Microphone doesnt work for phone calls

But it does for every other app that needs it, like snapchat voice memo instagram etc..
any ideas on how i can fix this without going in to the apple store and being ripped off?

The hands free mic is the upper mic and should be working fine. Otherwise the logic board is faulty. If you can only perform hands free calls, then the lower mic is faulty. The replacement part is the iPhone charging port with flex cable and lower mic, about $5 part.

Ok so I happened to figure it out while on the phone to apple support. Even though the guy was very nice, I think I knew more than him! He was explaining very basic resolution principles I played about. I had the second option in displays resolution. All I did was unplug the HDMI cable, click on 'best for display' then plugged the HDMI in and my resolution on the normal monitor changed to the normal blue, then went black momentarily and then changed to a strange resolution but another window appeared that said SONY BRAVIA HDMI at the top! Hey presto! Don't know why it didn't do it yesterday - I probably left the HDMI cable in or something! Oh well. Problem solved!

Maybe I understood your problem. Get to Settings > Sounds > Ringers and Alerts >Turn Change With Buttons to Off. And if your Side Switch is assigned to 'Mute', turn it back on, else, use the control center to turn off mute.

  • Ringer Sound doesn't work for phone calls.

I can't get my iPhone 4S sound to work for receiving phone calls.  Sound selected along with vibrate for phone calls.  Miss calls everytime.  Volume turned up and turned on.

    Two things to check
Is the Mute switch ON ?
Do you have Do Not Disturb set ON ?

  • TS1702 I have bought the Recorder apps and now I have realized that it does not work for phone calls in Spain. What can I do?

Does anyone know it the Recorder apps only works in the U.S.? I think I made a mistake buying this to record some phone conversations for work and now I cannot record a phone call to a number in Spain. I mean my phone number is Spanish. Please help. Can you return an app if you are not satisfied?

Sorry, no. The terms state, you buy it, you own it, there are no refunds.

  • Vibrate Mode only works for phone calls -- Solution.

So, I'm sure I'm not the only person who didn't realize that the vibrate mode doesn't turn on vibration for message and app notifications.
I was having an issue where whenever I had the phone on vibrate, I was not getting notified for text messages.
I googled this, and a lot of people had the same issue. Basically, the phone would behave like it was on silent whenever a text message or other notification was recieved.
In order to fix this for text messages/voice mail - open up your messages, hit the menu button, then settings, and verify your preferences for vibration are selected.
Each Vibrate option is under the Recieved Messages, Sent Messages, and Voicemail Notification Settings.
I've noticed that every single app has it's own vibrate setting, so you have to individually go through and change them if you want vibration notifications. I don't believe they will shut off when your phone is on audible (if you're worried about battery life). I think it's only an on or off type of deal.
Anyway, hope this helps. It's given me more than a week of frustration.

Glad you posted this, I'm sure a lot of people have had this issue. Every android I've owned is like this, took me forever to figure it out the first time.

  • Will apple really not fix your phone if youve gotten it fixed by someone who doesnt work for apple even if you pay them?

Did Apple tell you that they won't provide support for a device that has had unauthorized service?

  • Speakers work for phone and other apps, but not for music playback on 4G after downloading ios 8.0.2

I know others are having off the wall issues with sound on their iPhones after installing the iOS 8.0.2...In my case? Thank God the sound for phone calls and alarms work, but the same can't be said for when I try to play music or a radio app?? And the speaker option on my voice mail sticks....
There are 1001 other issues that I have with this so called upgrade, and let's just say that I've been looking at using my AT&T other phone options since I'm ready to upgrade....Since this is the second time in about a year that I've gone through **** and back with an Apple OS upgrade and there just isn't the cache there once was with owning an iPhone? I'm seriously questioning why be brand loyal when I can't find an answer to my issue and the one solution is to go to the Apple Store and deal with the arrogant and rude clerks OR try and see if someone has a decent solution, OR wait for weeks for Apple to offer a bug fix or access to older OS's!
(BTW--I HATE how this OS kills the battery! And I'm not happy with the 2 apps that I didn't want and can't get rid of!)

