Microphones not working at all.

hi, im having some issues regarding the built in microphone as well as external mics not working at all.
The computer seems to register the mics there, but they just dont seem to work .
ive tried troubleshooting and following all the guidelines on this site on how to fix it and nothing seems to work.
the internal mic will work one day and then the next day ill try to use it and itll be back to not working. with me not changing any of the settings. any help would be greatly appreciated. I heard back from somebody in a post about this about a month ago, gave my specs as requested and didnt hear anything else after that. Hoping this one gets a little more attention.
the computer is operating on windows 8.1
the product number is B5Y66AV
Thank you!

Hi @brun67,
Thank you for your reply.
I regert that the micsrophone works sometimes but not always.
I did not mean to imply that your notebook was incompatible with Windows 8 only that it was a possiblity to check and that HP does not support Windows 8 on your notebbook.
You could try rolling back the driver to see it there is any improvement or try updating the driver.
As HP does not support this OS the HP Support Assistant will not help.  You will need to manually check for any updated drivers from the manufacturer of the card.
Downloading Software and Drivers
To rule out hardware as being a possibility here is a link to HP Notebook PCs - Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 8). Under the component test audio is an option.
Good Luck!

  • Microphone does not work in Facetime

    Hi
I read other posts and in Maverik I didn't find simmilar problem, for most people their microphone does not work after few minutes, but in my case, microphone does not work at all in Facetime, so I can hear the other end, but they can not hear me! This happened after updating Mavericks.
    My Mac specs:
    Macbook Pro 2013
    OSx 10.9.1 (Mavericks)
    things I already tested:
I tried to use headphone and without headphone, but it didn't make any difference
Microphone works fine in Skype and other softwares (Audacity, YahooMessenger, etc.)
Tried with WiFi and with Ethernet cable
    Internet speed is 2.3MBps
Router's firewall does not have any restriction for certain ports
Tried turning facetime Off and On
Tried to call iPhone 5s, iPad2 and MacBook Pro each in different network and different countries!
... and finally searching internet for hours (which obviously came up with nothing)
I'll be thankful if somebody help me through, all suggestions are welcome, so please don't hesitate to post.

    Same issue here....
8-core Mac Pro, Lion, Original External iSight camera connected via FireWire 400 through the FireWire jack on the 23" Apple Cinema Display.
Audio and video work fine using iChat and making video clips through any/all apps.
However, using FaceTime.....incoming audio and video are fine, outgoing video is fine, but outgoing audio is missing.  Nobady can hear me.
Sorry guys...you can't doll this one up or spin it in any other direction......it's a bug pure and simple.
Feel free to fix it whilst you're dealing with all the other problems that Lion has.

  • My microphone does not work on calls on my iPhone 4

Don't ask me what has happened and I have been through all of the troubleshooting that I can on my own.
I have no clue how to get a hold of a LIVE AT&T person or APPLE person.
The problem is my microphone does not work when I use the telephone, whether I make the call or someone calls me.  It is NOT the MUTE button.  And yes, I have already rebooted my iPhone about 5 times now.  Has not fixed it either.
But the microphone DOES work as I was able to record a new voicemail greeting to let people know my phone isn't working.
So, they could call me all day long but they won't hear me, so who do I call using my landline (thankfully I kept it).
It is the day after Thanksgiving and I would be a fool to head over to the Apple Store or the AT&T Store....
    Thank-you,
    Marcia

Try disconnecting the headphones and then adjusting the volume, does it say headphones?
There might be something in the headphone jack, maybe lint, dirt, or something else in there.
Take a look at this Apple document for more information -> iPhone: Can't hear through the receiver or speakers

I have the iPad 2 16GB, bought it in August 2011, I worked perfectly but in mid-August 2012 I took her to the store because the microphone did not work reviewed and changed me, but to my surprise that the new iPad had the problem is disconnected WIFI signal I have to be glued to the router, and I did everything he says is supported by the Apple and all other pages and forums regarding this problem is not solved and always disconnects when connected always disconnects again!! passing will be settled as no longer factory warranty although it has neither the three months I renewed new, please help because the investment has been great and I can not use only as "a mirror" I'm waiting a true solution, thanks ....
    Sincerely,

This does help me because I am pondering on wether to buy an airport extreme to solve my ipad 2 connection woes.  I have an extremely old router dLink 524....but I have NEVER had any problems with it at all ever.  My xbox connected great to it and netflix ran flawless through my xbox.....now I have an ipad2 and an apple tv and they are BOTH having horrible connection problems.  I have read most of the forums on how to fix it by changing the settings on my router but since mine is so old I couldn't do some of the suggested solutions.  So here I am debating on whether to spend all this $ on an airport extreme?  I am just hoping that if I go and purchase this, my connectivity issues problems will go away like yours did.  Just wondering if you have ATV as well and if the AE solved its problems?  I have read about AE solving ipad2 wifi problems, I'm just hoping it will solve my ATV as well.

I have been searching the web extensively, without success, to find how to resolve this issue.
I recently installed Windows 7, 32 bit, on my wife's HP Pavilion dv6748us laptop. Now her internal microphone does not work.
Have gotten some "roadside" advice to use a Windows Vista driver; Have no idea what the driver is or how to get it.
Have found some information about uninstalling realtek audio driver and reinstalling an older version; Have no idea on this one either.
Would really appreciate a definitive answer with a positive result.
    Thanks for all help.
The drivers for the laptop are located here. select Vista and Driver-audio. The Vista driver should work.  You can uninstall the driver from within the Device manager. Start --> type devmgmt.msc and the device manager will open. Locate the HD audio device and right-click it and update the driver.
After that is done go to Control Panel and Sound and the recording tab up top.  Check to see if the microphone is grayed out. (not grayed out means driver is properly installed). The microphone should also have a green checkmark next to it.  It is now a matter of selecting the microphone then selecting Properties to enable the microphone and then  test and adjust the input level. Look at the tabs (listen, levels and advanced).
Had you considered trying Windows update or the Realtec website as a drivers source?

