  • Clunk sound every 30 secs or so, how Do I turn this off?

I have a new MBP and it's driving me crazy. It makes this thunk/clunk sound every 20 to 30 seconds or so. It's not loud, but is very annoying at night, when everything is quiet (except my new wonderful computer). It sounds like a low xylophone tap. I opened sounds to try and identify the sound. After listening to all the alert sounds, this sound is not there. any ideas what might be causing it? and how can I turn it off?
    thanks so much!!!!!

Mine does that as well (when the machine is idling). But since my tibook used to do that as well (and many laptops from other brands), i never saw it as something out of the ordinary.
Does your MBP do that often, or maybe even when the drive is not idle? If so, it could be related to Sudden Motion Sensor.
You could try disabling it temporarily to see if that changes anything. The instructions are here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300724
Also, you can try ticking off the "Put the hard drive(s) to sleep" option in Energy Saver (in Preferences) although i doubt it will change anything.

  • I don't know how I did it, but now when I am sending a text, the microphone takes over and is trying to speak what I am typing.  How do I turn it off?

I don't know how I did it, but when I am texting, the microphone keeps coming on and tries to say what I am typing.  How do I turn this off?

I suspect you have Voice Over on:
    Press Home.
    Tap Settings. Then double-tap Settings.
    Tap General. Then double-tap General.
Use three fingers on the screen to scroll to Accessibility.
    Tap Accessibility. Then double-tap Accessibility.
    Tap VoiceOver. Then double-tap VoiceOver.
Tap "On" next to VoiceOver. Then double-tap "On" to turn it off.
You have to tap, then double-tap to select the numbers to enter your passcode.

  • My phone is on silent but my camera still makes sound how do I turn that off ?

I have an iPhone 6 and i turned all my phone onto silent and there's no sound what so ever but once I take a picture it makes sound how do i turn it off it won't stop every time I take a picture !

    Hello Taniaaychan,
If your iPhone is muted using the Ring/Silent switch on the side of your iPhone and you're still hearing the shutter sound, this function may be disabled.
Adjust the volume of the shutter sound with the Ringer and Alerts settings in Settings > Sounds. Or mute the sound using the Ring/Silent switch. (In some countries, muting is disabled.)

  • I was playing Angry Birds and had to hit the pause button to listen to something.  When I hit the pause/play button again to resume, I heard talking that sounded like a talk-radio program and I couldn't turn it off, even when I turned off my iPad.

Does anyone know what would cause me to start hearing a talk program of some type after hitting the play button after it had been on pause.  Hitting the pause button shuts off the talking, but hitting the play button starts it up again.  The strange thing is that the talking continues even after I turn off my iPad. The talk program was about silly or trendy news items, not regular news.  It sounds like it could be a talk-radio program, but there were no call letters or information on where it was coming from or who was talking.  The person doing all the talking is a male and sounds like he could be in his 20's.  The only way I could turn it off was to hit the pause button and then turn off my iPad. I just got my iPad last week and had not had any problems with it until this happened.  At the time this happened I was playing a version of Angry Birds that kept being interrupted by t-mobile commercials from time to time, which I had never experienced before. either.

Well, shut my mouth!  There was a similar question over to the right about a 6th generation nano repeating over and over again -- I read the answer to that one, followed the instructions, and holy crap, it's back to normal.
Is there a name for this when you end up replying to your own aggravating question?  That's what I did.  Now I can go out and listen.  It's only 91 degrees.  Heaven. Thanks, Apple.

  • Iphone dead. Was updating apps. Put the phone in my pocket. Minutes later heard a steady buzzing sound. It was my phone. I tried to turn it off: no luck.   It then went dead.

Just finished making a phone call.  Noticed I needed to update apps.  Started that. Put the phone in my pants pocket. Minutes later heard a steady buzzing sound. It was my iphone. I pressed the phone, the screen was black. I tried turning it off from the top: it would not turn off. It kept buzzing. The Iphone went dead. Any ideas?
    thanks,

I had a similar issue where my iPhone just died on me even though it had plenty of battery left. I was told to do a hard reset by holding the lock and home buttons down together for 15 seconds. When I did my phone came back on and worked normally.

