  • Office download problem

    Hi
I have just downloaded Microsoft Office onto my sons IMac logged on under my user account however when my son logs on the software is not available to him. I assumed it would be available to all users as it is on the same machine?? Is there anything I can do make it available to all users or move it onto my sons log in??
    Many thanks,

You can set up and create more than one Administrator Account on a computer running Mac OS X... I've done it with some of my own.
    https://www.google.com/#q=Mac+OS+X+more+than+one+admin+account+in+computer
There are a few Support based links in the above results page.
There are slightly different rules involved, and to oversee several, a 'superuser' need be created or accessed to administer larger problems that may arise: Privileges, permissions, and ownership issues over files, etc.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Problem: Mount Failed

Whenever I launch iPhoto 7.0.1 I get the following message:
    Mount Failed.
Could not mount volume "My Book".
If I click "OK" The message pops up again over and over untill I quit iPhoto
My Book is å WD My Book Pro connected via Airport Extreme.... or it WAS connected... it no longer works. No pictures from the library were stored on the disc. I tried deleting iPhoto and airport disk util's plist files. I also moved the library, so iPhoto would not find it. After doing all these things, and rebooting, I still have the problem (with a new library w/o any photos!)
The problem is user spesific; other users are not affected.
    Any help would be appreciated

Thanks for the tip. I had the same problem and indeed it was fixed by removing aliases to disk images from my User >Movies folder. However, I need those aliases there in order to access different disk images for viewing movies using the menu system in Front Row with the remote control on my iMac. Hopefully Apple will release a fix for this. Can anyone think of a workaround in the meantime?

  • Adobe reader/Microsoft Office 2003 problem

When downloading pdf file which opened to Microsoft Office I was presented with a File conversion window which invited me to " Select the encoding that makes your document readable"
I have not come across this before and have previously successfully downloaded files from the same source.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks.
    Alistair.

Usually you can just right-click on a pdf and choose Open With and instead of choosing something from the list instead select Choose Program at the bottom of the flyout. Then choose Reader and then check Always use the selected program...you should now be able to click on a pdf and have it open in Reader instead of Word.
    Good Luck!

  • Microsoft Office download vs. product key card???

    Hello,
I just purchased a Surface Pro 3 and would like to add Microsoft Office software on to it; but, I do not know the difference between the download version and the product key card version.
    Can someone please enlighten me?
    Thanks!

I'm not sure if you are allowed to sell the key card... I'm pretty sure you can't either way. You may want to talk with your local bestbuy about that one.
office 365 is a subscription based one that i used more on tablets and such than anything else. I personally don't suggest it unless you have no other option. Home and Business has like outlook on it and such, the student version does NOT have outlook.
It can vary by your likes but I personally for the most part have gone all digital so I would always suggest digital downloads. I already buy all of my games digital.
I am not affiliated with Best Buy nor have I ever been employed by Best Buy. All of my thoughts and posts are of my own opinion and personal experience.
I may not always know the right answer, but I will always tell you what I do know. I also do free computer analysis and consultation via private message.

  • Microsoft Office Preview Problem (QuickLook)

So I had the unfortunate idea to install Microsoft Office 2011 on my macbook, this however rendered Lion's new .DOC preview functuinality null as it now only displays the preview as the document icon, as well as the thumbnail. It disabled the normal preview of all Office files, and defaulted the QuickLook generator to some kind of 'Office Import' generator. I ran the following to reload the QuickLook cache:
    qlmanage -r
    Which returned:
    qlmanage: resetting quicklookd
Then, retrying to generate the preview image...
    qlmanage -p SecondDraft_Jul28.doc
    It returned:
Testing Quick Look preview with files:
              wyatt_AGU_LM_SecondDraft_Jul28.doc
[WARNING] Office import returned an error generating preview for SecondDraft_Jul28.doc: -1
I then uninstalled Office via http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2398768 and then restarted my computer, re-tried the above commands, same response. I also even attempted to remove the QuickLook pref file:
    com.apple.QuickLookDaemon.plist
Any help to get the Lion preview/quicklook restored would be awesome!