    Hi:
Looking at your system information you could have one of two possible audio cards:
Conexant HD audio or the RealTek HD Audio
The fact that you couldn't install the RealTek HD audio driver indicates to me that you don't have a RealTek audio card. Check your device manager and look at your sound card and check to make sure which audio card you have.
Here is the Vista 32 bit driver for the Conexant audio card:
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=32...
Here is the Vista 32 bit driver for the Realtek audio card:
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=32...
If you in fact have the Realtek audio card, I would download and install the latest, greatest HD driver directly from the RealTek site:
Accept the agreement, download and install the first one on the list. Maybe it has been updated to fix the issue you are experiencing.

  • TS3274 Microphone is not working

MY microphone is not working, how can I specify what is the problem

Is only one person that can't hear you?
Try both this; GO to Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings.
Then keep the Powerbutton and the Homebutton pressed at the same time until you see the Apple logo on your iPad screen.

The one on the left is a microphone, not a speaker.

  • External Microphone problem not working.

I am trying to get a Sony ECM-DS70P Condenser Stereo Microphone with a 3.5mm stereo male plug to work on my MacBook Pro with a Behringer UCA222 USB Audio Interface and I am having no joy at all.
    Summary of Problem
The Microphone will not work when plugged directly into the Line-in jack on the MacBook Pro because the Audio Line-In input on the MacBook is line level -10dB to+4dB and microphones are generally around -40dB. So, I need either a line level preamp or a usb audio interface.
I decided on a USB Audio Interface (Behringer UCA222).
The Microphone is plugged into a 3.5mm stereo to RCA L & R cable which is plugged into the L/R RCA inputs on the Behringer UCA222. The Behringer UCA222's USB Cable is plugged into a USB port on the MacBook Pro.
On the Macbook Pro in System Preferences > Sound > the output is set to Internal Speakers and the input is set to the USB Codec (Which showed up when the Behringer UCA222 was plugged in).
    But it doesn't work!
Any help from anyone would be very much appreciated.

I haven't actually tried it myself but it has a good reputation and gets very good reviews.
I have used many (most) of the Blue microphone range, especially the blueberry and the woodpecker (fabulous mic) these are xlr balanced rather than USB but the build quailty and diaphragm/enclosure design is first rate. Not quite Neumann standard but, not at all Neumann prices. Good choice.

  • My Microphone is not working in Facetime (iPad2)

The microphone is not working when i use various applications on my iPad2, i am not sure if it happens when i upgrade the IOS to the latest version. Is there someone with the same issue as mine?
Pls. help. Facetime is useless without the microphone...

Saw this on another post - iPad 2 mic not working.
I can confirm vacuuming the mic worked for me. I hadn't used the mic on the iPad 2 for quite a few months, then noticed when trying a VOIP telephone call, the other person could not hear me at all. Vacuuming the mic (tiny hole on the centre, top edge of the iPad) restored the mic to normal.
A tip, when vacuuming, get as much suction as you can by using the crevice tool attachhment on the vaccum and using your fingers to close off as much of the nozzzel opening as possible to maximize the suction.  I noticed it took about 30 seconds of vaccumming before the mic worked again. 5-10 seconds wasn't enough. So if it doesn't work at first, keep vacuuming.
The mic is as good as new. Now, on a VOIP call, I can hear the wall clock ticking away at the other person's end. The iPad makes a great conference phone. That mic is super sensitive.
Thanks to all the other posters on this forum for the mic repair tips. It really has saved my iPad as it's out of warranty.
     Cheers, Tom

Before you go through that trouble open About this Mac > More Info... > System Report > Audio and see if the system actually knows it has a microphone.  Then you can look into Applications > Utilities >  Audio MIDI Setup and see if the microphone is there, select it and make sure the sliders are set to full. Then in System Preferences look for Sound > Input and make sure it shows up there and the sliders are at least half way up. If none of that works do a
    SMC RESET
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and ALL peripherals.
    Wait 15 seconds.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
It is the 5 second timing that initiates the reset.
then go through the process of looking for the microphone again as the reset may reenable the mic.

  • Microphone is not working on my iMac 21.5-inch, Mid 2011

I have gone through System Preferences and clicked on Sound. Once there, I have gone to input and adjusted. No changes. I also did shut it down and start up while pushing command, option, P, R at the same time. No change. I also Created another Log In account and th microphone was not working there either. Please help me resolve this.

Here are a couple of additional suggestions, but after these I unfortunately have run out of suggestions for you.
Are you using one of the current Apple USB or wireless Apple keyboards? If you are using an older Apple or a 3rd party keyboard then it's possible your system is not recognizing the key presses required to run AHT.
Another way to verify the USB ports on your iMac is to use the built in 'System Profiler' feature of Mac OS X. First, plug in a USB device to the suspect USB port, then pull down the Apple menu and select 'About this Mac'. When the 'About this Mac' window opens click on the 'More Info...' button, then click on the 'System Report...' button. Once the system profiler window open click on 'USB' in the Hardware column on the left side to display your USB device tree. You should see a list of all the USB devices that are attached to your system including the FaceTime camera, SD card reader, and your Bluetooth card that are inside your iMac. Do you see the device attached into the suspect USB port? If you move the device to another USB port you can press the command-R keys to refresh the device tree list. If the known good device doesn't show up when it is connected to the suspect port then you have confirmed that you have an issue with that port. Even if you choose not to take your system in for service I still recommend contacting Apple so that you can create a case to document the issue in case you want to fix it at a later date.
