Microphone and speakers died

I broke my iPhone 4 screen about 6 weeks ago.. it's not terrible and the phone was completely fine otherwise so I just kept using it. About 2 weeks ago my microphone quit working completely and the external speakers now output at about 50% volume. It has made the phone pretty unusable as I can't make any calls. Nothing happened to my phone to cause this to happen and I'm pretty sure that it wasn't my fault in any way. It cracked from the top right corner of the phone so neither of those things would have taken too significant of a blow when I dropped it six weeks ago. If I go into the apple store and ask them to look at it will they not be able to help me because my screen is broken?

You could always try at the Apple store, the worst that can happen is they say no.
If you have never made backups (to itunes or icloud) that include the photos you want, then there's just no way to get them back (if Apple can't do it).
The "app" you mention that had information, was this an Apple app, like Calendars or Contacts?  If you had the device logged to an icloud account, then all that data would be available for download on a new device.  Otherwise that data is gone unless you had made a backup when the data was still on the phone.

  • Thinkpad X201 - problem with microphone and speakers

    Hi,
My thinkpad X201 is a professional computer set up with Windows XP. Although I cannot check, I am reasonably sure that the computer was installed with the latest drivers and is regularly updated to the latest SP and patches.
My problem is the following: in Volume Control window, when both the general "Volume Control" and "Mic in Volume" are un-muted and maxed-up, a feedback loop quickly builds. When I decrease the volumes of both to a lower values, I can actually hear myself speak with a slight delay. The same phenomenon can be heard if I use the internal mic or if I plug in a microphone.
So, it seems that the (internal or external) mic input is constantly sent to the speakers. This makes any recording with this computer very painful.
Did anybody experience this problem? Is there a solution?
I would greatly appreciate any feedback.
    Thanks

Ok, I've fixed the Radio thing, I installed the Nvida drivers from the Nvida site, and then had to select the aux input twice. Still havn't fixed the Mic issue, any suggestions?
    Thanks!

I would like to ensure that my microphone is turned off/muted during Lync conferences, as I prefer to dial in for audio.  When I click the mute on the microphone/phone icon, a red "X"

Agree with Georg, When you’re connected to a call, use the audio controls to mute, unmute, or change your device. Mute: Click the phone/mic icon to mute your line. When

  • Undo removed Microphone and Speakers devices from ...

I had my audio skype options set to chose from the list of devices in order of the priority I've set. Recently I had some problems with my microphone (sorted out as it was a hardware problem) and I wanted to have a look at the options again. I noticed that no matter what I was dooing (eg plugging or unplugging my headphones from the IO jacks) the same options was chosen by skype :
    -Microphone (Raltek High Definition Audio)
    -Speakers (Raltek High Definition Audio)
And all the rest was shaded gray.
I thought I can remove them and the next time I open skype it will detect again the devices. But this was not the case ! How can I have all the devices back there ?.
Now, the input and output is sorted by raltek I guess, but I cannot figure out exactly how can I controll these. When I plug the headphones, it is taken as IO and when I unplug them the build in IO are taken.
I want the ability to have my headphones plugged (and other devices, eg third party webcam), and choose whenever I want to take the microphone input from my build in laptop or from headphones or from my third party web cam and so on. How can I achieve this?

    Hi Amanda,
    Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp52501-53000/sp52658.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.  Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.

  • Equium A300D - microphone and speakers don't work properly

    I have an annoying problem.
With my sound card on its default driver, I cannot get the microphone (front jack) to pick up anything.
Yet when I upgrade with the latest drivers I then lose the onboard speakers and can only get sound by plugging in external speakers.
    Can anyone help?

    Hi!
I dont understand why the onboard speakers not work with the latest drives.
Did you download the driver from Toshiba?
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers
Furthermore you should check if you have the newest BIOS version. There are two BIOS versions available: One for Vista 64bit and one for Vista 32bit. So choose the right one make the update.

  • Please help: Can't access your microphone and soun...

