Microsoft Office:Mac 2004

I just bought my mom a new iMac w/Leopard and was setting it up for her. I had an extra install for Microsoft Office:Mac left and wanted to install it on her computer for her. I seemed to have some trouble and had to make a few attempts to successfully install it but it finally did. Now when I go to open Word, Powerpoint or Excel a message pops up that says "An unexpected error occurred while trying to load the Microsoft Framework Library". What does this mean? What do I do to correct it? I already tried to uninstall and reinstall it a couple times and it still occurs. The programs open and seem to work so far but don't know when a problem will occur. Any suggestions? My mom is used to this program and not interested right now in changing?

If you are going to follow the Microsoft EULA, I believe you are only allowed two active installs, and I know you agree that they will not be used at the same time.
I'll be honest, I think you would be better served buying mom a copy of the home/education Microsoft 2008 and installing that on her computer. If she is going to write to others with older versions of Word show her how to save in an older format.
If you are going to try to install the 2004, remove your first install using the 2004 install disk, reinstall, and immediately update the software. Just be sure you and mom don't set Autoupdate to run at the same time or you will be hearing from MS.

  • Installing Microsoft Office:mac 2004 Student and Teacher Edition

I am trying to install Microsoft Office:mac 2004 student and teacher edition.
I don't know how to achieve this.
I have tried the Office Setup Assistant but it says "You can't open the application "Office Setup Assistant" because PowerPC applications are no longer supported.
So, I assume I have to do the "Drag the Microsoft Office 2004 folder to your hard disk to install all Office components" option.
Being very new to iMac, my question is, "Where exactly do I drag it to?  Which icon along the bottom or should it go somewhere else?
    Any help would be great
    Thanks

It will not work with Mountain Lion. You need Office 2011 for OS X.
Office 2004 and Other Applications Don't Work in Lion/Mountain Lion
If you have Office 2004 which is a PPC-only suite, it will not work in Lion/Mountain Lion. You need to upgrade to Office 2011 - Mactopia - or you can try the freeware suite, Libre Office, that is functionally similar to Office 2007 for Windows except it works on Lion/Mountain Lion.
You may want to consider as well:
These two suites are similar to Libre Office but not as current or as well-supported:
    NeoOffice
    Open Office
And, then there is Apple's iWork suite:
Pages - word processing and layout
    Keynote - presentation
    Numbers - spreadsheet
Each can open and save Office compatible files. They may be purchased separately via the Mac App Store for $19.99 each.
As for other software, any PPC-based software will not run in Lion or Mountain Lion because Rosetta is no longer part of OS X. You will need to upgrade to Intel versions of the software.
(Access to the Mac App Store requires Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or higher and an Apple ID.)

  • Issues between Microsoft Office:mac 2004 (Student) and Korean Language

I use Microsoft Office:mac 2004 student edition on my iMac. For a Korean class I'm taking I type in Korean on Microsoft Word for Mac 2004 (student edition) and as to be expected Word indecates the spelling is wrong. I have tried to change the proofing setting so Word will Proof in Korean but I have been unsucessful. What can I do (or get or download) to get Word for Mac to proof Korean? If you think you may be able to help me but you find his message to be somewhat hard to understand please email me at [email protected] and I will to explain my issue more clearly.

Best ask in the newsgroups which MS runs for its products:
    http://www.microsoft.com/mac/community/community.aspx?pid=newsgroups
Are you sure the stuff you want exists? My info is that Office 2004 comes with proofing tools for English, French, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Norwegian, German, Danish, Swedish, Portuguese, Finnish, and Dutch. No Korean or Chinese.

  • Microsoft Office:Mac 2004 under Yosemite

I know it's very (very) old, but I've been happily running Microsoft Office:Mac 2004 under Snow Leopard and am finally in a position to upgrade to Yosemite. I've found workarounds for all my other important legacy software but was wondering if it's even remotely possible to run Word:Mac 2004 and Excel:Mac 2004 under the new OS?

Good news is that I can access all my documents. Bad news is I had to pay $150 for it.
I spent a lot of time trying to find a solution before buying.  I did not try the launch terminal solution....
I will check back so I can find out what to do should this happen again.
More possible bad news.  If you had followed what fane_j had asked you to do you might have found out it wasn't microsoft's fault for your problem and wouldn't have had to spend $150.  Because while you may have an Office that works, fane_j was not suggesting a solution but probing for a trojan (google "flashback trojan") that has been crashing powerpc code which is what Office 2004 is.
So if you do have the trojan, while you can run a version of Office, the trojan may still be in your system since installing a version of Office isn't going to remove it.  So I'll make another request.  Launch Terminal (in your Utilities folder) and copy/paste the following line into the terminal window and hit return:
    defaults read ~/.MacOSX/environment
If you see anything other than a "does not exist" error message you almost certainly do have the trojan and post the results in this thread.
The choice is yours.  You can ignore this and take the risk.  Or do what has been requested.

  • Question on Office Mac 2004 - Is this the right forum?

If there's another forum for Office Mac 2004 I was not able to find it.
I'm having trouble with Entourage rules. I imported all my mail from Apple Mail into Entourage with no problems. I created folders for the accounts just like I had in Apple Mail. I made rules to move the mail to each accounts folder. The problem is I want to run the rules now but I don't see anywhere that it says "run rules" or something like that to run them. Is there a way to run rules on existing mail in the inbox?
    Thanks.

No. These are Apple forums, not Microsoft.

  • HT1338 Microsoft Office Mac taken off my computer because no longer support by Apple?

My software for Office mac 2004 is no longer on my latop as it is no longer supported? I dont understand, Now I do not have any software?

