perfectly repairable, but if you want a new one anyway, it is perfectly possible to transfer the data from the faulty one.
But it would be a mistake to simply put the old HD in the new computer.
These are the steps:
Remove Hard drive from faulty computer. (very easy on Unibody MBPs, do-able but not so easy on older MBPs)
Put it in a cheap enclosure
Connect it the new computer
Boot up new computer.
If the new computer has never been run before the Setup Assistant will ask if you want to import your apps, data, settings etc from either another mac, another HD connected to the Mac or a Time Machine back up.
Obviously chose the second option (another HD connected to this Mac) and follow prompts.
If the new computer has already been run (so Setup Assistant doesn't run when you boot it up), you will need to use Migration Assistant...or run the installer again so that Setup Assistant runs again.

• Flatten two audio cords (mic output) into an Apple port.

Anyone know of an adapter where you can stick the two wires from standard headsets into one side, and plug it into an apple input/output port (designed for "iPhone Headset"
Thanks in advance.

Yes, I've seen those, but I was asking simply of curiosity because it would just be cooler to connect it right through the jack. Also, I just realized, a USB adapter wouldn't help iPhone, iPad, and iPod users, as there is not a standard USB port. But thanks.

• Mic Output Won't W

Hi,
? I've been using my X-Fi Xtreme Gamer sound card for over a year. I have really enjoyed the amazing quality and find my $00-+ well worth it.
?I have never mistreated, overused, or incorrectly plugged in my sound card. Just yesterday I was playing a computer game with my friends, and all of the sudden they stopped responding to me. I found out something was wrong with my mic, when I went to record my voice with a program and heard nothing. I have tried other mics on my computer and they don't work. I know the problem is not my mic (the wire and everything is fine anyways).
I can hear sound perfectly normal. Yet I can't record, and my friends can't hear me. They say all they hear is an echo and static. I've played with the settings, restarted, installed new drivers, and reinserting my sound card into it's slot, and even made sure that connector was plugged in properly.
Any suggestions, other than "did you unmute your mic?" would be greatly appreciated. Also, I'm trying to install a new codec, my friend suggested. But I don't think this will work.

I spent the best part of 3 days with my original XFi, uninstaling/instaling many many times. I even deleted the complete harddri've and did a fresh instal which boots the PC back to it's factory state.Don't waste anymore time with it. Exchange it for another one.Good luck, and keep me posted.

• AWE64 Gold SPDIF Output Iss

Hello All,
I've encountered an issue with the SPDIF output from my AWE64 Gold under Windows XP in that not all sounds created through the digital wave device are being received by my digital processor.
Initial troubleshooting has shown that the AWE's DSP doesn't upconvert low bitrate samples. My digital processor can handle PCM/6bit/44KHz and PCM/6bit/48KHz, but anything less seems to fail.
Has anyone else seen this issue? Is there a way to force Windows XP to always output in PCM/6bit/44KHz?

• How do I use one audio jack as input and one as output?

On my MacBook Pro, if I get a USB-headphone connector (to add another audio port), will I be able to set one audio port as input and the other as output? To use the port coming out of the USB jack as a headphone jack, and plug a mic/output device into the computer's port?
I'm thinking about buying a "Sabrent USB External Stereo Sound Adapter". I have a preamp that is NOT an interface, and I want to be able to monitor what I'm doing so I can multitrack. But my MacBook only having one audio 1/8 inch jack makes it so I have to choose either input OR output...I'm hoping if I add an extra port via USB I'll be able to have one of each.
Thank you!

Yes, either way round. In System Preferences>Sound you can set the input and output ports separately.
Roger, the System setting have -Nothing- to do with the question being asked. Do you use Logic Pro audio software? If you did you would know Logic has it's own audio settings that run independently from the System audio. There's also the fact that Maverick has problems with "some" older USB 2.0 audio hardware. Basically, this is not a slam-dunk, that's why I suggested asking someone if they've used this combination before. Although... the USB audio device is cheap ($10) it might be worth it to try. Still.............**
** I question the wisdom of using cheap audio hardware on a computer that cost $1000+, software that costs $200 and then using the internal audio chip ($2) and an external monitoring device that costs $10. Defeats the whole purpose of using professional audio software.