    Dear all,
I think this question have been surfaced many times, but after searching for answers sometime, I just have to post again.  So bear with me.
    Machine: Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E220s
    Purchase date: October 2011
    Description: Laptop
Audio: Internal Microphone (Conexant 20671 SmartAudio HD)
Speaker: Speakers (Conexant 20671 SmartAudio HD)
                 - In English, that is the internal speaker.
OS: Windows 7 Home Premier 64 bit
    Skype: 5.5.0.124
               - In English, that is the most up to dated version
When I try to call the Echo / Sound Test, after hearing the lady says hello, I see a message box comes up:
Microphone tab has a red exclamation mark.
Speaker tab has a read exclamation mark.
In each tab, there is "Can't access your sound card" message. Sometime I see another small box at the bottom right saying "No microphone detected."
    What I have done
    1) Tools -> Options -> General -> Audio settings
For Microphone and Speakers, I have uncheck the auto adjust settings.
Restart Skype. Do the "Echo / sound test" and same thing. No detection.
    2) Edit AppData\Skype\shared.xml
[ Edit: It seems like the editor here does not like the percent sign before and after the AppData.]
    a) I make sure the line AGC XML tag has a value of zero (0).
    b) I make sure the MicVolume tag is just 100.
Restart Skype. Same thing. Not working.
    3) Test out speaker and microphone in the Skype welcome screen.
    The speaker always works.
The test on microphone works sometime and does not work sometime.
Help please! I have less than 24 hours to make a very important call over Skype!

I solve the issue. After I have updated the system using Lenovo's own software update, the microphone works! I hate it. I think I have run many many times the Windows update but it does not pick up the Lenovo software.
So solution: Always update your computer system software. If it is a laptop, be sure to use it's own software updater!

  • Docked T500 - Switch between headphones and speakers

    Hey guys,
I am using my T500 with an Advanced Mini Dock at work. I keep the headphones (with microphone) plugged into the docking station.
Sometimes I want to listen to the audio on my laptop's speakers rather than inside the headphones. Is there any way I can make this switch without unplugging the jack from the docking station.
I know that above the volume bar for some systems you are able to switch between headphones and speakers and also, up until ~1 month ago I was able to do this from the SmartAudio utility, but now I can't. I can just switch between SPDIF and headphones.
I am using Windows 7 64-bit and I have all the latest drivers and apps that come using the "System Update" utility.
Please let me know if you have a solution for this.
    Thank you,
    Ciprian

I'm pretty sure that the blame for this lies entirely with Microsoft and their stupid hardware-detecting W7 OS. Yes, it actually detects when you unplug the headphones, tells you what you just did, and promptly resets all sorts of things. The most sensible thing you can do (apart from reverting to XP, which doesn't do this) is to plug an external stereo jack to stereo jack socket extension lead, and plug either your headphones or speakers into that instead, whilst leaving the plug end permanently in the laptop. Microsoft can't pull that stupid stunt on an external connector, so you should be okay with that.

  • Microphone and speaker /dev/ entries?

    Dear all,
Which /dev/ entry corresponds to the microphone and which to the speakers?
I suppose there is a more general question which is "How can I find out which driver takes care of a given /dev/ entry?". ls -l gives the major and minor device numbers but how do I turn the major number into something intuitively meaningful?
I'm working on the premise that I can read a chunk of data from /dev/mike whatever that might be and then replay it by writing it to /dev/audio, whatever that might be. Is this accurate? Is there anything I should watch out for? Helpful hints on the format in case I want to convert it to mp3 or some other such format all appreciated.
    Regards, Max

Try to perform a hard reset of the phone (Press and hold the HOME button and the Sleep/wake button until you see the Apple logo).
If that does not fix then Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings. If both these reset options fails then you might have to restore the phone.

  • Toshiba Portege R705-35 Fails to detect video cam and speakers

My Portege R705-P35 laptop has stopped detecting my video cam and speakers. I have updated the system Bios, audio (Realtek) and video drivers and recently reformated to reinstall original settings and drivers.  Nothing has worked.  The device manager does not detect the video cam or the standard speakers.  When I connect my Logitech headset through the USB port it picks up both the headset and the microphone.  Both work fine through Skype and in online videos.
Has anyone else encountered this problem and, if so, figured out the solution?

