Microsoft excel bogging down my MacBook Pro

I am running Microsoft Excel 2008 for Mac on my 2012 MacBook Pro.  When I have excel open my computer bogs down to almost to a grinding halt.  Any thoughts on how to fix this?  I used to have to run MS Excel for compatibility with co-workers.  But I had a job change and I could probably get by 90% of the time running Numbers if that is the answer.
My MacBook Pro has the following specs:
Processor  2.5 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory  4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Software  OS X 10.9.5 (13F1066)

Weird.  If this were happening to me, I would check/reset the Energy Saver preferences having to do with startup scheduling and or automatic restart. I would also consider deleting associated preference files in /Library/Preferences. I would also try resetting the System Management Controller and/or resetting NVRAM and PRAM.

  • I shut down my macbook pro and now I started up and it started in the safe mode

I shut down my MacBook Pro yesterday and when I started up today, it keeps starting up in safe mode, what do I need to do?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Does your Mac start properly in safe mode? If so, try resetting the PRAM > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379 This will reset the "boot args", so OS X should start into safe mode. Also, you should verify that the storage of the computer is OK, so open Disk Utility, select "Macintosh HD" on the sidebar and verify the drive. If there's a problem, start in OS X Recovery (holding Command and R keys while your Mac is starting) and repair it

    Hi Everyone,

hmmm...how i hate myself for being such a careless person...
    PLEASE HELP ME...
    Thank you in advance.

How exactly did you shut down your laptop? Not a hard restart (holding down the power button), I hope... if that's the case, then it is extremely unlikely the file is still intact on your computer. If it is, it would be an image on your RAM, and it is time-and-resource-intensive to recover it if it is even there. RAM memory is disposable and always being written over. Sorry dude...
If it wasn't a hard restart, Keynote should have made a backup, unless you 'Force Close'd it.
It really all depends on how your mac was shut down.

  • I am trying to shut down my MacBook Pro but mail is preventing it from shutting down and it will not allow me to quit mail

Does anyone know of a way to force quit Mail.  It is preventing me from restarting or shutting down my MacBook Pro running Maverick iOS 10.9.
    Thanks.

    itsKeef,
You're having the same problem? Do you ALWAYS have to Force Quit Mail or will it sometimes just Quite when you select Quit? Which model MacBook Pro do you have (e.g., "15-inch Late 2011"), which version of OS X are you running and which version of Mail do you have?

    Yea,
I bought an original CRT iMac  two day's before  they were launched, which got the reseller into trouble, and had it replaced by APPLE.
This was a great learning process for me dealing with the glitches. :-)
I LOVE MAC. Now own 4 and on my 10th. in 15 years + 7  bought for family.

  • Microsoft Excel slowing down and other problems when SAP BPC EPM Add-in is installed

    Hello,
Our client is having some problems with Microsoft Excel (MS Office 2013) since the SAP BPC EPM Add-in was installed in their computers.
They are suffering from Microsoft Excel slowing down, even when not connected to SAP BPC (10.0 NW version).
For example, when opening two or more excel archives, not connected to SAP BPC, Microsoft Excel crashes and is restarted with errors.
Have you experienced something similar in other installations?
Thank you very much, and kind regards,

In relation to the previous post , we have to emphasize that we have installed in ours PC's:
    MS Office 2010  14.0.7116.5000  32 bit,
    EPM add-on version 10.0  SP20  (10.0.0.8993).

  • Why is it that after using I-Tunes then closing it I can't shut down my MacBook Pro

If I open I-Tunes then close it the next time I go to shut down my MacBook Pro it just sits there with a gray screen and a spinging wheel all night  It does'nt do that with any other app's

  • Mail won't close, can't shut down my MacBook Pro

    Dear Apple Community,
since 10.7.4 Mail won't close sometimes. I use mail sometimes in Full-Screen, sometimes in the standard mode. If I'm finished with Mail, I close mail using "cmd+w" & "cmd+Q" or "cmd+Q". The programm is closed (window is gone), but the little blue bubble stays under the Mail icon at the dock. If I want to shut down my MacBook Pro (early 2011) I get the message "Can't shut down. You have to end Mail."
This *****. Any suggestions for a fix?

I had this issue and got frustrated having to force quit all the time.
I usually quit all programs with shortcut keys.
MAIL now quits everytime if I just click Mail-Quit Mail
Don't use shortcuts to quit it and it will be fine

  • I have trouble shutting down my MacBook Pro using the normal way.

I have trouble shutting down my MacBook Pro, operating Mac OS X Snow Leopard. I click on the "Shut Down" button from the Apple Menu, the screen fades to blue and I get a scrolling wheel; this lasts up to more than two hours and I still don't get any result, so I end up holding down the Power Button until it turns off. Can somebody help me, please?

  • How to Cool Down a MacBook Pro most efficient?

    Hello,
I bought a MacBook Pro 13' a few days ago, and I'm very happy about the computer! Very good quality! I just have one little problem, when I'm gaming Flight Simulator, X-Plane, then my MacBook gets really hot. I know that there's methods to cool down a computer, but what's the best and most efficient methods to cool down my MacBook Pro 13' during gaming?
Hope some one is able to help ! Thank you !
    AMLaursen

No I just found it on Amazon, I have a Belkin one I picked up at a supermarket near home. I don't game but I find Skype get the computer hot so I use the cooler then.
The one I have brings the  temp down and the fans slow down as well.
I would have thought that they are all very much similar, just blowing air under the computer case, the Belkin ones leave a gap under the computer for the hot air to escape, not sure if that helps or not.

It is a case I think of getting one and trying it out.