Let me see if I can make a few educated guesses and save you some time:
You had Office 2004 running on your MacBook but recently upgraded to Lion (or Mountain Lion).  When you attempt to run any component of Office 2004, you get a Dialog Box that PowerPC applications are no longer supported.
Your best and easiest solution (although maybe not the cheapest) is to upgrade to Office 2011 and everything should work fine again!
    Two factual corrections:
    1. Apple extensively publicized the fact that Lion would no longer include Rosetta.  The problem is that the everyday normal PowerPC app Mac user had no idea what Rosetta was, that they were using it nor what its absence in Lion would mean for their everyday life!
    2.  Apple's license to use the underlying technology of Rosetta expired with the release of Lion (and now Mt. Lion).  The third party company that licensed this technology to Apple back in 2005/2006, was acquired by IBM, who still champions the PowerPC platform.
It is doubtful that IBM would have re-licensed this technology to Apple at any reasonable price...  Apple's "feelings" had nothing to do with it.

Just a quick question. How many CDs do come in:
    - Virtual PC for Mac version 7 with Windows XP Pro
    and
    - Office mac 2004?
    Thanks for your help.

Here is some info from the contents of my VPC boxes.
VPC 7  with Windows XP Home ed. has 3 CDs - Installation 1, Installation 2, and Additional Windows System Files.   Requires MacOS X 10.2.8+, 700Mhz G3, G4, or G5 processor, 512 RAM.
VPC 6  with Windows XP Home ed. has 2 CDs - Installation, and Extra System Files. Requires Mac OS 9.2.2 or Mac OS X 10.2.1+, 500Mhz G3 or G4 processor, 320 RAM.
I do not have Office Mac 2004 so can't help you there.

  • Can I use Office:Mac 2004 with my new MacBook Pro

I just got a brand new MacBook Pro, and I'm trying to install my office:mac 2004 edition, but it seems to not be working. Do I have to repurchace office:mac or can I just upgrade.

The 2004 version of Office will not work on Mac OS X Lion (10.7) or Mountain Lion (10.8) because it uses Power PC code. Power PC support was dropped in Lion and later. Version 2008 or 2011 should work fine.

  • Why can't I open a PDF in Word?  I have Microsoft Office:Mac 2011

Why can't I open a PDF document in Word.  I have Microsoft Office:Mac 2011 installed because I have to email PDF and word documents to my clients.  Please help.
I currently have been viewing them in Preview.  Is that the only way?

Word is a text processor, not a PDF viewer. You can embed a PDF document in a Word document, but that's pretty much it. Besides Preview there are numerous third-party applications that can also view PDFs such as Adobe Reader.

where can I download a digital Microsoft Office Mac 2011 for macbook air. I have a key product at hand.

While they certainly don't make it clear, if you actually select the link on CNET, it's only an update file (Office2011-1434UpdateEN.dmg) which is listed on Microsoft's site:
    http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads?pid=Mactopia_Office2011&fid=ECF3967A-2593 -4E94-8670-CE555E20047F
They used to allow for a trial download, but I haven't been able to track that down in a while.  If the original poster has their key, it can be downloaded directly from Microsoft here:

  • I deleted my microsoft office:mac 2011 word from my toolbar. I have Mac OS X version 10.6.8.  I tried to reinstall but it won't work. I get an error message each time. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I deleted my microsoft office:mac 2011 word from my toolbar. I have Mac OS X version 10.6.8.  I tried to reinstall but it won't work. This has never happened before.  I get an error message each time. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I don't have time machine.

By Toolbar, do you mean the Dock?  The Translucent bar normally at the bottom of the screen, but sometimes at the right or left side?
If that's what you mean, the Dock is merely a shortcut to what is already inside the Applications folder's Microsoft Office 2011 folder.  If you have Word inside your Microsoft Office 2011 folder, you can drag it back to the Dock.
If you deleted the Microsoft Office folder, or it is empty, you'll have to reinstall it.
If you don't have your registration code, you'll have to call Microsoft for a new one.

  • Help: My dock froze while installing Microsoft office: Mac

I was installing Microsoft Office 2008: Mac when the downloader got stuck at a certain point and the estimated time until finish is only increasing and the download bar is not moving. I tried to open up Firefox while this was happening and this resulted in me Force Quitting firefox and left me with a "Frozen Dock"
How should I handle this situation and should i cancel the download for office because their website says that i am entitled to a new product key since the download did not work.
Note: the microsoft office: mac that i am installing is from a disk, not the internet.

    Theisen,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Your post is a little confusing, first you say you were installing MS Office via a downloader and then later you say you are installing it from a Disc. If you installing it via the install disc the you are doing just that, installing not downloading.
Also when doing an installation it's generally not a good idea to be working in other applications as it seems you were by trying to use Firefox.
My recommendation would be to restart your computer and ONLY run the MS Office installation per the instructions MS provides. Do not have any other applications running. If it still fails then contact MS, you should be able to find the number in the documentation you received with the product. After you have installed it then run updates for it to ensure you are on the most up-to-date version which is currently 12.2.4.
    Regards,
    Roger

  • Microsoft Office:Mac for iPad2

I recently installed Microsoft Office:Mac on my iMac. It came with license to install to up to 3 computers. I want to download it to my iPad 2 so that I can use Excel, Word & PowerPoint on it. Is that possible? Does anyone know how to do this? Thank you.

Short answer. You can't. Different operating systems. The OS X version of Office will simply not run on an iOS device and there is no iOS version of  Office. There are rumors Microsofty is working on it but no cigar yet.
