MICROSOFT FOR MAC FREEZING EVERY FEW MINUTES!

Does anyone know why whenever I'm working on Word or Excel on my Macs, that every few minutes the application freezes, indicating that I have to go & kill 5-10 minutes before I can continue with my work?
It's very frustrating :-(
I'd be grateful for any help / advice.
Thanks.
Gareth

Try repairing your drive for starters.
For another, killing can leave open files corrupt.

You may want to look into more thorough steps to troubleshoot, include more details, check Mactopia or Microsoft community forum for Office.

  • Firefox freezes every few minutes for a few seconds.

Firefox keeps freezing every few minutes, for a few seconds at a time. It's infuriating. It just happened right now while I was typing "infuriating". It's happened since I installed the Facebook Video Chat Plug-In, but I uninstalled that and it keeps happening.

Probably an over active security or "cleaning" program that's kicking in every few minutes and messing with Firefox.

  • Macbook pro ( 13" mid 2009 ) keeps freezing every few minutes since downloading mavericks

Ever since downloading osx Mavericks , my mac book keeps on crashing every few minutes. Doesn't matter what application I am using, system hangs every few minutes. I have been looking at Activity monitor closely. Following programs end up using a lot of CPU and hang a lot:
SystemUIServer ( not responding -- several times )
Google Chrome ( not responding -- several times )
Google Chrome Helper ( not responding -- several times )
PepperFlashPlayer ( not responding -- several times )
Windows Server ( not crashing -- but using a lot of CPU resources - remains at top 5 CPU usage tasks. )
Looking at Console app .. following programs cause a lot of crashes: ( Console itself was not responding several times I was looking at it )
    systemstatsd
    GoogleChromeHelper
I also ran EtreCheck program .. here is the output:

StartupItems can slow your Mac down.
Go to HD > Library > StartuItems
    Remove this:  ChmodBPF
    Restart your Mac.
If it's still slow, open System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login items
Remove Google Drive.  (iTunes Helper should not be a problem)
    Restart your Mac.

  • My ipad 3 Bluetooth stops working for several seconds every few minutes

My ipad Bluetooth stops working for a few seconds every few minutes...very annoying. Any solutions?

firefox has become a somewhat of a pig. it is actually funny and i know this problem will soon be cured but.... here was this "anti-IE" thing that came out a while ago saying "we're the fastest browser in the world" and indeed they were. as a 13 year microsoft employee/veteran i was reluctant to try it, but try it i did. that was years ago. now all of a sudden here i am and for the past several months at least, firefox has been pausing every few seconds or so. it is totally annoying and has me researching the cause. i'm a techie/quite computer literate and know how to tweak and configure to get every last ounce of speed out of my system. let me tell you... firefox is no longer the fastest browser on the planet.... they have issues. why? they have a lot of code and maintaining a complex piece of software (they are finding) is not easy. BUT, the problem lies within firefox's code base... i've used the latest version of IE, safari and chrome and neither is suffering from the pausing problem.
how can you repro this problem? go to any webform (gmail, this forum, et al) and start typing... there will be an annoying pause every few seconds. while pausing, firefox pages out to disk, despite there being TONS of physical memory available... AND i have set my system to NO pagefile, yet firefox is paging...
or, go to a long webpage (e.g. ebay and set the search results to 200. then just use your cursor to scroll down the page) and you'll see the same problem.
hurry firefox... fix this annoying problem. i've been a happy and loyal FF user for at least 5 years

  • Browser is freezing every few minutes with facebook and not on other browsers, please help! i love mozilla, can't switch :)

    hey guys,
im a devoted user of mozilla but lately whenever i open my facebook (or other sites with lots of adds) it freezes for like a minute, every few minutes.
I didn't have this problem when I used explorer nor when doing it on other computers.
so i bet the problem is with my computer but I can't figure out what.. :(
please help me! I hate all other browsers!
    p.s. u guys rock :)

Are you playing Frontierville or Cityville or somesuch? Zynga games are HUGE resource hogs and if you try to pair them with Pandora or YouTube, things can go down really fast. You can also mitigate a little with an adblocker like [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865/ adblock plus].
From reports of this that I've been hearing about, Flash 10.2 (which was a recent update) has been particularly bad with Zynga games. You can try changing your display settings in Flash (right click and select settings and then the first tab) but I would just suggest using just one game at a time. Adobe may be releasing a version of Flash that's better soon, so this may clear up if you update Flash, also.

