Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync issues

I am unable to add my office's Microsoft Exchange to my email acounts.
I get the following message: "There was an unexpected error and the operation was canceled"
here is the response i got from our offsite IT guy
"What modelof blackberry is it? From my understanding blackberry doesn’t support exchange based webmail without an intermediate server or a desktop application set up to sync to outlook. That’s the main reason they are going out of business. We have an entire BES server here at GQ just so that our one blackberry user is able to work.
Id have to do some research if it’s a newer phone, but in all of my past experiences android and apple have been doing phone email better for the last 8 or so years."
any suggestions before i return it?

Your IT guy has no clue about the new BlackBerry 10 devices (and no clue about BB going out of business either for that matter.) Your Q10 should connect EXACTLY like an iPhone or Android device using Exchange Active Sync. Do they have Active Sync enabled on your account? I've seen the same error message reported when people don't have AS enabled for their account.
They need a new BES10 server for BB10 devices. Your Q10 will not connect to their old BES 5 or older BES server. Have them contact BlackBerry for more info. Right now BES10 migrations are free from BlackBerry.

I had the same problem.  Here is what worked for me.  Open the mail app and delete your exchange account (Settings > Delete Account).  Then re-add your Exchange account.  After this my Exchange contacts showed up again.

  • Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync not working in Mobile Network – Blackberry Z10

Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync not working in Mobile Network – Blackberry Z10
I have set-up office email account in Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync this work only over office Wi-Fi not working outside of office Wi-Fi range. When I back to office all new e-mail loaded automatically. I have no problem with yahoo email setup in the same Z10 hand set work in both Wi-Fi and Mobile network. I have data plan with my carrier. Both emails were working in my previous Blackberry hand set Bold 9900. But with this New Z10 this become a problem
What could a the problem and I need help please

The URL you provided https://... does require SSL as it has a "s".
Have you tested the server OMA setup with a notebook or desktop (https://webmail.domain.com/OMA)?
You should receive a login prompt for username & password following by an Inbox listing of messages.
We used this step to verify server setup before configuring an iPhone. Lastly, we made certain that connectivity would work from outside or within our company by doing the following:
    1) created A record for webmail.domain.com to a public IP that route through the firewall on 443 to the Exchange server's private IP - this handles external traffice
    2) added an internal DNS record for webmail.domain.com to the private IP of the Exchange server.
This ensures that webmail.domain.com sync's to exchange from outside or from within the Enterprise.

  • Microsoft Exchange Server Issue

    Hello everyone,
After sitting around with my IT group yesterday we've ran into a slight issue setting up Microsoft Exchange. When you need to enter the server information it apparently has to be in the form of a domain name, e.g. ms.company.com. My company is telling me that we don't have a domain but rather connect to our server through an IP address. Is there any way to manipulate a host file and point it to the IP or some other work around so that I can recieve company email on my iPhone?
    Thank you.

I had the same problem when I first purchased the phone back in May. I had about 60,000.00 emails from the past 5 years in my main server at work  that I had not deleted. My IT guy told me that I had to delete my old emails and that the INC works from the main server and I had way over the amount that I should have. I work for a very busy RE firm in NYC and we get about 150 emails a day, which ads up fast. Once I dld as he suggested the phone has not had one problem w/ outlook or syncing again. The Iphone works in the exact same way.  BB's operate from their own server so are not as effected by this as much. The  phone  works great with outlook, and actually quicker and better than my BB. Good luck!!

  • Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync Error Message using VersaMail

    Device: Treo755p (Sprint), Palm Software
    Platform: Windows 2000, Outlook 2003
When I go to my work e-mail account using VersaMail, the following message appears:
IT Policy Update.  Your IT administrator has updated the password policy that applies to your phone.  Press OK to go to the Security application now.  You won't be able to sync with Exchange until you change your password.
When I click "OK," another message appears:
IT Policy Update.  Your administrator requires a password with at least 152 characters.
When I click "OK,", it takes me to the Security settings on my phone.  I've never set up a password on my phone before, so I don't know why this is happening.  I already checked with the IT guy and they haven't changed anything on the server.
I tried a soft reset and nothing happened.  I also tried to setting it up again as a new e-mail account, but Exchange ActiveSync isn't even an option when trying to pick the Mail Service.  So something is screwy with the phone/software.

