Microsoft advisor tells me there is a free update for Adobe, but where?

I am running Adobe Professional version 8.3.1. and, having run Microsoft's upgrade advisor for moving from XP Pro to Windows 7 it tells me I need a free upgrade for this software.
Having spent an hour on the Adobe site from following the link provided by Microsoft I have given up!
Can anyone tell me where it is please?

AA8 is currently at 8.3.1. There are 2 methods for doing an update, Help>Updates and go to http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Windows. However, you are currently at the maximum update. AA8 is not supported by Adobe for Win7, but many have been successful with Win7-32bit. The success reports for Win7-64bit can be counted on a hand and I am not sure I can conclude it works properly on that system. The only way to be sure is to try it.
The other option is to upgrade (this is not a free option). The current upgrade is to AA XI as already mentioned. On upgrades you need to be careful that you do not lose the option to upgrade at some point. The current upgrade requires AA8 at a minimum for $199.00 from the Adobe store.

    Hi Guys,

There are no specific updates for Lion or Mountain Lion. The Office updates are for all OS's.
    Go here: http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads
Then, click on the version of Office that you have. It will list the updates that are available.
Also click on Additional Tools. Download and install the update for Auto Updater.
Note that Microsoft's updates for Office are usually not cumulative, so you must install them all in order.
The Auto Update app will find the ones you need and install them.
From any Office App, go to the Help menu and select "Check for Updates." It will open the AutoUpdater.
The current version is in /Library/Application Support/Microsoft/MAU2.0

  • My daughter had an update for itunes which she did. She said that there was also an update for ipod but it had told her it failed. However, now when she connects USB cord it tells her she must restore. Is she going to lose everything on the device.

My daughter had an update for itunes which she did. She said that there was also an update for ipod but it had told her it failed. However, now when she connects USB cord it tells her she must restore. I am assuming that it updated to IOS 6. Is she going to lose everything on the device if she goes ahead and restores it? She does not have anything backuped in the cloud as she was not aware that this update would cause this issue.

If her iPod was backed up, she will lose the data on the iPod, but it could be restored from the backup.

  • ICloud tells me I need to sign up for iCloud, but where can I do that?

iCloud tells me I need to sign up for iCloud, but where can I do that? It is installed on my PC, and I have an Apple ID. The iCloud setup page does not explain simply how to sign up for iCloud. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Taken from the main screen of the iCloud.com website:
"To use iCloud, first set it up with your Apple ID on a device with iOS 5 or a Mac with OS X Lion."

  • I keep getting a popup window saying there is an important update for FireFox but when I click on "More information about this update" it doesn't show anything. It seems suspicious so I have not downloaded or installed it.

Any thoughts...?? Anyone have this issue and have an answer to it...???

There is a security update for Firefox (Firefox 10.0.2) which you should apply. Unfortunately, it looks as if the updater on your Firefox is messing up somehow.
The easiest way to work around this and get you secure is to go to [http://www.getfirefox.com www.getfirefox.com], and download the latest version of Firefox there. After it downloads, go ahead and run the installer over your current Firefox. None of your settings will be changed, but it will apply the security fix, and you will be all good to go!

Um, let's review the replies so far, from top contributors:
"No one here can speak for Apple so it is impossible to say for sure."
"I am hoping for an Aperture 4, but will not speculate"
"Nobody qualified to say could/would say anything here about Aperture 4."

No, it is asking you to register with your Amazon user id and password. Your Apple ID won't work.

  • I have Mac OS X 10.6.8 (10K549) and there is free update for Maverick will I have problems since there were no free updates prior to this?

I have Mac OS X 10.6.8 (10K549) and there is free update for Maverick will I have problems since there were no free updates prior to this? I just do not want to loose any data. Thank you for your help.

you should always make a backup of data regularly, especially when upgrading to a higher version of OS X.  Just because it's free has no bearing on it giving anyone any problems.  The only concern you may have is not all older programs will work with 10.9 that do with 10.6.  Check here to see if you have any programs that would not run in 10.9: https://tidbits.com/article/12156

  • Trying to download the new itunes but it tells me there are "No software updates"

I am attempting to download iOs6 for my iphone, and it is prompting me to first download itunes 10.6.3. However, when I click "download itunes" I am brought to the software updates window, and am prompted that there are no new updates for my computer! I have tried to do this from both the apple drop down and itunes. When I attempt to download iOs6 on my phone, I am not connected to a suitable wireless connection (yay college campuses) so I cannot do it that way either. Anyone have a solution for downloading itunes? I have restarted my computer multiple times! Thanks!

It  go thru the whole install and bails at the end with this error:

  • Is there a 64 bit install for Adobe Reader?

