Microsoft Frontpage to iWeb 08

Hey all, I tried searching for this topic but couldn't really come up with anything. I am in charge of the website where I work. When I took over the site was already created and on a remote server that I log into through Microsoft Frontpage. I rebuilt the site when I took over. Now I got a mac a few months ago. I'm not really interested in rebuilding the site again, but I would like to start creating some new pages on iWeb and uploading to the server. For example: The homepage is created in Frontpage, but when someone clicks on a link it goes to a page that was created in iWeb. Is there any way to do this? If so, how? I'm pretty new to mac and haven't quite figured out all the capabilities yet.
Thanks!

You can easily upload to an external server from iWeb. In 09 you have the option to use the new build in ftp or you still have the option of publishing to a folder and uploading using Cyberduck. Upload the site folder and the index.html file.
You can link other pages together on a server, however, having the home page in FrontPage could be a problem due to the index file - in iWeb this points to the home page of your site, so you might have to re-create your home page in iWeb instead. It would make it easier and then you can just upload together.

The SharePoint Team Services dialogview client SHOULD perform an HTTP HEAD request, as specified in

  • Can't get Microsoft FrontPage to connect to Oracle 9.2i

After considerble discussion in the microsoft.public.frontpage.client newsgroup (subject: "Database | Results ... won't ... through Oracle ODBC"), we had to give up and conclude that there didn't seem to be a straightforward way to connect to Oracle 9.2i via the FrontPage database wizard.
I tried a system Oracle ODBC DSN via MS Access and it worked; but, ` can't get the same DSN to work from FrontPage. From FrontPage it generates a user/password error, though the same user/password works from MS Access.
I tried an OLEDB connection and still received the following:
Server error: Unable to connect to a database from the web server using the
    connection string 'Provider=MSDAORA; PWD=myPwd; UID=Administrator; Data
    Source=glOdb.mikecoughlin.net'.
The following error message comes from the database driver software; it may
appear in a different language depending on how the driver is configured.
    ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied
Source: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle
    Number: -2147217843 (0x80040e4d)
I'm certain that this user/password combination is valid e.g. it works in Enterprise Manager to view tables etc.
    So, my question is:
Does anyone have a/the workaround to use FrontPage to connect to Oracle 9.2i ?
    thanks,

  • Form created in Microsoft Frontpage?

    Hello,
I am attempting to fix a form using Dreamweaver.  The form is located at the top-right corner of http://www.imagecandyusa.com
The code for the form is as follows:
    <form method="POST" action="_vti_bin/shtml.exe/index.htm" onSubmit="" name="IC_home_page" webbot-action="--WEBBOT-SELF--">
    <!--webbot bot="SaveResults" U-File="_private/form_results.csv" S-Format="TEXT/CSV" S-Label-Fields="TRUE" startspan B-Reverse-Chronology="FALSE" S-Email-Format="TEXT/PRE" S-Email-Address="[email protected]" B-Email-Label-Fields="TRUE" B-Email-Subject-From-Field="FALSE" S-Email-Subject="SEND ME A QUOTE" S-Builtin-Fields="REMOTE_NAME REMOTE_USER HTTP_USER_AGENT Date Time" U-Confirmation-Url="confirm.htm" S-Date-Format="%A, %B %d, %Y" S-Time-Format="%I:%M:%S %p" --><input TYPE="hidden" NAME="VTI-GROUP" VALUE="0"><!--webbot bot="SaveResults" endspan i-checksum="43374" -->
The form is returning a 404 Error File Not Found:
    http://imagecandyusa.com/_vti_bin/shtml.exe/index.htm
Although I checked with the webhost and the filepath above does exist, I believe there may be an error somewhere in the code.
Can anyone identify what software was used to create this form or how I may resolve this issue?
    Sincerely,

My web host supports FrontPage. I don't know why, but they say theyhave a lot of people using it. FrontPage was originally created by the Cambridge, Massachusetts company Vermeer Technologies, Incorporated, which is why the files and directories for FrontPage have vti in them.
Frankly, if they were going to support something right out of the starting gate, I think they should support WordPress, which is actually being developed, rather than FrontPage.
Where FrontPage extensions are in place on a server and are properly configured to handle email, FrontPage will provide you the ability to specify an email address to send the form data to as a property of the form. The program then generates the instructions needed to utilize the Webbot in the FrontPage Extensions on the server to send out your email.
This proprietary system cannot be accessed by Dreamweaver. Instead, Dreamweaver can help you create a script in a language hosted on your server, like php or ASP or ColdFusion that will do the "heavy lifting" of processing the result of the form and sending an email in response.
If the rest of your website was built using FrontPage, It's advisable to rebuild it in Dreamweaver. To do this, you'll need an understanding of HTML and CSS. Then, for your form, you would build that in Dreamweaver and use the scripting language available on your server. Since php is free and open source, most servers have that.
Here is a link for a tutorial for creating a contact form in HTML4.01 and CSS3, where you can download the script that runs in the background.

