Microsoft office 2004 not working

Whenever I try to open any office applications they'll bounce on the bar a fe times but nothing opens. I've repaired the disk permissions and it didn't work. I downloaded the update but whenever I try to open it only almost starts but nothing comes up.

Classically this can be related to corrupt preferences. Go to Home > Library > Preferences You will see a bunch of files starting with com.microsoft., an application name, and ending in .plist Move one or more of these files (I don't know exactly what they all do and it appears there may be some general ones) to someplace other than that folder and try the application again. Note that if this works you can safely trash the file as it will be created again with default settings (so you may need to reset some of your preferences).

My Microsoft Office 2004 stopped working after upgrading to Mountain Lion.  How can I get it to work again, or, how can I uninstall MT?

Office 2004 Applications Won't Work in Lion
You must have Office 2004 which is a PPC-only suite and will not work in Lion. You need to upgrade to Office 2011 - Mactopia - or you can try the freeware suite, Libre Office, that is functionally similar to Office 2007 for Windows except it works on Lion.
You may want to consider as well:
These two suites are similar to Libre Office but not as current or as well-supported:
    NeoOffice
    Open Office
And, then there is Apple's iWork suite:
Pages - word processing and layout
    Keynote - presentation
    Numbers - spreadsheet
Each can open and save Office compatible files. They may be purchased separately via the Mac App Store for $19.99 each.
(Access to the Mac App Store requires Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or higher and an Apple ID.)

  • Installed Yosemite and Microsoft Office does not work. How do Apple do it? Help!!

Installed Yosemite and now Microsoft Office does not work. Help!!

What version of Office is it, and what version of OS X were you running prior to your upgrade? You need to be on Office 2008 or later, and Office 2011 is preferable.

  • Office 2004 not working in Lion

As the title says, but does anyone know if this verison is longer supportive in Lion and whether any recent version of office will work?
    Cheers,
    John

Office 2004 is a PowerPC application, and those are not supported in Lion.  Newer versions of Office will work fine.
Not that I know why anyone would want to go from Office 2004 to Office 2008 since newer versions of Office are available.  But just in case...  If you have Office 2008 installed, it would be fine after upgrading to Lion.  However, you cannot actually install Office 2008 in Lion.  While all of the Office 2008 applications are Intel compatible, for some reason, Microsoft chose to not upgrade the actual installer... so the installer required Rosetta.  Thats Microsoft for ya.

  • Microsoft Office will not work with Lion!

Have just installed Lion, now I can not use microsoft office (Word,XL,PPS), message says "POWERPC applications no longer supported" Any help appreciated.

Sounds like you are using Office 2004 or earlier and if so, as the error message provide indicates, PowerPC applications are no longer supported with Lion, and Office 2004 was witten for Macs with a PowerPC processor. The reason PowerPC applications worked on Macs with Intel processors prior to Lion was due to what is called Rosetta, which is no longer supported with Lion.
I believe Office 2008 or whatever the next version was after 2004 and Office 2011 is supported since these are witten for Macs with an Intel processor with OS X.

  • Will my Microsoft Office 2004 still work if I upgrade to Yosemite (currently using Snow Lepoard)

I never upgraded to Maverick because of a pop-up warning that suggested my older Microsoft Office program would no longer work.  Don't really want or need to deal with paying for a new Office, esp a subscription based on.  Trying to decide if upgrading is worth the hassel or if it is even a problem.  Thanks for your help! MS Office 2004 has not been compatible with OS X since Lion, OS X 10.7. You will need to either purchase a new license of MS Office or you can use one of the free MS Office look alikes such as LibreOffice (http://www.libreoffice.org/). You also may still be able to find MS Office for Mac 2011 which works fine on Yosemitie, you can find that on Amazon and even Ebay.

  • Microsoft Office 2004 Not Functional After OS X Lion Install

I have installed OS X Lion and MIcrososft Office 2004 for MAC no longer works.
I am aware that this was one of the errors with the software.
Might anyone have any idea when this might be resolved or if anyone knows how it might be fixable, feel free to comment as you would like.
    Thanks for your time.

It's not an error with Lion.  They said it would NOT support software for power PC  from the get go.  You'll have to update your MS Office software.

  • Microsoft Office 2004 only works on 1 client despite open license?

