Microphone "not plugged in"

I bought this laptop two days ago, and I cannot get the INTERNAL microphone to work. I went to my device manager under Sound and found that the device is enabled but "not plugged in." I tried disabling it and re-enabling it, and nothing. I also updated the drivers.
I have a Satellite P305D-S8900.
Please help!

I seem to have fixed it, thanks.

  • Internal Microphone "Not Plugged In". *No help needed anymore*

    edit: no help needed anymore
Hello. My internal microphone stopped working ever since I stopped using the default Toshiba version of Windows 7.
I have downloaded all the correct drivers for my Toshiba L750-BT4N22, especially the Conexant SmartAudio HD driver.
My internal microphone shows up in sounds/hardware, but it says "Not Plugged In". Also, every once in a while my sound get's choppy when I "seek" or move fast through a video file.
    Could use some help, thanks.

I seem to have fixed it, thanks.

  • L655D-S5050 Internal Mic Not Plugged In? Stumped!

I reviewed related forum posts without success.  My Toshiba laptop L655D-S5050 hard drive failed a few months ago so I replaced the hard drive.  The recovery disks I originally made did not work (no apparent reason why) so I ended up reinstalling drivers / software from this toshiba site.
This laptop has a little microphone up there next to the web camera which "use to be" great for skype.
Everything (speakers, webcam, etc) seems to work fine except that microphone!
When I right click on the sound icon and select Recording Devices it shows Microphone Not Plugged In.  How can I plug that little mic in? Or get it to work?
I borrowed my wife's USB Plantronics headset and it does show up as a working device below the "microphone not plugged in".  I have since used this headset to skype but I want the little built in mic to work so I dont need to steal her headset (happy wife - happy life).
I read these forums and uninstalled and reinstalled the realtek driver - even used different releases from the Toshiba downlaods for my specific laptop.   I also updated the bios (per a few forum threads) to the latest which didn't work.  Then I installed a previous version bios to see if that would work. No such luck - Microphone Not Plugged In.
Is there some software I need to install different than a driver?
    Thanks in advance - Mark

Dransh, it's not clear from your last message if after you loaded BIOS defaults, whether or not you disabled 'fast boot' or 'quick boot', or whatever you called it, or did you re-enable it ? Regardless, make sure to disable fast boot, save and exit. Reboot into Windows.
Click the 'Start' button, type in   dev   , click on 'Device Manager', click on the arrow beside 'Sound, video and game controllers', right click on the 'Conexant audio' device, click on 'Uninstall', put the check mark on 'Delete the driver software for this device', click 'OK', Shutdown the system.
Try the full system reset again with fast boot disabled, follow the instructions from before, boot into Windows, install the Conexant audio driver again, test.
Let us know what happens. Good luck.

  • Microphone displaying "Not Plugged In"....WHAAAAAA?

I have a Toshiba Satellite L645-S4038 laptop and recently, I upgraded my Operating System to Windows 7 Home Premium and before, when I had Windows Vista, my sound worked GREAT, but now, when I go into Recording Devices, It shows my microphone as "not plugged in" and it's an integrated mic. Does ANYONE have a solution to this? please! I have updated my Conexant HD Audio drivers and all and still NOTHING. SOMEBODY PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

#Re: Microphone FP not plugged in? First of all, Microphone FP == Front Panel Microphone so it's not the one in the back of the X-FI. If your casing have a HD compatible front header then you could hook it up to the X-Fi in order to use it (AC97 compatible headers are not supported. Check your casing's documentation).
Secondly, the mic is not working because the Titanium series has a flexi jack that defaults to Line-In mode. The only way to change it into mic mode is through creative's console launcher app. You can download it here [url="http://support.creative.com/Products/ProductDetails.aspx?catID=&CatName=Sound+Blaster&s ubCatID=208&subCatName=X-Fi&prodID=779&prodName=PCI+Express+X-Fi+Titanium+Fatalty+Pro+Series">Console Launcher v2.6.09[/url]
Remember to select your OS. And lastly, you might want to manually remove any previous version of the Console launcher before installing Console Launcher v2.6.09. Once installed, open up the console launcher and in Entertainment Mode select Jacks and change the option (on the left) from line-in to mic (you can also do this in game mode as well, you just have to click on Settings at the bottom). Now your mic should work properly.
    Hope this helps

