Microsoft Office Entourage, problem receiving mail

I have set up Microsoft Entourage to send E-Mail but it will not receive E-mail.
Whenever I select the button (Click here for advanced settings) ((in the receiving mail part of preferences)) the advanced settings window pops up, I then click the box (Override default POP Port) then I change to the correct POP port.
I then exit the advanced settings window with all the settings correct, Entourage automatically turns off the override button, I then cannot receive E-mail.
Whatever I do it will always turn off the override POP box
Does anyone know why? And maybe how to fix the problem?
Thank You

Since Entourage is not an Apple product, you should really consider posting your question on Microsoft's own forums for Entourage, as they would be more focused on the issue than an Apple forum that deals with Apple's own Mail and Address Book applications:

Is anyone having problems receiving mail on iCloud right now?

My daughter is having problems, has since last night. So, I guess she is one of you 1.1% who are affected. My husband & I are not having the problem. Since she is at work, I did some research on the problem for her and bumped into this forum. I did respond to the Report to Apple. She did the same several times. I hope everyone is reporting when that window option pops up so that Apple can see the real size of the problem....

  • Problems receiving mail to Mail Server

I have recently purchased the Mac Mini with OSX Server Lion on it.
We love the services, and have been able to setup Mail, Webmail, Web and several others.
We setup a domain name: zehnder.ca
We decided that since we have only 1 server with many services, that we would just keep all the naming simple:
    ONE Hostname: zehnder.ca for everything
So the Server is setup as hostname: zehnder.ca
Mail is setup to serve: zehnder.ca
We are able to send email out, but we cannot receive mail in. If a user emails us, they get a 553 Error:
    Technical details of permanent failure:
Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 553 553 Relaying disallowed (state 14).
So I've been reading online about MX records and whatnot. We setup the MX record to still point to zehnder.ca eventhough we read it wasn't important since we use the same hostname as the domain name.
I dont see why this doesn't just work. We have the ports all open for SMTP, POP, IMAP, HTTP, HTTPS, Secure-SMTP etc and still we cannot get it to work.
Anyone have any ideas on the 553 error? Why can't we get this to work?
    Thanks for any help,
    Philippe and Patrick

Always a good source to check your server configuration is mxtoolbox.com
Your server is flat-out rejecting any SMTP connections. Based on what I've found, this is probably tied to your DNS settings.
I'm going to make the assumption that you have about Zero-Experience being a SysAdmin..
First, I would get in communication with Shaw and make sure they have a PTR record in their DNS to map your IP address to the server name. Most cable companies require that you have a PTR record with them for your static IP for the services to work. Your MX record is set to server.zehnder.com and the PTR record with Shaw should match that.
Your current DNS resolves like this:
    zehnder.ca.                    86400          IN          SOA          ns41.1and1.com. hostmaster.1and1.com. 2011102213 28800 7200 604800 86400
    zehnder.ca.                    86400          IN          NS          ns41.1and1.com.
    zehnder.ca.                    86400          IN          NS          ns42.1and1.com.
    zehnder.ca.                    86400          IN          MX          10 server.zehnder.ca.
There are several problem here, namely that your server is not the SOA (Start Of Authority) for your domain. You are also using 1and1.com as your nameservers; your domain registration should point to your server as being the nameserver, which you can change with your domain registrar. And without having the proper SOA resolving (and hence a reverse lookup), most of your services - including email - are going to have issues that require resolving your domain to your server.
Your reverse lookup should map your IP address to your domain name, like:
    4.73.57.in-addr.arpa.
(Yes, that is correct - entries in DNS resolve right-to-left, and the last block of the address is not needed.)
Once you have DNS sorted out and resolving properly, incoming mail should start working. If it doesn't, check the mail configuration so that your hostname matches your MX entry and that you are not using any hostaliases other than localhost.
Hope that gives you a good starting point.