    Hello,
I want to make a note that I did a search on the form, using the following text
"Is there a 64 bit install for adobe reader?"
And I did not find my answer.  That is why I'm posting this as a question.
So, with that out of the way....
I am getting ready to build a new computer for myself, and will be running Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit.  Before I begin, I want to make sure I have all of my software that I want installed, and I am doing research on each program to see if there is a 64 bit version that can be installed.  What I would like to do is have as many as my programs that I install be 64 bit as possible.  I know that not every program will be 64 bit, but I did want to get as many of them as possible to be 64 bit applications.
As I do want a PDF reader on my computer, and I have used Adobe Reader for years, I started looking on the web site to download the current version.  However, I did not see any place that I could download a 64 bit version of Adobe Reader.
That is why I'm here asking.  Is there a 64 bit version of Adobe Reader that I can download?  If so, where is it on the web site?
This does lead me to a follow up question.  Is there a 64 bit version of the Flash Player, as well as the Shockwave player?  If so, where can I download them from as well.
    Thanks in advance,

Again, I think you need to check the Microsoft web page, as I was able to find 64 bit versions of IE8 for download.
The URL to access the page is
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/internet-explorer/downloads/ie-8
From that page, I am able to select a 64 bit version of IE 8 for the following Operating Systems
      -- Windows XP 64 Bit
      -- Windows Vista 64 Bit
      -- Windows Server 2003 64 Bit
      -- Windows Server 2008 64 Bit
Windows 7 is not listed as an option as it already comes with IE8 installed by default.
Looks to me that Microsoft has already released a 64 bit version of IE8.
In fact, I went ahead and downloaded IE8 for Windows 2003 Server x64 bit, and looked at the details of the file.  Each microsoft download has a digital signature associated with them, showing a date and time of when the exe was built.
According to what is shown below, IE8 for Windows Server 2003 has been around since Sunday, March 08, 2009.
So, what has adobe been doing since March of 2009?  IE8 has been 64 bit for well over 2 years now (it will be 3 in March of 2012). While I know that it does take time to develop new applications, I don't think it would take 3 years for Adobe to come up with a 64 bit version of Reader that could have been built under the 64 bit platform.

  • Is there any upcoming software updates for the version 10.5.8? Also how do I backup my mac?

I really want to update my mac to the new version of Snow Leopard or Lion but to my understanding I must buy the disks to update it. However I feel like buying a macbook pro to my replace my mid-2009 white macbook, once I graduate so I could use it for college (which is 2 years from now and I'm saving up for it).
Also how do I backup my mac (hardrive)? I'm quite lost. I'm told that I must use Time Machine, but how? Do I use a CD to back up? Some external drive and if yes where could I buy one?
P.S. I'm a newbie with tech stuff. I'm no genius with it so I suggest to take it slow with me. PLUS there's no Apple Store here to help me out.
    My quetions in a nutshell:
    1) Upcoming software updates? *secretly wishes they were FREE*
    2) Backing up my hardrive?

There will be no updates for 10.5. it's been out of production for 3 years. You can order a Snow Leopard 10.6 install disk for $29 as long as you have at least 1gb of RAM and 5gb of free space on your hard drive.  http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY
You can upgrade from 10.5 to 10.6 with no problems. Any program that runs under 10.5 should run under10.6. See this list for compatibility with 10.6: http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/  You might have to upgrade some drivers for printers, etc.... And you will have to install Rosetta if you have any third party Power PC applications http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/snow_leopard_installing_rosetta/
To upgrade your iLife and iWork. If you only want iPhoto or other single apps from iLife '11 you can get them from the App Store after you've upgraded to 10.6.6. iPhoto, iMovie or Garage Band for $15 each and Pages, Keynote or Numbers from iWork '09 for $20 each.
You can upgrade from 10.4 to 10.6 with no problems. Any program that runs under 10.4 should run under10.6.
Once you are at 10.6.8 you can buy Lion for $29 from the App Store. Lion will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly. As for third party programs see this list for compatibility with 10.7 http://roaringapps.com/apps:table Also Lion doesn't run any Power PC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Lion.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications.

The battery will run UP TO 7 hours.
The run time depends on what you are doing.
Anything that puts a heavy load on the CPU will reduce the run time.
There is a fixed amount of energy in a charged battery.
The faster you take energy out the shorter the run time will be.
    Turn off bluetooth.
Reduce backlight to as low as is comfortable for you.  I use level 5.
Watching video uses a lot of energy.

  • I currently have Leopard, and there are no longer updates for it. So I must upgrade to either Snow Leopard or Mountain Lion. Without doing so I cannot update my itunes, and my ipod is no longer compatile with my mac. How can I buy the upgrade

I currently have Leopard, and there are no longer updates for it. So I must upgrade to either Snow Leopard or Mountain Lion. Without doing so I cannot update my itunes, and my ipod is no longer compatile with my mac. How can I buy the upgrade, since I do not have access to the mac store as that comes with Snow Leopard? I went to Best Buy and they said neither Snow Leopard or Mountain Lion can be bought there.

Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
Whilst Apple have withdrawn Snow Leopard from their stores, you can still get it from Apple by calling 1-800-MY-APPLE (if you are in the USA) and they will supply the SL DVD for $20 for a single user, or $30 for a family pack that covers up to 5 Macs.  You can also purchase the code to use to download Lion from the same number (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard), or you can purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store - if you can run that:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
If you are outside the US call your national Apple Helpline:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
If you're in the UK, use this number: 0871 508 4400
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard.
To use iCloud you have to upgrade all the way to Mountain Lion:
