  • Microsoft Messenger for Mac--makes me go crazy!

I have just done a full system restore, and as my friends are all crummy windows users, i installed Microsoft Messenger 5.0. Normally, when i sign in my status is always 'appear offline', but now, my status is always online.
How can i choose to always appear offline like 3 days ago?

    Ola,
I had the same (small) problem at first. I'm not sure from your description whether it is a small problem or a bigger one, but here's what I did to set it to "offline":
Now, when you click on the MSN icon it automatically log on, right? Your settings are probably set to show yourself being online. Just log off again and choose "sign in with a different account" and you should see a screen which gives you the option how to show yourself whenever you sign in. So choose the offline option and this should be your new settings for when you're logging in. Tell me if this helps,
    Cheers

I cannot sign in to MS Messenger. It keeps telling me to retry, but Yahoo Messenger works just fine. Does anyone know why this is happening?

Please post your question on Microsoft's own forums for their Mac software as Apple Communities only provide support for Apple products and the MS forums are obviously geared more toward your question.

  • So whats up with Microsoft Messenger for Mac

    So
I can't web cam with my friends any more ?

This is true. Yahoo and ms are joining forces on this but Yahoo seems to be the most proactive in making it actually work on a mac.. Yahoo's video now works but only with PC buddies with the MS messenger LIVE update - no voice as yet.
Personally i use ichat with a jabber account to talk to most of my msn buddies but that's not for the faint hearted and still no video or voice

Luckily i've converted my closest friends to Skype which works great with the new video update - also with voice and file transfer. The leader of the pack in IMHO but i live abroad so i also use it for all my telephony abuse.

  • Microsoft Messenger for Mac 6.0.3

    Newby to Mac
Has anybody installed and used this yet?
Any issues that I should be aware of?

An 80 GB drive is really just 74.21 GB. This is a manufacturing thing. This explains it.
Mac OS X reports hard drive capacity in binary math, hard drive manufacturers report capacity in base 10 math
On your MacBook your also getting the OSX and all the extra stuf which takes up more than 8 GB. You have iLife trial versions of iWork and Office. The best way to gain space would be do a custom install on your drive and get rid of all the extras you don't want. Language files and printer drivers can take over 3 GB. Garageband takes up a few GB. It all adds up quickly.

  • Microsoft Messenger Problem

    Hi,
I know this isn't technically an Apple problem, but I have a problem with Microsoft Messenger for Mac, and I can't think of a better forum to post it on...
Messenger used to work fine on my iMac. But then I decided to change my Windows Live ID, so that my account used a different e-mail address. Now, when I log into Microsoft Messenger on my iMac, using this new address, I log in and everything appears to be fine. BUT...
    - All of my contacts appear to be offline, even when they aren't
    - I can't contact any of my contacts, and they can't contact me
    - My Display Picture keeps reverting back to my iMac's Account Picture, every time I restart Microsoft Messenger
Has anyone else heard of or had a similar problem? What can I do? Is Microsoft Messenger now completely messed up on my iMac with no way of getting it working again?

  • Microsoft messenger reading as a hard drive image on desktop

I've just got my mac, downloaded microsoft messenger for mac and i don't know what's gone wrong but theres a icon on my desktop reading "microsoft messenger" and when I try to eject it is says "the disk microsoft messenger is in use and could not be ejected. try quitting applications and try again"
Is there any way to resolve this?
    Thanks

Software for Mac OS X usually comes packed as a ".dmg" or ".pkg" file. If you have downloaded the file from Mactopia (Microsoft's Mac page) then it's dmg. Double-click on one of these files and it will get mounted like a real partition or removable device (e.g. like a usb stick). If you didn't change the default settings of Safari (the built-in web-browser) downloaded dmg-files are mounted automatically this way.
Just double-click the icon on your screen and wait for a window to pop up that indicates to drag-and-drop the "Microsoft Messenger" icon to the "Applications" folder. Do that. This way you install software in Mac OS X (i.e. by dragging it into your Applications folder). Now the program should be available for you to use.
If you still can't remove or delete the icon on your desktop try rebooting your machine. Afterwards you should be able to delete the downloaded dmg-file (you won't need it anymore).
Hope this helps. Let me know if that solved your question.

  • Will there ever be an update to Microsoft Messenger?

I know on Windows there is the new Windows Live Messenger. I just would like to know if there will be an update to Microsoft Messenger for Mac anytime soon. I hate the fact Mac users are limited to no webcam or audio or games. I know there are programs like Mercury Messenger and Adium but I just don't like using them. I know last summer they relesed a major update for Mac, but now with the new Windows Live on Windows, should we expect a new Mac update?

There are various webcam options for the Mac as listed by this website:
    http://www.applechat.info/
Also don't forget, now that you have a MacBook, all the virtualization and Boot Camp options are open to you that my FAQ discusses:
    http://www.macmaps.com/macosxnative.html#WINTEL
So if you wanted you could probably run Windows Live Messenger on Parallels or Boot Camp. Ask to see if that is possible.

What pic format is required? and is there a difference between Microsoft messenger for mac and msn messenger for mac? I have microsoft messenger

Aren't they both the same thing...?
And given the popularity of mac, it is sad that messenger for mac lacks a few important features that can only be found in msn live. I suggest you give adium a try.

  • Is it possible to use iSight with Messenger for Mac?

I have been racking my brain on how to get iSight to work with my friends on Window messenger. The video option is not available. I've had my macbook for 2 months now and, after working/giving up and going back again cannot seem to get it to jive. Any ideas would be appreciated!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, flowerlove
The answer here will depend on the specifics of what you want to do.
Both Microsoft Messenger for Mac and the older MSN Messenger for Mac are text only apps. You can not use iSight with either. Please let us know if you mean some different "Messenger" software.
This Windows Messenger does not appear to offer video, even for PCs. If this is the application your friends are using, no video work with it.
For a built-in iSight video connection with PC contacts who only connect via Windows Live Messenger or other clients of the MSN Messenger server, you can select from these alternatives:
    (1) Because your MacBook can use Boot Camp or Parallels to run Windows XP software on your MacBook, you can choose which method you want to use, add the required software (if you have not already done so), and then install and use the same Windows instant messenger application that your contacts are using to do video.
    (2) and (3) In addition to Niel's good "aMSN" suggestion, you can also try Mercury Messenger for Mac. Either can work with OS X for video and text chat. They offer the same features, but neither offers audio connections.  Use whichever one of these two you find more reliable or easiest to use if you do not want to add Windows XP to your iNtel Mac,.
