Microsoft for mac issues( cloned hard drive)

I replaced my hard drive. I cloned it to my new hard drive. But now my Microsoft for mac is asking for the product key. I went into a back up pulled out the plist file and placed into the library on my new hard drive. But still nothing. Anybody have any tricks?

Try calling MS support and explaining the situation, maybe they will issue a new key.

How to reinstall Microsoft Office for Mac after new hard drive?

Recently I had a problem with my Macbook Pro, and unfortunately had to purchase a new hard drive and have it installed. This also led to the loss of data and other things, such as Microsoft Office for Mac. I know this is an Apple community, but I get better answers here than at the Microsoft communities so I'm hoping someone can help find out how to reinstall Microsoft Office 2013. I logged onto my Microsft account and it says that there is no record of me purchasing Microsoft Office on that account but I know thats the account that it was purchased on, so i cannot get my product key to reinstall it as directed. Mail for Mac on new hard drive won't import Mail from old hd

I recently installed an additional hard drive (running Tiger), but I kept my old one (running Panther), too, to use as a backup.
After resolving a few snags, the data and apps transferred over OK, but two days ago I (very foolishly) tried to make a change in the name I use as Administrator (or at least that's what I meant to do), and all the apps on my new hard drive forgot their passwords, preferences, etc.
What a pain!
I'll eventually get all the preferences, etc., set; but Mail on the new hd also lost everything--addresses, trash, sent messages; and that's got me baffled.
My old hd still has Mail on it (including addresses, etc.), but I haven't been able to import data from it to Mail on the new hd.
In the new Mail, under the File menu, when I choose "Import Mailboxes" and select the button for Mail for Mac OS X, then navigate to Mail on my old hd, it's faint and can't be selected.
Suggestions of any kind would really be appreciated. (And from now on, I'll just live with my name being misspelled as Administrator!)

Welcome to the Discussions.
When trying to import a pre-Tiger mailbox created with Mail, use type "Other", instead of type OSX.
However, if you can replace any copy of the Mail folder on your Tiger drive, and any com.apple.mail.plist in the Preferences folder of your Tiger drive with copies from your Panther drive, Mail will open to say it is ready to import Mailboxes, and will then convert all the mailboxes at once.
However when finished, you will need to check for leftover files, that can become problematic, and to check to see if full conversion took place. See:

Any thoughts from the community; Is it a good idea or not to upgrade my MacBook Pro? Any help is appreciated. On my Macbook Pro to prepare for upgrade to Yosemite, I have backed up to time machine the Macintosh Hard Drive which has my applications with the exception of Office for Mac 2011. Office for Mac is on a separate drive; how do I back up that separate drive?

If it's on a separate drive, then it would have nothing to do with installing a new OS on another drive.

If I understand your questions correctly, then I'm inclined to say no. Office for Windows and Office for Mac are two completely different applications. if you run via BootCamp, only one partition will boot.
If you want to run Mac and Windows at the same time, you could do what I did:
Get Parallels
Install Windows as VM on top of Parallels
Install Office in Windows
Now, you can run your OS X, jump into Parallels' WIndows and use Office that way.
It needs a lot of RAM, 4 is a bare minimum to realy make it sensible, 8 wouldn't hurt.

Try resetting the SMC 2-3 times, if that does not work then the DVD may need cleaning. Get a dry cleaning kit from your local office supply store.

How do you transfer music from an external hard drive into iTunes on a mac, but not write the music into the mac's internal hard drive?

I am trying to load an external library with about 700 gigs of music into iTunes on my mac, but of course my mac's inter hard drive is much less than that. Is there a way I can load the music onto iTunes without importing it into my computer? I use this hard drive for DJing so it is plugged in the majority of the time. I have iTunes 12.0.1.26 on a 2011 13" MacBook Pro.

Do you use both the internal and external drives for storing music or just the external drive? If both, hold down the option key while dragging media to iTunes to get it to leave the media where it is and add the track location information to iTunes. A better solution would be to relocate the entire iTunes library to the external drive and run it all from one place. This will also make it easier to make backups of the library as you should since you are using this in a professional capacity and your livelihood depends upon it. We can provide advice on how to do this once we know more about your setup (is there an existing library already, and where?)

I have Cloned the original hard drive to a new HGST 1TB Hard Drive using four different methods (sector by sector):
Acronis True Image 2015
Acronis Backup for PC
AOMEI Backupper Professional
Macrium Reflect
Each time the cloning process completes successfully and has the same original partition arrangement. The computer works properly except when trying to use the “F11 System Menu” key during boot. It gives the following error message:
“Recovery
Your PC needs to be repaired
A required device isn’t connected or can’t be accessed.
Error code: 0xc0000225
You need to use the recovery tools on your installation media. If you don’t have any installation media (like a disc or USB device), contact your system administrator or PC manufacturer. “
Any suggestions why the F11 System Recovery does not work during boot and how to fix the problem would be appreciated. I have does various disk checking and file checking on both the original and new hard drive with no errors.

Wipe out Internal Mac Book Pro hard drive

I need help on how to wipe out my internal Mac Book Pro hard drive. I used the Mac Office demo and now the demos are no longer usable. How can I wipe out the mac book pro hard drive? Should I contact my Apple Care service center for assistance, since I am paying for that service and they can walk me through the process? I want to clear out to what it was like when I first got the lappy. Help, anyone? Thanks in advance.

