Microsoft Office and Mac OS X 10.6 Issues
Two weeks ago I installed Snow Leopard to my Mac hoping it would be an upgrade. Everything works well other than my Microsoft Office, and as a student, this is a huge problem. I have Word 2004, and now it freezes all the time. What can I do to fix this?
Thanks,
Amanda
Hi, Amanda & welcome to the forums.
I'm not going to lecture you about software compatibility - I'm sure you can do the math between 2004 & 2009, but I will warn you about a common issue with fonts that old...
The general approach at this time is to ask if you've checked for any problematic fonts with Apple's Font Book (look in the Applications folder). Be sure to find and remove all duplicates also.
Start there to be sure all fonts that are in play come out with a clean bill of health.
Also, don't hesisate to perform wholesale deletion of old and/or little used fonts - be skeptical of anything that has come from any MS Equation Editor installation and good luck.
I would also suggest you take a look at iWork '09 with Pages. You can download a trial version. I think it would be a good step in concert with your new OS to get current with a new word processor as well.

I just upgraded my MAC from OSX 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard and then to Mountain Lion 10.8.2. When I try to access my Microsoft Office for MAC (2004 edition) files I am getting a message "can't open Office because Power PC applications are no longer supported. How can I access all of my save Word documents? I just want to be able to retrieve all of my documents that were in Microsoft Office for Mac (2004). If I purchase the newest version of MS office for Mac from Apple will I be able to retrieve my old documents?
Use any number of free alternatives to your nearly decade old version of MS Office.
Consider
LibreOffice (donation-supported)
NeoOffice (free)
OpenOffice (free)
In addition to the above I also recommend Apple's Pages ($19.99). I use OpenOffice and Pages and have been completely Microsoft - free for years. Life is better without Microsoft. -

Is there a difference between microsoft office for mac and for windows?
As a college student it's important that everything is equal for windows and mac for using instructions. So i am wondering if theres a difference between microsoft office for mac and for windows?
There are differences between the two version of Office. If you need to be exactly like the Windows version, you will have to run Windows on your Mac.

trying to do an upgrade to microsoft office for mac. Asks to Stop deamon and other processes How do I stop?
You switch to the applications that are named, and quit them. But sometimes they are, like daemons, not normal applications. For those, you need to open Activity Monitor, find the name of the daemon in the list of processes in the Activity Monitor window, select the process and choose View/Quit Process.

Or you could just wipe out Lion and restalled Snow Leopard. Then when you are in the market for a new computer, desktop of notebook, buy something other then Apple.
why would you say things like that here? if you are a windows one then stay there. but you are not polite or helpful and if can't use Apple i wonder why you would come here to tell all about your sad story. I don't understand that it has nothing to do with question asked.
I own, or should I say have owned, several Apple products. Including a new MBP.
I also use Windows.
I will say anything I like in an effort to help people overcome problems they are having with Mac's and computers in general.
Being a Apple Fanboy is not required for membership on this forum or trying to help other Mac users.
And just how is suggesting to remove Lion and to go back to Snow Leopard not helping the OP in his quest to make his already owned and paid for MS Office software work? If it is isn't broken stop trying to fix it. Snow Leopard is a fine OS. Lion is still in Beta, only Apple hasn't told anyone. And yes I run Lion on my new MBP but I also have a partition with Snow Leopard on it.
Thank you and have a great day. -
I have a voucher to be used on the app store, is there anyway I can use it to purchase and download Microsoft Office for Mac?
No, only for apps available on the App Store. Office is not one of them.

Do I need to buy 2 different Microsoft Office products if I want to be able to use my new Mac with Microsoft Office for Mac and also use files saved on my work computer which uses Microsoft Window 2007?

Sorry, but your likely going to have to use Windows 7 and Office on your Mac at work using Bootcamp.
Although you can share files OfficeMac and Office on Windows, the formatting will be off because two platforms use different installed fonts and formatting. This will cause a productivity lost and require extra editing at work
If you could share just PDF's then your fine, but that will unlikely be the case.
So to share files seamlessly your going to have to install Windows 7 (another $300) full version, 64 bit, using Apple's Bootcamp.
https://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
It's ok, though, you can boot into OS X to use that online and surfing etc at home. It's the internet and sharing of files from other Windows users that cause Windows to hoze up, so mimimalize both of those and you should be fine.
You can also run Windows 7 in a virtual machine software like Parallels or VMFusion. as long as you don't have any super demanding needs of the hardware, like running 3D games or super intense CPU actions like video processing. Office work is just fine and it's safer than Bootcamp, as in a virtual machine you can keep "snapshots" of previous states of the OS, and revert back to in case something goes wrong in mere seconds.
A real good piece of news though, Windows 8 is so radically changed from Windows 7, that your workplace will remain with Windows 7 as long as possible to put off all the retraining necessary with that new OS version.
So think of the $300 + $60 investment in Windows on your Mac as a longterm thing. -
Adobe Acrobat Pro XI and Microsoft Office for Mac 2011
I do not have Acrobat available in the Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 task bar. (Mac OS 10.8.3)
I have searched, and my understanding is that these two programs are not compatible. Has a plugin or something been developed to do this?
What functionality is missed by not having this?
Thanks,
DonnaThere's no plugin for the Mac version of Office, but you can still use Acrobat by printing to the PDF Printer to generate a PDF from your Office files.
(PS - you should post Acrobat-related questions in the Acrobat forums, not the Reader ones) -
I purchased MacBook Air I have a Microsoft Offic and School for Mac. Is there a way to download this product using info from the box since I can't put the disk in the Air
You can download the trial: https://www.microsoft.com/mac/trial
There should be a place to register in which you could enter your code. It may only ask you to register after the thirty days, I can't recall. -
installing microsoft office for mac and getting prompt for installer password. i have put in apple id password and admin password and not working, i have also reset my admin password 3 times and it is still not working? how do i get past this?
You don't use your Apple ID or its password to install anything on your Mac. You use the admin account's name and password.
Use the name and password you last entered when resetting them. The "name" you use is not the short name of the admin account folder.
For example. If you create an admin account of John Smith, the short name given to that account's folder will be johnsmith. So when an app requests an admin name and password to install something, the admin name you enter is John Smith, not johnsmith. -

To get your files remove the hard drive from the dead computer and put it into an external enclosure, connect to either the firewire or usb port of your mac depending on which enclosure you buy and get your files. The dead motherboard should have no ill effect on your files as long as the hard drive still works.
A good source for enclosures is

I would like to get data analysis for solving statistic and making graphs, but this function is not in add-in. How should I do? I also set up microsoft office for mac 2011.
Microsoft didn't include that with the 2011 version.
There is a third-party application that substitutes for the add-in: http://www.analystsoft.com/en/products/statplusmac/
They also have a limited, free version.