  • TS3276 Problems receiving mail

    hi.
Since 12th of June I cannot receive mail, but I can send mail. I'm using mail on OS X 10.6.8 on a Mac Pro 8 core with 20 GB RAM. I have changed nothing, and my mailprovider tells me, that they have changed nothing, and I have to contact Apple. I'm getting no messages about faults.
My settings are unchanged, and I have controlled everything. Has apple changed something since 12th of june?
    Best regards
    Klaus Poulsen

The short story: If you have no email issues on other linked devices, the trouble lies singularly with your Mac. Check your mail folders. Do you see a "Recovered Messages" folder? Click on folder, and see if it has the same email(s) looped over and over again. If so, this email may have jammed your mail system up. Try this: <http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57488837-263/fix-os-x-mail-creating-multipl e-recovered-messages/>
    The long story:
I too have OS X 10.6.8, core i7. Initially I stopped receiving mail, but was able to send. Please note that this was only an issue on my MacBook. All other linked devices had no issue connecting/receiving emails from the same account. This is how I knew that the problem was with my MAC, and NOT my Gmail. After perusing trouble-shooting forums, and doing all the obvious (ie. Taking all accounts offline, and signing back on, going down the checklist of the obvious- blah blah), I gave up on the mail account even though I could see the obvious signs my mail folder was in distress (looping of same message in recovered folder). But wait- the troubles didn't end there! Then my mac begin to slow down, I was unable to save or download anything, and I kept getting the pop up message that my start-up disk was full and that I needed to creat new space! I knew the problems were related but didn't know where they connected. I kept removing files from my Mac to create space- a few gigs there, a gig here. And within hours- the freed up space would be used up. So I searched forums for "Startup disk full" and did everything the forums suggested including entering command in the terminal- all to no avail. I began to think against all odds, my Mac had a virus. And then today, after a month of fustration and finding that my Netflix Silverlight software needed to be updated, but my Mac refused to update it due to lack of "Disk space", I opened up Mac Mail again, and decided to delete all the mail folders saved on the computer- just for the heck. One in particular- "Recovered Messages" had the same email over and over. I had noticed this before, thought it was strange and had tried to delete the folder, but when it didn't delete, I didn't think anything of it. Nor did I catch the fact that the folder continuously recovered an email that happened to have a 67mb attachment. On a whim, I check the Mac HD info after I cleared all messages in that folder, and saw that the Mac HD available space went from 40mb to 300+gb. The problem was the "Recovered Messages" folder would not delete, and continued to add the same email over and over, and the email message was eating up all the space on my disk. So having pinpointed the issue- I was able to find this article: <http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57488837-263/fix-os-x-mail-creating-multipl e-recovered-messages/>  This worked for me after everything else failed. I did not have a V2 subdirectory, so I went straight for the folder starting with IMAP. The "Recovered Messages" folder disappeared immediately.  I can't believe that I overlooked what I knew was unusual behavior in my mail folder!  My Mac is back to normal: receiving new emails and disk space is recovered.

  • Microsoft Office Preview Problem (QuickLook)

So I had the unfortunate idea to install Microsoft Office 2011 on my macbook, this however rendered Lion's new .DOC preview functuinality null as it now only displays the preview as the document icon, as well as the thumbnail. It disabled the normal preview of all Office files, and defaulted the QuickLook generator to some kind of 'Office Import' generator. I ran the following to reload the QuickLook cache:
    qlmanage -r
    Which returned:
    qlmanage: resetting quicklookd
Then, retrying to generate the preview image...
    qlmanage -p SecondDraft_Jul28.doc
    It returned:
Testing Quick Look preview with files:
              wyatt_AGU_LM_SecondDraft_Jul28.doc
[WARNING] Office import returned an error generating preview for SecondDraft_Jul28.doc: -1
I then uninstalled Office via http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2398768 and then restarted my computer, re-tried the above commands, same response. I also even attempted to remove the QuickLook pref file:
    com.apple.QuickLookDaemon.plist
Any help to get the Lion preview/quicklook restored would be awesome!

  • Adobe reader/Microsoft Office 2003 problem

When downloading pdf file which opened to Microsoft Office I was presented with a File conversion window which invited me to " Select the encoding that makes your document readable"
I have not come across this before and have previously successfully downloaded files from the same source.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks.
    Alistair.

Usually you can just right-click on a pdf and choose Open With and instead of choosing something from the list instead select Choose Program at the bottom of the flyout. Then choose Reader and then check Always use the selected program...you should now be able to click on a pdf and have it open in Reader instead of Word.
    Good Luck!

