Microphone Settings in Adobe Audition 3

Hello everyone I have a serious problem. I just started using Adobe Audition 3 and everything is working fine except my microphone isn't recording my vocals. The music is playing and sounding good yet when I start to record and playback nothing is there. I tested my hardware and it's working fine, so why can't I hear my vocals. Can someone please help me? Thanks

Ahhhh, this is one of the areas that AA excels at, in my opinion.  Put the 4 takes on 4 separate tracks in MultiTrack View (MV) lined up correctly on the timeline.  On each track (take) locate the 'In" and "Out" points for each "keeper" section and split the track at those points (right click over the cursor-line and choose 'split').  Right click on all the "throw away" parts and choose "mute".  Do that for each of the 4 takes (tracks).  Playback and only the keeper sections will play.  Under 'File' menu, choose to export a mono mixdown of all the tracks, and create a comp'd WAV that you can put on a single track in MV for mixing.
Alternatively, once you have all the tracks split in the proper places, choose to "lock in time" all the keeper bits.  Drag the keeper bits to another track (say track 5), then mute the first 4 tracks and just play back the comp'd track 5.  You can then export that single track to a new wave... or not.... since it is on one track, then it makes it easy to mix and use automation on the single track without the WAV export and addition from above.
Most of the time I use the second method.

  • How to sync settings in Adobe Audition

    Hi all.
I am an Adobe Audition CC user on Mac. I've just bought a new Mac (hooray!) and want to sync over all of my workspaces, preferences, presets etc.
I know that there's a specific button to do this in some CC apps, but I can't seem to find it in Audition. Is it just not possible? Is there a manual way?
Or am I just being stupid...?
    Help would be GREATLY appreciated!
    Will

The Prefs Sync isn't an Audition feature at this time, but it's not too difficult to migrate your existing preferences.
On the old system, open Finder and click Go in the menu.
Hold down OPTION to see "hidden" folders and click on Library.
Open Adobe > Audition and copy the "6.0" folder.
On your new system, repeat the first two steps, but in the third step, copy the "6.0" folder into the Audition folder, overwriting the default.

  • Adobe Audition 3.0 "Audio Hardware Settings" for USB Audio Interface HELP!

    Hi guys.
I’m after some help in the internal settings of Adobe Audition 3.0 whilst I’m trying to run my condenser mic through my ART USB Dual Pre.
I have the USB Dual Pre all set up in my Windows 7 set up (it automatically becomes the default recording device when it’s plugged in), phantom power enabled, XLR cable plugged into the right socket of the two available (is there any difference? I’m just recording voice tracking for radio announcements), headphones plugged into the monitoring jack at the back. Levels are turned up enough that they will pick up the noise, if there was any.
I go to the “edit” tab in Adobe Audition 3.0, hit record and nothing comes up. I’m not getting any sound at all registered on the computer. I’ve downloaded and installed Asio4All, but can’t for the life of me figure out the configuration within the “Edit > Audio Hardware Setup” to make the damn thing pick up my voice. There’s mention of Audio Drivers (Asio4All or Audition 3.0 Windows Sound), USB Audio Codecs, Input/Output… it’s enough to make a man who’s not very good at this sort of thing cry (ie. Me).
Could anybody help a body out, please? I think I’ve done everything right except the configuration within Audition itself. A helping hand would be GREATLY appreciated.
    Thanks so much!

    Hey there,
Thanks for your reply! I'm not too good at describing what I'm doing, so I've taken screenshots of all the options in "Edit > Audio Hardware Settings" under Edit View and Multitrack view. They include both Audio Drivers available (which were Asio4All and Audition 3.0 Windows Sound) and the associated Default Input/Output options, as well as the Audio Driver control panels and the options that were checked/unchecked on them.
If anybody could tell me how to configure this so I can actually record from my USB Dual Pre, that would be one better than I can do!
    Thanks heaps.

