Microphone in apple earphones isn't working

I just bought a new pair of the Apple earphones with mic and when I use Skype, it doesn't recognize the headphones as an input with a mic.. any suggestions?

The direct analog so-called "Mic" input on most G4s is a line-level input. A regular microphone has a level far too low to be useful unless a pre-amplifier is used.
You could also use a USB input device that may be able to accept a direct microphone input and present it to the Mac as a USB data stream.

Sign out of the Appstore and back in and it should resolve the issue.

Hi! Most probably the side that doesn't sound is broken, I recommend you buying new ones, there are many cheap and good ones on almost every electronic shop. Before, just to be sure, ask a friend for their earphones and just verify the problem is only from your earphones.

Apple Menu isn't working

I can't shut down, restart, force quit - cannot do anything from the apple menu. It will pull down, and I can select, but once I do, nothing happens...
At the time, I had iMovie, iPhoto, and other apps open, and things were moving slowly, so I thought I'd quit everything and restart... also, I noticed I had no sound (which is now back). Thanks...

Actually, everything in the apple menu seems to work EXCEPT "About this Mac", "Force Quit" "Restart" and "Shut Down" (haven't tried Sleep yet, too scared)

My microphone line-in jack isn't working.

I want to use an external microphone for online gaming conversations. I have a headset with both mic and earphones. I can hook the earphone jack up and can hear fine, however when i hook the microphone jack i can't get it to work.
Yes, i have gone into system preferences/sound/input and selected the line-in tab. Nothing is letting me use an external mic. (although the internal mic works fine)
The funny thing is, when i boot into Windows XP, i can use the headset perfectly fine, both microphone and headphones.
What's the deal?

The last line may indicate the problem, also I found somewhere some mic's need their own power source. Look around on the Apple site it gives that information also.

I have an iPhone 5 and the new-style proper apple earphones will not work in it. Other cheaper earphones will but they are awful, and I have tried the apple ones in other phones and apple devices and they work fine as earphones, so why not in my iPhone?

so basically the official apple headphones work in other iPads, iPhones and computers but they won't work in my iPhone 5. So does this mean there is an issue with my jack? But why do any other alternative earphones work and it's just the apple ones which don't? I'm a little confused and really I'd like the proper ones to work because they produce the best quality sound. Help please!

Could be a contact problem. There are certain places inside the headset port where proper contact is needed for the various functions the Apple headset has, for example the Remote/microphone unit that cheaper headphones don't have.
You should have your phone checked by an Authorized Apple Service provider or by visiting an Apple Store next to your place.

Remote on apple earphones doesn't work with iPod Touch 4G :(

Hi I have two in-ear earphones, the Apple one and the V-Moda RRMT, the one with the remote similar to Apple's. I've heard volume control works with iPhone 3GS, and have tried both earphones in iPad and they both work. Recently I bought an iPod Touch 4 and found that the volume control of Apple works while V-Moda's doesn't. Since both earphones (presumably) uses the same tech to control the volume, my current thinking is there may just be a problem with the way I'm plugging in the V-Moda earphone. I've tried reseating it several times and I still haven't been able to resolve this issue.
After scouring the google and the v-moda site, I still couldn't find any definitive confirmation that iPod Touch 4 doesn't support V-Moda's volume control. I'd like to know if V-Moda's volume control is compatible with iPod Touch 4 or not, and also the possible reasons why they don't work together.
I was looking at the earphone jack earlier and I found that regular earphone jacks only have 2 bands, while earphones that connect to iOS devices have 3 bands, so I'm guessing the 3rd band is what Apple uses for all of the extra functionalities such as Mic, Play-Pause-Talk, and Volume Control. Upon further inspection I saw that the 3rd band is not wholly covered in iPod Touch 4, could it be that the input signal coming from the V-Moda remote isn't strong enough to be received by the earphone jack of iPod touch because it doesn't fully encircle the third band? Any clarification on this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried turning your iPod off and back on? My son wasn't able to see the AirPlay icon until he did that. He has a 4G Touch and I have a 3G, but we still don't have AirPlay working correctly. It connects and disconnects randomly, but we are able to see the icon most of the time.

Left earphone isn't working

I pulled my left earphone in hurry and it suddenly stopped working.
I know I didn't pull it that badly but just a jerk.
My iPod touch is okay coz it's playing audio with other speakers and it isn't dropped.

i had the same problem left ear piece wasnt working drove me mad tried every thing . i went to settings ..general.. accessibility ..mono audio.. turn it on...dont ask me why when you turn on mono both sides of ear phones work. i think the soft ware is set up in reverse, worked for me

I would try connecting it to another tv to see if it works there if it does
then likely your tv can't handle the default resolution and you should lower it on the other tv
if not then you should connect it by usb to the computer and use itunes to restore it's firmware

Apple Mail still not working

Since downloading the OS X Yosemite upgrade Apple Mail isn't working. I think there's a major bug.
It hangs and won't respond. Can't access the Mail menu bar commands to make any changes. It crashes. It isn't displaying email content. And, quite oddly, the message viewer window is doing a "punch through" and revealing what's displayed on the desktop behind it.
I see many similar complaints about Apple Mail in these forums. I contacted Apple to see if the issues could be resolved - They acted like they haven't heard anything about Apple Mail problems. They had me re-install Yosemite. Same Apple Mail issues still exists. This is a disaster for those of us who use Apple MAil in our business communications. APPLE HELP!
Does anyone know of a solid work-around, a patch or alternate?