  • Mac "hiccup" - short freezes every few minutes

I have 15" Intel MBP running OSX 10.6.3. Evey 15-20 minutes the system freezes or "hiccups" for 1 second. This is noticeable when I am streaming video from a USB drive connected to my Time Capsule, watching video from the hard drive or online, or playing a game such as Torchlight. I've run disk utility and Onyx and the system checks out fine. It's a minor annoyance, but any idea what could be causing it?

The fact it affects both operating systems suggests a hardware issue.
Run the hardware that came with your computer:

  • Mac Loading Every Few Minutes

About every 5-15 minutes (random intervals) when I am just browsing the internet, and listening to iTunes, my Mac stops for a few seconds, then goes through about 20 seconds of the "loading color wheel of doom" and then it resumes like before. At first I just thought this was some random occurrence but it has begun to seriously cut into productivity so it is a problem now.
My Mac has never had trouble with this before but I sent it in for repairs 2 weeks ago and it seems like it has been doing it ever since. I have tried things like emptying my cache, clearing downloads, closing open applications I don't use, etc, but to no avail.
Is it possible this is from the repair work? I never had this issue before. Any other suggestions as to what might be the issue would be helpful.

Mac Medic, clearing my cache was the first thing I tried, to no avail.
Could it be an internet connection problem?
It could be a dying hard drive. Backup your data ASAP! Open Disk Utility and check the SMART status of the drive. A client just had the drive die in a new MacBook Pro 15" 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo purchased in March 2010 with a 250 GB Seagate Momentus 5400.6 ST9250315ASG drive. The computer started exhibiting freezes (spinning color wheel), and then the drive just stopped being recognized (boot to a flashing folder with a question mark). Apple replaced the drive with no questions, and returned the bad drive. But we were unable to access the bad drive via an external enclosure. All data lost, no warning. Very disappointing to say the least. The OS should provide some sort of SMART status warning to non-tech users.
It started happening after I sent it into Apple to have the sound board replaced (the headphone jack did not work). Is it possible they messed somethign up, I would have thought their diagnostics would have picked up any abnormalities. When the replaced the sound drive they wiped the Hard Drive. I got everything back because I use Time Machine, so this is basically a new hard-drive I would think.

  • My iPad2 is frozen at slide to unlock and every few minutes te apple appears on the middle for a while and then back on freeze to the slide to unlock screen. Please I need your help please

My iPad2 is frozen at slide to unlock screen, every few minutes the apple appears in the middle of the screen and couple of minutes later it will go back on freeze to the slide to unlock screen .  I have tried all tricks even the restoration through iTunes which I was never able to complete because of the apple screen; iTunes thinks I am resetting my iPad and the restoration get aborted.
Please help, I can't even turn it off.

    Force iPad into Recovery Mode
    1. Turn off iPad
    2. Connect USB cable to computer; leave the other end alone
    3. Press and hold the Home button down and connect the docking end of cable to iPad
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect To iTune" screen
    5. Release the Home button
    6. Open iTune
    7. You should see "iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode"
    8. Use iTune to restore iPad
Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times.

I ran an EtreCheck on my laptop and this is what the report said. I've had this laptop for about 4 years and it just started freezing up around a week ago. The spinning wheel pops up every few minutes, slows down everything, and makes it extremely frustating to be using the laptop.

When you see a beachball cursor or the slowness is especially bad, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

  • I believe OS 10.10.2 is causing my mac to freeze every few seconds.

