Micro SDCard unreadable .rem files in Q10

Hi:
This is the last try of this new Q10 phone, my 5th Blackberry. If I cannot solve this problem, I'm changing to a Samsung early next week.
I cannot follow any instructions on how to download multimedia files from my MicroSD Card into the Q10 from the device since it doesn't provide any screens to do so. The help indicates that you will be prompted when the SD card is inserted, and I am not provided with any prompts.
I can see the files on Blackberry link under Blackberry folder but they won't be downloaded even after saving them to the Q10.
Can anyone help me with this Micro SDCard??
Link is not easy to manage. E-mail account names appear differently on the Q10 Hub than when created in the Settings. The calendar is a black background that cannot be changed and I cannot view my appointments/meetings at glance easily. This thing of having all the screens in black is very annoying!
Carole

You have some misconceptions here.
1. Where did these .rem files come from? If those .rem files are from a previous BlackBerry device the are encrypted FROM that previous device, and absolutely cannot be opened on another BlackBerry or any device. Please explain where the files orginiated.

  • Blackberry Desktop Software doesn't recognize my .rem files on my SD media card. Cannot sync them to my Mac.

    Hi,
I'm experiencing this problem where Blackberry Desktop Software for Mac 2.3.0 (build 12)  doesn't recognize my .rem files (video and photo) on my SD media card (the Desktop Software app does show that file space on the media card is being used). Therefore, these files cannot be synced, decrypted, and viewed on my computer. I can see them on phone. I do have mass storage mode turned on and I can see the .rem files in the video and photo folders when my phone is connected to my computer. I can copy them to my Mac but since they aren't decrypted, I cannot view them.
I'm going to buy a new phone and I need to get these files off my current phone.  I have a Tour 9630 with BB  OS 5.0 bundle 1600.
I've tried backing up, reformatting the media card, wiping, and restoring but nothing has worked.
Is there any kind of utility that will let me decrypt the files on my computer? Should I try Blackberry Desktop Software for Windows?
I'm hoping someone can provide some suggestions? Thanks in advance.

    Hey jack_clarke,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
Make sure mass storage mode is enabled on the BlackBerry: www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB13564
If this is disabled you won't be able to access your media card from the computer.

  • Convert REM Files to MP3 Format?

I have downloaded several songs via the Amazon MP3 application on my Blackberry Curve 9300.  Little did I know that the songs were downloaded as rem files and not mp3 format?  I cannot upload the files to my desktop or laptop computers nor my Kindle.
Amazon said since I downloaded most of the songs over 3 months ago, they cannot move them over to my Cloud Player.  How do I convert rem file to mp3 format?  I do not want to have to purchase these songs again.

That process above won't work. Waste of time.
Your files were downloaded as MP3 files, but you have content encryption placed on your Media Card, and then the REM extension is added to the filename, because you have protected those files.
You must turn off the encryption first, and then you can copy the files and they will be usable.

  • A few of the photos will not transfer as they are saved as jpeg.rem files

    Hi,
I'm new to this board and trying to transfer pictures and videos from my Blackberry Bold  (work one with T-mobile) to
my PC.  I tried to do it by using media card reader and was sucessfully able to most of the files
but for some reason a few of the photos will not transfer as they are saved as jpeg.rem files
on my media card. Any ideas why would some of the pictures would be save in a different format
and any suggestions how to transfer them?
I have the same issue with the videos..out of 20+ that I have on the device memory i was only
able to copy about 5 that are in .gp format...rest of them will not open as it appears to be encrypted.
I also have a blackberry curve (with AT&T) as my personal phone...would it read my media card from the
    Blackberry Bold?
    Thanks!

    Hi guruli
The .rem files indicate these files are encrypted.  This article should help.

  • .Rem files removed from blackberry, how to copy them back?

Unaware of all the issues surrounding  .rem files, I copied the files to my desktop using the default windows media manager and checked the "erase from device" option.
So now I have all the .rem files on my computer which I cannot view, and if I copy them back to the pictures folder on my blackberry, they donot show up in the media library on the phone.
I am happy to mail these files to myself from my blackberry, however is there any way to get them back onto my blackberry??
    Please help.
    Thanks.

Now that you've copied them to your pictures folder, do a powered on, battery pull reboot, and the cache should update with the pictures in the folder.

  • Every pdf file in my laptop has been converted into an unreadable Word file. Help!

Every pdf file in my laptop has been converted into an unreadable Word file.
This happened while I was trying to convert a large pdf file to Word using Adobe export pdf, which I purchased recently. When I try to export a large pdf file, I get a message "An error occurred while trying to access the service."
The inability to convert a file from pdf to Word is an annoyance after I spent $19.95 for export pdf. But the making of all my pdf files unreadable is a disaster.

I suspect that isn't connected. Start Adobe Reader, use File > Open for these PDFs. Do they open?  (I suspect it's just double clicking that does it, which isn't the only way or best way to open files).