My Portege R705-P35 laptop has stopped detecting my video cam and speakers. I have....recently reformated to reinstall original settings and drivers...The device manager does not detect the video cam or the standard speakers....
This seems strange for these 2 seperate devices to both fail at the same time. You could also try a proper system reset and see if this helps bring them back.  Power off your system, unplug everything including the AC, remove the battery, press and hold down the power on button for 30 seconds, replace battery and AC, power on, when you see the Toshiba logo press the 'F2' key to enter BIOS Setup, in setup press 'F9' to load setup defaults, press 'F10' to save and exit, boot into Windows, and test your webcam and speakers again.
But, when you say that you "recently reformated to reinstall original settings and drivers", do you mean that you performed a Toshiba Recovery to return your unit to its factory default out-of-the-box setup, as directed starting on page 60 of your User's Guide? This is considered the gold standard test on whether you have an actual hardware problem/failure or not.

  • Microphone and Earphones on Garageband on Macbook Pro

    Hi,
On my old Macbook I would plug in an external microphone to record using Garageband, and also plug in earphones to hear the music in my ears without it being picked up by the microphone.
However, my new Macbook only has one socket. I've read that this socket can be used for both a microphone and earphones - but if I plug my microphone into it, the background music coming from my speakers will surely be picked up by my mic.
    Any advice?
    thanks

Thanks Leonie! As I would like to continue to using my expensive(ish) mic, the USB to line-in solution sounds like what I need!

  • Playing sound from microphone on speakers (through buffer) with constant delay

    Hi,
I'm looking for an example of code that samples signal from microphone and
plays it on speakers. I need a solution that has a resonably constant delay on
different platforms (PC, android, iphone). Delay around 1-2 s is ok for me, and I don't
mind if it varies everytime the application starts.
I tried using SampleDataEvent.SAMPLE_DATA event on Sound and Microphpne classess.
One event would put data into buffer the other would read data.
But it seems impossible to provide constant delay, either the delay grows constantly or
it gets lower to the point where I have less than 2048 samples to put out and Sound class stops
    generating SampleDataEvent.SAMPLE_DATA events.
I wan't to process each incoming frame so using setLoopBack(true) is not an option.
ps This is more a problem on Android devices than on PC. Althought when I start to resize application
window on PC delay starts to grow also.
    Please help.

Most recording applications have a passthrough option so you can listen as you record. It is off by default to avoid feedback if you are using a microphone.

  • In-built microphone and camera problems

    Hello,
I have an HP Pavillion DV7 Notebook, S/N [Edited for Personal Information] and product number QG704EA#B1A, running Win7 Home Premium. Some days ago I was obliged to run the recovery procedure. Everything was going well for some days until I tried to communicate again with Skype and found out that although I was receiving sound and video from the calling persons, they were not able to hear me or see me.
I tried to fix the problem with Skype settings but I am receiving always the messages that my built-in microphone and camera are not found/recognised. I looked at control panel/System and confirmed that CyberLink WebCam Virtual Driver (6.0.5600.0 dated 11/1/2010) and IDT High Definition Audio CODEC (6.10.6329.0 dated 11/3/2011) are working properly. I even uninstalled them and reinstalled using HP Recovery Manager but still no solution.
Could you please give me some advice?
    Thanks in advance
    Matzaridis [Edited for Personal Information]

    Hello gematz.
I see that you're having an issue with mic/camera in skype. I will try to help you with this.
Are you having an issue with these in any other program?
As you've already reinstalled the drivers with Recovery Manager, I would suggest trying to update them next. You can use the HP Support Assistant to do this: Using HP Support Assistant (Windows 7).
If that fails to resolve the issue, then you may want to give the following documents a read through.
No Sound from the Speakers or Headphones (Windows 7) - does provide steps for general sound issues
    Webcam Troubleshooting (Windows 7)
If these are working fine during testing or in other programs, you may want to try uninstalling and reinstalling skype.
Please let me know how this goes for you. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.
I worked on behalf of HP.
