Microphone and speaker /dev/ entries?

Dear all,
Which /dev/ entry corresponds to the microphone and which to the speakers?
I suppose there is a more general question which is "How can I find out which driver takes care of a given /dev/ entry?". ls -l gives the major and minor device numbers but how do I turn the major number into something intuitively meaningful?
I'm working on the premise that I can read a chunk of data from /dev/mike whatever that might be and then replay it by writing it to /dev/audio, whatever that might be. Is this accurate? Is there anything I should watch out for? Helpful hints on the format in case I want to convert it to mp3 or some other such format all appreciated.
Regards, Max

Try to perform a hard reset of the phone (Press and hold the HOME button and the Sleep/wake button until you see the Apple logo).
If that does not fix then Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings. If both these reset options fails then you might have to restore the phone.

  • Microphone and Speaker

My microphone and speaker aren't working when I phone someone with my Blackberry Pearl 8100. The speaker works when I'm scrolling through everything but not when I phone some one. I don't hear the ringer when I phone somebody either. What should I do

Thank you, I just did that on your recommendation, no result, in the settings, I can not get any sound out of any alarm or ring tone. Same in the "manage" the ring tones.

  • A problem with the microphone (and speaker) in Multisim

    Hello
I want to use the microphone in Multisim, the only problem is that, once I double click the microphone, all the buttons are greyed out (I can't press them). I tried to change several things in the control panel, but it still doesn't work, and I really need it. What should I do?
By the way, only the speaker can convert the sound to a voltage signal, right?
Another thing, I searched and saw someone else had the same problem as I had, but it didn't help me.
    Thank you

There is a situation where the Speaker component will not work depending on your hardware. Nestor  explained this to me. What he told me is that if your sound card driver "controls all the sound, speakers, equalizer, etc... windows communicates to that driver in order to generate sound...  this is the thing that is not supported in LabVIEW. LV controls sound devices that are directly controlled by Windows only"
This is how he explained it to me and I hope he doesn't mind me posting this, but I couldn't explain it better than he did. This may be what is happening in your situation where the speaker is concerned.
I do not believe, based upon Nestor's explaination, that there is much that we can do about this on our end. It all depends on your hardware driver and if that driver is doing what Nestor says then unless you change your hardware to something compatible (which I am not willing to do) then we are both just stuck with what we have. I could be wrong about this last statement, but that is the way I am understanding what is happening.

  • LG Spectrum - Microphone and Speaker issues in a call

I have two LG Spectrum phones and both have the same problem.  First problem: When in a call and using Speakerphone, voices over speaker on Spectrum are distorted / garbled unless volume is reduced to lowest 2 settings.  However, playing music over the speaker at full volume works without issue.  It appears the incoming Verizon Network Voice amplitude is too high and is overdriving the speaker.  Second problem:  The microphone volume is too low which causes cutouts and muffled volume to the other person.  However, when using speakerphone mode, the microphone volume is significantly better to the other person, but still have "First problem" with Speakerphone listed above.
Is there a fix for these issues or will there be any software updates to resolve these issues?

So this seems to be a design issue that should be addressed by LG AND Verizon. We spent $$$ (although maybe discounted) and we deserve products that meet our basic needs, i.e. I bought a PHONE and should be able to use it as a PHONE, hence smartPHONE.
I also have 2 Spectrum's in which both have the same call quality issue of mumbling. Unfortunately we did not realize this to be such an issue and could not return them until 18 days after our purchase; and Verizon only backs their products for returns 15 days. Now we are stuck with 2 poor phone quality phones until we are "eligible" for another upgrade or pay full price (overpriced) for new phones. When we tried to return them on the 18th day the salesmen said the problem was the screen protector because it was covering the screen and the microphone was under the screen. Although I pointed out that in fact the microphone was not covered because it is on the bottom, hence the microphone hole. He said the only other option would be a warranty replacement. I guess my conversations with my wife will be limited to only a few minutes while I am traveling 2 weeks at a time for the next year and half, thank you Verizon for standing behind your products and taking care of your customers.
    Sorry for the rant.

  • Microphone and speaker no longer working after update to 4.3.3

2 hours ago i have updated my iPhone 4 to iOS 4.3.3
It is a standard, never jailbreaked or whatever, iPhone 4, which was running 4.3.2
After the update suddenly i heard no sounds when pressing any buttons.
I checked the settings, but everything was still the same.
I then tried to call a friend, but when the connection was made i neither heard him nor did he hear me.
    After that i tried :
    1) changing the ringtone, to see if any sound would come fromt he speakers : nothing
    2) running the dictafoon, but when pressing record i get : no micophone available. Connect a microphone to record memo's
    3) connecting a headset to see if that would work : nothing
    4) connecting a bluetooth headset : nothing
    5) restoring files and trying all again : nothing
    6) restoring all and trying again : nothing
    7) starting iPhone in recovery mode, resetting all (like it was a new iPhone) and trying again : nothing
Anyone got any bright ideas left ?