Hello, I'm getting the same thing here, except I think I'm getting a better deal than some of you.  It's only asking me for a 118-character password.

  • Samsung S4 not syncing with Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync

I've had my Samsung S4 for several months and everything worked w/o issue until 12/13/2013 when Verizon did a software update "update_SCH-1545_MJ7_to_MK2".
Prior to this update, my phone was synced to my work account without any issues. For several years before that, I had other phones synced as well, all without issue. Since this update, all of my contacts/tasks/calendar work just fine.
The problem is with the email, I cannot get email to sync past 12/10/2013. The phone syncs up and loads emails dating back to 2007, but it will not give me any email past 12/10/2013. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling, changing push to every 5 minutes,
    resetting the phone. Nothing works.
I've spoken with our IT department, they can't figure it out. They referred me to Verizon. I've taken it to Verizon, no one there seems to have a clue. I even asked them to revert my phone to the prior software version, but they claim it's not possible.
One of the main issues I believe is the inability of the new software to allow me to access the port #'s being used. I recall the prior version of software to allow me to change these, the new version does not allow or even show what port it's using.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I believe we are running Windows XP, unsure of the version of Outlook. We are a small city government, so newer software (2007/2010/2013) is highly unlikely anytime soon.

It looks like Sean Greenlee's response was spot on. My IT guy found an article on removing the phone partnership.
Per him, "You can use the remote wipe command to delete
a mobile device partnership from the Exchange server. This action, which is primarily useful for "housekeeping" purposes, will delete from the Exchange server all states that are associated with a specified device. If a user tries to connect a mobile device
to the Exchange server after the partnership between the mobile device and the Exchange server has been deleted, the mobile device user will be forced to re-establish the partnership with the Exchange server."
He completed the remote wipe today, I removed my account, re-started the phone and re-installed the account and everything seems to be working.
    Best of luck.

  • Xperia Z1: Problems with Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync - unable to open emails synced

I have tried setting up my corporate email on the native email app that comes with the Xperia Z1 and have faced problems. The account sets up without any problem and the emails, calendar, To Do, all sync without any problem. But, when I click on any email, I get the error - 'connection error (my email address)'.
I have successfuly been able to setup my hotmail account. I was also able to set up my corporate email account on Nitro Touchdown, and it works without any problems. I have tried removing the account and re-configuring it and the problem still persists.
    Can anyone help with this?

The problem you're having seems to be the same problem as the one described in this thread: http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z1/Exchange-Email-problem/m-p/379323 which we are investigating but it only seems to happen with some non Microsoft servers. Could you check what server you're using at your company?

  • Microsoft Exchange - email issues

There are 5 of us at work that have the Iphone 3G. I was the only one that already had an Itunes account and an apple laptop. After I connected the phone with my powerbook, all worked fine for about 12 hours. At that point my email account went blank (white screen on the Iphone) although my calendar and contacts were still on the phone. The longest I've went is 40 hours before it happened again. The others created Itunes accounts on our work computers and then synced the phone up and all has worked well. I'm the only one that is having a problem.
Yesterday, I downloaded Itunes to my work computer, erased everything on my Iphone and then synced it with my work computer. It worked for a whopping 10 hours before I got the white screen of death again. It has happened again today.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? I love the Iphone but it is getting old deleting my account on the phone and then resetting them again. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.
    Chris

    Hello Chris.
Is this only happening each and every-time the Exchange account is added?
I know you are in a business and rely on email. But if this is happening with Exchange. Could you possible test the iPhone without the Exchange account for a day and see if it does the same thing?
You state you restored iPhone. Did you restore from backup or as new iPhone? If you chose backup there is a possibility whatever it backed up that has been causing this was since returned.
Thanks for providing any extra info as well.