    Can anyone offer some advice?
I have 11 clients on my network. I have installed office 2004 on each client and the server. Whenever a user logs on and opens offic it firstly installs the all the fonts and stuff and then works fine. When a second user logs in and opens office it goes through all the font stuff and then opens but then says office is in use and then closes.
I think I can cure the font thing by removing the "do fonts" file. but opening multiple copies just doesn't work? Its obviously to do with he licsenses. OUr school has an open license and the install disk is our open licsense copy.
    Any thoughts?
    Cheers
    Chris

This is a debate I am having with my IT dept. When I right click on the word icon on the dock to show in finder it seems to say it is launching from the client drive but I'm not convinced.
I have read that I would need to install te server tools on the client to control what items appear in the dock? I am a little confuesed by this.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks for the reply

  • Microsoft Office 2011 not working with OSX Mavericks

    Hello,
I downloaded OSX Mavericks within the past two or three days, and I've been able to use Microsoft Word just fine. I tried opening PowerPoint today and it crashed, so I updated the Microsoft Office package. Now, I cannot open anything but Messenger.

Went through this exact problem two weeks ago.
Basically, when I installed I then updated and only Word would open correctly. After calling the help desk and going through a ton of suggestions we got it to work by doing update 14.1.0 and then opening Word and updating to 14.1.2. This fixed my problem and it hasn't repeated... and I use the whole office suite daily.
IIRC it was the 14.1.2 update after 14.1.0 that did it, however you can call Microsoft support... just make sure you have about 45 minutes available if you have to do some serious troubleshooting if the two updates don't fix it for you. Keep in mind this worked for me so YMMV.

  • Microsoft office 2011 not working on macbook air?

    Hi,
I have just installed microsoft office 2011 on my macbook air, it appeared to be installed correctly but I can not open Word, Powerpoint etc. Upon trying to open the programs an error message saying I should rebuild the Database utility appears, once I click out of that it just freezes and I can do nothing, not even close it.
I'm not overly tech savvy, so any help would be really appreciated.
    Thanks

Uninstall Office (do it correctly, per Microsofts instructions) and then reinstall it.

  • Microsoft office 2003 not working after software update

I tried opening up my MS Word and Powerpoint programs last night by clicking on their icons.  It did not open.  However, I opened the programs a few weeks ago when I created several documents but now nothing.  But at the same time it does open my existing files using these programs.  And when that's happened, I am able to close the existing file and do a FILE: NEW and save with no additional issues.
I have a feeling that the most recent Software Update 2011-002 is to blame.  Just like when previous versions were to blame when it disabled my previous version of Photoshop.  Also, just as the last Safari update a while back still continues to cause problems for me when I try to check my email on AOL for Desktop for Macs forcing me to go directly to www.aol.com over the web.
What can I do to remedy this problem without having to purchase an updated version of MS Office?  I personally don't believe the latest version of MS Office will work on my laptop because it DOES NOT have the Intel chip.  Unfortunately, I purchased my laptop just prior to the Mac Intel processors came out on the market.
In conclusion, each time the program crashed or stalled when I tried opening it multiple times I sent a report to Apple.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Send me an email if necessary.  I don't always log into the Apple site.
    Thanks, Christie

  • Microsoft Office 2011 not working with Mountain Lion

I just upgraded to mountain lion last night.... I can not access anything in my microsoft 2011 suite that has been installed on my macbook for about a year. I get a microsoft error reporting pop up and will not open. It stops on "Opening font 16%" on the microsoft startup......?
    How do I fix this?

I also came to the conclusion that it must be a font issue, but i've got hundreds of non-standard fonts that i use...  time to clean house!  Thanks for the tip.

  • Microsoft Office does not work after purchasing Lion

    see title as my question

    Steve,
I had problems with Entourage in Office 2008 after I got my new MacBook Pro with Lion installed. I would recommend just getting Office 2011 for Mac. I've come to love Outlook and have had no problems with the suite. It can be had for under $150 if you shop around but there was no 'upgrade' pricing going from 2008.

  • Microsoft office isn't working on my Mac anymore

I have tried to open Microsoft Word on my Mac for the past week and it won't let me login. My product key is also claimed to be invalid. It is already downloaded on my computer and has been for about 3 months now. It just started doing this. The error code is 0x80048823. How do I fix this? I have already tried restarting my computer. Microsoft Office is not working at all. It comes up as if I'm a new user saying enter product key, sign in to existing acct, or 30 free-trial. I try signing in and that's when it gives me an error code. I tried entering  my product key to reinstall it maybe? That's when it said product key invalid. I need them to work ASAP! I am a college student and this is extremely inconvenient.

USUALLY, when you're asked to log in (if you're running Office 2011) the app is asking you to log into your Office 365 account. I just had my logic board replaced AND installed a higher capacity SSD, having to clone my old SSD to the new one. I got the message that you describe BUT I do have an Office 365 account.
You might get lucky calling MS: or, as Bob suggests, post on the Office for Mac users forum.
    Good luck,
    Clinton