  • Internal microphone not working with Windows 7 RC on dv9000 (Dv9817cl)

Hi,  I recently installed Windows 7 RC (64bit) on my HP dv9000 (DV9817cl) and everything seems to work apart from the internal microphones.
In the Sounds section of the hardware and sound section of control panel there is only one recording device shown "Microphone, High definition audio device, not plugged in".  I take it this is the 3.5mm microphone port on the front of the notebook.  There is only one driver issue showing in device manager for "Other devices>coprocessor".
The current audio driver is High Definition Audio Device microsoft v6.1.7100.0.  I've tried looking for updated drivers ion the web with no luck so far.
Does anyone know where I could get an updated driver or have any suggestions to get this going?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    Download Audio driver from here.
Intructions how to install it in Vista/Win7.
    Extract this driver with Winrar.
Open Device manager and expand the Sound, video and game controllers section.
Right click on Either the High Definition Audio Device if you have the generic Microsoft drivers, or the Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221 if you have older Conexant drivers and choose "Update Driver Software..."
Click Browse my computer for driver software, then click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
Click "Have Disk..." then Browse to the folder where the drivers were extracted  .......\V64 for 64-bit Vista/Win7. Click OK.
Select one of the "Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221" models in the list, there will be multiple identical entries.
    Click Next, and you're done.
I'm not sure which one from the list will work for You.
This drivers weren't test. So if You will try them and it will work for You let us now about.

  • Microphone not working - Satellite C655-S5132 - Windows 7

I have a microphone plugged into my Satellite C655-S5132 which is running Windows 7.  I can't get it to record.
From Start I typed 'microphone' and selected 'Manage audio devices'.  Clicked the Recording tab.  Two microphones showed up which confuses me.  I didn't think there was an internal microphone.  I unplugged my microphone and one of the microphones on the tab became 'Not plugged in', so I plugged it in again and it became 'Default Device'.  From start I typed 'sound' and selected 'Sound Recorder'.  I clicked 'Start Recording' and spoke into the microphone.  I stopped the recording and saved into a .wma file.  When I play that file there is no sound.  The speakers are at 100%

  • X220 internal microphone not working

Ever since my laptop got a motherboard replacement a few weeks ago, the internal microphone has stopped working. I have installed the most recent conexant audio drivers (8.32.23.5), uninstalled and re-installed them, and uninstalled and tried using microsoft audio drivers. None of these strategies have worked. Furthermore, in the control panel -> sound -> recording tab, it shows a "docking microphone (conexant 20672 smartaudio HD)" rather than an "internal microphone". In the properties page, it also lists the "jack information" of this device to be a "LR rear panel 3.5mm jack". I think the "docking mic" device is actually supposed to be the jack for the docking station that goes with the x220 laptop, however I have never plugged the laptop into a docking station before. There is no listing for an "internal microphone" in the recording tab of the sound page.
Based on this information, would it be logical to assume there is either some hardware issue with the internal microphone itself, or that the microphone isn't plugged into the motherboard properly? If it's not plugged in correctly, how much would I have to disassemble the laptop in order to plug it back in?

    Hey there hitokirix,
That sounds like it could definitely be a hardware issue, since it's not showing in the Sound Menu.
Here's the Hardware Maintenance Manual for the X220.
    http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/0a60739.pdf
It'll show you how to disassemble your machine.
Also, have you tried calling Lenovo back? They might be able to assist you, depending on how long 'a few weeks' is.

