Mic stopped working

Two days ago everything was working fine with my microphone and just now I opened Teamspeak and I'm muted by default - which is TS's way of saying that my mic doesn't work anymore. I have no idea what happened. It's not muted in alsamixer, the hardware itself is plugged in and should work (I get my usual low volume echo through the headset when I am too close to the mic). Any ideas?

I had the same problem a few months ago.

alsamixer dose not actually show whether the the (capture) mic is muted or not. Luckery I still had kde(mod) installed so was able to unmute it with kmixer.
Edit: for typo.

  • Satellite L300-2CL - built in mic stopped working

    Hello
When I bought this computer (sep-09) everything was working fine. Then in march (I hade it idle for awhile), my built in mic stopped working.
Everything eles is working fina, and I have scanned the web for solutions, and tried to install new drivers, unistall them, boots everything possible, disabel and rebooting, but at most I just get a static sound from my test recordings.
I am using win 7 home pre, but the issues started when I was using Vista. Now I am out of ideas, and my friends on Skype grows tired of not hearing me.
Is there anything I can do to get the mic work, or should I just buy a headset?
    Greatful for help
    Hugo

    Hi
Sounds a little bit like an mic hardware issue but you should also check the internal mic settings in control panel -> sound.
There you will see the Recording tab.
Here you should mark the internal mic and should check the properties.
Set all volume controllers to max.
Choose internal mic as standard device.
In Playback tab choose speakers -> properties.
There you will see the level tab. Here you should set the microphone to 100 and should check if its not disabled too.

  • Wine makes mic stop working.

A bit of a niche problem. But my mic stops working in linux apps when my wine game application is started. Closing the wine application makes the mic work again.
It's an inboard mic. I don't use the sound from the wine application so I don't need to preserve that functionallity. I just want my linux apps working.
My music programs work. (Output is fine just not input). And I couldn't see anything relevant in the wine configuration. If you need any more info just ask.
Tried in mumble skype teamspeak. It's all the same. Thanks.

  • IPhone 5 mic stopped working

I got my iPhone 11.01 (2 days ago GTM +1) and 12.11 lately 5pm the mic stopped working.
It works when i record movie, and when using siri. But it does not work when i am trying to record voice, or trying to call someone.
    Please help me

I had the same issue. I noticed people couldn't hear me when I called them over the phone all of a sudden one night. So I tested the microphone using the voice memo app to see if it was a hardware issue vs a carrier issue. Looks to be a hardware issue. HOWEVER, on incoming calls, the microphone seems to work fine. And after using another phone to call myself to test, my next outgoing call was fine!  I think I might still run by the Apple Store and have someone look at it. Here's a video of the microphone not working even though it works fine again now.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8iduofHMAk

  • Internal mic stopped working today, please help! C660 1F1

    Hey guys,
My laptop is a Satellite C660 1F1, and it runs Windows 7, 64bit version.
This afternoon, my internal mic stopped working. It was just fine this morning. Yet I can still hear people on Skype perfectly.
I've checked all my settings, and according to them, everything is just fine. But it isn't. The little green bar that shows received sound doesn't move at all. It only moves a tiny bit when I tap the mic with my finger.
I've reinstalled drivers, I have my settings adjusted for maximum mic usage, but it's just not working.
I don't know what else to do, and this mic is the only way I can contact my family right now. Someone, please help me!

  • Realtek Mic stopped working Please Help.

I'm on a Toshiba NB205-N325BN, Windows 7 Home Premium, Intel Atom processor N280 o 1.66GHz, 512KB L2 Cache, 667MHz FSB Mobile Intel® 945GSE Express Chipset. Audio Driver is  a Realtek High Definition Audio driver version 6.0.1.5904
My internal mic stopped working. I'm not sure how long it hasn't been since I don't use it all the time, but when I went to use skype last night I found that the mic wouldn't work with anything even the sound recorder program in the accessories folder. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver, but to no success. I figured I give this forum ago to see if any one could help otherwise I'll have to call the Toshiba support line or do a clean install of windows (which I do not want to do at this time.)

I actually got in contact with Realtek's support via e-mail, and they sent me a program to install that will let them check their devices that are on the machine. After I ran the scan this is the conversation that we had:
Realtek: "We found you had plugged a external mic to microphone jack. Have you tried to unplug external mic and then check the built in mic ?"
Me: "I don't own an external mic, but I did plug in my headphones into the mic port by accident recently maybe that was it? I don't have anything plugged in right now and it's not working."
Realtek: "Please try to dump audio info again(run the scan again) during recording interanl mic sound."
After I ran the scan again they sent me these instructions, and I'm kind of confused on what he means (I think the support is in Asia somewhere and they are translating each message at a time.)
Realtek: "We tried to check it with TOSHIBA. Your machine supports audio prower download feature after audio idle status. You can try to turn off this function on the Power Manager Page of Realtek HD Audio Manageer. Or you can try to plug headphone jack to keep audio power up state .
Can anyone help me understand that last part? I went to the Audio Manager and I didn't see a Power Manager page anywhere! Does "Or you can try to plug headphone jack to keep audio power up state." Mean that it might start working if I try to use it with headphones?

  • Mic stopped working after upgrading RAM from 2G to 8G.

Upgraded my RAM to 8G, mic stopped working. Pulled 2 sticks(4Gb), works. Pushed 2 sticks, broken...

Apparently I'm not the only one?
Seems like a pretty silly problem. Having a TOM address above 4Gb blow the driver's mind?

: No, you're not the only one. As you can see <a rel="nofollow" href="http://forums.creative.com/t5/Windows-7/Audigy-2-ZS-with-Windows-7-64-Bit-and-more-than-4GB-of-RAM/td-p/53795;jsessionid=A339FB657638D20C9FF346FC283A37]here[/url].

