Microsoft Messenger won't sign in..

Hi,
My problem is, as you can read in the title, Microsoft Messenger. I downloaded the application from Microsoft's web site (v 6.0.3) and copied it to my Applications folder. I have both a Gmail ID and a Hotmail ID to connect to Microsoft's Messenger network.
From both IDs, I can't sign in to my account. There are no problems with my accounts. I use can use them on another Mac or a PC. I tried deleting my .plist files but that didn't work.
Is there anybody can help me? Anyone having the same problems?

Hi Alison
I appreciate that this isn't a solution to your problem, however it might help him at least talk to his friends for now.

This will also allow him to use his webcam with his friends unlike the standard version of msn.
Happy New Year
Nick

  • Microsoft Messenger won't connect anymore?

I've been using microsoft messenger for 9 months now perfectly fine, but today when I got home it says "im not connected to the internet or msn is busy and can't connect." I tried getting on my ipod and even that couldn't log on. I went and got my PC and tried using msn and it wouldn't long on there either. I had another friend log me on her computer and it said the same thing. What's wrong with my connection? I am connection to the internet just fine and same with ichat. It's only microsoft messenger that won't work. I tried uninstalled/reinstalling. I tried rebooting my computer. Idk what to do anymore. Please explain thouroughly if you have a solution, because I don't know much about mac settings. Thanks.

    Welcome to Discussions, itakeitwell
This method of rebooting the modem and router works for me when I have connection trouble:
    (1) Power everything down.
    (2) Restart your modem, router and / or wireless access point (if you have them), and then your Mac in that order. Let the self test on each device complete before restarting the next.
If you still have trouble after rebooting your system, contact your ISP and have them check your service.

  • Microsoft Messenger Refuses to Sign IN

I just recently got my logic board replaced. Now, whenever I try to sign in to Messenger it pops up with an error message reading:
"Microsoft Messenger cannot sign you in.
Either date and time settings are incorrect or the digital certificate file is not valid or installed on your computer. If date and time are correct, see your network administrator to verify that your digital certificate file is valid and installed."
I don't know anything about my digital certificate and as far as I know, the time is correct.
Does anyone have suggestions of what to do?

Have you tried deleting Messenger, delete the .plist, and reinstall?

  • Microsoft Messenger will not sign in.

Microsoft Messenger leaves me the following message when trying to sign in... "Microsoft Messenger has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience."  Then it asks me to report the problem to Microsoft, which i do for the last couple months.  I'm on Microsoft messenger version 8.0.2.

  • Yahoo Messenger won't sign in Macbook (13" Black) v. 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard)

Been having some really weird issues with Yahoo Messenger on my Macbook (13" Black) O/S Snow Leopard v 10.6.8.  My sign-in/log-in screen has been in this perpetual cycle of saying "signing -in" but nothing happens..  I have no other issues with other messenging apps (e.g iChat, AOL-IM, ICQ, etc) work just fine, but just non stop things with Yahoo.  Don't know if it ever worked on here, but now its becoming an issue because I'm starting an online class now and need to have this for discussion groups.   Any help would be great .. Thanks ! (BTW this screen shot has been goign on for about an hour)

The most random fix just happened for me, something I didn't think of trying.
    At the Log-In Screen:
Click File --> Preferences --> Select the Connection option (I changed the toggle to 'Behind Firewall') .. Although, I'm not behind a fire wall or anything but just played around with the settings and it worked and now I'm able to log in .  strange.. very strange..

  • Can't sign in to my Microsoft  messenger account

I'm trying to use the same password I use when I sign in on the Windows Side of my Mac. The Messenger icon is in my dock, but for some reason will not let me sign in it. It says, sign in failed because the password is incorrect or the sign in name does not exist. well, I tought of changing the password and re-downloaded the Microsoft messenger again but still not working out I tried the following solution but still not working
Cause: There is incorrect information saved in the preferences file.
Solution: Delete the Messenger preferences file, and then reenter sign-in
    information.
In the Finder, open /Users/username/Library/Preferences/, and then drag the
following files to the Trash: com.microsoft.Messenger.plist and
    com.microsoft.Messenger.rtc.plist.
In /Users/username/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/, drag the following file
to the Trash: Microsoft Messenger User Cache.plist.
    Open Messenger.
    The Messenger Setup Assistant opens.
Follow the steps in the Setup Assistant to reenter sign-in information.

I've got the same problem. I tried the solution that you tried as well and it did not work. I still have the same problem. It appears to be an external problem because I can't sign-in on any of my macs on the 1 account (but I haven't tried bootcamp yet).
    I can sign-in on web-based IMs.

  • Screen vibrates when booting up. It fluctuates very fast between Safari and Microsoft Messenger. Back and forth .... flicking away .... back and forth, very, very, quickly. And then when its completely finished booting, everything is OK.

I sign in and when Safari opens, whilst Microsoft Messenger is downloading, the monitor screen vibrates between Safari and Messenger at a very, very, fast pace. Back and forth, back and forth, alternating between the two. When the booting process is completed the computer is fine. Everything is OK. Anyone know what is causing this, and what to do about it?

YES .... but they have always been set to open at login. I must admit that if Messenger isn't set to open at login this doesn't happen. But even though Safari opens at login, the opening page in Safari doesn't open; I have to click on Safari again, (when I am reminded after the computer has booted-up), because the monitor screen is just blank! Then after a click on the Safari icon the screen fills up in a second. Gees, what have I unintentionally done?

