Microdots Registration Marks

One of my vendors have requested that we include microdots on each printing plate for registration instead of crop marks and center marks. Is there a setting in Illustrator for these microdots - like there is for creating crop marks - or will I have to manually draw and place them within the artwork?

Brenda:
You'll have to make them but you can easily create a Symbol for this. Also, if you have fixed page sizes you can create a full page symbol with the microdots in their correct place and just drop it on the appropriate sized document as needed.
Get any specs from your vendor to create these and make sure you get an approved copy that's been signed off on by your vendor (trust me, it's worth it in the long run.)
Have fun!

  • FrameMaker 10.0.2 still not printing to pdf with registration marks

    I upgrade from FrameMaker 10.0 to 10.0.2 this weekend and was able to print a test page with registration marks. Today I cannot. The page size is larger than the document. The message "registration marks are outside of page size" appeared once.
    My book is 3.5" x 6" and the Format > Page Layout > Page Size is 8.5" x 11". The print driver is Adobe PDF. Western  registration marks are turned on.
    Am I doing something wrong?

    I haven't checked this lately, but I'm remembering that registration marks only appeared automagically if the Press job option was enabled.
    Otherwise, as Van suggets, just add them with Acrobat (assuming you have the full package).
    Also, I hope you're printing to the Acrobat printer, not using SaveAsPDF...

  • Change color for trim and registration mark

    The trim and registration marks are having the color name "All" in the generated pdf from InDesign. Any one help me out on how to change the color to K (black) while generating PDF out of InDesign.

    JohnAD77 wrote:
    Is it possible to make to 4/c to 1/c (black 100%) while generating PDF itself without adding marks in the document?
    Maybe, in CS6, by exporting to Grayscale, but this will make everything black ink only. Otherwise, no.
    To add your own marks, add a slug area to the file, draw whatever you want for marks in that area, using [Black], and turn off automatic marks in the export dialog, but Include Slug Area under the bleed settings.

  • Preset to put a registration mark in center of page

    I cannot figure out how to put my reg. mark in the center of the page to set it up for silk screening! When i click Print and go to marks and bleeds and select the tab for Registration Marks they only go to the outer corners and there is not a preset (that I can see) that puts them to the center. Please help!!

    Typically reg. marks are outside the print area. If you need one within the page area you'll need to create your own. You can create the register mark, like any other artwork and assign it the default "Registration" color from the swatch panel.
    To place something in the center of a given artboard:
    Either:
    Cut artwork element(s) (Cmd-x)
    zoom to artboard (cmd-0)
    Paste (Cmd-V)
    Or:
    Select artwork element(s)
    Choose "Align to Artboard" in pull-down menu in options bar
    Click "Horizontal Align Center" and "Vertical Align Center" buttons in option bar

  • Placing registration marks on the corners of document

    I have to process a lot of files to be router trimmed which requires them to have very specific registration marks.  There are 2 different marks we have to use.  The first mark is at the top left corner of the image contains 2 .25" dots separated vertically by a 1" gap.  The other mark is one .25" mark that is in the top right, bottom right, and bottom left corners.  I have both of these registration marks saved as symbols (or just AI files).  I want to be able to have the script automatically place the appropriate marks in the corners.  How can this be done?
    Thanks!
    Chris

    here you go, your symbols must be the first and second in the symbols panel. Top/Left symbol must be the first in the Symbols panel. The other symbol must be the second in the panel
    #target Illustrator
    //  script.name = addRegistrationSymbols.jsx;
    //  script.description = adds custom registration marks (saved as symbols) to each corner of the active arboard;
    //  script.required = 2 symbols. Top/Left symbol must be the first in the Symbols panel. The other symbol must be the second in the panel
    //  script.parent = carlos canto // 10/30/14;
    //  script.elegant = false;
    // reference https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1621840
    // usage: your symbols must be the first and second in the symbols panel.

  • Green box with registration marks appears from nowhere

    ...and I'd like to get rid of it, but how and what is it?
    In any AICS3 document I open, my default is now an art board that is 200"x200" with a green rectangle about 60"x12" in its center. The green rectangle has registration marks on its corners. Even if I change the size of my art board to something smaller, the green rectangle remains. I've gone through all the preferences and everything in the View menu, but it is not affected by anything. It does not seem to be a template. Can anyone help me: 1. get rid of this annoying (but apparently benign) rectangle and 2. tell me what it is. It does not seem to do anything. Needless to say, it cannot be selected and is not referred to in any of the palettes. Thanks in advance for any help.

    Try Object > Unlock All and Object > Crop Area > Release. Also look for a locked layer in the Layers panel.

  • Putting registration marks on sheet using Pages08?

    I am creating a short handout and want it to be 1/3 page wide. Great - I have a 3 column layout and am ready to print. What I want to is put small registration marks at the top and bottom of the gutter area beteen the columns to aid in using a papercutter. Any way to do this short of measuring each page and using good old #2 pencil?

    When you are using the SaveAsPDF option for the book (which is the recommended route [now] over the File > Print], the Registration Marks are found on the Settings tab. Onc these have been selected, they are sticky (i.e. FM remembers what you used last).
    Using the File > Print settings, there is a difference in what FM remembers between printing individual files and printing the book file. You have to ensure that every file (including the book) has the correct setting when using this route.

  • Add document size to registration marks

    Is it possible to customise registration marks so they add the document size? Or is there a plugin that will enble this function? I'd like to implement it in my studio to help with our sign off procedure.

