Micro SIM in iPad 2

I have moved from the UK to the USA in January and after MUCH aggrovation, have switched my iPhone from Orange to AT&T.
My iPad 2 currently has a pay-as-you-go SIM from the UK.  Can this be changed to a US micro SIM?
Any help gratefully received...

Yes, you can change to AT&T. I believe any AT&T Store can give you a new SIM.

  • Using UK iPhone 4 Vodafone micro SIM in iPad

    Hello:
I have an iPhone 4 with a UK monthly contract with Vodafone.
I also have an iPad 3G, but do not have a SIM card for it, usually using it through wi-fi. I might eventually get a SIM card for it so that I can use the 3G.
But a thought has come to me. With my iPhone 4 with Vodafone UK I have a data plan as well as voice, but probably never use up the monthly data. I'm just wondering that when I find myself somewhere there is no wi-fi but I can get a 3G signal, is there any way I can take the mico SIM out of my iPhone 4 and put it in to my iPad 3G and use it with my iPad.
I imagine that Vodafone will probably be a bit sniffy about this, and maybe they have already blocked people doing this. I haven't tried it yet because I'm not sure what consequences it might have for messing up my settings etc. on iPhone4 and iPad 3G. But, has anybody done this, and does it work ?
I guess my rationale in wanting to do this is that I am paying Vodafone for data that I am not using on my iPhone, so it is my data which I've paid for, so why can't I access and use it on my iPad 3G if that is technically possible. Vodafone still gets paid, and I get to use the data I've paid for. Simples, no ?!

I gave this a try with vodafone, the carrier information was displayed at the top however when I attempted to connect to the internet I received a message stating that I did not subscribe to a data plan. I haven't played about with it so can't comment on how to get the iPad to recognise that there is a data plan. However, I can confirm that it works with a t-mobile micro sim.
It would be interesting to see if anyone else had had any luck in getting micro sims intended for an iPhone to work with an iPad and how they managed this.

  • My ipad does not find my micro sim card? Whats wrong?

my ipad does not find my micro sim card. Whats wrong

Where did you get the phone? If it was hacked or jailbroken prior to the update, this is pretty typical. If that's the case, it's now a brick.

  • How do I get an iPad micro sim card for Austria and Italy?  We purchased one for Germany, but it doesn't cover in Austria or Italy

Compare the roaming charges from the German carrier with services like those:

Otherwise buy a pre-paid micro-SIM card for the iPad in each country you visit.

  • US iPad 3G and using more than one micro-sim

    Hello
I'm planning on ordering a 3G iPad from the US. I travel very regularly and plan on having micro-sim cards for the countries I visit all the time i.e France, UK, Germany and others. Obviously it would be a lot cheaper to have separate sim cards for each country as opposed to roaming on a single subscription.
My question is whether any micro-sim will work in the US iPad 3G straight out of the box. I'll have absolutely no need for the AT&T sim.
    Thanks

This post is a little dated, but, as long as I'm here: I just got back from Canada, where I was able to do exactly this: I went into a Bell store in Vancouver and got a microSIM for my 3G iPad 2 ($5).  We took my AT&T SIM out and put the Bell SIM in, and it worked exactly the way it should have: I went to "Cellular Data" in Settings and it let me sign up for a variety of month-to-month plans; I went for 5 GB of service for $35.  The only thing I had to work around was that the sign-up form wouldn't accept "CA" as a Canadian province; I substituted "BC", and it was happy.  The service worked great, and was much cheaper than AT&T's international data roaming plan.
I presume I could go back to Canada and re-use the SIM to purchase a new plan, but I'm not sure how long that would work -- do SIMs (and their phone numbers) used in this way time out after awhile?
To perhaps extend the discussion a bit: I'm going to be in France and the UK in July, and would like to do the same sort of thing, ideally getting one microSIM and service plan that would work in both countries.  Orange provides service in France and the UK, but I'm not sure if a service plan bought in France would continue to work in the UK.  Any advice?

What roaming charges? If you have a local plan there are no roaming charges. This is a major reason for using a local plan.
Contact, or visit the website,  whatever local provider you are considering and get their plan details.