  • ActiveSync Issues - Emails remain unread on iPhones after marked as read in OWA/Outlook

    Environment:
    Exchange 2010 SP2 CU4v2
    iPhones with IOS 6.0+
    Background:
We've spent a couple weeks troubleshooting this since the vast majority of our users are not experiencing the email synching issue with their mobile devices. However, we have a few users that are remote (international) saying that activesync is not properly
marking mail as read when initially interacting with it via OWA/Outlook.
The problem isn't regularly reproducable -- it's sporadic.
    There are two issues really:
The mail icon indicates X number of unread messages, however when navigating into the mailbox on the phone, nothing is "unread" -- There is only one mailbox -- there is no confusion about unread mail being in a different account.
Mail marked as read in OWA/Outlook never gets marked as read in the mailbox on the iPhone.
    Steps Taken:
We've had them remove/readd the activesync account on their device, which initially solves the problem only for it to resuface.
We've asked them to change their activesync settings between Push, Fetch, and Manual.
Messages marked as unread always remain unread unless manually opened on the phone. No additional amount of time marks the message as unread unless it is manually opened on the phone.
We've asked users to try interacting with mail through wifi on a reliable network instead of their cellular network. Same results.
We don't have any other mobile devices to compare to since everyone is using an iPhone. If only someone had windows mobile.
Our thoughts are that this is due to some sort of latency issue that activesync is unable to handle, since only these remote users are experiencing the issue. Using in-office wifi the latency between their device and the CAS server is ~250ms. Over cellular
networks.. unknown. I would think the activesync could handle this.
Are there any server-side settings that can be changed on the exchange servers that could mitigate these problems?

Im sure more knowledgeable members will chime in here, but I would say the issue is in ios 6.0 here. The way to test would be if users on previous verison of ios have the same issue. There are various discussions on apples forums regarding ios 6.0 and activesync/
exchange. Myself personally I have not updated to ios 6.0 and im still using 5.1.1 and Ive not had any exchange/activesync issues. Being a windows user you tend to hold off on major updates / SP releases until the rest of the masses have discovered the flaws.
Likewise i cant say im keen to jump to ios 6.0 just yet.
    Good read here :

Out of interest what happens if you read the email/delete it from the phone ? does it show as being read within Microsoft Outlook ?

  • Exchange ActiveSync - Exchange server down

We had a situation this weekend where the Exchange store didn't come up properly after a restart. Apparently, there was a sync pending for one of the iPhones when this happened, as the Application log was quickly flooded with error messages:
Unexpected Exchange mailbox Server error: Server: [sbs2.xxxxxx.com] User: [[email protected]] HTTP status code: [503]. Verify that the Exchange mailbox Server is working correctly.
This error was being posted about twice per second. While the error log getting hammered isn't ideal, the bigger issue was that the user's phone was rapidly draining the battery from all of the activity.
Does anyone know if there is a way to prevent this in the future?

Hi..  Welcome to the Palm forums.  Well I will answer your questions as best I can.  First here is a link for the Administrators Guide for MicroSoft Exchange Activesync  http://www.palm.com/us/support/handbooks/treo/Treo650_ExchangeActiveSyncAdminGuide.pdf.  As you look thru it you will see that when it is talking about your data it states that it syncronizes which means the device updates the server and visa versa when you sync. So in answer to your question, if you setup a 680 to sync to an exchange server does it sync or simply update the server?  The exchange server has the ability for it to syncronize, both update each other.  Now I am not a system administrator but I would strongly believe that feature can be modified on the server end and that may be the case with a free exchange server account.  So what they are telling you is either they have their server set only to update the mobile device or they dont know how to set it up any other way.  As expensive as the MicroSoft Exchange Activesync software is I would assume that full service would be for a fee.  So in answer to question 1, yes an Exchange Server will syncronize (providing it is setup to do so).  Now for question 2.  In regards to the Pre, There's no special client application that we know of.  You can connect the Pre as a mass-storage device via mini usb and drag-and-drop into preexisting folders made for those files.  As for other types of syncing, such as Outlook, we have no information as to how that will work yet.  The best information available (about the only information) is at www.palm.com/pre.