    If you add slug space around your document (which goes around the bleed), you can put anything you like in there.
    It's still a manual job -- the registration marks can be adjusted somewhat in size and position, but adding a custom variable text is too much.

  • Registration marks error

    Hello to all,
    Have a book set to A5 page size that needs to be printed at a professional printer, with registration marks.
    I select an option for the Registration marks, but when the book is printed the error message of 'Registration marks will not fit on printed paper' appears. When looking at the user guide information it's mentioned that there are instances in which the printed page should be scaled down, so that the registration marks will fit on the page. This will scale down everything, which would be a problematic solution. How do you set up a page size that takes into account the registration marks?
    This document is created in FM 7.2 (Windows XP), distilled with Acrobat 7.0 professional.
    Many thanks for advice on this issue.
    Donna

    Apologize for the delay, many thanks to all that answered!
    Had to upgrade my computer and only now could check out the suggestions as they didn't work in the previous setup. But now they do! For other people who might refer to this post would like to add that my initial conceptual problem had been: If there's a setting for Registration marks, how is it that afterwards they don't fit in? After consulting with Shlomo Perets understood that the registration marks are external to the page size--as you had mentioned in your replies they don't fit in unless you print to a larger paper size. In taking the best of all worlds, decided that saving as PDF and defining in that dialog box a slightly larger page size ( ~30 mm for each margin) is the quickest method, but that's a personal preference.
    Thanks again, Donna

  • Registration marks

    Using FrameMaker 10 on Windows:
    I have a book with an odd-sized page (3¾ x 8½) that I am printing on regular 8½ x 11 paper.  Each file of the book uses a common page layout, common reference pages, &c. In the File—>Print menu, I have selected either Western or Tombo registration marks. When I print some of the individual files of the book, I can get the registration marks to appear. But for other files in the book — or when I attempt to print the entire book — registration marks will not appear.
    What attribute of a file (or book) controls whether registration marks can be produced?

    When you are using the SaveAsPDF option for the book (which is the recommended route [now] over the File > Print], the Registration Marks are found on the Settings tab. Onc these have been selected, they are sticky (i.e. FM remembers what you used last).

  • Is there a way to increase density for preset registration marks in Photoshop 7

    Need assistance for making registrations more opaque in film positives.

  • Can't get registration marks to appear

    I am creating a PDF from a Frame doc... I am using Frame 7.0 with Acrobat Pro 8.0... I've gotten them to appear before.. but this time i'm stymied...
    the page size is about 6 X 9 - portrait.. so there's plenty of room for the reg marks... I have set Western reg marks on both the main Print Setup window and the PDF set up window.... and have tried different levels of print quality (laser press, high quality, standard)... but nada.
    Can anyone tell me what I'm missing in my set up in order for my reg marks to appear?
    Thanks!

    What do you mean the formCalc button.....can you elaborate?

  • Registration marks converted to RGB

    In InDesign 2014 i've created some extra stripes which should appear in every color (but RGB), so i made them in registration color.
    After generating a pdf file, and inspecting the file in Acrobat, i see the registration color is converted in RGB, which i do not want.
    I only want CMYK and Pantone colors.
    How can i change this ?

    I've moved you question from the feature requests forum to the general discussions.
    Sounds like you are using an RGB simulation profile in the Acrobat output preview....

  • Adding crop marks and registration Urrrrrrrr.... CS3 Mac

    Hi,
    I think I have been working longer on trying to add crop marks and bleed to a business card then actually designing the artwork. Adobe really pisses me off with these PDF, Illustrator nonsense. Why is it SO complicated to add crop mark and registration marks to send to a printer?
    When I add a "Crop Area" in AI why it's not included when I export to PDF press quality? why do I need to start going through the crazy Acrobat Advanced menu? add printer marks... resize the page using the Crop Pages option... and then loosing my bleed background.
    Is there a simple way to do this?
    Thanks
    Mic

    Hi guys, you're really going about the whole thing wrong...as a prepress person I need to impose your designs to get best efficiency on the press. I will proably delete all your marks anyway and add my own.....however, my imposition programs use the HIDDEN crop, trim and bleed boxes in your artwork. If you make a huge page in illustrator and plonk your art somewhere arbitrarily in the centre I have to mess arounf for a few minutes to try to work out where your boxes lie. I am pretty careful, but I cannot guarantee other operators out there so you will probably start at the press with an error tolerance before you even start printing.
    The correct way to use the adobe programs is to define the FINISHED size (for business cards we generalise at 90x55mm). Then in the setup section you define your bleeds and slugs. Design your cards on that artboard (and add as many artboards as you want). Then when you are finished EXPORT to PDF (and make yourself a saved preference for this to make it a 1 step process) using the marks options in the side panel. Your new PDF file is perfect finished art for your printer and we can impose to our hearts' delight knowing the correct boxes are in the meta data and our programs will be 100% accurate.
    Now some of our clients need to show multiple cards up on a sheet to their clients so do not like this...but there is a trick. All you need to do is pull out an artboard around all your smaller cards. Take note of what artboard number this one is. Then all you do is export to pdf and only put that number into the Pages to be exported dialog (and put the other pages into the  finished art file being sent to your printer). The one going to your client can have manual trim artwork added but clients don't need rego or colour marks so don't worry.
    Everyone happy and really easy to do as this is how the program was built to be used
    Good luck