  • In application builder the top level vi is always set to "run when opened"; how do I turn this off so I don't have to change it each and every time I build a .exe??

I build a lot of executables using Application Builder under LabVIEW and in every one I build, I don't want the top level vi to take off and run when I open the executable. Currently, I edit each .exe I build within Application Builder and change the option of "run when opened" from Yes to No for the top level vi. All the other subvi's are already set to No. It would seem as though there should be some way to "turn this off" if you will so the top level vi is not always set to "run when opened" by default within Application Builder. Is there such a solution that anyone knows of?? Any help would be apprec
    iated... thanks...

Indeed the Application builder forces "run when opened" to true for top levels VIs. If you don't want your VI to make any real work when the application starts, you should simply put a do-nothing loop in the beginning of the VI that will loop until the user presses a boolean. It will be more intuitive for users to press a Run button on the FP than clicking on the white Run arrow in the bar.

  • All sounds re-directed to the bluetooth headset. Can I turn if off?

I have noticed that when I have a bluetooth device on & connected, all sounds (except phone ringer) are re-directed to the bluetooth device; so unless I have the bluetooth device in my ear I miss all notifications.
Is there a way to change this (other than not using a bluetooth of course)?
Any help would be much appreciated.

I have it paired to use the phone, but don't keep it plugged in my ear all the time, so when text of mail comes in all I get is vibration that I often don't feel.

  • QuickView uses EXIF data for preview, even when bogus. A plist to turn that off?

We moved to MBPs with SnowLeopard recently and just found that many downloaded images  usually from publicity or stock-photo sites - give distorted or no preview when we use QuickView (tapping the space-bar) on them in the Finder.
Some investigation showed that the distorted images have EXIF data tha has either been corrued or purposefully messed with. Here's an example where the QV preview widget opens to the width of the screen but at minimum height:
    Image width          : 4992
    Image height          : 6666
    Number of bits per component          : {8,8,8}
    Compression scheme          : uncompressed
    Pixel composition          : RGB
    Orientation of image          : 1
    Unknown tag (0)          : 0,0,3,0
X resolution          : 0.0 ppi (pixel per inch)
Y resolution          : 300.0 ppi (pixel per inch)
    Image data arrangement          : 1
    Resolution unit          : inch
Software          : Adobe Photoshop CS3 Macintosh
    File date and time          : 2009:02:20 15:47:58
    -- Exif IFD --          :
    Color Space          : Uncalibrated
Valid image width in pixel          : 2250
Valid image height in pixel          : 3000
    -- Thumbnail IFD --          :
    Compression scheme          : JPEG
X resolution          : 300.0 ppi (pixel per inch)
Y resolution          : 300.0 ppi (pixel per inch)
    Resolution unit          : inch
Offset to JPEG SOI          : 394
Bytes of JPEG data          : 3933
The EXIF data says the X resolution is 0.0ppi.
These files all open fine in Photoshop or Graphic Converter. Sometimes GC's resolution tool shows that the horizontal & vertical resolutions are different (300 x 0.3 for example) and I can correct it, re-save the jpeg image. and QV then previews them just fine in the Finder.
Most, however only have this bogus resolution in the EXIF data and evidently QuickView preferentially uses that info.
There are tools that can be used to simply carpet bomb the EXIF data of a batch of files, but most of it is useful to us so we'd rathr not rsort to that. Is there a QV plist where clever folks can edit it so QV uses the actual image resolution rather than what's in the EXIF data?
Incidentally, QV in Leopard ignored this data which is why we only now began to encounter images where QV is useless. Bogus EXIF resolutions have probebly been in image headers for years and we did not realize it until we found SnowLeopard's Finder payed attention to them.

I cannot get on line because it states it is already running. This has happened before and it tells me I should restart computer which works, but this weekend it has not worked and it keeps telling me it is still working. This is not the laptop that I am having trouble with that is why I can ask my question. The one with the problem is Windows XP.
