Microsoft 2004 not supported on my iMac.
I loaded Microsoft Office 2004 on my new Imac and it says that it doesn't support PowerPC anymore. What does that mean?
If you have Office 2004 it is a PPC-only suite and will not work with Lion. I suggest upgrading to Office 2011 - www.mactopia.com - or you may try a freeware suite, Libre Office, that provides most of the functionality of Office 2007 for Windows but works on the Mac.

Short Slo Mo video imported to Aperture or iPhoto via cable (Air Drop not supported on my iMac): only the SloMo section imports. Not the rest. Any fixes?
Okay, as I'm working through this I see that I have to add the "Admin" account to each file with "read only" permission. Simply changing the "everyone" account access does nothing.
So how do I change the permissions settings in iPhoto or Aperture to give each exported file the desired permissions? I cannot locate a setting in the iPhoto or Aperture applications.
Also, I added a password to the user account. It did not change how files are output. -
Why is my Office 2004 not supported anymore?
OS Lion should be the best system?! Why is my Office 2004 not supported anymore?
I don't need an Office update,
If you're running OS X 10.7 you do.
I just still like to use my old software.
If you llke old software and don't need new features (MS Office has made a lot of improvements in 7 years), then I do not understand why you upgraded OS X.
Office 2004 was now shut down by apple
No, Apple no longer supports PowerPC Apps. There is nothing preventing M$ from releasing a free update to Office 2004 convering it to a Universal or Intel App.
they should inform also about the thkngs not workinv anymore.
Apple did, 6 years ago:
The Apple–Intel transition was the process of changing the CPU of Macintosh computers from PowerPC processors to Intel x86 processors. The transition became public knowledge at the 2005 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), when Apple Inc. CEO Steve Jobs made the announcement that the company would make a transition from the use of PowerPC microprocessors supplied by Freescale (formerly Motorola) and IBM in its Macintosh computers, to processors designed and manufactured by Intel, a chief supplier for most of Apple's competitors. -
I tried to restore my iMac with my MacBook pro CDs but it's seem it got restored but it say this cd is not supported on this iMac, What could I do to take out the disk?
Also, if you have Lion on the computer. You have a recovery partition on the drive. On startup hold down 'Control' to bring up your startup menu. Select "Recovery HD". That's how you get to it. Lion's recovery partition acts as the installation discs that came with all previous versions of OS X.

ICloud Lion $29.99 MS Office 2004 not supported $$$
Holy Crap! I joined iCloud feeling the clock ticking. Then I learn I need the $29.99 OS upgrade to Lion to support iCloud and I oblige. NOW, I learn MS Office 2004 is not supported! Feeling a little baited here. Can't open any of my .doc's! Any advice before I go out and drop another C-note on software that worked to suit my needs a day ago!!! Contemplating a timemachine restore, but then I'm back to iCloud > Lion $29.99.... ...and my iphone won't sync without iCloud, right?
Is there a free download to upgrade 2008 up to 2011?
No
Office 2004 is 8 year old software developed at a time when Apple didn't use Intel processors. Don't you think an upgrade is more than justified?
Apple provided a free solution, Rosetta, that lasted up to Lion's release in Aug 2011.
In theory, Microsoft could have provided a free upgrade to support Intel processors in the Mac, but they chose not to do so. They chose to offer Office 2008, a profit making upgrade. -
Mac Lion and Microsoft Office Not Supported
I just updated my Mac Pro with 10.7.2 and now won't support Microsoft Office 2004. How come or what can I do? I can't access documents, spread sheets, power point.
Lion does not support Rosetta which is required to run PPC-only applications. You can upgrade to Office 2011 that works with Lion. Or you can try a free suite similar to Office 2007 for Windows - Libre Office.

Apple hardware test does not support this machine, iMac 27" mid 2010
Hi, I have a mid 2010 iMac 27inch with OSX Maverics updated to the very latest version.
I need to hardware test my mac but I am finding it impossible. If I press D at bootup, nothing.
Option D, loads hardware test, but it comes back saying:
"Apple hardware test does not support this machine."
I don't have the original install disk for the mac and it has been updated several times online to the latest version. What am I supposed to do in this instance? That Mac model requires the original system disk to run AHT. You can call Apple at 1-800-MYAPPLE, and ask for an operating system specialist. Then you can request replacement system disks for your computer. The cost us usually under US$20.
Have your serial number at hand; it is required for the techs to find the correct disk set for your model. -
Superdrive not supported by my iMac
I have a 24 inch mid 2007 iMac with 2.8GHz intel core duo processor and 4GB 667 MHz DDR2 S DRAM memory. OSX 10.9.5. I want to use an SuperDrive but i am getting a message that this computer does not support Superdrive. Is there an update that I can download?
If this is the Apple made external optical drive, it only works with newer Macs that no longer have a bulit-in Super Drive.
Return this for a full refund.
If you need an optical drive that works with your year and model Mac, look at these.
Not all optical drives are Mac compatible.
Most Mac compatible drives you will only find to be purchased online.
Here are two on Amazon.com that are cheap and Mac compatible

Here's another source for Mac compatible optical drives. These are better quality optical drives.
These are also tray loading drives.

