Microphone in noisy places

HI,
I would like to know what is the best/cheapest microphone or type of microphone to be used in noisy places.  As well as possible I don't want that the other person to listen to the noise of the place where I am.

I googled it, frankly all you need is one that is noise cancelling if it's continuous and directional so it only picks up your voice. Pick whichever one looks best for you, unless you go into specifics as to the exact environment it's very difficult to determine what you woudl need!

  • What is the new hole on the face of the iPhone 4S for?

Above the screen of an iPhone 4 you find a long horizontal hole used as a speaker to place next to your ear.  The iPhone 4S has an additional horizontal hole above the "ear speaker".  What is this new hole for?
Wild guess..  A second microphone for noise cancellation (so Siri or the person you are speaking to can hear better in a noisy place)?
In any case.. (a pun) you might want to avoid buying an iPhone screen film cover that doesn't have the new cutout for the new hole

I don't see a "hole" on the black iPhone 4s images on the Apple web site. Best guess is that this is not a hole but a sensor of some kind (proximity, light level, whatever). I don't expect a screen shield to significantly impact it's functionality.

  • HT1688 Voice is not working.  I can hear, but others cannot hear me

My voice has slowly deteriorated.  Now, I can hear callers, but they can't hear me.  Any suggestions?

Cover the secondary microphones wherever they are in that phone (next to the earpiece?) if that phone has noise reduction feature.
Check my other posts about iphone 5 considering your voice as noise when the phone is not STUCK to your ear, because your voice is received through BOTH microphones (yes, Apple dictated that if you want to move the phone away your ear just 2 inches (lots of times), you should push the "speaker" button to prevent the noise reduction muting your own voice, rather than just manually activating it the few times you actually want to speak from a noisy place)

  • 6300 and an indicator that is not described in the...

    Hi
I have the Nokia 6300 and the day after I got the phone a symbol/indicator turned up on my display screen and no body knows what it is. The manual tells nothing. It kind of looks like a printer in fact its a square on top of a rectangle. It only appears on the display screen when you go into the menu it disappears.
Can anyone help its annoying and the orange shop say this is the second phone they've seen with the symbol and they don't know what it is.

If you are talking about the yellow line symbol, this means that you have the voice clarity feature switched on - this is supposed to reduce background noise whilst making calls in crowded or noisy places.
To switch it off, Menu > Settings > Call > Voice Clarity > Inactive

  • Volume too low on ringer and with hands-free headsets

Both the ringer's volume and the volume within headsets are too low in my new Droid X. When holding it to my ear while talking it is loud enough well below max volume, but hearing people through headsets while driving is often too low with all volumes set to max (on loud freeways, for example). I usually keep my phone's ringer on silent vibrate, but it would be nice to be able to turn it up louder when the phone is sitting on a desk at home. Cell phone ringers can be obnoxiously loud, but there are times when people need to have them turned up.
Because it is an issue in both the ringer speaker and the jack for wired headsets, it seems like there is a good chance of getting a software fix to raise the max volume levels. Reading posts on forums, it seems clear that this problem is widespread in most, if not all, Droid X devises.
If you are having similar problems, please take a moment to call both Verizon and Motorola with a polite report of the issue. I spoke with both today and they said they were aware of the issue, and the tech at Motorola said they were "looking into" a software fix for it. If enough people call and report it, we have a better chance of getting a fix sometime soon.
    Verizon's support line is: (800) 922-0204.
Motorola's is: (800) 734-5870 (I chose #6 for "other issues" a couple of times after routing into Droid support to get a live tech)
It can be frustrating to filter through the support systems and report it, especially if they tell you to try obvious things like rebooting the phone and turning the volume up, but it really is the only way to get them to fix this issue. Both techs I spoke with actually looked in their systems right away and acknowledged the issue is being reported by people.
Of course, if anyone has a real solution to this issue, please let us know what it is!

Thanks for the suggestion JKramer. I should have been more clear about having adjusted all volumes up in the settings screen. Assuming all sound options are located within the "Settings --> Sound & Display" screen, then yes, I have tried changing them. I have also tried changing the option to "use incoming call volume for notifications" under the "ringer volume" settings, after reading that someone had success in improving volume that way.
This issue is not a problem all of the time. It is only an issue when there is an elevated level of background noise, such as driving on the freeway, or having music or a movie playing in the room.
The phone is otherwise excellent! I live and commute in areas of very spotty reception (with all cell providers), and this phone will keep calls and not even have voices garble where my past two phones have consistently dropped calls in at least five problem locations. So far, everything else about it seems to work great!
Maybe some of these phones don't have this issue. Or, maybe the people who say they don't encounter the problem are lucky enough to live in relatively quite environments most of the time. In a quiet house or office, it is certainly loud enough. It just needs to have the option for increased volume when in noisy places. The issue is that its "max volume" settings are not as loud as with other phones.