  • Adobe Audition line-in Recording Problems

    Hello,
I've just started using windows 7, used to and still do use on other computers windows xp.
I installed adobe audition 1.5 on the computer with windows 7.
In xp you had to select line in, in the recording control to allow you to record if something was playing in the background.
    see images: .
I can't seem to enable this function in 7, so i can't sample anything playing in the back ground.
Has anyone had this problem, do you know how to sort this out, please help.
    kind regards
    Dan W

You can probably do what you want. But you probably need to adjust settings within Adobe Audition.
First, since this is a new PC, it's really important to get all your hardware drivers and Windows 7 itself totally up-to-date.  Keep going back to Windows Update until Win 7 says it has installed all the downloads it can find for your new PC. Win 7 is pretty good about updating itself as needed.  Just let it do its thing. And then be sure that when you go to a website like youtube.com and play a video, you can hear sound over the PC speakers.
You probably already know how to tell whether stream recording will work in Audition, but just to be clear, if you're playing a video at youtube.com for example, and you can hear the sounds over the PC speaker and you have Audition in Record mode, you should be seeing the sound level bars at the bottom of the display dancing in time with the sounds you hear.  If they're not dancing, stream recording will not work.
To fix this, in AA1.5, go to Options>Device Properties.  Hit the "Wave In" tab (at the top)--not "Wave Out".  Near the top left of the window that pops when you click "Wave In" will be a window with a small arrow to the right of it.  Click on that small arrow.  It will show you a list of devices Audition thinks might be used to record sounds within Audition.  But if stream recording isn't working, Audition may be picking the wrong device to use.
Here's how to try a different device in Audition which may get stream recording working.  Follow the directions carefully here.  It's easy to skip a step and then it won't work. Unfortunately, setting devices in AA1.5 is unnecessarily unintuitive, IMO. Click the Change button to the right of the device window with the little arrow on "Wave In" tab.   On Recording Devices tab at the top, select a device in the window on the left (Unused Record Devices).  I can't tell you for sure which one will work with your PC, as this depends to an extent on your sound hardware which will be different from mine.  But two good ones to try first are Monitor and Line In. Click the device you want to try so it's highlighted, and then click the Use button.  It will move over to the box on the right (Multitrack Device Preference Order).  Click the Move Up button on the bottom there until the device you're trying next is raised up to "1st". Then click "OK" (not "X" or "Cancel") to close this window.  The display will then show the previous window and the device you elevated to 1st position should now appear in the device window there.  To the right of the Change button is a small check box labeled "Use this device in Edit View."  Be sure this box is checked and then click OK (not "X" or "Cancel") to close this window.  In WinXP, it used to help at this point to close and reopen Audition though I'm not sure it helps with Win 7; but you don't need to reboot the PC.
Now try playing that video in youtube again.  Can Audition stream record it?  If not, go back as before to Recording Devices and try a different device until you've tried each one of them in 1st position, being very careful that you are clicking OK to exit the two windows there and that "Use this device in Edit View" is checked each and every time you try a different device.
If the bars dance during Record mode, but you hear nothing in Audition when you play back the file, stream recording is now working but you may need to go back to Device Properties as above and this time pick a different device in "Wave Out" tab so Audition playback is correctly passed to your PC speakers.
Once you get it working, I strongly recommend making notes somewhere that you'll be able to find again if you have to reinstall everything, because as I say, this stuff is not intutive, and unless you have notes on the correct settings and how to get them on your PC, you'll find yourself out at sea again if you have to reinstall.

  • I am considering purchasing the Mac mini for home studio audio production using Adobe Audition and a USB microphone.  Will the base mini model run these programs?

I am considering purchasing the Mac mini for home studio audio production using Adobe Audition and a USB microphone.  Will the base mini model run these programs?

The base mini has 4GB and a 5400 RPM hard drive. It is slow to start up and slow to launch large application such as Word (and I'd assume Adobe Audition) due to the slow drive. I've not used a new 4GB model, just the 8GB model, and the 8GB model (except for the slow drive) handles everything I've thrown at it, including running Photoshop, Word, Safari, and Mail at the same time but there is sometimes a delay switching between programs as the swapfile is updated. Overall I was not happy with the 5400 RPM drive (perhaps because I have MBA and iMac with Fusion drive) so I eventually upgraded it with an SSD. Now the mini is truly a warrior.