  • ActiveSync issue when roaming

So far we had five users with BB Z10 and Q10 who were traveling internationally have experienced issue while accessing email. All the users were setup via Active Sync for corporate emails. Once they land to their final destination which has been China, Australia and Colombia. They will receive 4G or 4g connectivity but no emails. They will be receive their personal emails like gmail, yahoo, etc but no corporate emails. It will take about 20 minutes before they start seeing corporate emails. After about an hour or so the device will stop receiving emails. The only fix is to manually remove email corporate email account and re-add it on the device. Once we are resetup the account then everything works normal throughout their stay.  We are running exch 2007. Z10s are running 10.1.0.2006 build and we are on T-Mobile network. Has anyone experience similar issue ?
    Thanks,
    Bhavik

    Hello Bhaviksom,
Have a look at the 2 possible causes to this issue along with the 2 possible resolutions.
    Cause 1
The Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync Mailbox policy has the value "Allow Direct Push when roaming" set to no
    Cause 2
The email profile assigned to the BlackBerry smartphone in the BlackBerry Device Service has the value "Manual Sync while Roaming" set to yes
    Resolution 1
There are two ways to resolve cause one:
One the BlackBerry smartphone select the settings icon from the home screen
    Select Accounts
Select the Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync account
    Select Advanced
Toggle the option for Push off and back on again.
To avoid all BlackBerry smartphones having to sync manually while roaming, the option will need to be changed in the ActiveSync Mailbox policy on the Microsoft Exchange Server. To perform the action do the following:
    Open the Exchange Management Console
In the console tree, navigate to Organization Configuration > Client Access
In the result pane, click the Exchange ActiveSync Mailbox Policies tab, and then select the policy you want to view or configure
In the action pane, click Properties
    Select the Sync Settings tab
Change the value for Allow Direct Push when roaming to Yes
    Resolution 2
If the BlackBerry smartphone has an email profile which is pushed from the BlackBerry Device Service the option "Manual Sync while Roaming" will need to be changed to "No" in the email profile which is assigned to the BlackBerry smartphone.
Open the BlackBerry Administration console for BlackBerry Device Service
Expand Email profiles under BlackBerry Solution management
Select Manage email profiles under Email profiles
Select the profile and click Edit profile
Change the option "Manual Sync when roaming" to no
Let us know if this helps. Have a good day..

  • Exchange ActiveSync Problem

    Hi,
since yesterday I have a problem with Exchange Ative Sync account on my Z30 / OS Version 10.2.1.2141.
Out of nowere noticed lost connection.
I have deleted and tried to setup again.
After I put all informations (user/pass/domain/server etc...as I did many times before), I have a small window with "Accounts / Checking for supported services and policy information" but in the end I get " Accounts / The Settings for your account are incorrect. Change your settings and try again".
It's my personal phone, used for work e-mail.
My organisation uses Ipones and also Android with Touchdown as e-mail client.
I put also Touchdown on my Blackberry and is working !!
I am not doing any additional setting than I am doing for Blackberry Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync setup (setup is almost similar : user, pass, domain, server etc...).
Any advice about where could be the problem with standard ActiveSync setup ?

That's the catch. Your IT department controls the server you're trying to connect to. You have to check with them to troubleshoot this issue. I have a personal q10 using activesync for work email. At one time it wasn't supported. They enabled something and it worked.

  • Can Exchange activesync be used for calendar and contacts without BES?

I thought it could- just got a Z10 and am having trouble syncing with a cloud service that uses EAS Tech support just told me that I have to be on BES for that? Wasn't what I thought. Knowledge base article KB34208 "Sync time frame for calendar events when using a Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync connection " Says nothing about BES in the Environment section? http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/btsc/viewdocument.do?externalId=KB34208&sliceId=2&cmd=displayKC&d... Hoping guy was wrong- I really need to be able to get my desktop info onto phone and this is convoluted enough- syncing to cloud and then to phone but want to keep the phone (4th BB and a PB). Help please.

you dont need BES10. you can do EAS directly from the device to the Exchange Server.