  • Iphoto-cell phone micro card "unreadable"

Samsung cell phone, micro S hc 4 gb, emtec micro S adapter, MacBook Pro, 10.7.5, IPhoto 9.4.2.
At import, "preparing for import," then list of files on card, then "unreadable files."
Photos on card JPG. Any suggestions? Thanks

Well on the 3 android phones I've had there is a setting to unmount the micro sd card before removing it from the phone. None of the phones I've had have been samsung but I don't see why they would be any different.
Did you reinsert the card in the phone and then connect the phone to one of the usb ports? And then select the option to use the phone as a mass storage device, that is an option on the phone. That should open up the sd card so you can read and write to it.
If I recall correctly I think I have read about a samsung program you install on your computer for transferring files. A google search should turn that up.

  • File corruption on SDCard when multiple files are being written from WinCE 6.0R3

We currently have file corruption problems which we have been able to reproduce on our system which uses WinCE 6.0R3. We have an SDCard in our system which is mounted as the root FS.  When multiple files are being written to the file system we occasionally
see file corruption with data destined from one file, ending up in another file, or in another location in the same file.  We have already written test SW that we have been able to use to reproduce the problem, and have worked with the SDCard vendor to
check that the memory controller on the card is not the source of the problems.
We know that the data we send to WriteFile() is correct, and that the data which eventually gets sent through the SDCard driver to the SD card is already corrupted.
We believe that the problem is somewhere in the microsoft private sources between the high level filesystem API calls and the low level device calls that get the data onto the HW.
We have confirmed that the cards that get corrupted are all good and this is not a case ofpoor quality flash memory in the cards. The same cards that fail under WinCE 6.0R3 never fail under the same types of testing on Windows, Mac OX, or linux.  We
can hammer the cards with single files writes over and over, but as soon as multiple threads are writing multiple files it is only a matter of time before a corruption occurs.
One of the big problems is that we are using the sqlcompact DB for storing some data and this DB uses a cache which get's flushed on it's own schedule. Often the DB gets corrupted because other files are being written when the DB decides to flush.
So we can reproduce the error (with enough time), and we know that data into the windows CE stack of code is good, but it comes out to the SDcard driver corrupted.  We have tried to minimize writes to the file system, but so far we have not found a
way to make sure only one file can be written at once. Is there a setting or an API call that we can make to force the OS into only allowing one file write at a time, or a way of seeing how the multiple files are managed in the private sources?
    Thanks
    Peter

All QFE's have been applied we are building the image so we have some control.
I have build an image which used the debug DLL's of the FATFS and I have enabled all of the DebugZones.  The problem is still happening. From the timings in the debug logs and the timestamps in the data which corrupts the test file I have been able
to see that the file is corrupted AFTER the write is complete. Or at least that's how it seems.
We finished writing the file and closed the handle. Then more data is written to other files. When we get around to verifying the file it now contains data from the files that were subsequently written.
What I think I need to do is figure out in detail how the two files were "laid down" onto the SDCard.  If the system used the same cluster to write the 2 files then that would explain the issue.

  • How do I backup bookmarks to a folder on my desktop & NOT just an unreadable .json file before trying to recover lost bookmarks?

Previously whenever upgrading to a new browser my Bookmarks stayed the same. So I went into the library to backup what little I have left & was told to 'save to folder on my hard drive' & did so. There's NO FOLDER, just an unreadable file with the extension of .json
Maybe I should ask a better question: When restoring the bookmarks from a prior date will I get back EVERYTHING from that day (which would include the ones I was told to backup & can't, or am I faced with losing what I have left to get back what I lost? I have Windows XP home ed. version 3 & I'm afraid to do anything at all.
I know it's not life & death, just webpages I visit often, but some ARE very important & I don't have the greatest memory to remember them all.
PLEASE HELP ME!! Thanks in advance.

You can restore a JSON backup in Firefox if you have such a backup.<br />
    * Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Restore > Choose File
Restoring a JSON will however replace all the current bookmarks.<br />
If you have any that you want to preserve then you need to export the bookmarks to an HTML file and re-import that HTML backup after you have restored the JSON backup.<br />
Make sure that a JSON backup has .json file extension and that an HTML backup has a .html fle extension to avoid problems (nothing happens or you get an error like can't process the backup file).

  • How Do Decrypt .rem Files on Mac OSX10.6.8

    hi,
i have an old bb curve 8900 with over 1000 pics and i am trying to download the pics, but every time i try they all have the .rem extension.
ive tried transferring them to my mac using the bb desktop manager but it is only reading 168 pics and ignoring the rest.
ive tried changing the media card settings as suggested by another site, and i have tried using the media card adapter but neither has helped.
is there something i need to do differently?
    thanks,
    greg

    Hey Ghanderman,
Welcome to the BlackBerry® Support Community Forums.
If the BlackBerry® smartphone's media card files have a .rem extension added to the original file name this idicates the files are encrypted and media card encryption is enabled.
For instructions on how to turn on/off media card encryption, see: http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/btsc/KB12999
    Thanks.