    I was hoping that the iOS 8.1 update would have fixed my problem, but it has not. The app updates continue to hang and will not up date unless I follow the procedures mentioned earlier. I have spoken to Apple Care, and their only suggestion was to do a network settings reset. This worked once, but on the following days as more app updates appeared, they would not download. Once again, the only way to achieve my goal is to do one of the following;
    Change networks
    Sync through iTunes
    Reset Network Settings
Turn off Wi Fi and use Cellular Data (not my preferred option especially while at home and connected to my home network).
I think Apple are loosing the plot and seem to be chasing profits more than producing a good reliable product. I would have respected the company more if they had admitted that iOS8 was not ready for general release rather than release a faulty system causing so many problems.

  • Bluetooth no longer works for incoming calls after recent update

When I updated my Bluetooth to iOS 6, the Bluetooth no longer works for incoming calls. I press button to answer call, it makes a small cracking noise, and then sends the call to my phone. I can use the Bluetooth for outgoing calls and it works just fine. I was hoping when I updated to iOS 6.0.1 that the problem would be fixed. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Bluetooth but that has not helped either. I am frustrated. I have a LG HBM-905 Bluetooth that I loved prior to this problem.

Magically started working today after I synced.

  • How to set iPhone Bluetooth to be just for phone calls?

Is there a way to setup an iPhone 4s/5, iOS 6, to use the bluetooth only for phone calls?
I don't want music, youtube, google maps, or any app to go thru my car speakers. Phone calls work fine because the car will switch to Bluetooth audio automatically for those. I usually have my car audio set to radio so no apps are audible in the car unless I manually switch the car to Bluetooth Audio but then I can't listen to the radio.

The only way around this, depending on the car system,
is connect the iPhone to the unit via USB.
At least with my Ford SYNC system, I can pair via
Bluetooth and connect the USB and select USB audio
on the Ford unit and in the Music app on the iPhone.
Doing this, all phoner functions go via Bluetooth and
    everything else is over USB.
Perhaps your car system supports something similar
or not.  If it doesn't, there is nothing you can do.

  • After update to OS4.2.1 I can not get the ringer to work for incoming calls

after update to OS4.2.1 I can not get the ringer to work for incoming calls. If I set Vibrate on, that's the only notification I get. Tried everything including blowing away ALL my apps and restoring phone to new. Lost all my apps but the ringer still won't ring

God Bless u! LOL I have an otterbox case on my phone and had no clue that the mute button was there....Thank you so much!! The volume on my movies & everything else worked...even when I would go into "settings" and adjust the volume of the ringtone. I knew it was something simple...Thanks again..

  • Ringer doesn't work for incoming calls

My iPhone 4 ringer won't work for incoming calls. It is not on vibrate only and the ringer works through the earphones when earphones are connected. Any suggestions?

    Thank you so very much.
. Simple yet perplexing.. I bought the waterproof case and had them put it on before leaving the store.. GRANTED, I never read the instructions.. Just knew it must have been something in the way I programmed the phone. I especially loved that you put up an illustration with your explanation.

  • Changing volume for phone calls.

is there any way to change the volume for phone calls besides the outside volume key?? I tried "sounds" in settings and it did not work.

Your volume switches work differently depending on what you are doing. You may get a readout above the "speaker" symbol that appears on the screen telling you what volume is being adjusted.
If you are not using anything, the volume switches adjust the ringer volume.
If you are playing music or video, they adjust the music/video volume.
If your headphone are plugged in, they adjust the headset volume.
If you are actually on a call, the adjust the earpiece volume or speakerphone volume (without a readout).
If you are on a phone call using bluetooth, they adjust the bluetooth volume.
Dial a recording like the National Time Signal (303) 499-7111 and adjust the volume during the call.

If your iPad is still in warranty, show it to an Apple Store Genius.  If the Genius can not fix it, you may get a replacement iPad on the spot.
If your iPad is out of warranty, or there is no Apple Store near you, look for an Apple Authorized Repair Center.  There may be one in your city.  If out of warranty, they should be able to repair the microphone for less than the Apple Store's replacement price.  <Apple Authorized Repair Centers>

  • Headset don't work with phone call

I can't choose my usb headset for phone calls from my mac. Whatever I choose in the system preference or in FaceTime, my mac allways use the build in microphone.

    Hey Deke53,
Thanks for the question, and great troubleshooting so far. Because the issue is intermittent, and can temporarily be fixed with a later reoccurrence, it sounds like a restore of software may be necessary.
You may want to back up your iPhone and restore as new. Once you have setup the iPhone as a new phone, test to see if the issue persists. If it does not, then proceed to restore your backup:
