Microphone troubles

I am running Vista 32bit and have had some microphone troubles in the past few months. Several months ago my mic was working fine on my x-fi xtreme audio sound card. Vista updated one day, and my microphone stopped working. I checked all of the usual settings, it was still my default recording device, the levels were turned all the way up. I checked my microphone on another computer, it was fine. I removed all sound drivers from my computer and re-installed the latest drivers. Still no luck. So I assumed that my line in port had kicked the bucket. I now purchased a soundblaster audigy SE sound card hoping to fix my microphone problems. I removed all sound drivers intalled the new drivers. Checked all of the stuff i have already listed above, and the new mic port is still not working. Let me clarify what I mean when I say not working. I am testing the mic in the creative audio software by unmuting everything so it will shoot back through the speakers and also using windows recorder to make sure the mic is picking up nothing. Its not turned down really silent, literally nothing is being picked up. It says the mic is in working condition in the windows recording devices menu, and the sound card is shown to be performing flawlessly in device manager. What am I missing

Alright well I re-installed the driver for the quick buttons, but it didn't work. Still having the same two problems. No Microphone. And the orange light is stuck on orange and I can't get any sound out of my computer. If I mute and un-mute it from the mixer at the bottom left side of the computer, it still doesn't work.

I am having microphone trouble on my Mac Book Pro during face time.  Others cannot hear me.  Microphone symbol has a line through it but will not allow me to change from muted to unmuted.  "Mute" under Video tab is greyed out and internal microphone is selected.  System Preferences show that internal microphone is working.  I have tried to restart computer, no difference.  Does anyone have a suggestion?

When you have kernel panics, the pertinent information is in the panic report.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". Select the most recent one. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.

  • Microphone troubles / Audigy

Like rest of the forum i to have problem with silent microphone input in Vista/XP with my Audigy SE. Driver reinstallation restores it until reboot. It is plain to see that this is driver problem. For me crucial because of sick hands and now my speech recognition refuse to recognize almost all the time. It took ages and alot of pain to type this message. So Creative please get a grip and fix it! Otherwise good card with no functional input.

Looks like there's a couple of us with the same issue.
I've just bought the Sound Blaster Audigy Value, and i must admit i'm very impressed with the quality of the sound, but, i have a major problem with getting my microphone to pick up anything. i've tried a number of different devices i know work, i've checked the ports, i've tried them all, but the mic just refuses to pick up anything at this point in time. If anyone has any idea on how to fix this issue your input would be very much appreciated. I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium.
    Looking forward to a reply.
    Thanks.

Ok then .... does your pc have an HDAudio codec? Lately it seems most problems related with alsa come from the combination alsa + hdaudio codec, if this is the case the only possible solution I can think of is trying to load the module and tell it to use another laptop model, if that works then just add the "fix" to modprobe.conf.
The other option is to give OSS a try if that doesn't cause problems for any of the programs you use.
Check this if you have an hdaudio codec as most probably what you need is explained there

  • Samsung Brightside, Microphone Troubles.

Hello, I've had my Samsung Brightside since late May of 2012. I've never experienced any problems with it until today. My microphone does not appear to be working anymore during calls. No one can hear me when I call or receive a call, but I can hear them. However, my voice command works fine. I am wondering if this is a glitch that I can resolve or if it is an unfixable problem. If you could help me, that would be great! Thanks.

        Hi amyo123,
I am sorry to hear your device is not working. Do you run any 3 party apps on the device? How long does it hold a charge after completely? Check to make sure the device is not running any apps that can drain the power.
    Thank you!

  • HP 255 LAPTOP (Windows 8) MICROPHONE CANNOT BE MUTED---NEED HELP A.S.A.P!!!

    Re: HP 255 microphone troubles.
Sorry! I typed "Windows XP" in the original heading, My bad!
    NEED HELP IMMEDIATELY!!!
When I click on the Sound Icon in the lower right corner of the screen and select "Mixer" THERE IS NO MICROPHONE CONTROL!
I've gone into the Control Panel searching for it, typed "microphone" in the "Search" box at the upper right of the screen and...NOITHING!
THE MICROPHONE IS CAUSING A NASTY UNGROUNDED-LIKE SOUND WHICH IS QUITE LOUD.
I CANNOT RECORD VOICE OVERS (MY BREAD & BUTTER) WITH THIS INTERFERENCE! The internal microphone MUST BE MUTED/DISABLED OR DELETED!!
How do I go about doing this? I have deadlines to meet. This is a matter of utmost importance!
Your reply via Email would be appreciated greatly.
    Thank You!,

  • My voice sounds like helium

Hi, everyone. To compensate for my Mac microphone troubles, I hooked up my mic to a wheezing Linux laptop and recorded a WAV of my voice. I imported it to Garage Band, but when I played the track my voice sounded as if I had just inhaled a large quantity of helium. Evidently, while trying to get my microphone to work a few nights ago, I modified some setting which caused this, without knowing I'd done it.
Any ideas as to how I might be able to fix this?

I don't have an answer for your question but I just had to tell you the title made me laugh for an hour. Usually it's me saying my voice sounds like something other than helium! I want you to know, you made my day. Music is awesome!

  • Autotune Troubles with Microphone

    Hello guys!
I recent bought the M-AUDIO USB Producer microphone from AVID an I got some troubles with Garageband 11 and Logic Pro X.
The microphone itself works like a charm, it's a wonderful microphone, but every single time I try to record a song with autotune efx he (the autotune) increases the volume and the sound gets distorced. If i turn off the autotune efx the recording looks like a studio, but when i turn it on, he ''destroys'' the voice. What's going on?? HELP ME!!!!
    Thank you!

Have you made any progress with this? I have had what sounds like a similar issue when upgrading from 3.1.1sp2 to 3.2.2.
    Keep us posted :-)

  • Trouble with microphone + audigy

    Hello,
    My first time.
Anyways, I have a soundblaster audigy 2 ZS which I have to say kicks arse. It makes my games and music sound great, it was all tinny before this card.
Now my problem is that I've purchased a cheap $0 microphone made by General Electric. So I plugged it into the proper jack in my sound card as shown in my quick start manuel. But I cannot record any sound. I tried the sound recorder from windows (I run windows 2000) and toyed with the creative sound stuff, but couldn't get a handle on anything nor record any sound through my microphone. Does anyone have an answer to my troubles or any advice?
And though the mike is plugged in through the sound card, it won't be registered as new hardware. Dunno if that matters.
    Thanks in advance
    GRK
EDIT: Ahh, found my answer on page 3 or 4 of this forum. Go to surround mixer and turn up the mike settings. Solved.Message Edited by GuiltyRoach on 05-08-2005 04:07 AM

  • Trouble with internal microphone and display

    Hello together,
I just installed Arch on my Laptop yesterday. Everything works fine now, except for two things:
    1) The internal microphone does not work at all. I already checked all settings in alsamixer/amixer and I also tried this, but it won't help.
    2) After a reboot, the display brightness is always reduced. When I press the button to raise it again, nothning happens. When I press the button to lower it instead, it raises to the full brightness. This is a little strange and annoying, but not too important.
Does anyone have an idea how to fix that?
I would be grateful for any help.
    cthl
    EDIT:
I got the microphone working now, I was just a bit confused about the alsamixer/amixer settings.

WonderWoofy wrote:Is that feedback?  Are you sure it is not just the hum of your machine?  I think of feedback as the screech you get when your mic actually starts picking up the output of the speakers.
Perhaps you're right - if so, I certainly didn't get as much background noise before. Any idea how to improve the situation?
