Microsoft Office 2011 Installed on Macbook, But Won't Open

Hi all. I'm running Mac OS X (10.7.5) on a white Macbook. I had a problem with my old Word software (it would crash if I tried to use bullet points or open a saved doc), so I completely uninstalled Microsoft Office including all the Microsoft files in the Preferences folder. I restarted and then installed Microsoft Office 11 for Mac + Service Pack 1 via a trusted download offered by my college. It installed successfully apparently, but when I try to open the applications, they do not open. Even Microsoft Office Setup Assistant tried to open itself immediately after installation but just bounced in my Dock and then disappeared.
Has this happened to any of you? I'm not super well-versed with the "behind the scenes" details of my machine, so I really appreciate any help you can provide. And if you need more info about my system, please let me know! Thank you so much!!

a simple reboot took care of the problem. good grief!
thanks for the help, kglad.

Well, first, just make sure it's the Mac version and not the Windows version (which indeed would not run on your Mac). You say "Windows Office" which is why I mention it. I think you probably just mean "Microsoft Office" though.
Next, is this on a disk (DVD), or did you purchase and download it from the Microsoft site?

  • How do I download microsoft office 2011 on a macbook pro without the cd?

I have bought a microsoft office 2011 program. I wonder how I can download this on my comupter without using the cd?

Get a external cd drive or return the cd to the store and download it instead.
If you don't exactly need to use Office, there is a great donationware/free alternative that is compatible and totally cross platfrom (Linux, Windows and OS X) so your files are never locked up.

  • Microsoft Office 2008 - trying to reload but won't accept key codes

    Hi everyone,
Bif of a comuter novice so I appreciate all help.
So, my MacBook Pro had a bit of a meltdown (kept turning itself off & finally refused to turn on at all) recently so I took it to the Genius Bar.  They had to wipe it completely for a reset which meant losing Office 2008.  After the restart the chap in the store loaded OS X Mavericks.
When I finally found my original Office 2008 disc I put it in & tried to enter the key codes on the back but it said they were all invalid.  I've had a look on the website but can't find any pointers.
Can anyone take pity on this computer illiterate person & help me, please?
    Thanks

There is no limit to the number of times you can re-install Office on the same computer.
    You can activate by telephone:

Either use the installation disc that came with your purchase or download the 'trial' version from Microsoft and enter in your activation key when prompted.

  • I ordered Office 2011 with my MBA, but only the trial version came installed - and no product key was ever emailed to me or included in the shipment. Three calls each to Apple and Microsoft have not solved this.

I ordered Microsoft Office 2011 with my Macbook Air, but only the trial version came installed - and no product key for the full version was ever emailed to me or included in the shipment. Three calls each to Apple and Microsoft have not solved this and I am at wit's end. Each company blames it on the other - I don't care whose fault it is, I just want the product key so I can use Microsoft Office!  Please help.

You should have received a DVD in the box (with the MBA).

Call AppleCare (they need to send you a DVD, which has the Product Key printed on the sleeve).

  • Microsoft office 2011 not working on macbook air?

    Hi,
I have just installed microsoft office 2011 on my macbook air, it appeared to be installed correctly but I can not open Word, Powerpoint etc. Upon trying to open the programs an error message saying I should rebuild the Database utility appears, once I click out of that it just freezes and I can do nothing, not even close it.
I'm not overly tech savvy, so any help would be really appreciated.
    Thanks

Uninstall Office (do it correctly, per Microsofts instructions) and then reinstall it.

  • How do I reinstall microsoft office 2011 on my computer?

    HI,
I have bought Microsoft Office 2011 with my macbook. I factory reset it without backing up any application so I lost my office programs. I tried to reinstall two ways... One with the CD that came in the box, and online, but both had the same negative result.
I got terminal to open everytime I try to open the install folder in the .dmg file. I don't know how to reinstall Microsoft Office!
    Help please!
    Thanks.

This really is a user-to-user discussion forum for the MacBook Pro, specifically for hardware issues (thought we go off topic on occasion).  You really need to take your question, if you have the product key, to the Microsoft website.  They also have a vibrant discussion area, and I'm sure someone will help you.  If you have the product key.

  • Microsoft Office 2011 on OS X Lion

I'm using Microsoft Office 2011 with my MacBook Air running OS X Lion. Wondering it always opens with the last document I used instead of a blank document/spreadsheet/presentation. Any ideas on why this happens and how to turn if off?

  • I have Microsoft Office 2011 Student Edition installed on MacBook Pro; Can I install Microsoft Office Windows 2008 onto Mac without deleting Microsoft Office 2011?

I have previously installed Microsoft Office Student Edition 2011 on my MacBook Pro.  While installing Microsoft Office 2008 Windows; message prompts to delete Microsoft Office 2011.  Is there a way around this issue?

Office 2008 was a Mac version. The equvalent Win version is 2007. So there is no "Office 2008 Windows." Which version are your trying to install?
Are you using Boot Camp to run Win on your MBP and want to install Office for Win there? I can't see that being a problem..
I do know that the regular version of Office Mac won't run properly if the trial version is present. The installer is set up to look for other versions, resumably to keep the trial version and the regualr from clashing.
Office Mac 2011 is equiv to Office for Win 2010

  • So when I installed the most recent updates for microsoft office 2011 for mac, my ical info disappeared.  Still have the info on my Office calendar but it's no longer on ical.  It's also been removed from my phone.  How can I get outlook to sync with ical

When I installed the recent updates for Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac, my iCal calendar was wiped out, as was the calendar on my iPhone.  I'd rather use iCal than Office and was attempting to phase Office out altogether.  Now, all of my information is on the Office calendar but not iCal.  The iCloud version of my iCal calendar is not up to date.  In any event, I couldn't figure out how to send that info to the iCal on my mac or my phone.  How can I sync my Office calendar info to iCal?  If that's not possible, how can I get my Office calendar to sync with my iPhone?  All of my sync services are set up in iTunes and on my phone.  This happened to me once before and I spent hours on the phone with Apple and on the web trying to work it out.  I NEED MY CALENDAR!!!! PLEASE HELP!!!!!

As that's not an Apple product, you may get more help by using Microsoft's Office for Mac forums:

The other concern I have is that Office 2011 requires an Intel-based Mac and you posted in the older iMac (pre-Intel or "PPC") forums. If you have an Intel-based iMac (Apple menu > About this Mac..." will say "Intel" if you do) then I think you'll get faster and more accurate ansers to other questiosn in the Apple forums for newer iMacs here:

I have installed Lion and Microsoft Office 2011.  I want to uninstall Office 2004, but of course I cannot run the application to uninstall, because I get the "PowerPC applications are no longer supported" message.  Suggestions?

Go to this microsoft site http://support.microsoft.com/kb/312172 and/or this microsoft site http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2398768.  I would suggest removing both to start with a clean slate.  I had some problems with installing Office for Mac 2011 over 2008 and found out that by completely removing both and starting from a clean slate provided the best solution.  Kappy is correct but some sniglets do get left behind.  Hope this helps.  Cheers.

  • I've downloaded Microsoft Office 2011 and installed it, but i can't find it on my applications or open it up in my downloads

I've downloaded Microsoft Office 2011 and installed it, but i can't find it on my applications or open it up in my downloads. I can I get my microsoft up and running? - New to Mac

Did you actually run the installer? If so, there should be a Microsoft Office 2011 folder in your Applications folder. Have you checked there and confirmed that the folder does not exist? If it does not, try running the Office installer again. Note that if all you did is open the disk image file, you have to now go to the image (which looks like a drive in Finder) and then run the installer.
    Regards.