Macromedia Flash MX Professional 2004 not running on Intel iMac
SIGH. This is added to the enormous list of problems I've had with my new Intel iMac.
I'm a pro user and am confused as to why Dreamweaver MX will run but I can't get Flash MX 2004 Professional to run. It starts up, loads fonts and what not, shows a blank timeline for the new document as it should and as soon as the GUI for Flash comes up ka-boom it crashes.
Then I get the general "unexpectedly quit" notification.
Anyone else having this problem? Is Rosetta a synonym for Lucifer?
This is what the error says if it's of any use to anyone:

0x1000 - 0x2fff LaunchCFMApp /System/Library/Frameworks/Carbon.framework/Versions/A/Support/LaunchCFMAppI'm on a Mac and don't had this problem. But I do watch for
video issues on this site and haven't seen this – I might
have missed a few, but most Flash users are on Windows so I think
it would be common if it were something wrong with Flash in
general.
Then again, what do I know? Because the more I'm thinking
about it the more I think I might have had this problem. But I
really can't remember. And sorry to say the solution was to not use
the import function to edit my videos.
You also might want to just see if it is the format of the
file you are importing. Perhaps a different source will work
better? I'm just grasping at straws here.
If you have many of these to do and a budget I suggest
getting a third party tool like Squeeze. Otherwise if you have some
third party editor you might want to use that.
Good luck! -
I've downloaded the Mountain lion software and now Microsoft Word won't open...because " Power PC applications are no longer supported." How can I retrieve my word, excel, ect documents?
Thanks.
CarolduOffice 2004 Applications Won't Work in Lion
You must have Office 2004 which is a PPC-only suite and will not work in Lion. You need to upgrade to Office 2011 - Mactopia - or you can try the freeware suite, Libre Office, that is functionally similar to Office 2007 for Windows except it works on Lion.
You may want to consider as well:
These two suites are similar to Libre Office but not as current or as well-supported:
NeoOffice
Open Office
And, then there is Apple's iWork suite:
Pages - word processing and layout
Keynote - presentation
Numbers - spreadsheet
Each can open and save Office compatible files. They may be purchased separately via the Mac App Store for $19.99 each.
(Access to the Mac App Store requires Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or higher and an Apple ID.) -
My hard drive died without backup, so I have been re-downloading all my files. I tried to download Firefox, but my computer can't support it. It is Intel based. Can I get an older version that will be compatible with my OS 10.5..8 ?'''
You posted here with a PPC Mac, it that the same PC that you need Firefox for?
Firefox 3.6.x is the last available from Mozilla for PPC Macs. <br />

If you have an Intel Mac with 10.5.8, you can use the newest versions of Firefox. <br />http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

Pages software in 10.8.3 does not support previous work done on microsoft office 2004. Pop up says -- You can't open the application "Mircosoft Excel" because Power PC applications are no longer supported. What can I do now?
Use Numbers, OpenOffice, LibreOffice, Microsoft Office 2008 or newer, Google Docs, or similar tools to open the files.

My Microsoft Word 2004 is not supported..should I upgrade to 2011?
I can not open my Microsoft Office 2004 since Lion does not support it. Can I upgrade to Mocrosoft office 2011?
It is worth noting, however, that if you use Entourage in Office 2004 you will NOT be able to import messages into Office 2011 running on Lion. This is because Office 2011 must be able to run Entourage in order to import the messages. So you must upgrade to Office 2011 on Snow Leopard first, and then upgrade to Lion.

I just installed Lion on my iMac, tried to open an Office Document and received a message " You can't open the application Microsoft Word because PowerPC applications are no longer supported." My version of Office Professional is not that old - is there a fix for this? The $29 upgrade to Lion is not worth having to replace my software.
Your version of Office dates back to 2004 before there were Intel Macs. Lion does not support PPC-only applications such as Office 2004 so you need to upgrade it to Office 2011 which is compatible with Lion.
You will have this same issue with any other older PPC-only applications, so they, too, will need to be updated. -
Can't open F-Fox 4 in my iMac G5 w/PowerPC CPU; icon says "not supported on this system"
I have a somewhat old iMac G5 with what I believe is a Power PC CPU. I have used Firefox as long as I've had this. I just downloaded the new Firefox 4, and it shows a classic "NO" symbol (slashed circle) over the new Firefox 4 icon. When I click on the icon I get: "You cannot open the application "Firefox" because it is not supported on this system."
Must I go into mourning? Has CPU old age finally caught up with me? I LOVE Firefox; I hate Microsoft. Must I abandon my true love? There is a third party version of Firefox 4 that runs on OS X 10.4/10.5 and PPC Macs, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox
The latest official version that works on OS X 10.4 and PPC Macs is Firefox 3.6.16 available from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