  • ZEN MICRO: How to save files (to my harddi

    Hi everyone!
I would like to install most recent firmware for my ZEN MICRO.
Creative strongly recommends, to save all data (here: music files) beforehand.
    But how?
I should let you know, that most of the music (around 350 files) has been filed under"Albums", that I have created by myself by means of the Creative MediaSource Organizer, where I "overwrited" the original Album Name of the music file and gave them my individual sequence of tracks within "my" albums.
I have tried it once before:
When I save the files to my computer and copy them to my ZEN thereafter, all of my individual markings (such as Albums, sequence of tracks etc.) were "lost".
If it only would be20 files, I could re-name them without greater effort, but with around 350 files I do not dare to do that again!!
    Any idea, any help?
    Thanks&Regards

Here is what you should do:
    - Download and install the latest Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 3.30.2 from your product download site.
    - Download and install the latest Creative Zen and NOMAD Jukebox plugin 2.00.9 for Creative MediaSource from your product download site.
    - Launch Creative MediaSource Oragnizer.
    - Go to Tools->Settings->PC Music Library and click Properties. Set your preferred folder and file naming convention. Close the setting page.
    - In the Sources window, click to view PC Music Library.
    - Go to View->Right Panel View and select to view your MP3 player.
    - Transfer the tracks from your MP3 player to MediaSource's PC Music Library by clicking the arrow pointing from right to left.
    - If you have updated the track information of the tracks in your MP3 player, the updated track information will also be imported into the PC Music Library database. However, the tags of the files are not updated. Here is what you need to do. Right click the PC Music Library node in the Sources window or right click on any tracks in the PC Music Library window and select "Update Tag". This will update the tag of all the tracks or the selected tracks with the track information as seen in the PC Music Library.

  • I have a Micro SD card with files on it from a samsung phone. I want to load the pictures and pic stitch items to my apple computer

I just transferred to an iphone from a samsung. At the store they loaded my pictures and files from the phone to a micro SD card. I have a micro reader that I used in USB port. Question? How do I retrieve my pic stitch photos that were stored in my samsung phone? Shouldn't they be on the micro SD card?

Do you mean that the store transferred the photos from the iPhone? If so, how did they accomplish this? An iPhone won't store photos directly on an SD card, so it depends on how the store made the transfer. Normally you would just insert the card in the reader and it would mount in Finder on the Mac and you'd just drag the photos to the hard drive, but the format of the card may be wrong.
If you're referring to a card from the Samsung, then it will probably depend on the model of phone you have. If you'll post back with that, someone can probably offer suggestions.
    Regards.

  • USB/SDcard deleted/hidden files

    Hi All
I realised myself quite recently that files that were 'deleted' on a USB stick were still taking up space on the USB dongle. Anyway it didn't occur to me to empty the trash because 'windows' doesn't work like that, until that is I read some of the other posts.
Even so when USB dongles or SD cards that contain or have contained 'deleted' files I've seen that the iMAC has inserted new folders on the external dongle/SD called .Trash & .Spotlight. I only saw these folders & their contents when the dongle/SD card was connected to a Cyclone Micro Media device. This explained why the Cyclone doesn't recognise these 'deleted' photo JPGs & stops the slide show i.e. because they have two dots in the filename (eg .IMAGE001.JPG) which the Cyclone doesn't like.
Sorry to whitter on ... my questions are:
+- can the Mac OS display files that are hidden (as you can do on windows) in the Trash (or elsewhere for that matter)+
+- why doesn't the Finder display of the Trash identify the full path name - by that I mean identify the actual device that holds the 'deleted' file. It doesn't seem to me that the 'deleted' files on a particular device can be identified from the list? or havn't I found the method yet?+
+- would dropping into unix reveal such information and could you then delete the 'deleted' files held on a specific external device?+
    thanks -- keith

    HI red4vr,
    welcome to the forums.
http://osxdaily.com/2009/02/25/show-hidden-files-in-os-x/ explains how to hide/show hidden files in the finder. As well as how to list hidden files in the terminal, and in the save/open dialog box. There are lots of hidden files on the computer that you should under no circumstance try to delete. A good rule of thumb is if you didn't make the folder, or what's in the folder; don't delete it. don't rename it, don't move it.
If this is some thing you want to do on a regular basis you may want to use a program like 'blind." http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/22495/blind this program adds a tool bar button to hide/show hidden files.
You are correct about the trash can, it shows every thing (not counting hidden files) in the trash for all the drives connected. If you want to tell what is on a specific external volume. You can goto that trash folder.
ie: finder, menu bar, go menu, goto folder, /volumes/NameOfVolume/.Trash
    Have a great new year
