Microsoft has added a community for Office for Mac at MS Answers

Not entirely related, just a heads up for Office for Mac users: Microsoft Answers now has an official Office for Mac community to ask questions at: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac

I recommend the FREE and very capable LibreOffice if people don't specifically need Office.
http://www.libreoffice.org/
Runs on OS X, Windows and Linux. Reads/writes Office files too.
Office is only for those who trade editable files with other (enslaved) Office users.
If you need office software just for yourself, why pay?
If you need to send a LibreOffice file to another, just pack a copy of Libreoffice along for the ride, it's free.
Why put up with Office DRM scheme headaches?
Why put up with numerous "security" issues that have plagued Mac users with Office over the years?
Enough is enough, dump Microsoft completely and don't let them sucker you back into their "Stockholm Syndrome Effect" or make you feel sorry for them.
Office software should be free anyway now, god knows they can't improve it anymore.

    Hi Anne,
Did you do this through one of the Office app updates, or did you download it directly from the Microsoft website?
Whichever way you tried it, I would try it the opposite way this time, although simply repeating what you did before may also work.

  • After download of Mav, MS Word for Office for Mac 2011 comes up blank.

After download of Mav, MS Word for Office for Mac 2011 comes up blank. Other MS Office apps work fine. When restarting iMac in Safe mode, Word opens OK. Apple support rep says, "Not our problem; it's Microsoft's. There are no Microsoft experts here." But it was Maverick that knocked Word out. (Note: the "not our problem" quote is from the third contact with Apple support. The first two support techs tried to resolve the problem, were very accommodating, and tried their best to solve the issue.)
On another note, I use a Microsoft wireless keyboard, with push-button shortcuts to mail, Safari, etc. The keyboard Command + keystroke shortcuts no longer work, and in the System Preferences file the message tells me it can't access them.
Any suggestions, especially for the former problem, would be appreciated.

Thanks; this last reply came closest to 'solving' the issue. While I selected font sub, it at first had no affect on the document.
I then went back to prefs and set the compatability dropdown from 'Custom' (where it had defaulted) to 'Word 2004-2007', assuming these docs were created from a recent past Windows.
I 'Saved As' a Word for Mac " .docm "
Whoa... the extensions mean something. Your original problem (document shows bold, italic, underline, but tables and other complex formatting are lost) sounds as though the document was being exported as a .RTF, a Rich Text Format file. If you save as a .DOCM, that's a Word Macro Enabled Document. Regular Word 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2011 docs are .DOCX. Regular Word 97 through 2004 docs are .DOC. You need to save that document as a .DOCX or a .DOC or you're gonna have problems later.
    - and the documents appear normal (though I had to switch one to 'Portrait' as it for some reason wanted to display in landsacpe.
Normally you'd have to select page orientation.
So, poor testing on my part. I have no idea which of the above steps fixed it but I'm guessing the 'Save As' to my version of Word.
If so, it would appear the 'Compatability' feature was not working at least on these two documents.
Word's compatibility feature is supposed to ensure that a document you produce is compatible with the target version of Word. If you turn the compatibility stuff on then you will be warned if you are using Word 2007 through 2011 and you use a feature that earlier versions of Word do not have. Microsoft shipped a translator which works with Office 2003 and 2004 and which allows Word 2003 or 2004 to read Word 2007, 2008, 2010, or 2011 documents (.DOCX) and to save them as Word 97 through 2004 documents (.DOC) _as long as they don't have any incompatible features_. Word's compatibility features doesn't do much for .RTFs or for .DOCMs.

  • Do Auto Save and Version work for Office for Mac-documents?

Do Auto Save and Version work for "Office for Mac 2011"-documents?

No, just certain Apple apps right now. Preview, iWorks, textedit come to mind. Anything else?

The terminology SP1 is a bit confusing. SP1 and such is mostly used with Win Office products. The latest update for Office 2008 is
"Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac 12.1.4 Update
This update fixes a calendar issue in versions of Microsoft Entourage that were updated with the Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac 12.1.3 Update. The issue prevents Exchange accounts in Entourage from sending meeting invitations and responses. This issue can occur when an Entourage identity is configured with more than one mail account. We strongly recommend that all Entourage users who installed Office 2008 for Mac 12.1.3 Update install this update."
and all updates have been named 12.M.N, M=0 or 1, N =4 in this case.
The update above, and earlier ones -- and updates for Office 2004 -- can all be found here for download:
    http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.mspx
Is this what you are trying to install? I did this update on my Al MB recently and it went fine.

