Microphone issue on Equium A210-1AS

I recently purchased the A210-1as
I have tried to get sound from my microphone to no avail. I've tried all possible settings - a bit of a techie myself but still no joy
any helpers?
Thanks
Paul

First of all you should update the sound driver.
Check the Toshiba driver page for new versions.
Secondly you should access the control panel and should check the sound settings.
In the new windows you should choose the tab called Recording and there you could choose you external microphone.
You can also configure it as you want.
In the control panel you will find also the voice/speech recognition settings. This setting contains the mic configuration too.
Go trough the single options and check if something was disabled.

  • Re: Downgrading Equium A210-1AS from Vista to WIN XP

I have a fully functioning desktop and a barely working Equium A210-1AS I have Avanquest Fix-It 10 working well on the desktop. I installed Fix-It 10 on the Equium and after a day or so the computer crashed. It would boot and after endless restore operations and uninstalling a not-needed program and Fix-It 10 the computer is sort of working with a peculiar message. I was too mean to pay an extra 30 for a recovery disk for the Equius which has Vista Home OS. Now it so happens that I have a genuine OEM CD of WIN XP in my possesion. I bought it and used it on a desktop that I eventually took to the Council rubbish dump when it stopped working.
Can I create a CD with all the XP drivers downloaded from the Internet then just boot up with the WIN XP disk then insert the drivers CD?
I believe I could activate WIN XP by telephone and explanation. Would this work and what would the difficulties be? I do not need to save any data.
BTW I like XP and dont like Vista!
    Thanks for any help,

I have another problem. When I use the other link supplied by Jeka-IL to the Toshiba website concerning an AHCI driver, and I went to Device Manager to find out which chipset I had the result was nothing like the example given by Toshiba. What I saw was as follows:
    IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers
    IDE Channel
    IDE Channel
    IDE Channel
    Ricoh Memory Stick Controller
    Ricoh SD/MMC Host Controller
    Ricoh xD Picture Card Controller
Standard Dual Channel PC IDE Controller
Standard Dual Channel PC IDE Controller
    IEEE 1394 Bus host contollers
    Etc
    etc
The processor is an AMD Turion 64 x 2 Mobile Technology TL-60 2.00 GHz
This I am sure is a processor that could operate 64bit but is currently operating Vista 32bit

  • Re: Equium A210-1AS - Blue screen and can't start it

My computer was working fine, i shut it down, the next time i start up it shows the windows loading screen, then for a second a blue screen flashes by, it restarts and repeats, i shut it down and started tapping F8 untill the advanced boot options comes up, safemode ect... none of them work and all lead to the blue screen, if i select the repair option at the top "Repair Your Computer" it begins to load with a vista background and cursor and then shows the error "The installed program cannot start. click OK to turn off the computer."
in Advanced Boot Options i try "Disable automatic restart on system failure" and the blue screen stays up so i can see it, it shows a usual blue screen error, reading:
    UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME
    STOP: 0X000000ED (0X85DDA600, 0XC000009C, 0X0000000, 0X0000000)
I do not have a recovery CD as i believe there is a recovery partition, but i don't know how to access this-
    I am using Equium A210-1AS
    Part Number : PSAFJE-005005KS
    Windows vista 32bit
    Thanks,
I know know the recovery partition is accessed theough "Repare your computer" but just shows "The installed program cannot start. click OK to turn off the computer." :/

    Hello
In my opinion the case is clear: If you cant start the HDDrecovery feature (btw, its not a recovery partition!!!) using Repair my Computer option, you need the Toshiba recovery disk to reinstall it and get factory settings back.
Im wondering that you dont have a recovery disk. You didnt create it? So you didnt read the user manual but this should always be done before you do something with computers.
Anyway, you can order a new recovery disk here:

  • Equium A210-1AS: Windows BootManager Status unexpectedI/Oerror has occurred

Hi everyone, I'm really hoping someone out there can help me today!
My daughter is in the middle of her GCSE Exams and has a problem with her Equium A210 - 1AS.
It was working fine until last night and now all she gets when booting up is:
    "Windows BootManager screen
Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer.
Thiserror can be caused by unplugging a removable storage device such as an external USB Drive while the device is in use, or by faulty hardware such as a hard drive or CD Rom drive that is failing.
Make sure any removable storage is properly connected and then restart your computer.
If you continue to receive this error message, contact the hardware manufacturer.
    File: \Boot\BCD
Info: An unexpected I/O error has occurred.
    ENTER=Continue"
She tells me she had her web cam plugged in and tried rebooting and replugging that in but this has not resolved the problem.
Can anyone out there help me please as we are desparate to get to work on her pc!
    Many thanks if you can.