  • Value too low on report client session on the WCS

    Hello,
I'm trying to generate a report on the WCS through the menu:
Reports > Report Launch Pad> Client >Client Sessions > Client Sessions Report Details
Moreover for the report I customize it adding the Tx (bytes) and the Rx (bytes) column.
My problem is that the result of the report has some very low values.
    For example:
    Session   Duration
    Avg. Session Throughput (Kbps)
    Protocol
    Policy Type
    Tx (bytes)
    Rx (bytes)
    24 min 59 sec

  • Volume too low on 6300, and listening to podcasts

I believe this question has been asked so many times, but is there ANY way to make the allowable volume any higher on headsets? I'd like to listen to music while riding my bicycle and even the sound of the damn tires on the road is louder than the max volume settings.
Only workaround I found is to use a custom equalizer and bump up all frequency bands. Sound then kinda sucks.
Last, I tried listening to podcasts, but the audio playing interface is a joke: try fast forwarding into a 20 min podcast ... you can't! The fast forward button moves 6s forward every 2s. Oh that's fast! NOT!
I wonder how Nokia believes they can ever displace Apple's iPod if they can't even get the most BASIC function right. For frak's sake, my 30 year old cassette Walkman does fast forward right!
I'm FACEPALMing just thinking about those Nokia suits at the next marketing meeting, scheming on how they're going to take over the world of MP3 players and all that, but little do they know that their l33t engineers can't even do FF right!

  • Xperia Ray after ICS 4.0.3

    Hi!
Yesterday I connected my RAY to PC companion for some backup, and notice that the new Android version 4.0.3. was available.
I was expecting it, since we always like to have the latest features on our phones, so I did the update to the new version.
The update went ok! No issues during the process.
Few hour past since the update process and I already went from a great feeling of having a "new" RAY to the terrible feeling of wishing not to made the update. I believe that this is the worst feeling that  a costumer can feel about having a new release for its great phone.
My RAY went from a great tool to a malfunction piece of high end technology.
So I would like to share here, some of the "after ICS" issues I'm experiencing:
1 - RING TONE VOLUME CONTROL:
The ring tone volume control is now terrible. I'm not able to really low the volume. The volume goes lower from the top to the mute state, but the high is really high and the low is like middle in the previous 2.3. The level after mute, that should be lower and discreet is now very audible in a moderate noisy place, so I'm just using mute + vibe. Is its really bad. I test it with Audio Manager Pro, and different sound as ring tone, but I did not get any positive result. The volume control behaviour is OK for media and alerts sounds.
    2 - WIFI:
Wifi is now a feature that i can't get it to work. All my previous stored Wifi hotspots are now dead, even after edit each one.
I try to store the same hotspots from a fresh search and I still can't get them to work. All the Wifi spots I have stored are working perfectly and no setting was changed, so the issue I'm getting is from the RAY.
    3- GALLERY (now XPERIA GALERIA):
The gallery crashes very often, mostly on landscape position and during swipe trough photos. After the update, I can only see 4 to 6 photos of each album before it crashes and returns to gallery root folder or phone main menu.
    4 - MULTIMEDIA shortcuts widget:
There is a problem with the MULTIMEDIA shortcuts widget, since it almost doubled the space it takes on the screen. Actually the visual size of this widget is just fine, the problem is the area around it that is oversized.
    5 - THE PHONE:
Making or answering a call is now a trouble... and this is the major purpose of this equipment...
The phone freezes very often while receiving a call and takes too long (sometimes more than 10 second) to open the phone feature. Sometimes it crashes while trying to open the phone feature and there's is the need to take battery out (since yesterday... happen twice).
    6- OVERALL
The new android version for this model is pretty, but there are several issues to be solved. Along with the ones I believe are really serious, I'm experiencing a great decrease in phone performance. Screen animations between pages and menus are now almost imperceptible and the ones that still exist are not fluid (jumps, like a low frame rate on a video footage), moving from a page to another is now slower and jumpy and feels like I own a first generation Android phone with low tech capabilities. Scrolling is now different too. It is slower, and the acceleration is not so great like in previous 2.3
    7- MEMORY
The available RAM is now lower than when I had 2.3... and i did not have more apps working... at least I did not start them. So he new 4.0 must gave some more processes running, I believe.
8 - SCREEN FLASHES RED AND GREEN (added on April 27)
RecentlyI found another "not so bad, but annoying issue".
Sometimes, the screen flashes fully red or green for a second, during:
Menus swipes, camera access, skype camera change (from rear to front and vice versa), when Draw something app loads, and browser opens...
So, here is my "less than 24hours" Xperia"ence" with the ICS for RAY... Not happy with it and looking forward to see it solved, or to roll it back to 2.3.
If there is no visible solution for this and many other issues, this will probably be my last SE phone, from a long and solid history with this brand.
Kind regards and best wishes  to everyone.
    Bruno