    Any advice ???
    Thank you

See my reply in the other thread. Please don't double post as it is confusing to give answers. Unfortunately your picture doesn't show any helpful information to give us a clue as to what the problem is. A more helpful image would be of the same view but with the Input/output selection shown (rather than the fx view) by clicking on the double arrow icon to the left of the fx one which is selected at present.

  • Adobe audition could not find a supported audio device. Please check your device settings.

After install adobe audition 3.0 version (Legency version downloaded from official website), it can't start normally, a dialog shows the information as title and the application shut down automatically after click OK button.

Well, that is pretty much expected if you are using a contemporary operating system. It's simply not compatible. Too much has changed.

  • Adobe Audition + Microphone Sync Is

    Hi Guys,
Just upgraded from an Audigy 2 to an X-Fi. When I'm recording in Adobe Audition, there is a delay on it which I never used to have.
Is this a known issue with X-Fi's? Or is the problem with Audition. I'm just wondering if the super-duper processor is adding latency.
    Cheers,
    Spode

Are you recording using ASIO drivers (ASIO is enabled in Adobe Audition 2.0 only)?
If yes, change the ASIO latency from preferences (it may be set in the default 50ms, try changing to 0ms or less). Greater numbers mean more lag between what is being recorded and what you hear, where smaller numbers mean higher CPU usage.

  • Can't Hear Myself Recording (In Adobe Auditi

I have the USB Sound Blaster External Soundcard.
When I open Creative Smart Recorder, it records me perfectly, and I hear myself, and successful playback and everything.
But when I try to record in Adobe Audition, I hear no sound results from my microphone when I try to record myself.
What's the problem? I tried to mess around with the settings (if those are the right ones), and Adobe Audition is perfectly fine, and my Sound Blaster software was just installed a few minutes ago.
    I'd appreciate some help.

    someone please help!!!!

  • Adobe Audition with M-Audio Fast Track Pro mic input

I must be missing a setting somewhere.  I have two mics going into the M-Audio Fast Track Pro (XLR inputs).  Mic 1 works fine but no input from Mic 2 although I have audio coming through my headsets when speaking into Mic 2 - it just doesn't register in Adobe Audition.  I have switched mics and cables and all are fine.  The issue is with Mic 2.
Again, Mic 1 is working fine and Mic 2 is picking up audio and feeding to my headphones but not to Adobe Audition.  I have all the latest drivers installed.
I am on a Win7 (32bit) system.  Microphones are Shure PG-42's (phantom powered condenser microphones).
I contacted M-Audio support and phone-verified that all Fast Track Pro settings were proper.  Seems to be a setting or driver issue in Audition.  I've spent hours trouble-shooting to no avail.  In the meantime, I'm using a Y-splitter running both mics into Mic Input 1 on the Fast Track Pro which works fine but I really need seperate control over each microphone.  I have interviews coming up soon and would like to find a resolution quickly.  Can anyone help?  Thanks!

Archie!  Good stuff!  I'm almost there...
I've got my Adobe Audition set up with the settings you gave me - everything is armed and good-to-go... but then...
When I hit record Tracks one and two look like they're recording but there is no level (no audio) going into the tracks.
If I go back to the Edit view and try to record the entire fills with green as if I'm filling it 100% with sound.  This has never happened before.
I suspect I've got something hosed-up in my "Audio Hardware Setup" under the Edit section.
My selections for Audio Driver Setup are:
    1)  M-Audio USB ASIO
    2)  ASIOforALLv2
    3)  Audition 3.0 Windows Sound
If you could give me some direction as to the settings in "Audio Harware Setup" I feel I've almost got it.
    Thanks!