• Mic delay when answering phone (4S)

When I answer my new iPhone 4S, there appears to be a delay during which the mic output is muted. I need to wait approx 2 seconds before speaking when I answer the phone, otherwise the other party cannot hear me. I have already received a replacement unit from my local Apple Store and both phones exhibit the same behavior.
Guessing this is a problem easily solved with a software update. Apple, please help!!!

Anyone who agrees this is not a hardware problem but likely a software issue? Could it also have something to do with the proximity sensor activating the mic based on the phone's position near your head? Maybe the sensor determines whether the mic is active based on your proximity to the phone when not using speakerphone. For those of us who start saying "hello" as we're raising the phone to our heads, that could be the issue.............?
Either way, easily fixed with a software tweak.

• Fat4lity HS-1000 MIC crackling in xp64

Hey,
im having a problem with the HS-1000. Whenever I use voice coms or try to record sounds I get this crackling on the background of the mic output. It actually even happens when I have the mic turned off and just try to record silence. Im using windows xp-64 professional with the latest service pack.
I have tried the headset on my other computer and it works fine. Also tried it on this computer on my second OS (Vista 32bit) and it worked fine. I have downloaded and installed the latest drivers and firmware. What could be causing this ?

I have investigated this further and when recording with the mic off, I can see a pulse type wave on the recording screen every second or so. Or actually 3 different pulses coming in the exact same order periodically.

• Audio/mic troubles, Please Read

Ok well I just purchased the 915p mobo for lga pent 4 slot. I'm having some trouble's with the audio driver's. My mic is very low I have the newst driver I do believe (CMI9880Ch70). So I know it is posible to boost the mic output but it is beyond me. Any suggestion you might have or answer would be great. Thanks

Hmm I dont seem to find this feature anywere and the cmi website is useless. Oh well bad choise for msi togo with on the onboard sound.. cheapest isnt always best

• Hard wiring a lapel mic?

I have been reading your threads and I have some low end Nady lapel wireless mics. I can't afford new mics yet, but I am tired of taking dropouts and want to hard wire the mics to my camera. I would like to run a 1/8 inch mono phone plug (female) to an XLR connector (male). What would be the best way to wire a two pin connector into the 3 pin XLR and would this even work?

While I realize this is an off-topic question, I may be able to offer a bit of help.
Essentially there are two types of mics; dynamic and condenser. Dynamic mics do not require external power but condenser mics do. Most lav style mics are condenser mics, and most lav type mics used in a wireless system (even the low end systems such as Nady) obtain power for the mic from the transmitter's battery.
If your Nady system does indeed use a condenser mic, you'll need to make sure you can provide power to the mic. Most professional and better prosumer cameras will provide phantom power for using condenser mics. But if your camera doesn't, you'll need to take that into consideration.
As for the connections, if the existing mic on the wireless system only has two conductors, it generally means it is a unbalanced mic. Most audio inputs that are XLR (three conductor) are for inputting balanced mic signals. If that's you're case, you'll need a transformer to convert the unbalanced mic output to feed the balanced mic level input on your camera.
Taking all that into consideration, I'd recommend buying a good used, wired lav mic to fore-go all of the adaption you'd need to make it work.
FWIW, the normal, balanced audio XLR pin configuration is:
PIN 1: SHIELD
PIN 2: POSITIVE
PIN 3: NEGATIVE

• Saving data to external hard drive and which camera to buy?

Hi everyone! I'm getting started with my editing and shooting in the next few days and I had a couple questions.
1. If I want to save all my date to an external hard drive, so that it wont take up space on my MacBook Pro, how do I change the pathing so it'll save on the external and not the Macbook.
2. I have 1000 to spend on a camera. I know a 3CCD, mini-dv with an external mic output is best, so what's a good camera considering? The Canon XL2, GL2...? If anyone has any suggestions, let me know!
Thank you so much, looking forward to contributing to this community!
-Ro

I looked on eBay and saw that you can get a used GL2 for under $1000. I have a GL1 and like it very much. I capture to a second internal HD so I don't have any connection problems. With a MBP I recommend an external drive connected by Firewire as you are planning.
I see on this forum some people have had trouble with Canon cameras on a Firewire port shared with other devices. As a test I tried connecting my GL1 to my external backup drive through a second Firewire connector (I believe that's called daisy chaining) and I had no problem with FCE recognizing my camera by switching to the "Basic" Easy Set Up setting.
In the System Settings you can set where you want to save your files.