    > Toshiba has lost any future business from me, and the many others I have read about in various forums.
Sorry to hear this but I don't know why you think so. Fact is that Toshiba and any other notebook manufacturer has specific rules how all this works. In the whole story problem is that you, and many other people you found in Internet, are not familiar with all this and you build your opinion based on your interpretation. Unfortunately it is far away from reality.
When you bought your notebook you were obligated to create recovery DVD and use it for further OS installation. This was described in Toshiba reminder with clear instruction how to do this.
When you buy Microsoft installation disc and loose it you will not get new one for free although you have bill and evidence you bought it on regular way.
As I can see you have your opinion about all this and I don't want to disturb you anymore.
    Good luck.

  • Equium A210-1AS - After BIOS update it becomes hot

Hey, wondering if anyone can help here ...
Currently have a Toshiba Equium A210-1AS with BIOS version 1.80 ver 1.00PARTTBL 4/8/2008.
Since the BIOS was updated some time ago to this version 1.80 the computer has become hot very quickly and therefore performance of the laptop has decreased.
I looked on the Toshiba support site and the only version upgrade to 2.00 was not compatible with this notebook.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. The short model number is PSAFJE
    Thankyou

    Hi
I have checked the Toshiba website and I didnt see any BIOS update for the Equium A210 PSAFJE. That means a BIOS update was never released for this notebook normally.
For me it sounds like that you have updated the BIOS with a version for another Equium A210. So you should go to an authorized service provider. The technicians can install the right BIOS version for you (downgrade).

  • Wireless LAN Driver for Equium A210-1AS

    Hi
The Toshiba TEMPO system alerted me to a Wireless LAN Vista driver update for my Equium A210-1AS. I've downloaded it, but it's an Atheros driver, whereas the wireless connection properties show the wireless device to be a Realtek RTL8187B device, driver RTL8187B.sys.
It's not exactly obvious why an Atheros driver would be relevant.
    Any suggestions?

Reverse the Atheros WLan driver installation and use the preinstalled one.
I agree with Mores. Dont update anything if your notebook runs great.
By the way; some A210 notebook were equipped with the Atheros WLan card and therefore you have received such update.
I think you should take a look firstly on your notebook before doing any updates

  • Microphone issue on Equium M70 - I hear myself

    Hi,
I'm sure that easy to fix my problem, but I just cant figure it out...
So, the problem is, as soon as I plug a microphone into the front mic outlet, I will hear myself in the speakers...
    Could anybody help me out?
    Please!!
    Thanks a million!
    Karoly

    Hi
I agree with redhawk. The microphone works properly. This is only a setting issue.
Go the control panel-Sound & Audio devices- Advanced button.
Mark on in the volume control window the microphone mute option. Furthermore you can choose the Mic Boost in the Playback Advanced settings

  • Equium A210-1AS wont boot from a CD

I posted before about the UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME blue screen and have now decided to restore the computer.
I can not access the recovery HDD.
I have created a windows recovery disc my self and have changed the BIOS order to CD first and after the Toshiba screen it goes to a black screen with a blinking cursor (_) and i can hear the disc moving, then switches back to windows (leading to the blue screen).
I also tried creating a Live CD of SLAX so i could see if it would boot on that and could retrieve files but does the same black screen with cursor.
I am going to order a recovery CD from Toshiba, if my other 2 CD's don't work, will the Toshiba one work?
    Thanks.

    Hi
Hmm the Toshiba recovery disk (which you created) should contain the SATA drivers already so you dont need to switch the SATA mode to compatible
But I think you should try it
Go to BIOS and set SATA mode from AHCI to compatible
Then you should try to boot from the recover disk again
If this will not help and if you would not be able to recover the unit from the HDD using HDD recovery procedure then you should check if the recovery disk from Toshiba would help you
If this will not help, then an hardware fault is possible!

  • Re: Equium A210-1AS - picture rolls on start up

My picture rolls (much like a vhs video tape) on start up. It continues for anything between 30 minutes to an hour before settling down.
I reinstalled Windows and it was fine for a week before reverting to form.
    Any advice?

Can you please test it with external monitor?
It will be interesting to know if this problem occurs on external monitor

  • Sticky Keys after sticky fluid has been spilled on Equium A210-1AS

    Hi,
I accidently spilt some sticky fluid on my keyboard.
Luckily, I managed to dry it out and its ok, but my O, P, K, L, ;, 0 keys are really sticky undearneath.
I was wondering if it is easy to remove the keys to clean them.
Are they easily removed and put back?
    Thanks,
    Lisa

    Hi
You can remove only the key caps.
The key caps can be removed easily you need an thin object and can lever the cap from the bracket.
But do this carefully to ensure that the bracket would not break.