  • Adobe Audition CC - Creative Headset WP-450

    Hi,
Please note : I am a newbie (just 2 hours old) with Adobe Audition CC on Mac OS X.
I am trying out Adobe Audition CC  but having problems to use Creative Headset WP-450 (Bluetooth) which comes with integrated microphone & headphone.
Under "Audition" Preferences : Audio Hardware --> Default input & Default output : when I select "Creative WP-450 Headset " setting then I cannot  record an audio.
(Under "Meter Input signal" I can see the test signals--which means the sound is being captured from the headphones by the software).
However, if I change my "Default input" to "Bulit-in Microphone" setting. then I am able to record and play the audio without any problem.
Does it mean : that I cannot use integrated headphones/microphones headsets with Audition CC and I have to use the in-built microphone or do I have to buy a separate microphone to record the audio.
Or, do I have to make some more settings in the software which I am not aware of.
(I also searched for a driver regarding Creative WP-450 Headset but it does not come with any driver since it is a bluetooth version and supported by Mac OS X.)
Hope any one can help me in the forum.
Many thanks in advance and have a nice weekend.
    Absar

Depending on what you are trying to record it might be better, if you can afford it, to buy an external USB audio interface with built in mic preamp as well as a better mic. Audition always gives better results with external audio interfaces rather than relying on the built in ones, which are generally of poor quality and meant only for playing YouTube movies or Skype type communications. Some dealers do some pretty good Podcast kits with everything that you need.

  • Adobe Audition, Audigy 2 ZS Platinum, can no longer hear guitar :-\

I've recently reformatted my computer, installed the Audigy 2 software, and installed Adobe Audition. Using Line In 2 on the front of my pc, I was able to plug in a guitar, and hear the guitar via headphones. I can use the remote's record button to instantly start recording, with no problems. I can also play audio using Itunes.
When I opened Audition, I immediately received errors saying that my audio device was not configured or whatever, and that I needed to select an audio device. So I went into the Audition settings, chose Soundblaster Audigy 2 [xxxx], specified Line In 2 for the input, applied and exited. Now I can no longer hear the input from my guitar at all, whether in Audition or not. I'm not sure what setting it might have changed on my pc, but any help would be great.

Set 1st your .REC to AnalogMix(...) and then select this '+' sign --> untag the option like picture shows.

  • Adobe Audition CS5.5 with Premiere Pro CS5

    Hello everybody.
I am considering downgrading from Master Collection CS5 to Adobe Production Premium CS5.5
But quite frankly it's just because of one application.
Though, i am in doubt if i'll actually going to make the downgrade.
And as you could and might have guessed it is the Adobe Audition CS5.5 Application.
Though really the whole pack has a GREAT improvement overall, I just actaully want to mix SEAMLESSLY with Premiere Pro and sound editing application (Audition).
Which leads me to my next question.
Now with Adobe Soundbooth CS5 closed off (by April 24th), and an UPGRADE for Soundbooth CS5 users to Audition CS5. Does this mean that Audition CS5.5 works SEAMLESSLY with Premiere Pro CS5?
Is there a dynamic link between the two applications? (Audition CS5.5 and Premiere Pro CS5)
AM i able to send mixes between the two? I really don't want to loose any Audio data, such as 5.1 channel mapping, volume mixing, denoising, general mixing etc.
All i really need is some good quality sound editing which works seamless, as After Effects and Premiere Pro has proved to me can be done.
Just want to know if it is possible. Or if I REALLY have to upgrade in order to get the sweet apples.

    Hi _durin_
    Thanks for your quick response.
But I didn't quite understand your answer.
I have seen Jason Levine's video earlier, as CS5.5 was announced and it looks natively good. I understand the mixdown attributes etc.
Please correct me if im wrong HOWEVER this workflow and settings applies still to ONLY the new CS5.5 Version?
Im currently using Master Collection CS5.
Instead of getting either the Production Premium, or Master Collection I am strongly considering updating Soundbooth CS5 to Audition CS5.5 (the option is there as i can tell by SoundBooth's website, though i get a weird error message when I click the update link...)
However I need to know, IF Audition CS5.5 works well with the PREVIOUS version (that'll be CS5 not 5.5), of Premiere Pro.
Are there an option to render the reference video, and generate a interchange session from WITHIN Premiere Pro CS5 to Audition CS5.5?
Im sorry if I either sound harsh or "willingly" misunderstanding. But I have only documentation on how the integration works between the current versions (meaning 5.5).
Im as you can guess VERY confused over the move from Adobe to make a .5 version instead of a full-fledged CS6 solution. It causes a stir, cause I then don't know much of the integration between the previous applications.
I have seen as an example that Photoshop CS5 have gotten the update to receive paintings/files made with their new touch API. So I wonder whether integrational features will be a part of the CS5 pack since, as i've mentioned, an application like Soundbooth gets replaced with Audition, with an upgrade option for the Soundbooth owners.
Im confused and hope you can help me clear my mind up, whether to upgrade or not. I will download the trial eventually, but not onto my current CS5 system since I already use this in my daily video work and want to AVOID confusion.

