Hi
I have recently built a Lync server in a support environment. We currently use CUPS 7 for IM'ing and call handling from the desktop. We haven’t rolled CUPC to the whole business as there are concerns regarding auditing for the instant messaging and is also a little buggy. Ideally I will use 8.5 once i get round to installing and planning for this...In the interim MS Lync looks a good product, is a lot cheaper and hopefully will be easier to administer than CUPS/CUPC
Has anyone managed to configure lync to work with call manager? i.e place calls from the lync client through to CM internally/externally? I know i need to create a SIP trunk and also additional extensions...
I would be interested to see other designs or 'gotchas' before i spend to much time on this...
Cheers
Steve

There are three different ways to get phone control on Lync client:
Direct SIP
CUCILync
CUPS RCC
Search those keywords on cisco.com should give you some ideas.

  • Microsoft lync client can make calls but not receive them

So I have our Lync server all set up…I can make outgoing calls, but I cannot receive them on my client. I have the URI fully populated with my direct line. Why can’t I receive calls?  I have this integrated with my call manager as well.

    Hi,
    1. Please try to check mediation server listening ports.
    2. Please also make sure do populate the telephone number field in AD user’s account. Please refer to the following link to verify if LineURI is set correctly.

  • Transcoding in Lync and CUCM scenario

    Hi Guys,
I am reading the blog below and find some point is quiet confusing,
    blog.unplugthepbx.com/2011/04/11/integrating-microsoft-lync-and-cisco-unified-communication-manager-part-4-remote-site-scenario/
One of the goals that the author tries to achieve is:
"A voice call from Lync to Cisco across the WAN should be RTAudio across the WAN and be converted to G711 at the mediation server in the site with the Cisco phone"
I am wondering the call flow based on it, from the article it suggests:
    Lync (local)-----mediation (local)-----WAN------(remote) mediation(transcodes RTAudio to G711)-------cisco phone (????).
But when the call comes out of the remote mediation server, how can it reach to the remote cisco phone?
I myself think the call flow should be like below:
Lync (local)-----mediation (local)-----WAN------CUCM-----(remote) cisco voice gateway---phone. But if it is the case, where the transcoding happens???
Can someone please give any advise, thanks.
    Regards
    Jim

If all you want to do is to ensure RTAudio is used on the WAN, then go ahead and put mediation servers in each site.  However, if your ultimate goal is to reduce WAN utilization, then there's a better way (but it is relatively complex).
You don't really need to deploy mediation servers at each site to get calls to transcode to Cisco.  Lync clients are able to talk directly to Cisco using G.711, avoiding the need for transcoding at all, and you can keep the majority of calls off the
    WAN by using Media Bypass.
The way I typically do things with CUCM with remote ISRs is setup trunks to each ISR (one each for Chicago, New York and Detroit), and use media bypass to keep most of your voice traffic off the WAN.
Make sure you've configured all your subnets in Lync and assigned them to sites
Create a PSTN gateway pointing to your CUCM. This will handle signalling.
Create trunks off the PSTN gateway for each of the ISRs, using different ports. Set each trunk's
RepresentativeMediaIP to the IP address of the ISR. This ensures that media bypass will work at each site.
In Lync, set the trunks to use Media Bypass
For call routing, you have two options:
5a) Setup standard voice policies for each location to use the ISR in that location for all calls and assign them to your users (works great if everybody typically stays in one place)
5b) Use location-based routing to ensure that calls will route out the local ISR no matter where the user is currently sitting.  Fairly easy to setup, but hard to manage and troubleshoot because its all done in Powershell.
With a bit of fiddling, you can ensure that all PSTN calls and Lync-Cisco calls within the local site will route out the local ISR, avoiding the WAN entirely.  Inter-site routing gets a bit more complicated, but if you really want to minimize bandwidth,
you can transcode calls to use G.729 via Cisco for the most efficient bandwidth utilization.  This does come at a cost of increased processor utilization on your ISR and potentially reduced call quality with all the transcoding, however.
Doing it this way does take more work, but if your ultimate goal is to reduce voice utilization of the WAN, I encourage you to check it out.

  • Lync and Skype Contact problem

    Dear Support Team,
My company do Lync and Skype federation that I found the problem below:
    1. If user has used Microsoft Lync and federate with Skype by using Microsoft Account, it connected. but If Skype user is not Microsoft Account, they have used Skype ID. they shows Presence Unknown.
    2. Some Skype user that used Microsoft Account, they will not receive invitation. when Lync user invite Skype user.

    1. The Skype ID must be associated with a Microsoft ID in order to work. This is why you receive "Presence Unknown" with non-Microsoft ID enabled accounts. See here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn440172.aspx specifically:
"All Skype users wishing to connect to a Lync user must have a Microsoft Account associated with their Skype IDs and sign in using the
Microsoft Account.  This can be enabled within the Skype client."
    2. Do those Skype users have a Microsoft account paired with their Skype ID? If not, they won't receive an invitation, because the invite
is never sent to them. Can you give more detail on the users that don't receive the invite, is there something they have in common?