  • Internal microphone not working in 7x64

I'm running Windows 7 x64 Pro from a bootcamp install and the internal microphone isn't working.
When I first started on this problem there was a Cirrus device listed in device manager but nothing listed in Recording tab in Control Panel>Sound. One forum post I came across while trying to fix this instructed me to uninstall the driver and reboot so Windows auto-installed the correct driver. So I did, after a reboot it now shows as "High Definition Audio Device" (windows default driver).
It then showed up in the "Recording" tab in Sound but shows as "Not plugged in".
I then obtained the Apple bootcamp installer that contains all drivers and extracted the 64 bit audio installer out of it and installed it. I uninstalled the default windows driver and rebooted. After reboot it still shows as HD audio device.
So I extracted the installer from apple and got the drivers, went into device manager and attempted to manually install the driver. (side note: there are about 25 options of drivers from the installer and I tried all of them). Every one ended with error code 10: device can not start.
I'm not sure where to turn next.

So I've found that "High Definition Audio Device" was actually the speakers, not the mic.
It explains why I couldn't start that device with the Mic drivers but now I can't find the microphone anywhere in device manager now. I've tried restarting a few times, still doesn't show.
Also, I have another one of these exact laptops and its using "Cirrus Logic CS4208 (AB 94)" for the microphone driver and its working.

  • Audio input through external microphone not 'heard' by computer

I can record audio with any app through the builtin mic.  And I know the system 'hears' sound through the builtin mic when I go to SystemPreferences->Sound->Input.
I have an external microphone that I want to record through.  I went to SystemPreferences->Sound->Input and chose 'Line In' and plugged in the microphone's lead into the 'in' jack.  However the SystemPreferences->Sound->Input Input Level sensor/detector is dead -- it shows no audio input.  Nor does iMovie pick up any audio input when the mic is plugged in.
I know the input jack works by plugging in the output pin from a cassette-player, choosing 'Line In', and playing a cassette.  The Input Level sensor/detector comes on and the sound is available to apps.
I know the external microphone works by plugging it into the cassette-player and recording from it and tapping and rubbing on its pick-up.  The sounds are captured on cassette tape.
So why is audio input through external microphone not 'heard' by the computer?  Is there some trick to making it work?

There are a few possibilities, but the most likely is that your microphone does not produce enough signal to be "heard" through the Mac line input. Usually this is normal, with most microphones producing perhaps 1/100th of the signal needed, which would be called "mic level".
You cassette deck probably outputs "line level", much stronger and strong enough to register in the Mac Line input. Similarly, the cassette deck microphone input is probably "mic level" and much more sensitive than the Mac line input.
There are other possibilities, such as a powered microphone, but you have not provided any model numbers or specifications to analyze.
Try this: plug in the microphone like you did before, and make a really loud sound right in front of the mike, like clapping hands. You may see or hear a faint sound register on the Mac.
The usual cure is to buy a microphone preamplifer. You can also buy a new microphone with a built-in preamplifier. You can also buy a USB microphone or preamplifier device that bypasses the analog Line input entirely.

  • Why iPhone 6 Plus sound microphone not working, but in the case of sound recordings in conversation mode work?

Why iPhone 6 Plus sound microphone not working, but in the case of sound recordings in conversation mode work?

Sighhhh, wasted so much time yesterday and today going around Sony centre and then carphone warehouse. They told me to come back after Easter.
I came home, banged the phone against the wall and it worked.
Turned out that mic was working on loud speaker and when using headphones so I thought that the secondary mic is working and the main one (placed with the speakers) isn't. So I banged that part against the wall slightly (in plastic case to prevent scratches) then put the phone underwater, waited for it to dry and now it's working. Idk how well and if it's of perfect quality again but people can hear me well.

