Microdrive unusable after ejection

Hi everybody,
I've a problem with the Hitachi 4Gb Microdrive I use to transfer my images to the MBP via a USB Memory Corp Multi Card Reader unit. To day, after the images were transferred, I removed the microdrive as usual moving its icon into the trash bin before phisically pulling it out the card reader, but it is now unrecognizable, unreadable and worst: unformattable by the Canon Eos 5D, and recognized as a unreadable external device by the MBP, once reconnected. Anybody has some suggestion on how this happened and - better- how to restore or format the Microdrive, to make it useful again?
Thank you very much for any help you may provide
LeopoldoB

Sorry to learn of your problem. Here's one last suggestion, if you haven't already tried this: pop the microdrive into a PC laptop and reformat the drive under Windows OS.
1. Using a card reader or PC Card adapter, pop the drive into a Windows PC.
2. If the software isn't there already for the reader, then allow it to install the software (something I'm glad I don't have to worry about in Macs).
3. Once the software's installed (if any) double-click "My Computer" and look for an "E:drive" - that should be the card reader/microdrive.
4. right click on the E: drive and a menu appears. Look for "Format..."
5. click Format and just do a quick erase. That should do it.
Doing this should restore your ability to see the drive once again in your camera as well as your computers, provided the microdrive isn't suffering from some physical-type damage.
I hope this helps. Good luck.

  • PC Card slot unusable after ejecting device

I use my TiBook's PC Card slot for a Linksys wireless G card, and a SanDisk compact flash card reader. For the past few days, OS X only recognizes the device that is in place when the system is started (cold start or restart). When I eject the device and swap in the other one, or even put the initial device back in, it is not usable. The PC Card menu icon appears, and clicking on it shows that the device is being properly identified (Broadcom 802.11 or SanDisk blah blah depending on the device) but OS X won't let me use it. In the case of the wireless card, Internet Connect says "no airport hardware detected". In the case of the compact flash card, it doesn't mount or show up in Disk Utility.
    Any advice?

    Hi All,
I have a Powerbook Titanium G4 1GHz and an Adaptec AUA-1420a USB 2.0 2 Port CardBus. This card worked fine until Leopard instalation, I made all my backup in a external USB drive before start the Leopard setup.
Now, when I connect the card on PC Card slot, nothing happen. I tryed a Encore Ethernet Adapter and had the same status. In logs (system.log, or others in /var/log) nothing about, no errors, no warnings, no info, PC Card Slot is completly dead.
I tryed reinstall Tiger and Panther in other partition, because this card used work in those version, but, now CardBus doesn´t work anymore.
I tryed this card in another Powerbook G4 Aluminium running 10.4.11, and it works fine and system.log shows when it are connect or disconnect.
    Can anyone help me?
    Thanks!
    Welcome to the Apple Boards:
    Two things:
First, click on the little apple logo, top left whilst holding down the Option key and select System Profiler.
Check the POST diagnostic and also the other hardware. See if anything shows up
Secondly, zap our PRAM and see if that helps.

  • Is it possible to charge Ipod5G in Windows 2000 after ejecting from Itunes?

Is it possible to charge Ipod5G in Windows 2000 after ejecting from Itunes? but keeping it connected? I'm using a fairly powerful and new computer at work...loaded with Win2K (2000), and for some reason it doesnt want to charge once I've ejected it from Itunes.
My home computer with Windows XP works fine with this, I can eject, but keep it connected so it charges while i watch videos, or listen to music.
    Can anyone help?
also...the computer at work does have USB 2, and can charge properly...but only if the ipods screen says "DO NOT DISCONNECT"
    Thanks folks!

I have the same problem and the cause is with Windows 2000. My pc has USB 2.0 and no hardware problems either with the computer, ipod or cables. Basically Windows seems to be shutting down the power for the USB port as soon as Itunes completes its update every time. So the ipod gets a charge for a minute or two and that's it.
I have just been using another pc for the charge which is annoying - haven't found a solution yet although fiddling with the settings so that itunes is only started up manually may be a good workaround.
Other people have had the same problem in Win 2k with other models -

After ejecting a disk plugged into the USB port using Finder, I am now getting "The disk was not properly ejected" message.  This didn't used to happen.  How can this be corrected?

When you right (control) click on the disk and click eject "disk name", do you pull it immeadiatly or wait a few seconds for it to unmount? Try waiting and see if you get the same message. If you do, when the disk is connected go to applications/utilities/disk utility, after opening DU, select the volume in question from the left side bar and try a permissions repair, you may also run verify disk and see if it comes up with any errors (they will be in red)

  • USB port gone after ejecting external HDD

    All software uptodate.
I have strange issue with USB ports. After ejecting USB drive (external HDD, powered by USB bus), which worked perfectly, USB port does not recognize anything, nor providing power. Turning MBP off and then booting back solves this issue.
    Any ideas?

After some time I connected external HDD to "dead" port again. And got power. But still no devices recognized on this port. For example: iPad does not charge, not recognized.

  • USB drive keep showing up after eject

I just bought a USB drive today and everything works perfectly except - after 3-4 seconds after I ejected the disk, it will keep showing up in Finder automatically and it keeps doing that everytime I ejected it. I disconnect the usb drive between the gap (after eject and its auto re-mount). So, anybody know what's the problem here? I verify and repair the usb disk (as well as my internal hard drive) in disk utility, but still the problem keeps showing up.

