Microsoft DV AVI or Microsoft AVI?

Hey again guys.
When I export, I usually do the file type as Microsoft AVI, and the compressor Cinepak Codec by Radius.
Is it "better"(quality, time, size wise) to use Microsoft DV AVI with a different compressor such as DV NTSC or DV PAL?
Thanks for your answers!

> compressor Cinepak Codec by Radius
That's a horrible and ancient codec. Don't use it unless you have a specific requirement to use it.
> Microsoft DV AVI with a different compressor such as DV NTSC or DV PAL?
Just about anything is better than Cinepak or Indeo 3.2 -- but the exact compressor/settings you choose usually depends on your sourcess and your intentions. What is this file going to be used for? What is your target platform? Do you live in North America or Japan (NTSC) or somewhere else (PAL)?

  • Lost program icons Microsoft word 2008 and Microsoft excel 2008

Hi I accidently turned Microsoft excel 2008 and microsoft word 2008 into wads of trash that disappeared when I accidnetly clicked the icons and moved them from the dock into the internet box.  I talked to one person already but can't seem to get back to them and he suggested that I use MIcrosoft Office 2008 but hte problem is is that I don't have it anymore because I deleted the program from my computer a few days ago (yesterday or the day before)  I had originally bought hte program from Best Buy and downloaded it from a disc but  I can't find the disc anymore.  Do you know what  I can do to recover the programs I checked the applications, office (of course, and word and excel 2008 aren't there and they aren't in the trash I checked there too.  I thought that it might be on my back-up time machine?  And I also couldn't go to undo to change what happened.  Thank you.

Things just don't disappear. If you didn't put them in the trash, they must be there somewhere. Click the magnifying glass at the top right side of your screen and search for Microsoft Office and see if you can locate the folder. Also, I'm wondering if you actually installed office or if you were just running it from the downloaded .dmg file? When doing the search, keep an eye open for a Microsoft Office 2008 DMG file.

    Hi,
This issue may occur due to conflict with certain software\driver such as PDF add-ons or default printer software.
To resolve your issue, you can follow the methods below to delete the corresponding registry:
    1. Click Start , type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
    2. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.
    3. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data

  • AVI saved to avi

    Hi-
I am using MPEG Streamclip to trim home movies. When I save my .AVI clip in "Save As" it creates a .avi clip, and when in my MOVIES folder in my Finder, I do not see a thumbnail of the clip anymore, just a clip with the same title, but a lowercase ".avi" not the original ".AVI" uppercase letters.
I am a novice, so I am not sure which forum was correct to ask this question. I thought this forum might have some expertise in this subject. Eventually I want to take the trimmed clips and put them into iMovie to create a finished product. So, after I trim the movie, does it matter to iMovie if the clip is lowercase .avi or uppercase .AVI? and What happened to the thumbnail image. I just get a stock QT image as the thumbnail. Thanks for any help or ideas. I have the upgrade for iLife08 so I will be working with iMovie 08. Have a nice day, Tim

    Goozzie,
    No problem.
In Adobe parlance, Save is the process of actually Saving the PREL/Project file. In PrE parlance, the terms for outputting to an AV file would be Export (prior to version 7), Share (versions 7 - 10), and Publish+Share for PrE 11.
For a bit more background on the PREL, and on the Save functions (there are basically three versions, plus AutoSave), see this article: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3392837#3392837
When working in the Project (and especially with larger, more intricate Projects), I use all three versions of Save, depending on what I need to do.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

After some Googling, it does appear that Flip4Mac is causing the problem. It appears that once installed it assumes control over the codecs 'msmpeg4v1.component' and 'msmpeg4v2.component' which were probably decoding the VCM before F4M.
The solution should be to remove F4M and install those codecs. Do you have those codecs installed? Look in Library/QuickTime, see what codecs are installed and list them here. Select all the contents of Library/QuickTime, do a copy, and paste them in the 'Post Message: Reply' Window here.
    You could try installing this codec pack;
    http://www.cs.pdx.edu/~feelgood/opengl/codecs/FFusion.dmg
with the Flip4Mac codecs uninstalled and see if that helps. This codec pack includes the 'msmpeg4v1.component' and 'msmpeg4v2.component' codecs. Basically, you want to go back to the codecs you had installed before Flip4Mac. And you might want to restart the machine after making those changes.
Or you could use ffmpegX to convert the VCM AVI into a high bit rate MPEG4 AVI and then use QT to convert to DV. That appears to be what other people on this forum did in your situation. Do a search for 'VCM Image Codec' on this board and see what you find.
And you might want to Google "-Your Camera make/model- and Macintosh" and see what you find.

  • How DV-AVI is DV-AVI ?