    Hi ply17410,
Thank you very much for your contribution!
The RAY I own is the ST18i purchased as a standalone mobile, no carrier dependant.
I'm using a portuguese Vodafone SIM card and these are my RAY's unit versions:
    Phone software version: 1248-9545_4.1.A.0.562,
    Boot version: 1241-3656 R9A028,
    Customization version: 1252-0929_R20D
    File system version: WORLD-i_4.1.A.0.562
No SIM lock applied, and bootloader unlock allowed.
The wifi issue is getting worst, right now I can only access web via 3G data connection.
Bluetooth works fine for audio and data transfer.
Today I found another "not so bad, but annoying issue".

  • Nokia 301 Feature Request: Missed calls/messages n...

    Hi,
I just bought a Nokia 301 dual sim phone. I'm satisfied with it except one thing - IT DOESN"T HAVE MISSED CALLS/MESSAGES NOTIFICATION. How come such important and basic function not implemented? No one will check his phone regularly and there is no way to know wether I have missed calls or messages. It should keep making a beep until I read it. I believe this function could be implemented easily in software, even by polling the status at a constant interval or setting up a counter which issues interrupts. Any Nokia staff can answer this questtion?
    Thanks.
    Leonard

This is a feature which the majority of phone users do not want, and that's why Nokia phones have not done it since the early 2000s when Nokia phones used to beep the morse code for SMS.
There are two primary reasons why a person might not read a message at the time it comes in:
He didn't hear it, maybe he was in a noisy place and didn't hear or maybe the phone is in a different room.
He heard it but was prevented from reacting by other circumstances.
If you are away from your phone, there are visual cues when you get back to it that a message has come in. If you are walking down a busy street with your phone in your pocket, there is also in the vast majority of phones a vibrate option to give an alternative kind of notification. If you are driving a car responsibly on a journey of some length, it would becoming annoying after a while if your phone was beeping in your briefcase in the back of the car, or if you leave your phone on your desk at the office whilst you are elsewhere, the repeated beeping could be just as annoying to other people.

  • 6300 and Bluetooth handsfree problem

I experience this problem with my 6300 and the BH-700 bluetooth handsfree : When the person on the other end talks my mic gets muted and he can't hear me. Ofcourse this also happens if the other end is at a noisy place and then communication is impossible since my mic is always muted.
This seems like a problem of the phone since it happens with any bt-handsfree. On the other hand the BH-700 works fine with all other phones I tried...
I upgraded my phone firmware from 4.7 to 5.0 but the problem still remains. I don't want to think that the hardware implementation of the 6300's bluetooth and simultaneously send and receive data!
Anyone this problem? Any possible solutions?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
I have simillar problem with BT handsfree - the other side has difficulty hearing me, while I can hear fine.
Do you have any further experience or solution?

  • Mac pro- 8 core clicking noise

Hi guys - just need some advice on something.
    I bought a mac pro 8 core -
    Model Name:          Mac Pro
    Model Identifier:          MacPro5,1
    Processor Name:          Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Processor Speed:          2.4 GHz
    Number Of Processors:          2
Exactly a week ago (5th of nov).
Since using it (mainly using it for video editing).. im in a quiet room for some reason its clicking alot.. not sure how to describe the clicking but its like a tap dripping noise.. Im not sure if theres anything wrong with it??
This happens even when im not using the computer, i thought perhaps ill get used to it.. im forcing myself to get used to be it to be honest.. its starting to get very annoying especially when it does it every 10-15 seconds even when im not using any progams!
basically just clicks when its on... i find it very hard to do my video editing and find it very distracting.
So on the 14th nov i brought it to mac genius bar they opened it up and they said "nothing is wrong from what they can see" - they couldnt hear any noise obviosuly because the apple store is a noisy place. They said make sure you put it on a table etc etc all the standard results.
Brought it back home now.. its been exactly a week of use and im starting to hate it.. I dont know what to do its only been a week.. is it possible for me to go back there and since its only been a week ask for a completely new one as im not happy with it?
I know that if i go back to genius bar its just going to keep going on and on so was wondering if asking for a new one since its only been a week old possible?

