  • Run Microsoft Fix It tool from the cmd line?

I have a rampant issue across the network I manage where Java installations have been corrupted. The only way that I can seem to remove the corrupted installation is to run the Microsoft
    Fix It tool.
Since it's somewhat impractical to do this manually for 200+ workstations, is there a way do remove Java 7 update 9, 7 update 10, and 7 update 11 from the command line using the fix it tool?

The likely problem is that your path is targeting the wrong version of java.
Try the following first (I'm assuming a Windows installation):
    Navigate to your %PROGRAMFILES%\Java folder
You may see multiple installations of Java - look for the most recent update (assuming the install had no errors)
Launch a command prompt within your %PROGRAMFILES%\Java folder and then change to the relevant java version and retry your commands from the bin folder using the full path to your java file(s). If it works then we have found the culprit.
You now need to edit your environment variables to point to the correct path.
Go to your environmental variables, and edit the PATH (CLASSPATH if necessary), changing
    On 32 bit Windows
    "C:\Program Files\Java\jdkINCORRECTJAVAVERSION\bin\" to
    " C:\Program Files\Java\CORRECTJAVAVERSION\bin\"
    On 64 bit Windows
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdkINCORRECTJAVAVERSION\bin\" to
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\CORRECTJAVAVERSION\bin\"
    love is rock!!!
    That's a different issue entirely.
The problem is that during an upgrade of Java, the installation of java appears to get corrupted on about 1/3 of of all workstations. After that, Java doesn't work, the control panel icon throws an error if you try using it, and installation/upgrades/uninstallations
are impossible without using the Fix It tool.

  • Deploying "Microsoft Fix It" fails (error: 0x80cf000c)

    Hello everybody
When I try to deploy a "Microsoft Fix it"-msi via intune, I get an error on all my clients and the update won't install.
    Error-code 0x80cf000c
Fix It: Microsoft Fix it 50752 (support.microsoft.com/kb/2181579)
    What should I do next?
    Kind regards

The first thing I would look at is did you attempt to install it Silently? I know there is a gui for the fix it tool and Intune would error out on that.
I would try some of these switches

  • Microsoft Fixes Critical Windows Bluetooth Bug in July Patch Tuesday

Microsoft has patched a critical vulnerability in Windows 7 and Windows Vista related to the Bluetooth stack in the operating system. The bug is the lone critical vulnerability fixed in today's Patch Tuesday release, and Microsoft officials said it's unlikely that it can be used for remote code execution.
The patch for MS11-053 fixes a vulnerability in the way that the Bluetooth stack operates on Windows machines. Despite the low likelihood of it being exploited, it's the most serious of the 22 vulnerabilities Microsoft fixed on Tuesday.

  • How to Update Acrobat X with error 1635?  (Microsoft Fix It and repeated uninstalls unsuccessful)

    Hello,
I recently replaced Acrobat 9 Professional with Acrobat X (standard).  One of the reasons I did so was because I always received an error 1635 message when attempting to update Acrobat 9 Professional, which annoyed me, and which I thought I could eliminate with a fresh install (not an update) of the new Acrobat X Standard program.  However, I find that I cannot update Acrobat X either, as I still get the same "error 1635" message when attempting an update.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program several times, but receive the same error message when attempting to update.  I then used Revo Uninstaller, no difference.  I have run the Microsoft fix it tool, again, no difference.  Despite everything I've done, I continue to receive the "error 1635" message every time I attempt to update the Acrobat X program.  Very frustrating!
Can anyone help identify the issue and suggest a fix?  I imagine this issue is the result of a bad registry key but I have no way of identifying which key (or keys) to delete.
Thanks in advance for any help!
    Bob Woods

Assuming you have tried everything including using the uninstaller tool then it looks like you will need to take a risk by either deleting the registry key ending with 50 or try to use CCleaner which will match the product and remove the registry key for you automatically.
With CCleaner you have the option to delete only the Adobe Key rather than other redundant keys that are always there because of the way how Windows works.  I use Ccleaner regularly but I consider myself quite good at PC Maintenance and Repair so it is up to you to take the risk.
Do you know anybody whose hobby is to fix PCs?  Perhaps they can remove the necessary keys from the registry.