  • Internal Webcam and Microphone not working after Screen Fix

I own a HP Envy Spectre XT Ultrabook, and last week I tried to use the webcam and the microphone for the first time in a few months.
However I was shocked to find that Skype kept saying that the webcam was not detected. The microphone also could not register any sound.
Device Manager did not show any imaging devices or the webcamera, even after setting it to view non-present devices.
A check using msinfo32 did not review the webcamera either, and there were no problem devices.
Control Panel >> Sound showed that the Internal Microphone using IDT High Definition Audio Codec was enabled and working, however it could not detect any sound. All drivers are checked to be up-to-date.
I suspect this has something to do with the screen repair last month which a HP on-site technician came down to replace my screen, although I cannot be 100% sure. Although the screen is now working, the technician did not do a good job reassembling the screen - the bottom left corner of the screen cover has not be able to attach properly to the screen.
I have gone through my BIOS setup to make sure that there is no webcam disabled.
I have tried rolling-back and reinstalling the drivers for the microphone but it did not work.
I have tried uninstalling CyberLink YouCam (laptop preinstalled webcam software).
Please help, these two components are very important to me as I am going overseas soon. The laptop is still under warranty.

    Hey ajun,
Thank you very much for the information!
For troubleshooting your Webcam, I would suggest taking a look at the document Webcam Troubleshooting (Windows 7). I would suggest the two options Video does not appear in your webcam software (such as YouCam, Skype, Messenger, ect.), and Webcam is not listed in Device Manager.
For your internal microphone not working either, please take a look at the document Resolving Microphone and Line-in Problems (Windows 7). From this document, I would suggest following the top two symptoms.
Please let me know the outcome of these troubleshooting steps.
Good luck, and have a great day!

  • Wired connection doesn't work if cable is not plugged in at boot time

    Hey all,
I started using arch a few days ago and I simply love it, but I have a problem. The wired connection doesn't work if the cable is not plugged in at boot time, or if it was plugged in at boot time, then plugged out and in again. Switching it off and on again via the gui has the same effect. I am using NetworkManager with dhcpcd, NetworkManager is started via systemd, dhcpcd is not, I let NetworkManager do that. When I started investigating this problem there were some remnants of netctl, but now NetworkManager is the only networking-related service started at boot time. When the cable is plugged back in, NM-applet shows that it's connected, and an IP address is assigned, but the connection doesn't work.
Here's some information regarding the system:
It's a lenovo G50-70 laptop, it uses the r8169 driver for ethernet. (I dualboot it with windows 8.1, but arch is default and all this stuff happens also if i only use arch)
The router is a Linksys EA2700/N600
    journalctl -u NetworkManager

Try to use dhclient perhaps?  Might I also suggest letting systemd deal with the dhcp issue and not NM.  That may seem incongruous but it is possible NM is mis-handling the dhcp hand-off to the network card.  I'm no guru but I got thinking about this when I saw this in your output:
    aug 26 19:15:39 arch_daboka NetworkManager[527]: <info> (enp1s0): device state change: ip-check -> secondaries (reason 'none') [80 90 0]

It is very possible that I'm mis-interpreting this information so please take it with a boulder of salt.

  • PC says Ipod Nano not plugged in...then says it is...than says it isn't...

So, I downloaded the 1-10-06 software update and got the "firmware error" followed by the folder with an exclamation point icon on my Nano. Followed suggestions on the website and restarted from the CD and redownloaded the 1-10-06 update and this time it was succesful...EXCEPT that as soon as update was completed and itunes tried to re-download songs, my PC would say that no Nano is plugged in...then a few seconds later it would say it WAS plugged in...then a few seconds later it would say it WAS NOT plugged in. Now everytime I try and plug my Nano into PC, it does this. Checked USB ports and they are fine. Tried on other PC's and got same result. Sent it back to Apple and their "diagnostic" said it was OK. Can anyone help me?!

    Hi j,
If it is a hardware issue and you're still inside your warranty period (three years if you purchased an Apple Protection Plan), it is covered. I'd have it checked out by the "genius" bar at an Apple Store (free).
