Microphone works but people cannot hear me over the phone

I know my microphone works well. I can record videos, and voice messages and it works fine. However, any time I talk to someone over the phone, they can't hear me well, like I'm miiiiiiiiiiiiiles away. Does anyone know what the problem could be? Settings, maybe? Help

I have an iphone 5. Speaker works but I cannot hear through the apple earbuds. Tried multiple earbuds and none work. But they work in our other iphone 5.  Has anyone been able to resolve this without pursuing a replacement ?  If so what was the fix?

You're not using a supported carrier. What did you think Apple was going to tell you?
As fizzDripper suggests, contact the SIM card provider. How to make an unsupported SIM work on your phone is not Apple's problem.

  • People cannot hear me at the start of our call on the Iphone 4s?

People cannot hear me at the start of our call on the Iphone 4s. What could be the problem? IOS? Home button? Lag when I swipe?
ONLY when I am getting a call, I will swipe the home button and the awnser option will lag a little bit, therefore the caller cannot hear me right away. After saying "Hello" the second time, everything returns to normal. I have tried everything and I am not sure what the problem is? It cannot be hardware since Skype, Memo, Facetime, all work perfectly. Everyone on these threads has the problem from both sides, while I only have it when I receave calls. I have tried it with head-phones and it does not fix the problem. What can I do? Will it be fixed in the upcoming IOS?
Although its a small problem that doesn't effect other parts of my phone, I would like to find someone who faces the same problem.
    Thanks

  • Callers cannot hear me on the phone

I've had a problem with my Samsung Galaxy SIII almost since I purchased it a few months back. When on a phone call, people cannot hear me unless I use an external headset or Bluetooth. Occasionally using speakerphone works, but as time goes on, that works less frequently. Please help!

        KilroyLeges,
Thank you for reaching out to us. I am sorry to hear of your troubles with your device. We certainly want you to always have a working phone. It sounds like you have a broken internal speaker. Are you still under warranty or have insurance on the device? Is their any damage to the phone? If none, then you should be able to get a replacement device. You can try to do a factory reset to see if the issue is possibly stemming from an internal application issue, but more then like it is from the speaker. Keep us updated on this information so we can figure out the next steps to take.
    Thank you,

  • My iphone can make calls and receive them, but i cannot hear anything on the other end.  Anyone ever have this problem?

    any suggestions?

I had this same problem, but it seems to have disappeared after I discovered that Bluetooth was on and turned it off (General menu in the Settings app).

  • I have an iphone4 that is 2 and 1/2 yrs old and the volume buttons on the side of the phone no longer work, therefore I cannot hear people who call me very well unless I use a handsfree and also when listening to music or watching footage, I cannot alter

My iphone4 is 2 and 1/2 yrs old, works fine other then the volume buttons just stopped working all of sudden. This function not working means I cannot hear people very well when they call because I cannot turn the volume up and when watching footage i.e. music video or film, I cannot turn volume up or down. This has meant I cannot use my phone like I used to, therefore not fit for purpose. Questions is - Is Apple, under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 obliged to repair/replace my phone for free?
When I went into my Bromley store today I was told because the phone is not under the 12 month warranty Apple could not help me or I could pay in excess of £100 to get phone repaired, is this right?

So basically if a iphone has a fault after the 1 year warranty period is over, there is nothing the consumer can do but purchase a new phone??
Pretty much. Except that Apple will replace it for a fixed fee that is far less than the cost of a new phone. In the US the replacement cost for an iPhone 4 is $149. It is comparable in the UK. Unless you can prove that the fault was present at the time of purchase. A switch wearing out would probably be considered normal wear and tear, not a "fault".

  • People cannot hear me... but I can hear them

I am having a problem with my phone, when people call me, I can hear them, but they cannot hear me...any suggestions.  I have restored my phone and I am still having issues.

    Hello,
i have the same issue and as i can see in the internet many people have the same problem.
Since i tried to find a solution and i could not, i started observing when i had the issue and i discovered that this most probably happens due to temperature increase. I live in a hot country during the summer and the problem appeared when the temperature was high and also i had use my phone alot playing around with apps.
The problem was happening randomly but once it happened i immediately put my iphone to the refrigerator for 5 minutes and then i could make calls succesfully again.
Please try to observer yours as well in order to confirm that this is the problem

  • HT4515 Just tried to place a call on my new iPhone5S.     I can hear the person I'm calling, they cannot hear me.    The microphone icon has a line through it, but tapping the icon does not make a difference.

Just tried to place a call with my new iPhone.  I can hear the person I'm calling but they cannot hear me.     There is a line across the microphone icon, which I took to mean muted but nothing changes when I tap it.    What am I doing - or not doing?

is your mute switch turned on (above the volume) ?  remove case and screen protecter.
    is volume turned up?

  • If people cannot hear me when on FaceTime, is it my IMac microphone?

All of a sudden when I am on Skype or on FaceTime from my IMac, people cannot hear my voice.  I attempted to look at my audio settings.  Then, realized that I have audio when downstreaming a movie, or playing Itunes.
Is that an indication that my microphone has failed??

When you see the same issue on more than one hardware device, it means that the problem is likely to exist outside of the hardware.  Two things to investigate would be the software/firmware on the backup and issues with the cellular network.  It's probably safe to rule out the cellular network as well.
First, make sure that you have imported copies of all the information (pictures, videos, documents) on the device.  Do this thorough itunes, and the applications (photographic and document processing) on your computer.  Perform a firmware update then restore the device as new.  If the problem persists, then you may actually have the worst luck and discovered two devices with an identical issue.
Read each of the steps before initiating the DFU.
!.  Connect the iPhone to any computer running a fully updated version of iTunes.
    2. Press and hold both "home" and "sleep/wake" buttons
    3. After eight seconds let go of only the sleep/wake button.
    4. Keep holding the home button until you see a popup mesage in iTunes.
    5. Read all all the popups, then use iTunes to update the iPhone's software.
If the popup fails to show, repeat steps 2 through 4