  • Adobe Audition CS6 (5.0.1) update patch released

UPDATE:  A new 5.0.1 update build has been made available as of July 20, 2012, due to an issue discovered in the Dynamics Processing effect.  If you previously updated Adobe Audition CS6, please visit the links below and install the new update.  This update is not available via Adobe Update Manager and must be downloaded via the website.
Today we released an update to address several bugs in Audition CS6. Many were minor workflow issues, but a few could cause Audition to crash under certain circumstances.
Download the patch installer directly from:
    Windows: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5419
    Mac: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5418
bugs fixed in Adobe Audition CS6 5.0.1 update:
APE files with metadata inserted by other editors cause Audition to crash (Windows)
If previous session directory no longer exists, Audition leaves the Folder Location field empty
Multitrack fades no longer respect the fade type preference.  (Worked in CS5.5)
Audition may crash when users choose to create unique copies of selected MT regions
Playback stutters when creating a unique copy of a clip while right-click dragging
Channel Mix settings not honored on export when not exposed in dialog
EUCON Soft Key set contains keys that do nothing
Session Tempo broken on systems using commas instead of decimal points
Bounce to New Track > Selected Track bounces AFTER passing through track output
If a favorite was recorded on subset of channels, the favorite will fail if those channels are disabled
Sending a stereo bus side-chained to a mono track may crash the application
UAD-2 plug-ins missing from Windows Effects menu
Audition may crash on launch when CoolType encounters certain installed fonts (Mac)

I'm really happy to see this update out, but I haven't been able to install it on my Mac yet.
The Updates item in the help menu is greyed out for me. When I try running the installer from the direct download it says 'Updates have been suppressed by your administrator.'
I can't imagine that I would have disabled updates.
    Any advice?

  • Adobe Audition CS6 (5.0.2) update patch released

    Hey Audition friends!
This morning we released an update patch for Adobe Audition CS6.  This update, version 5.0.2 for Mac and Windows, fixes several bugs discovered after release that could not be fixed in time for the earlier patch, and cleans up a few odds and ends to ensure Audition is fully compatible for use on Windows 8.  Briefly, here are the primary bug fixes:
    Metronone may skip or stutter
Windows registry entry missing backslash in path
Eucon/Avid Artist control surface touchscreen: Control of Surround Panner does not work
Bounce to New Track > Selected Track: New track is now based on channelization of source track
Windows 8: Third-party drivers do not have a valid WHQL signature
CD Burning: Removed 78 minute limit from CD Layout.
Audition may crash on Mac when exporting to OMF
Audition may crash when attempting to bounce a track with a channelization that does not match the Master track
You may install the update by selecting Help > Updates… in Adobe Audition CS6 or through the Adobe Application Manager tool.  Additionally, you may download the patch installer directly for Mac and Windows.

Since 5.02 is an update, not an upgrade (there's a technical difference under the hood) then you shouldn't need to rescan for VSTs or anything - the new executable will use the same settings files.  However, I would suggest NOT updating in the middle of a project as a good rule of thumb.  If you choose to, I might suggest backing up the existing application files or folder so you could easily restore if you chose to.  There were no major changes introduced between 5.0 and 5.02 except for some bug fixes to improve stability, so you'll probably be safe, but unless you're running into one of the specific issues described, my recommendation would be to wait.
As for your second question, I don't know the answer to that.  What happens when you attempt to perform a mixdown?  There was some work done for the 6.0 release that would have reduced problems when trying to mixdown with UAD and other instance-limited plugins.  If you enable Track Pre-Render for those tracks, by clicking the lightning bolt icon in the Effects Rack or the "fx" view in the track panel for those tracks, do you still experience a problem?