  • How do I "open-website" to open a Microsoft Frontpage 2003 website in Dreamweaver CS6?

I just purchased Dreamweaver and have several websites created and maintained only in Frontpage 2003 until now. I cannot find a way to "open-website" or "import-website" or "convert-website" or any other way to open my existing Frontpage 2003 websites into Dreamweaver CS6. Has anyone else done this?

If you want to create a DW site from existing files on your desktop...
    Site >  New Site
Give it a name and http address (if you have one)
    Next
    Next
    Select Edit Local Copies...
Browse to the folder your local files are in (or to the folder you want to download your files to)
    Next
    Set your FTP info
    Next
    Done
It's nearly the same if you want to grab files from the server. Instead of browsing to a folder with files in it, you browse to a folder you want to put your files in. Once you have the FTP set up and click Done, you'll have an empty Files tab in DW. Connect to the server (circular arrows) and click Get (down arrow) to get the entire site.

  • IWeb & FrontPage for Mac's

    Yo!
I've only had a mac for a couple of months & just got round to sorting out my websites that I had designed on my PC with Microsoft FrontPage. However, iWeb doesnae recognise them, so I can't even open them on my mac, never mind edit & publish them! Also, unless I am very much mistaken I have to pay Apple for the privelige of uploading - when I used to upload for free to my ISP server!
    So.......
    1) Why does iWeb not recognise my websites?
    2) I'm inclined to forget about iWeb & buy FrontPage for mac's. I believe there is one version out (1.0), but it's only for OS 9.0 & below, so hopefully it'll be updated soon. Has anyone got owt to say about FP 4 mac's? either good or bad?
    Cheers!

iWeb does not have the ability to import previously published sites - it is NOT an html editor in the same way that Dreamweaver is and iWeb actually creates the html that is needed on publishing.
So you have the following options:-
    1. Purchase a copy of Dreamweaver for Mac or PC and import your sites from FrontPage into Dreamweaver to update them - this is an expensive option especially for Mac, if you need to purchase the full package - take a look at the Adobe website to see for yourself.
    2. Set up Boot Camp on your Mac and then purchase a copy of either Windows XP, Vista or 7 and load this onto your Mac so that you can then run Windows and use Windows software on your Mac, so Expression Web 3.
    3. Purchase a copy of Expression Web 3 - if you already have FrontPage then the upgrade price is cheaper than the full price, which is only £117 - this might be your best option in the long run.
    4. Check out the other options that others have given you here, but remember that any option does need an ability to both import and edit html code to work - iWeb does not have this facility.

  • Transferring websites made on a PC to iWeb

Hey! I'm new to Mac, and I have a webpage I need to access. I created it and have been updating it on Microsoft Frontpage, but I was told by a Mac friend that iWeb is better. I'd like to start using iWeb to negotiate my site. Any way I can transfer the page easily into iWeb?

If you have the HTML code you can paste it to a Snippit, which brings me to a problem I'm having.
I made a Form using MS Word for visitors to my site to enter information, then have the Form email the information to me using the "mailto:" command. It does not work. Does anyone have a solution?

  • Editing a webpage created with Frontpage

Is there any software available that will allow my mac to edit and continue working with a html website that was originally created with Microsoft Frontpage? This is the only part of my ex-windows based past that I haven't been able to fully switch to my Mac!

Give me an example of a software program that will let me open and edit a page previously created with Frontpage. I have attempted with Rapid Weaver. Thanks for your help!!

  • Frontpage Sites into Dreamweaver CS4

OK I am a newbie to both Mac and Adobe Dreamweaver CS4 on a MacBook Pro and I do not have the option of running Frontpage under Parellels as I have tried it about 20x and Frontpage cannot see my Frontpage files on my Mac .psf network solution . . . so . . . I have to learn DW in one days time; but first, I have to get Frontpage sites into DW.  BTW, have no sympathy for me, I do stupid things like this all the time, it's how I became an expert at Avid Liquid and how I'm doing the same on Final Cut Pro and will probably do on Premier Pro CS4.  Learn by "doing."  However, please be gentle, I'm a novice at Mac.
Anyone tell me how to get Frontpage sites into Dreamweaver CS4?  Also, is DW CS4 version 8?  MX?  Or do none of these versions apply?
Thanks in advance to all who respond.