  • HELP! serious problem receiving mail in iMac account

Here's is what seems to be happening:
I received my mail and the progress window showed it flowing in. I can spot the important items before they appear in the inbox by the title. Today there was a very important email from my daughter and it seemed to be downloading just fine.
However, when I went to look for it, it was nowhere to be found! I searched everywhere. I searched in the search field by using words that I remembered in the Subject line. I search by using the "From" typing my daughter's name. Nothing! It had completely evaporated.
I tried to download it again in my imac account and there was no mail to be downloaded.
What do I do to retrieve an important email that the Mail.app seems to have trashed without my permission?
The scary thing is that Mail may have been doing this on a regular basis while my attention diverted to something else.
BTW, I did rebuild my inbox, but the wanted mail would not appear.
    Griff

Yes, I mean Activity viewer, my bad!
And my account is a POP account.
And yes I have searched all available mailboxes and in my search have included "All Mailboxes." I also did Google Desktop and Spotlight searches just in case it might reside in a folder deep in the Library file system. It just doesn't exist!
I could see this email being downloaded and waited for it to appear in the inbox but when Mail.app had finished it didn't appear.
To update, this a.m. I thought I would give Entourage a try and it found the missing message in my .mac account, downloaded it and I was able to get it successfully.
I for one am giving up on Mail.app since I can't afford to have this happen again. I will go back to Entourage until Apple fixes the problem. If you search through the Apple Discussions in Mail & Address Book you will find a surprising number of people reporting their Mail mysteriously disappearing from their inboxes - especially lately. I for one am going to abandon Mail.app and go back to Entourage which seems much more reliable; slow, ponderous, bloated, but reliable.

  • Problems receiving mail from exchange after upgrading to Mavericks

After upgrading to Mavericks I am having issues receiving e-mail. Activity doctor says I am connected to Exchange server but Mail.app won't donwload e-mail. I have heard this is an issue on OS X Mavericks. Any idea on how to solve this?

I solved the problem by disabling all Internet Accounts in the System Preference and re-enabling them one by one.  I found that a few settings crashed the Mail app., mainly for those Microsoft Exchange accounts.  I deleted them and set them up again then it works fine now.  No more crash when I open the Mail app.  Hope this procedure helps those with similar problems, too.

  • HT2500 Problems receiving mail in one particular wifi zone. Help please!

Hi, I can receive e-mails in Mail (on macbook, iphone and ipad) everywhere except for when I'm connected to my home wifi. How can I solve this problem? The modem model number is PRG AV 4202N VDSL. Once a day the e-mails all come in, if I'm lucky.

Hi randers4, thankyou for your reply but thing is she does have it on because she iMessages a friend daily and it works for them and same with me just not each other. When I have it on also it will say its delivered but she will not receive anything but her SMS still come through. If i didnt have wifi on it would fall back on SMS but seen as i do it says delivered yet she still doesnt receive it. And we have both updated to iOS 5.1. So we can't figure out who the one with the problem is. She says it is mine however I have a feeling it is hers but I don't know hence why I came here. Thanks Kind Regards.

  • Problems receiving mail using Kerberos v5 GSSAPI Authentication

    Hi
We have a problem with our POP mail authentication. It works fine when the Apple Mail client is set to use authentication password but if we set it to use Kerberos v5 GSSAPI the mail client will check mail and after a long period, the spinning wheel stops indicating that there is no mail without any failure message, however there is mail to be received. I believe Kerberos is all correctly set up as we can authenicate to our AFP shares and VPN and can also send mail when using SMTP authentication and it is set to use Kerberos. It is just the POP receiving that is causing us a problem.
I have also checked to make sure that there are 3 principals for each service and these exist.
Anybody have any ideas as to what might be causing the problem? Incidentally, our CRAM MD5 also works for SMTP sending and works fine for sending and receiving for an IMAP account but will not work with a POP account. Don't know if this has any bearing on the matter.

    PowerBook G4 17"   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Which email client are you using on your Mac?
If the Mail application, go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Account Information tab for the account preferences, what is the account type shown?
If POP, what is your setting for removing messages from the server when downloaded which is under the Advanced tab for the account preferences?
If you manually created your Gmail account on the iPhone and you chose the Gmail preset, it was created as a POP account. To create the account as an IMAP account on the iPhone you must choose Other and then IMAP when creating the account.

  • Mavericks and Microsoft Office 2011 (Problem even after Complete format of MBPRO)

After Mavericks Install on my MBPRO I ran into problems with Word 2011.
I completely updated it and Mavericks.
What happens is that when I open some Word files, Word crashes without a say, but I can open them as Guest.
I thought I would fix the problem by formatting my computer and reinstall everything on it, but I get the same problem!
I did not use time machine nor migration assistant or any such way to restore my computer, so there is no way that old user files could be causing this!
What on earth can I do!
BTW I have Microsoft Word: 14.3.8
    MAC OS X
    Software  OS X 10.9 (13A603)

I saw some other threads that indicated certain fonts were causing the issue.  I believe they had to remove Office and then reinstall which would only have the package fonts. Do a search and see if you can find those comments.