  • What Lenovo/IBM/Microsoft fixes to install on newly-imaged Z60t

I've had to re-image our Z60t back to factory state after encountering unresponsive Ethernet and wireless adapters (long story which I won't bother with here).
After bringing the machine back to factory state (the Ethernet and wireless adapters are both working fine, thank you) and bringing Windows XP up to SP3+ level with a gazillion (about 30 actually) high-priority Microsoft updates, we're still left with:
    - six (6) Microsoft hardware updates for this machine;
    - two (2) 'critical' updates ThinkVantage System  Updates (TVSU) presents;
    - seven (7) 'Recommended' updates TVSU presents;
    - twenty-five (25) 'Optional' updates TVSU presents.
I'd like some advice on how much of this stuff we really should be applying.  This machine is used for email, some Word/Excel writing, and for playing Freecell.
The Microsoft hardware list comprises Broadcom Ethernet, Thinkpad modem, IBM 800dpi Scrollpoint Optical, Lenovo Thinkpad Display 1280x760,Thinkpad PM Device, and Ultranav Pointing Device support.
The TVSU critical list includes ThinkPad Hotkey Features Setup and Power Management Driver support.
The TVSU recommended list comprises Third-Party Plugin for Lenovo Thinkvantage Productivity Center, ThinkVantage Productivity Center, Modem Software, Wireless LAN(11abg,bg), Power Manager, EasyEject Utility, and Active Protection System.
The TVSU optional list comprises System Migration Assistant, Atmel TPM Device, Intervideo WinDVD upgrade, Multimedia Center for Think Offerings Update, WinDVD 5 Update, Thinkpad Audio features XI, Broadcom driver, UltraNav Wizard, Client Security Solution 8.2, Video Features (Intel 91xyy), PC Doctor 5, Maintenance Manager, Message Center, Rescue and Recovery V4.21, Fingerprint Software, Adobe Flash Player Plugin and ActiveX, ThinkPad Configuration, TrackPoint Accessibility Features, DLA by Sonic Update, UltraNav Utility, UltraNav Driver, Keyboard Customizer Utility, Presentation Director, and WinDVD Creator Update.
Prior to our disaster with the communication adapters, we regularly applied all Microsoft fixes and upgrades and most all IBM/Lenovo fixes and upgrades.  Now, I'm not so sure this was a good practice.
I stripped our newly-imaged system of Access Connections since my experience with that IBM/Lenovo add-on is that it just gets in the way of the Microsoft function. (Surprisingly I notice it's not in any of the TVSU lists now; perhaps IBM/Lenovo now agree with me).  I'm wary of applying any of the Microsoft or Lenovo Broadcom updates since this is the function we had trouble with on this machine and since both Microsoft and Lenovo offer (competing?  conflicting?) updates.
I took screen prints of all of this in case anyone is curious about the gory details, but I'm mainly interested in people's update practices or if there are items on any of these lists we should surely apply or ignore.

    When will this be fixed?

Do you have a case number? From
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/forum/surfpro2-surfnetwork/how-do-i-get-the-wireless-hosted-network-feature/03657fe5-b8c1-48c5-940a-ae3e13ffe25f
you've had a couple of contacts with support.
If you provide case numbers, it would be helpful in escalating further. And more
specifically, it might help someone from Microsoft determine IF the issue has
been escalated. While Microsoft has been doing work on the wifi driver for
nearly the entire time since the SP3 was released, there is no information
anywhere as to whether this bug is known or not.
As you also know, I sent it in to the"right" people inside Microsoft and as you

  • Microsoft Fix interferes with BPS Excel OWC

    Dear Experts,
we had just rolled ou a MS security fix
    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/advisory/973472.mspx
which deactivates some parts og ERxcel OWC.
As a consequence, BPS Excel layouts don't work anymore.
Has anybody already found some information on this? (a SAP note?)
Or is there already a workaround or something like that?
    Best regards
    Gregor

    Hi Madhu,
very interesting. Which one of the workarounds did you use?
There are 4 described in the MS Note at http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/advisory/973472.mspx
    1) Prevent Office Web Components Library from running in Internet Explorer
    2) Unregister the Office Web Components Library
    3) Restrict Web sites to only your trusted Web sites
    4) Set Internet and Local intranet security zone settings to "High" to prompt before running ActiveX controls in these zones
The information I have on this meanwhile via a SAP Customer Note is, that
    - YES excel BPS layouts dont work with the MS Workaround Fix
    - SAP is waiting for MS to fix the underlying vulnerability which would make the workaround obsolete
    Best regards

  • Can't burn Disc from iTunes after Microsoft fix

Okay ... long process to get iTunes working and I am almost there. Here is the saga ...
I upgraded to iTunes 6.0 and after the upgrade neither of my CD/DVD drives would work. After surfing the internet, I found the solution on Microsoft.com, which was to delete some specific upper and lower filters from the registry and then reboot the computer. I did this and everything worked great. I was able to use iTunes and both my CD/DVD drives worked. But now .... I cannot burn any discs from iTunes, (I can burn from other places), it says,"cannot find recording disc" It will let me upload CDs into iTunes. Here is my CD diagnostics:
Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)
Dell Computer Corporation Precision WorkStation 350
    iTunes 6.0.4.2
    CD Driver 2.0.4.3
    CD Driver DLL 2.0.3.2