    I assume this is the add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/deskcut/
Which part isn't working: the item doesn't appear on the context menu, or no shortcut is created? If it doesn't appear, it might not be enabled. If the shortcut isn't created, there could be a problem with the path to the Desktop.
    Try here:
orange Firefox button ''or'' classic Tools menu > Add-ons
Click Extensions and find deskCut. If it is disabled (grayed out), click Enable. If it is enabled, click Options, then Path and try changing it to a different folder, and then changing it back to your desired folder. Any luck?

  • Linksys CIT400 mic stopped working

Just yesterday with these new updates in Skype (I presume that's what caused it), the mic on my Linksys CIT400 phone stopped working. It was working flawlessly up until then, then it just wasn't working anymore.
To make it more weird, it's not just skype, it doesn't work on landline connection either. Now I did think its a hardware issue, but honestly, mics don't just stop working like a flick of a switch. Especially as you can hear clicks when you tap on the phone. Googled the problem, and it seems it corresponds to phone being basically stuck in mute mode. But I try to make a call, and turn mute on and off, and it still isnt passing sound along. My only conlusion is that with the latest Skype update - the voice isn't carried through for whatever reason.
BTW, I did try to reset the device and update software, but none of that helped (says I have the latest version of the software). So please if you have any ideas or solutions to this, let me know.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

First, I wish to thank you for your reply and the suggested answers. Sadly, I've tried them and none worked. I was really hoping that updated sound drivers will resolve the problem, but no luck. This is just the tip of the iceberg of some 100 changes, updates, resets I've done in past 10 days trying to resolve this problem.
Frankly, I'm very tired and disappointed with Skype at the moment. When you have 2 completely separate devices like I do and they both exhibit the same behavior at the same time, like mine do, there's only 1 thing to pinpoint it to and that is the 1 thing they share in common, which is Skype. I've been a loyal customer of Skype for probably a decade now. Having active subscriptions, buying Skype products, Skype out credits etc. I tip the hat to their support which spent over 2 hours with me on Sunday trying to troubleshoot my problems, even gave them Remote access to my PC so they can try to instal and change any setting they want, but no luck...
It's obvious the problem is deeper and that Skype changed the way it processes or picks up sound, and that's what is causing the issue on multiple devices like mine. I have no problem with that, or progress in general, but if you do that, then WARN the customers, say "hey, your device might stop working". And last but not least, leave them an option to use a previous, FUNCTIONING version of Skype, not the new and obviously buggy one.
I am very, very disappointed in this behavior, it's no wonder people are switching to other apps and for the first time in last 10 years, if I don't manage to solve this problem out, I will be looking into them as well.
Once again, thank you for your reply and if you or anyone has another suggestion, while Skype tech team is working on analyzing logs in my calls, I am more than willing to try them out.  But after 2 weeks of being unable to use the product I'm actively paying for, my patience is nearing the end.
Still,  I'll try to stay positive and keep my fingers crossed that a temporary solution comes up
    Grateful in advance,
    Milan

  • In-line remote & mic stopped working after software update!

Hi guys. I don't know the proper name for it but you know the headphone jack on unibody MBPs is compatible with the iPhone headphones, which have remote and mic. You can make calls and control iTunes.
Shortly after the latest update which give you the App Store, the function has stopped working all together! Does anyone else have the same problem or am I an isolated case?

Try resetting the PRAM. Info here:

  • Imac's Sound and Mic stopped working!

Last night my Imac's sound stopped working. Internal speakers don't work, plugging in external speakers don't work. I thought this was just a hardware problem, but my internal mic also doesn't work, which is on the other side of the computer....
I've rebooted many times, cleared the pram, checked my preferences, played with the audio midi controls, plugged and unplugged the cord in the line out and did everything besides dance around the mac singing.
Any suggestions on how or why this would just stop working? It has to be something i'm missing, some setting.
I've downloaded Line In, didnt do anything. I downloaded Sunflower, didn't do anything.
The only thing I can think of is I just loaded Parallels and Win XP, but I just uninstalled it and still no solution.
    Help please!!

ok let me help you with this process, go to the system preferences in your OSX go to the icon Sound click on it internal volume should be all the way up or mid high up Output volume either all the way up or mid way up thats in the input tab on the top. Now the output tab should the balance should be in the middle and output volume should be mid or all the way up . If that is not the case then there could be a hardware problem which I doubt because when the computer is off it creates a connection from line in to line out.

  • Why has my internal mic stopped working?

Hi. The internal mic in my MacbookPro stopped working suddenly. When I go to system preferences>sound, and I speak, the bars on the built in internal mic move, but the person on the other end does not hear me. I plugged in headphones with mic and tried to use Skype but still they could not hear me. Please, help!!! Txs

  • Macbook Pro mic stopped working

Yes I know there are a ton of threads on this subject. None of them have a solution for my problem. All of them state the obvious. Yes, I have tried everything.
I have been using the iPhone headset as a headset on my macbok for 6 months now. Worked great until the last firmware update when it stopped working.
I can see the input levels in the control panel register sound coming from my mic but I can't hear anything... and no it is not muted. I hear everything else through the headset fine... just not sound from the mic and noone else can hear me in ventrillo, skype, ichat etc etc.
    very frustrated now...

Please tell us what version of Mac OS X you have. The details of trouble shooting depend on that.
Assuming OS 10.8 or 10.9, go to Apple Menu / About This Mac / More Info / System Report. When that pane opens, under hardware in the left, select USB.
When you do that the info on the right side is the USB Device Tree. Look through that info and see if "Built-in iSight" is listed.