For the last two weeks or so, my MacBook Pro (2011) has been freezing every few seconds. I can barley type this now. When I pull up Activity Monitor, it shows my memory running at 3.0+ out of 4 GB's. I've tried everything I could think of. My Mac is more of a internet surfing comp so I didn't mind reinstalling OS. It worked great for about 30 minutes then everything started to freeze again. Im curious if anyone else is having this issue and if anyone's figured out how to fix it. I ran a diagnostic on my ram and thats not the issue. Im to the point of upgrading my ram but i think it's dumb reverting to that when the 4 GB has been plenty for me in the past.
    Thank You.

  • Firefox 3.6.6 crashes every few minutes or freezes up even when i'm not doing anything

For the last few days, firefox has been crashing or freezing up every few minutes. It seems to be independent of what websites i'm on. Firefox either just freezes up ("this program is not responding") or will crash entirely and i'll get the firefox crash console. I've tried disabling all my addons and that didn't help either. My explorer seems much more stable.

Having the same problem and is adding up to the problems I keep experiencing like the huge memory loads (tried everything, but no cure found).
See the graphs added, this is when I don't even use firefox.

    SOLVED!!!!!
SO I did some more digging around and read ATI cards seem to overheat easily.  I knew the fan was working, but after closer inspection I realised there was ALOT of built up dust on the card and clogging the fan and airflow.  Blew it out with alot of compressed air, stuck it back in the Mac and BAM...no black screens.  I tested it by streaming 6 video sources...doing 2 screen captures at once as well as watching a HD movie in fullscreen.  Did all this for 30 minutes and no crashes.  I also downloaded an app to monitor the temps inside the computer and the expansion bay stays at 41 degrees.  No clue what it was before but obviously it was hotter than that.  So my problem is solved!  Funny that 10.7.5 made the card work harder.  I wonder if its off loading some CPU stuff to the GPU for processing more than 10.7.4 so its just working a bit harder and so it heats up faster....

  • Firefox crashes every few minutes for about 15 - 20 times and then crashes less often.

I have been using Firefox for several years with no problems. I have had my current laptop for 1 and a half years and have had no problems until about 2 months ago. Now Firefox crashes after only a few seconds several times (maybe 15-20 times) and then the interval between crashes tends to increase. I googled for help, and nothing has worked. I am still using Firefox 3.6.24 because when I upgrade to the latest version Firefox freezes while it is loading and it locks up my PC. At least with Firefox 3.6.24, I can get around to using it, although it is very frustrating wiwth all the crashes.
This is the link to the latest crash report submitted:

While I have your attention, is there any way I can get Firefox to stop asking me if I want to update my version. I am getting sick and tired of having to say 'NO' (for the reasons above).

    OK,
I uninstalled Firefox and Adobe Flash Player. Then I installed version 3.6.28 of Firefox and version 10.3.183.20 of the Flash player as instructed in cor-el's post.
Result: Same problems -- Firefox continued to crash every few minutes.
So... I tried Tylerdowner's suggestions. I already had the latest driver version for my graphics card. Back in June, I had downloaded the latest version of Firefox which then was 13.0.1. It was the latest version available when the crashing problem started on my laptop. This version caused my laptop to freeze.
So today, I went to the website and downloaded the more recent version 14.0.1, and it appears to be working great. I have gone for more than an hour without a crash. I hope the good performance continues.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Podcast playback freezes/pauses every few minutes

When I watch video podcasts on my computer, every few minutes, playback freezes for about 5 seconds before continuing. During the 'freeze', time is still moving, so I also miss some of the video content.
I can watch the same videos perfectly fine if I play the files directly in another video player.
I just installed the latest itunes version.
    Thanks.

Thanks for that suggestion Sasha, though this is the first time I have ever had that type of jerky playback, so I am hoping it won't occur again for a very long time.
I actually deleted the QT video thinking it was defective until I went back and watched the video in the Canvas plus several other old QT videos which all behaved the same way!
The avatar is to reflect that I am now using Shake . . . . . well, at least floundering on the first chapter of the APTS book . . . . so it may well be changed again in the near future!