  • Microsoft messenger reading as a hard drive image on desktop

I've just got my mac, downloaded microsoft messenger for mac and i don't know what's gone wrong but theres a icon on my desktop reading "microsoft messenger" and when I try to eject it is says "the disk microsoft messenger is in use and could not be ejected. try quitting applications and try again"
Is there any way to resolve this?
    Thanks

Software for Mac OS X usually comes packed as a ".dmg" or ".pkg" file. If you have downloaded the file from Mactopia (Microsoft's Mac page) then it's dmg. Double-click on one of these files and it will get mounted like a real partition or removable device (e.g. like a usb stick). If you didn't change the default settings of Safari (the built-in web-browser) downloaded dmg-files are mounted automatically this way.
Just double-click the icon on your screen and wait for a window to pop up that indicates to drag-and-drop the "Microsoft Messenger" icon to the "Applications" folder. Do that. This way you install software in Mac OS X (i.e. by dragging it into your Applications folder). Now the program should be available for you to use.
If you still can't remove or delete the icon on your desktop try rebooting your machine. Afterwards you should be able to delete the downloaded dmg-file (you won't need it anymore).
Hope this helps. Let me know if that solved your question.

  • Microsoft Messenger for Mac--makes me go crazy!

I have just done a full system restore, and as my friends are all crummy windows users, i installed Microsoft Messenger 5.0. Normally, when i sign in my status is always 'appear offline', but now, my status is always online.
How can i choose to always appear offline like 3 days ago?
    *nathan

    Ola,
I had the same (small) problem at first. I'm not sure from your description whether it is a small problem or a bigger one, but here's what I did to set it to "offline":
Now, when you click on the MSN icon it automatically log on, right? Your settings are probably set to show yourself being online. Just log off again and choose "sign in with a different account" and you should see a screen which gives you the option how to show yourself whenever you sign in. So choose the offline option and this should be your new settings for when you're logging in. Tell me if this helps,
    Cheers

  • App version of Skype won't sign in

For some reason the Skype app on my install of Windows 8.1 Enterprise will not sign me in. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling it a couple of times.
I've tried the steps outlined here: http://community.skype.com/t5/Modern-Windows-for-users-on/Oops-there-was-a-problem-Please-restart-Skype-or-try-again/m-p/1271790/highlight/true#M3388 I tried sfc /scannow still no luck.
Still can't get it to sign in for some reason. My login works just fine for the desktop app, but I like being able to snap the Skype app to the side of a monitor for chatting, but for the life of me I can't figure out why it won't sign in.
It just sits there attempting to sign in for roughly 3 minutes and then fails with Oops...There was a problem, please restart Skype or Try Again. Any further ideas on this?

Then why the heck do you still have it on the store like it works? And why just a generic "Something went wrong" error message than having it say "we can't sign you in because this version of Skype has been deprecated"? I wasted four and a half hours this morning troubleshooting this because nobdoy at Microsoft stopped and thought to have the common courtesty to maybe have an actually informative error message about the failed sign in and remove the non-working application from the Microsoft Store.
Jeez, and here I was thinking Microsoft was a professional company that cared about end user experience. Nope, they just leave you with a cryptic error message making you think it's something wrong on your side rather than the truth...
Also, thank you so much for removing wonderful features that worked without any problems whatsoever before. I don't know what I would have done had I been able to keep using Skype conveniently...
And that isn't even to mention how it breaks the People app too. It has your Skype contacts in there, but now since Skype doesn't work when you go in there and tell it to IM or call someone it just goes "durr, I don't know what to do."
If you're going to change a workflow like that, at least tell the other places that rely on the Moden Skype app to gracefully redirect to the new worflow.

  • Microsoft Messenger help...

Is there some way I can delete recent users on Microsoft Messenger on my iMac? Before I sign into Messenger, there is a list of email addresses from other users who at some point or another have signed in on my Messenger using their own personal sign-in name. I want to know if there is some way I can delete that list of email addresses (sign-in names). Any help is appreciated!

P.S. "Since (said application) is not an Apple product, you should go somewhere else for help is really getting old. Real old"
In all fairness, Templeton is pointing Ryan in the direction to get better help and at the same time is helping others find answers to their questions.
Most online forums serve two purposes, not just one. They 1.) Offer help to the person posting the question and 2.) Provide ongoing help for those who search these forums for answers.
Not to be offensive to Ryan but Messenger has nothing to do with Mac and Windows compatibility. He's most likely posted this message here because he associates Messenger with Windows. A lot of Mac folks lump all Microsoft products (Office, Messenger, Windows, etc.) together as "Windows", which is akin to a Windows user lumping iLife, QuickTime and iPods together as Mac OS X. But this isn't correct. We're talking about Apple and Microsoft products.
The spirit of folks who post LOTS of answers here isn't to belittle anyone. It's to help. Helping someone doesn't always mean spoon feeding an answer. It includes guidance and education as well.
    Very sincerely, bill

  • Microsoft Messenger Question

My ex-exchange student started up my Microsoft Messenger and then I added my name and password at the start up field. How do I delete this girls account (name)? Sorry if I am in the wrong forum.
    Thanks in advance.

    OK.
I am using Microsoft Messenger v6.0.1. Are you using the same?
From within the application I go to Messenger - Preferences - Accounts.
There are two tabs. One personal, one corporate. My details are under "personal".
There's a radio button next to my email address which says "change". From here you enter the username and password you wish to be the default on sign in.
    That should be about it!

  • Microsoft Messenger only bounces sometimes

    Hello
I have some problems with my Microsoft Messenger. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. My preferences are set to make the icon jump every time I receive a new message, but it only seems to work sometimes.
One day it may work the whole day, and others day it won't work at all. I know this seems like an odd problem, but I would be really glad if it could be fixed
    Kind regards
    VOS

I've done that now, didn't seem to help
    Any other suggestions?