  • Nokia 3600 Slide ringing volume low

Whenever i choose the ringing tone from my list with mp3's and i get the 'preview' of the song, the volume is great, is loud so i can hear it (the phone has a speaker on the back). And also i can hear the mp3 loud when i play it with my media player.
But when someone calls me, the volume is lower than what i heart during the preview (the ringing tone is set to max), it also starts sort of ascending even if the ascending tone option is not activated. (it starts by using his regular (don't know where it is) speaker, then moves on that big speaker from the back that i was telling about).
I realise that this might be just the way the phone works but i thought maybe i can somehow make the ringing tone as loud as when i play files with my media player.
I honestly can't hear the phone when i'm in a louder area or when i'm sleeping. Any ideas?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Most recent Nokia phones will automatically be in "ascending mode" if you choose the very highest volume (meaning that the ring will begin quiet and increase to maximum).
If you are not hearing your tone well enough choose the second highest volume setting so that it starts at the set volume instead of working up to it? Also, the choice of tone is also important - if you are often in noisy places or carry your phone in a pocket or bag, then you may need to ignore personal favourites like the tune you first danced to wit your partner and just go for something noticably loud from the first note.

  • 8330's AUDIO BOOST DOESN'T BOOST

I have a two-week old 8330 CURVE from BELL MOBILITY.  When using the media player -- music, video, etc. -- I can toggle the audio boost feature on/off with ZERO perceptible increase/decrease in the speakerphone or earbud audio level.
A friend's 8310 (from rogers) boost is very, very, perceptible.
    I went back to the store, gave them my microSD, and got the same no-boost result on a new/different 8330;
Called BM tech support and he tested a unit there with same no-boost result.
Tech checked with his escalation desk and they said that's the way RIM set it up for the 8330s.
Is it that the 8330 being CDMA, which is intrinsically harder on the battery, is audio limited in favor of OEM battery performance (or the appearance of sufficiency)?
    What's up?
How do I get my boost to boost.  The levels are a tide too low when listening while in noisier places.
     Thanks,

Make sure when you go to play it that you turn the Shuffle on to linear play, not Shuffle play. Audiobooks won't play when it is set to shuffle.

  • The rubber things for Apple In-Ear Headphones (need new)

    Hey
I lost the rubber thing on one of the ear pieces and I have small ears... apparently... because medium and large don't fit.
Medium almost fit, but they are borderline uncomfortable.
I use them every day to and from work
(and when I travel, when I can't sleep, when I want to sleep - in new places or noisy places, when I read, when I run, to and from the gym and sometimes brushing my teeth)
    - I use them a lot, and they are pretty new so it really *****.
Can I buy new ones? I live in Denmark, so preferably in that general area.

the headphones have the same warrenty as an iphone or ipad or imac

  • Having problems with playback being quiet after burning to CD

    Hey everyone..
OK... this is a weird one... well im hoping its an easy one and im just missing something.
OK so i edit music together for a dnace group so ts basically blending songs together using MP3's. Once finished i create a mixdown and burn to CD.
The problems occurs when we perform at venues with big sound systems :It just plays back quiet when everyone else music is fine :S but when we play it on a normal to medium size system its fine.
Please help as its so frustration.
    Thank you in advance

This could well be one of the few genuine examples of "everyone is out of step but me".
There is a tendancy these days to burn CDs at the hottest possible level and also to over compress the music so it has little or no dynamics (and very little "life) left.  I suspect the other CDs are burned like this.  On a controlled system, your versions probably sound fine but compared to the over-hot, over-compressed stuff, yours sounds quieter.
That said, theatre venues can be remarkably noisy places for playback.  A shuffling, coughing audience, air handling, candy wrappers and (nowadays) the scourge of moving lights can mean you compete with a lot of background noise.
My main involvement in sound is for live theatre work so I prepare a lot of CDs for playback. When that's the only use I'm going to have for the CDs, I tend to put in higher levels and more compression than I would for normal listening.  However, I tend to do this "by eye and ear" rather than using an automatic compressor.  My method would be:  (look away, Steve G...I'm going to mention hard limiting.)
    1.  Prepare my track in the normal way.
    2.  Normalise to -.1dB.
    3.  Examine the Audition display of the whole track.  Generally, there will be a few transient peaks that represent the highest level with most of the track being a few dB lower.  I note the level of the highest "general" part of the track.
    4.  In Edit View, I use Effects/Amplitiude/Hard Limiting to hard limit the track to -.1dB and I  use the "Boost input by ____ dB" to raise the signal so the "general" level is now the maximum.
Obviously this requires a bit of a judgement call do decide what you consider the "general" level.  However, with a bit of practice you can get you levels as high as possible without killing all the dynamics.
The other thing to say is this only works if all your tracks are reasonably similar.  If, since you're putting together a medley of different tracks, there are huge differences to start with, you should even these out during the mix process.
    Hope this helps.
    Bob