  • Lion / Microsoft Office 2011 problems

  • Mavericks and Microsoft Office 2011 (Problem even after Complete format of MBPRO)

After Mavericks Install on my MBPRO I ran into problems with Word 2011.
I completely updated it and Mavericks.
What happens is that when I open some Word files, Word crashes without a say, but I can open them as Guest.
I thought I would fix the problem by formatting my computer and reinstall everything on it, but I get the same problem!
I did not use time machine nor migration assistant or any such way to restore my computer, so there is no way that old user files could be causing this!
What on earth can I do!
BTW I have Microsoft Word: 14.3.8
    MAC OS X
    Software  OS X 10.9 (13A603)

I saw some other threads that indicated certain fonts were causing the issue.  I believe they had to remove Office and then reinstall which would only have the package fonts. Do a search and see if you can find those comments.

  • Microsoft Office Entourage, problem receiving mail

I have set up Microsoft Entourage to send E-Mail but it will not receive E-mail.
Whenever I select the button (Click here for advanced settings) ((in the receiving mail part of preferences)) the advanced settings window pops up, I then click the box (Override default POP Port) then I change to the correct POP port.
I then exit the advanced settings window with all the settings correct, Entourage automatically turns off the override button, I then cannot receive E-mail.
Whatever I do it will always turn off the override POP box
Does anyone know why? And maybe how to fix the problem?
    Thank You

Since Entourage is not an Apple product, you should really consider posting your question on Microsoft's own forums for Entourage, as they would be more focused on the issue than an Apple forum that deals with Apple's own Mail and Address Book applications:

  • Microsoft office download

Hi.  Just got this lovely, wonderful, MB Pro and now I am looking for a downloadable version of MS Office.  Does this exist yet? (I have flash memory).
I can wait...(as What used to be known as iWork is available) but need it for work.

Yes, there is a downloadable MS Office ... but it's a 30-day trial.  After 30 days you still have to buy it.

  • Microsoft Office saving problem

Running 10.6.4 server and client machines - AD and OD users saving to snow leopard server home directories. Can save a word or other office document initially, but on second revision we get an error message stating that the file is open or in use. It seems this has something to do with .TemporaryItems, but I need direction (explicit) on how to create those .TemporaryItems and make them work. Many thanks in advance.

If computers are bound to the AD (and the OD for MCX) AND you have setup true network home folders on a server (the default for an AD connection is user homefolder is local to the user computer /Users) when a user logs in and he/she is using the AD account credentials the AD UID ("long" row of numbers) is used.
If the user is supposed to save only to his/hers own homefolder UIDs shouldn't matter because that folder isn't shared with others, but having read/write permissions to the root of their homefolder (or really .Temporaryitems) does.
When you use network homes and no portable accounts (local copy of network homefolder can sync with network home) when you save to for example the Desktop or Documents folders, you are already on the server so no need to do anything else.
On shared volumes UIDs and having read/write permissions to the .Temporaryitems folders on shared volume matters.
It is possible to have only the server connected/bound to the AD and use local accounts on the client computer (bound to AD/OD doesn't matter if using a local account) for logging in on the local computer and then use the AD credentials to connect to server shares. Then you most likely would have UID problems.

  • Microsoft Office Suite problems.

got MS Office Suite and hate it already. It has nothing of any use and QuickOffice Pro seems to do the jobs much better. Now I cannot remove the damn thing and it hogs up space on my C: drive. So before I make a balls up of my phone once again, is it possible to remove without re-installing Symbian Belle? Microsoft come up with all sorts of space wasting rubbish it's no surprise WP7 hasn't sold.

  • Trouble installing Microsoft Office home and student 2010

    Hi,
I'm new to Apple, i'm trying to insatl Microsoft office home and student 2010 onto my mac but it keeps saying "you can't open the application "setup.exe" because microsoft windows does not support the application"
    could anyone help?
    Kind regards
    Jordan

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
It looks like you are trying to install Office 2010 on OS X. That's not possible because that version is for Windows, so you have to install Windows on your Mac. As you are going to use it only for Microsoft Office, download Parallels, VMware Fusion or VirtualBox, and install Windows on a virtual machine.
Another option is to purchase Office for Mac > http://www.microsoft.com/mac

I purchased Microsoft Office for Mac through the Apple website.. I have downloaded all from the disk into my Mac, no problem with all the other Word etc, but Outlook is asking for the key number: I have put it in but its obviously not the right one...???? In the box with the disk came the product key, have put it in and it doesnt work. Please help..x

unfortunately - you can not.  you can't even buy outlook by itself at microsoft's own website.
does it have to be outlook?  maybe you can get away with using something else that's outlook compatible.
how about trying Thunderbird for Mac OS?
or maybe you can call apple and let them know you purchase the wrong version - they might give you a break and just pay the difference for the home and business version.
    good luck
