Microphone only works sometimes Skype

Hello,
When I talk on Skype with my friends my microphone just doesn't work anymore after 10 min or so. When I go to Skype-preferences-audio/video and I talk it doesn't work either I've had this problem for a while and when I restart my macbook then it works normally again. I've had my macbook for 1 month so this is kinda frustrating.
Help me pls

Many have had this problem i recommend taking it to apple as it is most likely a hardware issue

My Ringer only works sometimes when using I message. The ringer works for all phone calls and emails. I have tried everything, I even had the unit switched by my carrier and it's happening with the latest unit as well. I did not do the I tunes back and restore. I did a manual set up thinking the problem might carry over from the previous unit. Help!

Had this happen today and 2X past as you discribed. A reboot (turn phone off and on) restored all sounds for me. The first time I can't associate w/ a cause but the second and third were just after listening to a podcast using the apple podcast app - the only app available for that. That's my story and for now I'm sticking to it.

If it works in Game Mode, then the card is working fine, it sounds like the settings might be incorrect in Entertainment Mode. Can you post up a screenshot of your mixer, or describe which settings you have chosen/enabled there?
Which application are you using to record/transmit (your voice, over microphone)?

iPhoto 08 only works SOMETIMES with iPhone. I have been able to upload my photos from my iPhone SOMETIMES... Other times iPhoto doesn't recognize that the iPhone is plugged in. The IMPORT photos just NEVER showes up. How can I get it to CONSISTANTLY recognize my iPhone... what is wrong? Never had this problem with 06.

ok, here's what i did to get iphoto to recognize my iphone.
change the "connecting camera opens:" dialogue box to "image capture" (in the iphoto preferences "general" tab @ the bottom of the window)
close the preferences & quit iphoto.
quit itunes
open iphoto & change the "connecting camera opens:" dialogue box back to "iphoto"
close the preferences & quit iphoto
plug in iphone.
both itunes & iphoto will launch simultaneously.

If you are taking your $500 electronic device to the beach, I recommend you get a case that completely seals the iPhone from the elements (ie. waterproof).

Webcam *only* works in Skype

I've been trying to get skype working off and on which basically requires two things before I start: (1) internal mic; (2) webcam. I have not yet managed to get (1) working. However, (2) was working out-of-the-box. When I first tried it, I got a picture of me and I think the LED came on as well.
Now, the LED does not light up and I get a square of blackness in place of an image. This is using KDE's test facility in system settings. (I'm using this because it worked fine with this test before.)
I didn't have to do anything to get it working before but I figured that might have changed. So I started to work my way through the webcam wiki page but I've got a bit stuck.
I think that the relevant line from lsusb is:
Bus 002 Device 004: ID 064e:e285 Suyin Corp.
I couldn't find exactly this in the hardware lists for drivers but, since it worked before, I figure it must be one of the included drivers. Looking through the lists, uvcvideo seemed the most likely as that supports integrated webcams in similar laptops with ids starting 064e.
lsmod | grep video seems to confirm this:

Moreover, the device is created at /dev/video0 and the webcam shows up fine in KDE's list of multimedia devices. That also shows me it is using /dev/video0 and uvcvideo driver. Moreover, I can't find anything in the logs.
I'm a bit stuck because the wiki at this point pretty much assumes things are working and moves onto configuration. It doesn't say what to do if everything looks OK (device created, modules automatically loaded etc.) but you just get black and no LED.
Can anybody tell me if this should work or what I should look into next? The most relevant forum post I've found is https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=132774 but unfortunately the OP in that case didn't know what had fixed the problem. Google has not turned up anything useful or, rather, nothing which I recognise as useful which definitely is not the same thing...
Note that I do not know with which kernel I last tested the webcam successfully - I just know it was working "a while ago" and isn't now.
EDIT: Forgot to mention that I am in the video group and that the permissions on /dev/video0 are:

EDIT 2: I just realised that the output of lsmod | grep v4l in the post I linked looks rather different from mine. The output there includes lines for v4l2_common, videodev and i2c_core whereas I get only one line for a 32 bit compatibility module:

I don't know if this is just because things have changed in later kernels or if this is a clue as to what might be wrong.
EDIT 3: Really confused now. It turns out the camera works in Skype complete with LED, picture etc. So I now have the camera working in Skype (which I can't use because I can't figure the mic out) but not elsewhere.
I assume this has something to do with the fact that Skype is 32bit? Is it possible to get the camera working generally in 64bit and 32bit applications (assuming that really is the problem)?

Built-in microphone only works when phone is connected to iPod nano cable

Hi, I got an iPhone yesterday but the microphone doesn't work properly. I have figured out that the built-in microphone will only work when I connect the dock cable from a second generation iPod nano. The cable that comes with the iPhone does not work. The supplied handsfree earbuds work correctly at all times.
The strangest part of the problem is that the iPod dock cable doesn't have to be connected to my computer!
I'll state the problem again. Let's say I make a phone call. The person on the other end cannot hear anything I say, but I can hear them. Then I plug in the dock cable from a second generation iPod nano, and the other person can then hear me. Unplug the cable and they can not hear me.
I have tried restoring the iPhone three times, turned it on and off, and inserted and removed the headphone plug many times. These actions do nothing. *The only way I can talk on my phone is if I insert the dock connector from my old iPod!*

The trascription doesn't take place on your phone. The audio file is processed a little on the phone and then sent to Apple's servers for the bulk of the work, and the resulting text is sent back to your phone.
Sometimes there might be problems connecting to the internet to send the file. Sometimes there might be problems with Apple's servers in a specific region. In my case if I go outside my house a bit my phone will still be trying to connect to the wifi (there is just a little bit of a signal). There isn't enough wifi to handle sending the audio files to Apple, but enough that the phone keeps trying to use it.
Things that sometimes help. Turn off wifi if it is weak. Put your phone into airplane mode for a few seconds and then turn the radio back on.
If the problem is at Apple's end. Just wait a while.

On button only works sometimes

The "On" button of my iMac had developed an issue where it is only responding sometimes. It doesn't matter whether it's plugged in to the APC surge unit or a regular outlet. What is typically occurring is it won't turn on when pressing the button unless I unplug and replug the cord. Then it usually turns on on the first press of the button or sometimes the second press of the button. It seems to be getting worse. I'll ask for feedback here before reporting the issue to my reseller (it's under warranty).

True except that just pulling the plug is not proper way to reset the SMC.

You think we have this amazing ability to look at a 1000+ line program and instantly, mentally debug it? Or are willing to compile and single-step through your code to point out things that are wrong? There's a limit to how lazy you can be and expect help.
Here's a clue: put lots and lots of System.out.println()s in your code. At every stage, write out the values of variables. Look at the output as your program runs. Maybe that'll give you a clue as to what is going wrong.
Once you have narrowed down the problem to a particular statement, and you still can't understand why that statement is doing what it is doing, then post a specific question about that statement, and explain exactly what values the variables are before going in to that statement, and what comes out, and what you think should come out. Then we can explain why it's doing what it's doing.