    Adnan,
    two suggestions:
    1) Try it using a different Mac
    2) Create a new user account and check things there

  • Why my ipod vibrate after ejecting from PC?

Why my ipod vibrate after ejecting from PC (and sometimes when I turn it on)?

This is most likely just the HD (hard drive) spinning, which is normal.
As long as your iPod is working fine, I wouldn't be worried. That sounds completely normal.

  • 10.5.8 unusable after Garageband crash

For whatever reason, 10.5.8 hung up on me about an hour ago while using GarageBand. It was a complete hang up with only the sound from GB playing. I was unable to access Force Quit or Activity Monitor to kill processes. The only recourse was to shut the power down. Now, whenever I boot up the iMac, it is completely unusable. Booting to the login screen takes approximately 5 minutes (compared to 1 minute before). After clicking on my user name, I am able to enter my password a minute later. 5 minutes after hitting enter, my wallpaper shows up. Once the OS is completely booted, any commands, clicks, etc take anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes to register. Programs will not launch. Eventually, I end with a black screen (which could just be the SS trying to start and taking 15 minutes or more).
I have a bootable backup from this afternoon that works fine. I'd like to use it to figure out what's wrong (as opposed to simply restoring). Any ideas?

    HI,
Try booting from your install disk and verify the startup disk for errors.
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger and later) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window where you see Capacity and Available. Make sure there is always 10% free disk space. Not enough disk space can cause directory corruption.
If you cannot boot from your install disk, try booting in Safe Mode
    What is Safe Mode

  • DVD still spinning after eject?

I have Samsung DVD burner. Well, what they call "Samsung".
So I am having problem that When I eject the DVD after burning. It still spin very fast. I don't know it is because the failure of the DVD drive, or it is the driver's problem.
any idea? If it is the drive's problem, I would like to update my drive before I did my Arch installation.
BTW, is there any good SATA DVD drive you recommend?
    Thanks

SAMSUNG 18X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe Black SATA Model SH-S183L - OEM
and yet, I am using ubuntu.
There is also problem with K3B, it always say can't found Drive, and therefore you can't burn DVD, however, If I don't use burning software, there is never a problem that my Drive can't be found. and It work fine with Brasero.
haha it is kind of hard to trouble shoot this problem to me, it is kind of odd.
    Thanks

  • Index is unusable after using Direct path of SQL Loader

When using the Direct path of SQL Loader to load records from a comma(,) seperated file into a table, the index which I specify the records are sorted in becomes unusable. In the log file created by SQL Loader the error: "ORA-01409: NOSORT option may not be used; rows are not in ascending order" occurs. I am pre sorting the data in the order of the index, the index is a multi column index. The index and table prior to initiating SQL Loader are not empty and contain existing records.
Can anybody suggest a reason as to why this is happening even thought I am pre sorting the data in ascending order as per the index?
    Brad.

    Thanks for reply Gerald!
After further investigation I kind of answered my own question and found that the data I was loading was not in the order that Oracle was expecting. The problem stems from how the UNIX command SORT works compared to how data is ordered by in Oracle by the ORDER BY statement. I was using UNIX's SORT command to pre sort my data before loading it directly into Oracle.
UNIX's SORT seems to order Null's before anything else in ascending order, where as Oracle's ORDER BY order's Null values last for ascending order!
I got around this by putting in my pre-sorted data the highest printing ASCII character when ever a field was Null. The highest printing ASCII character is 'tilde' (~). As UNIX's SORT uses the ASCII collating sequence to determine the sort order the post-sorted data was sorted as per Oracle expected. And to not actually load up "~" into my Oracle table I just specified in the SQL*Loader control file for these fields, NULLIF (field_name = "~").

  • Excessive disk I/O after ejecting external storage device (USB, firewire)

    Hi all,
I've noticed a problem in my macbook pro that every times after I ejected a storage device, say SanDisk through a USB 2.0 card reader, I found about 20G+ bytes were wrote on the start disk. The excessive disk I/O brought the performance to its knees, and I can only recover it by reboot the computer. It looks like the data written on the disk were gone after reboot. Is there a way I can trace what has been written?
    Thanks

    Jovahn,
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Unfortunately, external USB drives are not well supported on PPC Macs such as the eMac (later Intel CPU Macs do have better support for USB external USB drives, including booting). Regrettably, if the USB drive manufacturer doesn't have decent Mac drivers available, I don't know of a real fix, short of selling the USB drive and picking up a Firewire one. Or, pick up a Firewire enclosure, which is fairly cheap, and put the actual hard drive from the external USB enclosure in the Firewire enclosure --- PT: HD drive replacement tips should provide some good pointers.

  • How to get back HDD after ejecting ?

    Hi guys,
I tried to import some files into FCE. The files is located in my external HDD.
After clicking click import, the finder comes out & I am supposed to click the icon of the external HDD but I accidentally clicked the triangle icon thus causing the external HDD to eject.
In order to get the icon of the external HDD back again so I can do the import, I restart the whole system but I think this is too time consuming.
Is there a way to get the external HDD back without having to restart the whole system ?
    Thanks

Unplug and replug the drive, or use the Disk Utility in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder to mount it.