  • Ipad Micro Sim vs Iphone 4 Micro Sim

Just noticed this on the UK apple store. They sell Sim Unlocked Phones (like NZ and Australia etc) and under the FAQs they have the following:
Are iPhone 4 and iPad micro-SIM cards interchangeable?
No. Your iPad micro-SIM card will not work with your iPhone.
Surely that is a “we dont want you to interchange” as opposed to “it wont work” as I thought a micro sim card is a micro sim card and it will work in any device that needs one. Anyone else have any insight to this. You of the understanding that our Micro Sims from the Ipad (cut or purchased) will work in either device?

The iPad apparently will try to intercept calls when used with a regular phone microsim.

  • Ipad 3 micro sim trouble

I have my Ipad 3 with AT&T, and I moved to Ecuador for vacation. I tried to insert a brand new micro sim from a local cellular provider, on the upper left corner it appears the anthena full connected and the 3G logo, also the brand of the local cellular provider but when I try to navigate on Safari or try to use data package from the sim it won't navigate and it gets still.
Please help me, if there is anyone who have the same trouble please help me.

It only depends on your operator ! For example, with Orange in France it works perfectly !
    So, what does that prove?
It may have escaped your attention, but this is an international forum.
We are therefore looking for solutions that will work anywhere on earth, and not merely for one single carrier in merely one single country like France!
    Cédric Eyraud wrote:
And no an iPad is not an cellular phone but it accepts an iPhone4 micro Sim for data connexion.
Yes, because both devices happen to use a micro-SIM card, but this certainly does not mean that a particular carrier will allow a data device like an iPad to access their data network with an iPhone 4 micro-SIM card.
Many European carriers (also world-wide) very clearly make a distinction between a micro-SIM card for an iPhone 4 and a micro-SIM card for an iPad. For those particular carriers, the micro-SIM cards are therefore NOT interchangeable for the two devices!

iPads are not Carrier locked and as long as you are happy with a 3G signal
you can buy a PAYG data sim in many countries

  • My ipad keeps showing a 'network restricted' message when trying to use my new micro sim, can anyone help?

I have just changed my mobile provider and obtained a new Vodafone micro sim. I restored all the settings on my ipad and put my new micro sim card in. However, I keep getting an error message telling me that my network is restricted. Has anyone had the same issue and is there a solution?

The Computer 'area' wouldn't be for accessing your iPad. You would use basic airplay or mirroring to stream content from your IOS device.

  • HT201415 can i use my 3g ipad overseas if i put in a new micro sim?

Im planning on using my ipad whilst traveling through Aus. I bought it from the apple store in hong kong and have been using a micro sim. Can I put in a new sim card in Australia? Or is the iPad locked to the hk network?

Did you buy your iPad from an HK telecom operator who locks their iPads they sell?
If the answer is no and your iPad is indeed unlocked, then you can use any micro-SIM card in your iPad, provided it is actually compatible with an iPad.

  • HT201699 My Ipad 2 recognizes my MTNL Micro sim and connects me to 3g network easily. I put the same sim in the latest ipad 3, it always gives error as "sim failure'. I did all the work such as putting correct APN, restarting the ipad etc. Still why this

I do have this problem with new Ipad3.
I used Ipad 2 3g with mtnl,Mumbai as carrier. The sim I used have not given me any problem as my Ipad immediately recognized and connected me to internet.
Recently i purchased I pad 3 3G. I have inserted the above micro sim to this ipad. It always gave this message as " Invalid Sim".I have the the following to correct the problem
Put the correct APN under cellular data. There is no need of user name or pass word
Restarted my I pad after putting the APN
Taken out the sim from the tray and reinserted it later.
Checked whether I got the latest carrier version
    Turned off wifi
Switched on and off cellular data
I know that the sim is not locked because the same sim is working in my telephone as well as ipad2
Now the SOS to my community members please....

Oh friend. Now I am totally disappointed with this big purchase. My connectivity is now limited with wifi only.(till my operator starts 4G service).
Anyway manyy thanks for attending my doubts....

  • HT4199 where do I put the micro sim for the iPad, dosent seem to be any where to insert the card

Where do I put the micro sim for the iPad , I cant find any where to put the card.

What model is your iPad? (iPad, iPad 2 or New iPad). Did you get the AT&T or Verizon model? If you got the Verizon model, it doesn't have a SIM slot.