IDE\CdRomNEC_DVD+RW_ND-1100A____________________10GE___, Bus Type ATA, Bus Address [1,0]
If you have multiple drives on the same IDE or SCSI bus, these drives may interfere with each other.
Some computers need an update to the ATA or IDE bus driver, or Intel chipset. If iTunes has problems recognizing CDs or hanging or crashing while importing or burning CDs, check the support site for the manufacturer of your computer or motherboard.
    Current user is administrator.
Failed loading CD / DVD drives, error -43. Try doing a repair install on iTunes from the "Add or Remove Programs" control panel.
The last failed audio CD burn had error code -128(0xffffff80). It happened on drive on -128(0xffffff80) media at speed 0X.

    hi TwinMom!
hmmmm. was this the solution you used?
(MS) CD-ROM access is missing and messages cite error Code 31, Code 32, Code 19, Code 39, or Code 41 after you remove Easy CD Creator in Windows XP
i've seen a few follow up problems after applying that technique ... but usually they tend to involve this error message:
"Warning! The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs & DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes."
what you're getting is still consistent with that (in a sense), because you don't have any itunes-related filter entries showing up in your diagnostics.
so, let's start trying some techniques that have a reasonable track record against that error -43 that's showing up in your CD diagnostics.
first, try a reboot and repair. reboot the PC (very important), and then do a repair install of itunes. go to your Add/Remove programs, select itunes, click "change/remove" and then select "repair".
does that get rid of the -43?
can you burn a CD after doing that?
    love, b

  • The tiworker.exe problem: I don't believe Microsoft knows how to fix it!

I just got a new computer with Windows 8 four days ago.  Almost immediately, I noticed the machine was running slow.  Upon checking my performance through Norton, I found the pesky little tiworker.exe was eating up 99% of my CPU.  Angry, I
contacted a Microsoft tech through chat.  He told me there was nothing wrong with Windows to cause the problem, that it had to be a third party program running somewhere that was causing it.  When I reminded him that tiworker.exe related to Windows
Updates, he still insisted there was nothing wrong, and to contact my computer manufacturer, which I did.
The great guy at HP told me that Microsoft was "full of baloney" that there were virtually thousands of posts throughout forums on the internet related to this problem, and it was probably not related to their hardware or software or any other
third party software.  He advised me to remove all of the extensions in Google Chrome (which I was using when I discovered the problem) which I did, but no improvement.  After checking a few other things, it dawned on me to try Mozilla, to see if
that presented the problem.  I did, and it did NOT.  We therefore concluded that I had a corrupted Chrome, and that I should uninstall it and reinstall.  I did.  Guess what, NO MORE PROBLEM.  Hooray!
I shut down the computer that evening after doing yet another Windows Update (I had done an hour's worth the second day I got the machine, and a few minutes worth while online with the HP tech.  This was the 3rd one in 3 days).
This morning, I booted up, and noticed quite a hang in Chrome.  Upon checking, I found that DAMNED file, tiworker.exe, happily chomping away at my CPU at the tune of 60%.  Same thing in Mozilla.  OH CRAP.
I then went out  to have lunch with my friend, frustrated as hell, determined to get to the bottom of it when I returned.
I  returned after being away for 4 hours.  The computer had been asleep for about 3 of those hours.  When it came back to life, Chrome was running, and after checking my e-mail for 10 minutes, I decided to check my performance.  Guess
what???  NO MORE tiworker.exe.  I closed Chrome, opened Mozilla, played around a bit in it, checked my performance, and???  NO MORE tiworker.exe.
I am totally convinced that the tiworker.exe problem is closely related to Windows Updates, and that MICROSOFT SHOULD DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT, to prevent it hanging on for many hours after an update is completed.  Their software has a serious bug in it
that nobody wants to fix in a way that everybody can benefit.  PLEASE, Microsoft, FIX THIS once and for all!

It could be that tiworker.exe doesn't actually have a problem and is just doing exactly what it's supposed to be doing.
I noticed something similar last month, however someone here kindly looked at a xperf file I uploaded and found that tiworker.exe was carrying out a cleanup of the WinSxS folder by compressing files to free up space.  After just letting it run in the
background for a few hours, it finished doing what it was doing and it hasn't bothered me since.
Here's the original thread on it:
