My new job requires me to be very familuar with Microsoft Office 2003 for Windows, however currently I use Mac os X. Can I learn office on the mac? How different is Microsoft Office Version X (the one I have now) versus Microsoft Office 2003 for windows. Thanks!!

I managed to find this reference specifically for restoring on Snow Leopard:
If you are using Mac OS X Snow Leopard, start your computer from the installation disc. Then use the "Restore From Time Machine Backup" utility.

Finally, I cannot see why Time Machine would leave out your playlists and ratings? Think about it. Why would Time Machine specifically copy everything BUT your playlists and ratings? Ryan, what are your options? I would have to ask you this: Are you certain that you properly did the sync? That is another/different forum altogether: Using iPhone /see subsection on Syncing.

Outlook is an email client and that does not indicate if your email is POP or IMAP. If you have an IMAP email account, all of your emails actions will automatically sync across your devices. If you have POP, it does not work that way.
If you are asking if you can transfer the current emails on the Mac onto the iPad, no you cannot, unless the email is an IMAP account and they can download onto the iPad again from the server.

Yes, that's exactly what happened. If you buy another drive, you could copy from your existing drive to the new and your files will be read/write. The new drive will have to be formatted as an HFS drive (that's the Mac's format). If you need to format it, you use Disk Utility which is in the Utilities folder on your Mac. Be careful with that -- it wipes out whatever is currently on the drive. Make sure you format the right drive.
I keep all my images on an external drive, too. In fact, I have two matching drives and sync them so I always have a backup.

The censorship in regards to certain apps not being available in your country is by your country, not by Apple.
Due to various laws and licensing in each country, in order to have an iTunes store account in a particular country you must have a credit card with a billing address in that country. If this were up to Apple, there would be no such requirement and there would be only one iTunes store for the entire world, but various laws, regulations, and licensing issues in each country, this is required by Apple.

Mozilla, like many other software companies, thoroughly test their software before releasing it to the public and I'm sure that no problem you are having is intentional.
I do not work for Mozilla but I do have experience of releasing software for public usage.
Firefox has no way of knowing what other software is already on your computer and with millions of combinations it isn't always possible to test for every scenario.
You can go back to the old version of Firefox but that won't always solve your problem.

Is there any way to sync Outlook for Mac with iPhone? I have tried everything but not successful. Apple says it is not possible to sync contacts from Outlook for Mac to iPhone 5. Any help will be much appreciated.

Is there any way to Sync contacts from Outlook for Mac to iPhone 5? Apple support says that only iTune can only sync contacts from "Contact" which is the default contact of Mac. If one is running Outllok on a Mac machine then it is not possible to sync the contacts with iPhone. It is strange that Apple distributors are promoting and offering machines with promise that Windows users can now run MS Office on Mac machines without any problem. While this is true, it is so strange that one cannot sync the contacts from MacBook Pro to iPhone5. MS Word for Macs 2011 in Mavericks - can you help with text formatting?

When I try to copy and paste text in MS Word for Macs 2011 (14.3.9) the text doesn't retain its formatting. I'm running a year old 27" iMac with OS 10.9.1 Mavericks. My other Mac is still running OS 10.8.5 and the same verision of Word works fine.
Any ideas?

I've found it difficult to actually nail down what causes the odd behaviors in Office. I think it is due to the config files scattered all over, never knowing which one to delete.
However, you may be able to isolate the problem to your own account, or to the system by trying two things:
1) Log into another user account (a new one would be good, or Guest) and try there.
2) Boot into Safe Mode and try there: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564
If it works in 1, then there is something in your account causing the issues.
If it works in 2, then the something is third-party software.

Want to use Mac's for public access in public library -- NEED HELP please.

We have a grant to replace all of the computers in our small town public library. I would like to be able to consider Macintosh computers (would Love to, actually) but have not been able to find any information about how to do that.
Biggest issue is "access management". We have a system for PCs that logs on a patron by using their library card number and a PIN. That system then allots them an hour or two to use the computer, times them, warns them when time is running out and so on, and it also manages printer access and charges a few cents per page to print.
We need that for Macs. The software maker gets all attitude about "we have 2000 libraries with PC's and Zero with Macs." ARGH!
Help help help.
Also... please point me to anyone at Apple that knows what a public library is and would like to help us overcome this attitude problem.
We have a grant and can buy the computers. We just need some help to get it done.

I've never setup such a system, but given that other features I've been able to ask about and get specialists to help me, suggest that's probably the most logical course to go.

Restore from passport for mac didn't transfer my apps, help!!!

My 2011 macbook pro kept overheating and shutting off so I brought it to the Genius Bar at my local Apple store. They said it was not a hardware issue it was a software issue, so they wiped everything clean and instructed me to restore everything when I got home from my Passport for Mac. I did that and my data is there but not many of my Apps. I followed the instructions that they guy gave me but I can't seem to figure this out. Shouldn't the Passport have saved my apps as well??

Without seeing the restore instructions you were given, I can only guess.
If the Genius thought your problem was a software issue, he/she might not have wanted you to do a 100% restoration from Time Machine, as that could have also restored the problem. Did they install a fresh version of OS X, or did they give you instructions for doing so? Did they not include instructions to reinstall your applications?

Yes, they should be able to verify that WiFi is working properly. If I just got a new phone & it didn't work perfectly, right out of the box, before I started restoring or whatever, I'd be right back where I got the phone.

Former pc user converted to mac..ipod not recognised? help please

I have just changed my operating system from windows to mac osx. I plugged in my ipod and it only recharges,it doesn't recognise ipod. I assume this is becauseI need to reformat the ipod.Can anyone inform the the process involved,I have looked through endless pages of mac support and can not find a definitive answer. I have downloaded the latest ipod updater and still nothing. Help please.

Here's a few suggestions to try.
1. Restart your Mac then plug in the iPod. Open "Disk utility" and see if your iPod shows up. Sometimes the "spinning beachball" icon may show up, give at least 15 mins before you conclude that the Mac is locked up. You can also try hitting the Mount button. This may cause the iPod to show up.
2. If that does not work, go to the Apple menu and select "About this Mac", click "more info" and go to FireWire. See if the iPod shows up there.
3. If #1 and # 2 does not work then download the latest PC version of the iPod updater. Instal on your PC, restore using this which would wipe the iPod. When this is done, connect to your Mac. If it shows up in Disk Utility then your can Erase and format "Mac OS extended". If this step is not successful, hit the "security options" button and select "zero all data" and try again. You may then need the Mac version of the latest iPod updater to update firmware.

Open Office-Installation Help please!

Ok. I've had my Mac for 6 months. It recently crashed and I had to get the HD replaced causing all of my stuff to be deleted.
I am trying to restore all of my extra applications..etc. and I am trying to find a freeware WORD program or re-install Open Office (which worked great).
I am trying to re-install open office, but it says I need X11 installed..when I try to DL X11 it says "it can't be saved to the HD because new software is already installed"...How do I activate the new software and get this to work?
I really need to have some kind of Office program for my computer..since I go back to school on Tuesday.

X11 is on your Leopard Install DVD, insert that and open the Optional Install folder
Run the Optional Installs package, select the drive and Agree to the Terms
Click the arrow next to Applications to show the individual items
Select X11 and click Continue
It will install a new version or update anything you have already.
Once done reboot and try the Open Office Installer again