  • Need workflow for Advanced Analysis for Office for Sizing

    Hi,
I am in the process of sizing for BO solution .
Part of that exercise is to find out how much cpu and memory are required for AAO?
So i thought trace the AAO workflow and understand which BO services/servers it requires.
If anyone any idea about it workflow, please share.
    Thanks,
    Srikar

    Hi Srikar,
Analysis for office goes directly to SAP BW / SAP HANA for data retrieval, so there is no need to consider it as part of your sizing exercise.
There is a note though about client Hardware and Software requirements:
1466118 - Hardware & Software requirements for Advanced Analysis
The only exception here is the new scheduling capability of Analysis for Office in the BI Platform, in that case the Adaptive Job Server is used.
    Best regards,

    Hi everyone
I am trying to create a questionnaire to print out for people to fill in by hand, I can see that on Microsoft website, there are loads of questionnaire templates but it will not let me open them on my Mac. Can anyone point me indirection of one or how I can open the Microsoft ones on my Mac. I am really desperate as need it for my uni work.
    Many thanks

Office templates are the same for Mac and Windows, I assume this is a Word template (or maybe Excel) what is the extension of the template file?
    Forget it
I just went to Microsoft's template collection online, I downloaded 3 questionnaires, Risk Assessment, Customer Satisfaction and a Parent Survey, they all work in Word for Mac, so the question now is what are you doing that is different from what I am doing?

  • Upgrade for Office for Mac

    Hi
I am running Office 2011 (for Mac) and was informed about an upgrade to 14.2.3.  I can download but it will not let me insall to the Mac HD (where the original Office files are).  Any ideas out there?

I've seen this happen in earlier versions of Office. At least if a brody is not correct that it's looking for an admin password you can't supply. But I think you mean this:
The MS Office updater says there's a new update available and downloads it. But when the updater launches and looks for an installation of Office to update, it insists there is none.
The only way around that I know of is to completely uninstall Office and then reinstall it.

  • Can i download microsoft office for my macbook pro?

Is it possible for me to download microsoft office 2010 for my macbook pro? i keep trying but it will not let me download

    Hi luvbigbang
As Kappy has said, you can download Office for Mac 2011 from the Microsoft website at http://www.microsoft.com/mac
This can be done right away under their free 30 day trial offer.
Assuming that you then want to keep the software by buying a properly licenced version, you can take your time and shop around during those 30 days to find the same version (ie Home and Student or Home and Business) at the cheapest available price.
Good sources for discounts will vary depending upon where you're based, but Amazon (.com / .co.uk) is often a good place to try. You can then simply enter the licence code from your purchased product to fully activate the version that you've already downloaded as a trial.

  • Office for mac 2011 not working correctly on new Macbook Pro- Help

I have a MacBook Pro from September and had One to One transfer all files/programs (including 2008 Office).  I then purchased the Office for Mac 2011 program and they installed it (I guess they did not remove the older program).  It has never worked correctly and I have tried to contact Microsoft to no avail.
None of the documents open with Fonts intact (Word and Excel open up blank though the graphic elements show up.  I have to Select All and choose a font to make it show up.
Powerpoint is barely functional (none of the layouts actually show up when I select them, the sidebar of slides does not update as I type or try to change themese, etc.  And then when I type, the program freezes and then shuts down.
I have uninstalled 2008 and 2011 and then re-installed 2011 but the same issues occur.  Someone on the microsoft community told me to remove my duplicate fonts, I ddi that and the same issues still occur. My brother has the same laptop and Office for Mac 2011 and no issues.
Can someone help me basically try to start fresh- should I uninstall again? (I waas told that installing/uninstalling too many times can further the problem).
    Help!
    Thanks,
    Bernice

  • Fuzzy icons for office files opened with VM Ware

since upgrading to snow leopard, the finder file icons for the office files (.xls, .ppt, .doc, .xlsx, .pptx, etc.) are all fuzzy. I notice that if i change the file associations for these files to mac office they look right again but as long as they are associated with the version of office on the VM ware virtual machine, they remain fuzzy. This is annoying since it's so fuzzy it's hard to distinguish between ppt and xls without looking at the file extension.
does anyone know how to rebuild these icons?

    Hi,
Please have a look at this KB articel (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2434675) and try the steps listed in it:
Change the font in the Office for Mac file
Disable the fonts in the Fonts folder
    Check for bad fonts
Create a new Mac user profile
Also, this is the forum to discuss questions and feedback for Microsoft Office on Windows, we are lacking of skills and testing environment for Office for Mac. Better to post your question to the forum of Office for Mac:

I just bought a new iMac and migrated all data from my old Mac using Migration Assistant. Everything works fine except for Office for Mac 2008. When I try to open eg a s/sheet (Excel being the default app) Microsoft setup assistant wants to set up accounts etc. If I try and register the product it takes me to Microsoft Office 2011 purchase sitE which I don't want. Any ideas how to get 2008 working on the new iMac?