I have a lot of old (from 1988 onwards) analog Video 8 tapes. The old Panasonic stopped functioning for a long time now, but I found a company that will digitize the footage. Because I want to edit it all in Prel, the format is going to be DV-AVI.
Now before I ask this to be done: does "DV-AVI" appear in various types? That would need a specific codec if I want Prel to import and handle the files? And if so, what codec(s) should I request this company to use?
Or is "DV-AVI" always the same DV-AVI, and is there nothing to worry about?
    Thanks for your comments
    Felix

DV is the codec (compression system) you want with your AVI. If you're getting a DV-AVI, you're getting what you need.
Now, there are two types of DV-AVIs (called Type 1 and Type 2, interestingly). They're virtually identical in content, and only a little Microsoft quirk separates them.
In fact, pretty much only Microsoft uses Type 1's.
All of which is more than you need to know.
So, yes. The short answer is a NTSC DV-AVI is an NTSC DV-AVI. If your digitizer is creating them from your old video, you're in.

  • [Microsoft Store][Profile][Billing] How Do I Change Country/Residence for Microsoft Account? Editing Your Microsoft Account Profile for Microsoft Store. SOLVED: Change Home Location

    Hello,
I am experiencing problems with using my Microsoft Account for billing and purchasing apps in Windows store.
I am using my old WLID that I've created several years ago, and I have obsolete information including my country residence there. Now when I go to
    https://billing.microsoft.com, I see that I have 2 profiles:
    Personal profile: US
    Business profile: Russia.
Now the problem is that I want my personal profile be changed to Russia as well. Having US in the profile makes it impossible to make purchases from Microsoft Store because Store does not allow for changing country when making purchases via PayPal.
    Currently I have this information:
I need the Country/Residence information to be changed to Russia. How do I do that?
    I am stuck.
How do I change country for my Microsoft Account?
If it's not possible, would I be able to continue using my Microsoft Account with old residence/country information while making purchases through a new Microsoft account where I have specified my current residence?
Or is it the same as with Windows Phone 7:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2692008
If yes, do I understand that I have to start all my 'virtual living' from scratch to use Microsoft Store? In other words, do I have to sign-in into Windows 8 with a new Microsoft Account that will have Russia specified as a Country/Region to purchase apps
    from Microsoft Store?
If yes, can I use this new account only for purchasing apps while continuing to use my old account or all purchased apps are strictly tied to this new Microsoft Account I will use for purchasing?
    Thank you.
Well this is the world we live in And these are the hands we're given...

    Hello,
    Thanks to
this post @ Microsoft Answers, I was able to make Microsoft Store use correct information of my current country residence.
//The drawback in my case was that I lost the possibility to pay with Paypal, although Paypal supports payments in Russia, and, most importantly, I lost access to US marketplace, all comments/reviews are now in Russian. What a bummer! Honestly, I'd
like to have access to US store... Seems like the only workaround it to switch Home location for the time I purchase an app and change back when the app is purchased.
To change the Country/region data used for Payment and Billing in Microsoft Store,
Press WindowsKey+W to show Start screen and focus on searching in
    Settings.
Type 'region' (without quotes) and open Region dialog box when found.
In the Region dialog switch to Location tab and change the country of choice in the
    Home location drop-down list.
Click OK to apply changes and make them effective.
Open Store and press WindowsKey+I to show settings charms then choose
    Your account.
In the Your account screen click Add payment method to configure your payment settings that will be used for purchasing apps from Windows Store.
    Notice Country/region value has changed.
This country will be specified in Country/residence within Payment and Billing in Microsoft Store app.
Well this is the world we live in And these are the hands we're given...

We are testing the operational system Windows Server 2008 r2 in one of our clients. This system does not accept the installation of the tool Microsoft ODBC for Oracle. We’d like to know how to install this Driver, once Microsoft’s webpage does not mention any help related to this issue (there is instruction only for the installation of MDAC). We’ve consulted discussion forums and all types of ocurrence on the Internet, but we started to think it’s a Bug of the version. Can you inform us what’s the solution for the problem?
We are looking forward to your answer.

We have installed it, but, notice that the Microsoft ODBC for Oracle driver is not listed.
It would be better for us to use the Oracle client, but, we do need to connect to Ticket Machines that are based on a Oracle v 8 database. (So, basically, if we use a 10g client trying to connect to a oracle 8 database, it will display the error: ORA-03134 Connections to this server version are no longer supported.)
It is not possible for us to upgrade the Oracle 8 database to current, so, we have to use the Microsoft ODBC for Oracle driver.
So, basically, we have a Oracle 8 database that we can not presently connect. (those machines are feeling abandoned)
Ideas? ThanksIf you insist on using the MS driver, you'll have to get that from MS. Why would you have expected it to come with an Oracle installation?
And to get the Oracle driver, you have to do a 'custom' installation and select the Windows components, as it is not installed with a default installation.
And all that aside from the very serious version compatibility issues.