  • Suddenly black display on Equium A210-17i

The screen on my Equium A210-17i sometimes just goes completely black, although still backlit. This usually occurs after the computer has been on for a fairly long period of time (tonight after 3 hours) when in use.
When it happened tonight I was just browsing the internet. It has happened several times before, and the only way of getting anything back is to turn the computer off with the power button. My friend who also has the same laptop also experiences the same problem, and although it only happens approximately once a week, it is still annoying. Any solutions?

Well my recently new Equium A210-1AS would randomly go to a black screen (backlight still lit ...but no HDD activity) at least 2 or 3 times every day, leaving me with no option other than to press and hold the power button and restart.
I read several references to this fault on other forums that mentioned things like changing the power settings etc ...this made no difference at all.
The store from which I bought the laptop were less than helpful and blamed software that I'd installed on the laptop (even though I recovered the laptop back to factory settings and left it to run... it still crashed daily... they then told me to wait for Vista SP1.
Then Toshiba's "Tempo" software updates alerted me to the latest BIOS update, which I duly installed (now version 1.70) and (touch wood!) I've not had a crash since.
N.B After the BIOS update has been done and the laptop restarts you may get a checksum error... just press F1 for default settings.
I now rest easy in my bed at night :)
Here's the link that brought it to my attention...

  • Equium A210-1C4 not recognizing optical disk drive

I have a Equium A210-1C4 which will not recognise the odd.
The drive has power and spins disks but does not appear as a drive in MY COMPUTER.
It also is not recognised in the Bios.
I have updated the Bios and tried to install the firmware but get message that the drive is not found.
I have tried is in another computer and it works fine.
Has anyone had similar problems and is there a solution?
    Many thanks

    > I have tried is in another computer and it works fine.
You have tested optical disc drive in other computer?
Anyway, if the ODD is not recognized in BIOS Im afraid ODD controller is defective. It is mainboard issue so there is no some kind of easy solution.
I don't think you can do much about that except to exchange the mainboard.

  • Equium A210 - CMOS battery replacement possible?

My Toshiba Equium A210-1C4 appears to be having a CMOS battery problem in that it does not keep the BIOS settings.
I have bought a replacement main power battery and a/c adapter to rule out a/c power issues but the POST beaps and CMOS keeps coming up a Checksum error and once in the BIOS and save settings it boots successfully but if the laptop restarts or is switched off it does it all over again. I have also updated the BIOS successfully so it is not the BIOS chip. The only thing I can think of is replacing the CMOS battery - can this be done?
I have read that some are soldered on? Would Toshiba service this laptop to replace the CMOS battery / check for faults - if so, how much would it cost, or can someone else do it as the laptop is out of warranty.
    Any advice please?

    Hi Emases2010,
As far as I know some batteries are fixed/soldered on mainboard and cant replace but I think only a notebook technician can give you a detailed answer.
Normally you can charge the CMOS battery if you leave the AC/DC adaptor connected over night or in best case 24 hours. After this the battery should be fully charged.
    Check this!!!

  • Equium A210-171 - Vista Resume Failure

Equium A210-171 running Windows Vista Home 32-bit.
On Boot, I get Windows resume loader screen indicating error and asking to select either 'continue with system resume' or 'delete restoration data and proceed to system boot menu'. BUT keyboard will not respond (not even to select caps lock). Have to turn off at switch to restart.
Any key press after Toshiba boot splash screen produces a blank screen (even f8 and other function keys).
Tried default BIOS settings to no effect.
This problem occurred a couple of months ago and was resolved by wiping Hard disk and putting on a new copy of windows from a Vista CD. Now it is back again - cannot keep starting from scratch!

Have managed to recover normal Windows boot, by removing the hard disk, connecting it to another machine and renamed then deleted the hibernate file.
The hard disk checks out ok on testing, but there does not seem to be any reference to SMART support in this BIOS. It seems that windows or power failure during hibernate was the source of the Hibernate issue
However the problem with the keyboard still remains Any key-press between the end of the Toshiba splash screen and the opening of the operating system freezes the machine, and an external USB keyboard is similarly affected.
Hence it is not possible to use F8 to select windows repair options, and it is not possible to Boot from a DVD/CD if that boot operation requires press enter to boot from DVD as does the Windows install DVD or Anti-Virus boot CDs.
When this happened before, the BIOS was upgraded to ensure that a corrupt BIOS was not the source of the problem. However, the Toshiba BIOS upgrade software prevents reinstallation of the same or older version of the BIOS. So, as there has been no upgrade since version 2.0, BIOS replacement is not an option - BAD software design by Toshiba!!!
Any Ideas to clear this problem?