    Dr Dimento,
I have to confess that the first time I opened DW at the beginning of this week, my first reaction was OMG, what have I done, this is going to be impossible!  I then spent a couple of hours just playing around and it all started to make some sense.
Before even installing DW, I spent some time studying the superb videos here:
    http://tv.adobe.com/product/dreamweaver/
In particular, I would suggest you watch all the videos here:
    http://tv.adobe.com/show/learn-dreamweaver-cs4/
These videos got me to the point where I now feel comfortable with DW.  Some of the videos go by pretty quickly, so watch them twice.  They are really excellent!
I would also suggest you read this:
Migrating from Microsoft FrontPage 2003 to Adobe Dreamweaver 8
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/frontpage_to_dw8.html
Hang in there.... I suspect we will both be glad we left FP behind once we get more familiar with DW.

  • Using .dwt from MS Frontpage

    Hello all,
I made a website http://www.dssexteriors.com using Microsoft Frontpage some time ago. Now I am using Dreamweaver instead (I got smarterer.) and when I edit my .dwt file that the entire website is based on the changes do not show up in any page that is using the template! How can I get all my pages to call the .dwt file everytime it is loaded so that it updates across the entire site when I edit the dwt?  Thank you in advance for any tips!

AFAIK FrontPage proprietary Templates don't work in Dreamweaver.
You'll need to build a DWTemplate page, then spawn child pages from it.
Alternatively, you could use Server-side Includes for shared elements like menus, headers and footers.  Apart from saving you time (you only need to edit one file and upload to server), SSIs will work in any HTML editor.

  • MS FrontPage Extensions

    Hello,
I have a customer that would like to install content which includes Microsoft FrontPage Extensions on his web site which we host on WS6.1SP5. I know that in the older iPlanet Web Server there was support for FP extensions. Is that facility also included in WS6.1? If so, how is it configured? Can you point me to some documentation that explains how this works?
    Thanks,
    Bill

Microsoft used to provide Microsoft FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions for UNIX through their partner, Ready-to-Run Software. Unfortunately, these extensions are no longer available.
    There's more information on Ready-to-Run Software's website at http://www.rtr.com/fpsupport/serk4.0/inunix.htm

  • WRT600N - cannot publish with MS Frontpage

    I have a Linksys WRT600N router, new.
I am unable to publish anymore using Microsoft Frontpage.  I keep getting the error "The server unexpectedly dropped the connection."
I am using Comcast Cable, and the router sits behind a Motorola Surfboard Cable modem.
    Steps I already tried:
    - Plugged directly into the cable modem everything works fine
    - Using my older Linksys WRT54GS everything works fine
    - Using my cell card and any other ISP connection everything works fine
    - Using the WRT600N router, Frontpage stops publishing
I already tried disabling every security setting there is on both the router and my PC and even tried a DMZ, but still no luck.
All the advanced wireless settings in the router are set at default (MTU, etc.)
I've spent a couple weeks on this problem and have come to the conclusion it must be something in the router itself.  I'm having other buggy problems with accessing the network storage and getting uploads from certain web sites (like the Speakeasy speed test), so something isn't right.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you.
    Tom
P.S. Yes, I am running the latest firmware build available online.

To do a reset, all I have to do is hit the reset button, correct?  I did do that, but none of my settings were lost and it didn't seem to make any difference.

  • IWeb to WordPress...can I use WP without knowing a lick of code?

I am interested in some of the advanced features of WP (.org not .com); I've heard so many good things about it. I want to create a website that can be managed by a PC or a Mac person, etc., etc.
I am a simple web person--experience only with FrontPage and iWeb--no knowledge of PHP or any other coding language. My webhost supports WordPress, but I am wondering about the learning curve. Can I use WP without knowing any code, learning as I go?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

basically wordpress is very easy. it is a complete blog with several thousands of themes you can download and then use.
you do not need to know much except some iframe stuff to get movies in. but under the wordpress.org site there is lots of help! you find everything explained step-by-step.
only feature that i miss is the ability to design. you cannot just draw textboxes in there and done. there is allways some preset stuff and if you do not know PHP you cannot change much!

  • Want to make microsoft front page my editor

Is it possible on Firefox to make a program such as Microsoft FrontPage , web publishing software, my editor so that after I publish a new web page I can edit it in Firefox

    Hi,
Based on the error message, this issue might be caused by the ODBC drive version does not match the Excel version. To resolve this error, use the 32-bit odbcad32.exe to configure or remove the DSN.