Extended Hard Drive Preparation
1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disk. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.)
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the number of partitions from the dropdown menu (use 1 partition unless you wish to make more.) Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled, if supported.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the volume(s) mount on the Desktop.
4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled, if supported.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process will take 30 minutes to an hour or more depending upon the drive size.
Steps 4-6 are optional but should be used on a drive that has never been formatted before, if the format type is not Mac OS Extended, if the partition scheme has been changed, or if a different operating system (not OS X) has been installed on the drive.
After formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed with the OS X installation. Once OS X has been installed and is running you can then run the installer for the pre-bundled software.

Initial easy steps to gain disk space:
- Delete all files in the Downloads folder.
Empty the Trash.
- Start iPhoto.
Empty its trash.
Restart.
Backup:
Run a Time Machine (or other) backup since you are about to delete and move files and you may need to recover from any inadvertent mistakes or decisions. You will need one external hard drive for your Time Machine (or other) backup and a second if you plan to offload some files. (See suggestions for where to purchase hard drives at the end of this message.)

Then use the free application OmniDiskSweeper http://www.omnigroup.com/more to explore your volume in descending order by size so you can attack the problem from the top down, deleting the largest unwanted files first. Delete with caution and do not delete any system files. Remember to empty the trash after trashing the files.

Offloading files:
Consider moving some of the no-often-used large files or directories to an external disk. Use ODS again to find them. This will be at least your second hard drive. Your first one(s) is/are for your Time Machine (or other) backup(s). Do not offload files onto a Time Machine disk.
Format the second drive as Mac OS Extended (journaled). Using OWS to find large files/folders and copy them from the system drive to the external hard drive and delete them from your internal drive.
Then  > System Preferences > Time Machine > Options… > Remove the offload HD name from the exclusions list.
Now both your system disk and your external offload disk will be backed up onto your Time Machine disk.

Transfer data from mac to external hard drive

I am new to macs and am a bit lost.
I have a made up external hard drive (internal hard drive in a case) - TOSHIBA MK8025GAS Media. It is connected to the mac via USB.
I have been using it to transfer data from my pc to mac. The mac sees it and i can copy things from the hard drive to mac without problems. What i cannot do is to transfer from the mac onto the hard drive.
I pulled up the mac info of the hard drive and its both writable and ejectable (Has two partitions). In the partitions the info states that the owners aren't enabled, cannot turn owners off and cannot be formatted. Also the S.M.A.R.T. status is not supported. Not usre what all this means!
Can anyone tell me how to set it up to be able to transfer files to the hard drive from the mac and if it is possible to still transfer from windows to the hard drive?

A friend also told me that i could erase the hard drive using the disk utility in ms dos format. I have tried this and then could also partition it afterwards.
At the moment this seems to be working in both Mac and PC.
One thing i have noticed is when i try to transfer disk images (over 4Gb), near the end i get an 'unexpected error occured' (error code 1309).
From the internet:
error -1309 fileBoundsErr: file's EOF offset mark or size is too big

I have recently purchased a new macbook pro, I had a macbook 13" notebook from 2008 and I trasnferred all of my files using the migration assistant. It said the transfer was completed and everything looked fine. but when I try to open my CS4 photoshop, illustrator, indesign or my microsoft for mac programs they crash. did the files not transfer correctly? do I have to reinstall them? do I need to wipe my mac and start again to clean out all of the transferred files?

If you still have your old MacBook, You can put the software installers in and image the discs using isk Utility and then copy them to your new MacBook Pro via a flash drive and install them from the disc images.
Another option is that you can connect it to your new mac in target Disk mode. Then you can use the DVD drive that is in the MacBook to install the software. To do this you would need a firewire cable plugged into your old MacBook and connect that to a Firewire to Thunderbolt adaptor that is connected to your new MacBook Pro.

Best practices for making space on hard drive?

My relatively trusty ol' 466 mhz G4 is bogging down. I am showing 9.77 GB out of 28.6 capacity. I have the Adobe CS programs and do a lot of Photoshop work. I decided to clean house and dump as much stuff as I can, including the older programs (Adobe Design Suite, Virtual PC, etc.) I don't use these programs anymore, and have the original CD's, so assume there is no reason to take up space with them. My questions are:
1- Is there a general rule for optimal functioning of a Mac in terms of the % of HD space that should be available?
2- What is the difference between regular 'empty trash' and 'secure empty trash'?
3- I bought the LaCie for backing up the hard drives and files. Am using iMSafe, but am a little spooked by the warmings that "removing obsolete files from the destination could result in data loss". Any suggestions?

That should be fine for now, but you know how quickly space can disappear, and the less space you have the slower the system will become.

Something trashed will be found. If you're using your computer in an everyday way and you delete something you later decide you really want, even using the most sophisticated data recovery programs you can only find stuff that hasn't already been written over.
How does a backup program (such as iMSafe) decide which files are "obsolete"? I hardly know myself! So how do I know if it is OK to trust the program to decide?
Personally, I don't like the fact that it does this, but I believe it is simply comparing the original with the copy. If you've deleted the original, then it wants to know if the backup file is now obsolete.
I would suggest you consider something easier to use. Have a look at ChronoSync and see what you think.