If you have restored in iTunes on a computer and the problem remains then it's a hardware fault and it needs to be repaired. When you update the iOS version on an iOS device it checks the hardware components, this is when it'll detect un-diagnosed hardware faults and the components will stop working... even if they were working previously

  • Microphone, Firewire and Speaker ports on front of compu

Many computers today have firewire ports and microphone and speaker ports on the front of the computer.
Does anyone know how to connect any of these ports on the front of the computer to the sound card inside the computer.
I am building a computer and have put in a Soundblaster Audigy 2ZS Sound Card and I would very much like to connect the ports on the front of my computer to the soundcard.
Does anyone know how I can do this?
    Thanks,
    Regis

Not sure enb4 - you can order an X-Fi card as an option at time of purchase, in which case the front panel connectors?are available. If you?subseuqently install?a new/different card, I'd assuming you can then use the same ribbon cable - the problem is?you can't purchase the cable as an aftermarket accessory. I know the Dell X-Fi card is slightly different from the true Creative original X-Fi, so maybe you're right in that the front panel only works with the Dell installed version - which fortunately you also can't buy as a separate item?as apparently isn't a good unit anyway ?

My client with autism needs to be able to speak/sing into a microphone and simultaneously hear his voice through a headset, preferably with reverb set on high.  Is it possible to do this with the iPad and OS7?  If so, what setup do I need?  I have a SM58 type mic and-over-the ear headphones.

This implies that ODP.NET does NOT need to be installed on a client. However, I cannot find OraOPs9.dll on a machine with Client Release 9.2 installed. Should OraOps?.dll automatically come with a Client installation of 9.2 or higher?
ODP.NET needs to be installed on the client. OraOps9.dll is part of ODP.NET, not the Oracle Client.
Also, if an application is built with the 10g ODP.NET, can it be run from a machine with OraOps9.dll?
If an application is built with 10g ODP.NET, it can be run with 9.2 ODP.NET as long as you do not use any 10g APIs. The new features in 10g ODP.NET are included in the doc and the ODP.NET FAQ for your reference.

  • Windows 7 and Speaker Hiss

Ever since I installed Windows 7 months ago on my T400, I've noticed (when docked, with external speakers) it makes a speaker hiss that is correlated to mouse movement (external wireless mouse), and particularly, scrolling with the mouse wheel.  I've heard these sounds on other computers, but I never had the issue on mine until I upgraded to Win 7.  I've muted and disabled the microphone, and I've tried rearranging the USB plugs (wireless receiver), but all to no avail.  Anyone have a cure for the hiss?

I have the exact same issue on my T400s that came preloaded with Win7.
All I can think of is some sort of grounding issue in the laptop or dock. I'm going to try putting a ground loop isolator between the dock jack and the amp/speakers, see if that helps...

  • Please help: Can't access your microphone and soun...

    Dear all,
I think this question have been surfaced many times, but after searching for answers sometime, I just have to post again.  So bear with me.
    Machine: Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E220s
    Purchase date: October 2011
    Description: Laptop
Audio: Internal Microphone (Conexant 20671 SmartAudio HD)
Speaker: Speakers (Conexant 20671 SmartAudio HD)
                 - In English, that is the internal speaker.
OS: Windows 7 Home Premier 64 bit
    Skype: 5.5.0.124
               - In English, that is the most up to dated version
When I try to call the Echo / Sound Test, after hearing the lady says hello, I see a message box comes up:
Microphone tab has a red exclamation mark.
Speaker tab has a read exclamation mark.
In each tab, there is "Can't access your sound card" message. Sometime I see another small box at the bottom right saying "No microphone detected."
    What I have done
    1) Tools -> Options -> General -> Audio settings
For Microphone and Speakers, I have uncheck the auto adjust settings.
Restart Skype. Do the "Echo / sound test" and same thing. No detection.
    2) Edit AppData\Skype\shared.xml
[ Edit: It seems like the editor here does not like the percent sign before and after the AppData.]
    a) I make sure the line AGC XML tag has a value of zero (0).
    b) I make sure the MicVolume tag is just 100.
Restart Skype. Same thing. Not working.
    3) Test out speaker and microphone in the Skype welcome screen.
    The speaker always works.
The test on microphone works sometime and does not work sometime.
Help please! I have less than 24 hours to make a very important call over Skype!

I solve the issue. After I have updated the system using Lenovo's own software update, the microphone works! I hate it. I think I have run many many times the Windows update but it does not pick up the Lenovo software.
So solution: Always update your computer system software. If it is a laptop, be sure to use it's own software updater!