  • Lync with Microsoft Home and Business 2013

I am working with a corporate client who used Lync
on a Microsoft 365 platform. However I work independently and have Microsoft Home and Business installed on my laptop. Is it possible for us to connect on Lync in anyway?
Likewise I have a colleague Office for Mac. Are we able to connect using Lync in any way? Thanks Shona

    Hi,
    Agree with the people above.
Microsoft Lync Server is an enterprise real-time communications server. The Lync client is used to connect Lync Server. The Lync client is only meant to be used with a Lync Server (hosted in a corporate environment) or an account hosted on Office 365 with
Lync functionality enabled. After you doing that you can create a user on Lync Server and login to Lync Server with Lync client.

  • Microsoft Lync 2010 and Cisco APs

My company has extensively deployed Microsoft Lync Enterprise voice and this was an upgrade from OCS R2. Staff in my company have complained often of poor calls over wireless. I have resisted applying QoS for now until I understand fully how Cisco APs and WLCs implement QoS. I recently watched a video from Aruba networks comparing performance of Lync calls over its access points and Cisco access points. The Cisco setup was a 3500 AP and 5508 WLC with 7.0.116 code. There were also other bandwidth consuming applications running at the background. I must say that I was impressed at how Aruba's access point performed over Cisco access points. This is because Aruba does application specific QoS and not the traditional client or SSID QoS.
I am considering making recommendation to management to go Aruba for the upgrade of a larger subsidiary. However, before I make such a recommendation,I have 2 quetstions
    1.  I would like to know if Cisco has revamped its WLC code to better deal with Lync and if so, I would be grateful if I could be shown any documentation or video on how to implement QoS to improve Lync experience.
    2. Also if HREAP is implemented, does the WLC still implement QoS or has this to be handled by the switch since packets are locally switched.
I currently have a mix of 5508 and 4404 WLCs with over 300 1041n APs.

    Osita,
As far as I know, Cisco has not done any optimization specifically for Lync, but as long as Lync is using standards-based tagging for the latency-sensitive parts of the application (voice and video), then you can elevate your WLAN QoS setting to the appropriate metal to allow for elevated QoS-tagged traffic on that WLAN.
Keep in mind that the controller does not actively tag upstream client traffic, so even if you have clients doing other applications on their workstations over that WLAN, that traffic will not be re-marked from best effort to a multimedia QoS level. I.e., you can have a WLAN that shares both data and voice/video in a Lync environment.
If you want to learn WLC QoS from the best (IMO), here is is Jerome Henry doing a 5-part video series explaining and implementing QoS on the WLC. It starts with Part 1, and the goes to Part 2-a, 2-b, 3-a and 3-b:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44t-0JYEwkA&list=UUm3YBBhcJRokmAD1LaJg3hQ&index=15&feature=plcp
Locally switched HREAP traffic will come out into the switchport marked with the DSCP tag given to it by the application. It is up to you to configure proper end-to-end QoS on your network from there.

  • Why my Jabber 9.2.3 Sign in like Cisco UC Integration(TM) for Microsoft Lync?

After I uninstall Cisco UC Integration(TM) for Microsoft Lync 8.6 from my computer and reinstall Cisco Jabber 9.2(3), I found my Jabber got the same interface of sign in with Cisco UC Integration(TM) for Microsoft Lync. it let me input the TFTP,CTI,CCMCIP server adress, instead of choosing the presence server and inputing the presence server address and domain.
after I sign in, it is aslo like Cisco UC Integration(TM) for Microsoft Lync, there is not the side button of contacts list, I can only search the person to call and can not send message or chat any more.
I tried many times to uninstall and reinstall Jabber,i failed, except I install Jabber 9.1(3), it works well. but I try to reinstall 9.2(3) again, it goes back like Cisco UC Integration(TM) for Microsoft Lync, why?
    Thx.

    Hi,
You probably had CUCILync 9.2 installed previosly, and since CUCILync 9.2 is based on Jabber phone mode, the interfaces are the same. (You have Jabber phone mode nterface now)
These settings are written in jabber-boostrap.properties file and Jabber reads them from here.
    That file is stored here:
    C:\ProgramData\Cisco Systems\Cisco Jabber
If you delete thise file, interface should change.
If you want to install Jabber and avoid such things, do this with option clear=1
    - msiexec.exe /i CiscoJabberSetup.msi CLEAR=1 ...

  • Microsoft Lync closes after click on "Send Location" button on Apple's devices

    Hello,
I found a problem using Microsoft Lync client on Apple's devices running iOS 5.1.
I tested on an iPhone 3GS, 4S and New iPad.
All of them running iOS 5.1.
When I tested on a devide running iOS 5.0.1 this feature works fine.
I don´t think that it´s a Microsoft Lync issue because it works on iOS 5.0.1, but how to solve that question once Apple has launched a new version of its iOS?
I think that Microsoft should investigate what is happening with this version of iOS and maybe launch a new Microsoft Lync.
All of the devices that I´ve tested where in Brazilian Portuguese.
Anybody could check if this issue happens with all of the Apple devices running the new version of the iOS?
If somebody already had the same issue, please tell me.
    Thank you very much,

This problem has been taken care in Lync latest model.. lync 2013 & iOS 8.1.2

    Hi Srinivas_akyana,
Please copy paste downloaded file in your memory card of device.
& access it on your devcie, you will find a folder naming OC2007 > there will be many folder inside, so you have to select the folder according to your devcie OS (Suppose you have OS 7 then open folder for_7.0.0 > Click on .jad file of language in which you want to install the app (Suppose you want English so select oc2007_700_en.jad)
Once you click on .jad file, it will prompt you to download and install the app.
